Been a fair while since I last graced this site with my presence but I’ll be damned if the gen 8 reveal trailer didn’t get me into the mood for a little pokemon roleplaying. So I’ve come up with a fairly simple concept to mess around with. The Virdime survival games! Hosted by the world renown Virdime inc, a company that rivals the likes of Devon and Silph co when it comes to technological advances in the world of Pokemon. The core concept of the game is similar to that of a battle royale (I know, I know, another one right?) in which trainers are invited from all around the globe to go head to head until only one is left standing. Each trainer is allowed to bring a single pokemon into the games with them and will be given a special “smart tag”, an electronic arm band that displays the wearer’s current points. Every trainer will start the games worth 1 point but for every opponent they knock out of the games they will take their points, adding to the total on their smart tag. So if you defeat somebody who is worth 3 points and you already have 1 you’ll now be worth 4 points. These points can be spent at certain beacons scattered around Westcott Island (My bad, forgot to mention the name of the island before this point) and in return you can obtain things such as food, pokemon items, camping supplies (Which come in handy considering the games are often a multi-day affair), etc. These items can also be found scattered around the island, but are purposefully scarce to incentivise battles. A trainer is defeated as soon as their pokemon is unable to battle or their smart tag is taken from them. Violence against other trainers is frowned upon by Virdime and should be kept to a minimum.
Right now I’ll take a moment to describe the playing field as it were. Westcott Island has been heavily terraformed by Virdime, turning it into a dynamic and varied battlefield for our contestants. It’s primarily split into 4 separate environments, a snow covered section to the north that consists of thick pine forests and open tundra, a dense tropical jungle to the east, a scorching desert riddled with canyons to the south and finally an abandoned mock city to the west. All of these microclimates are littered with mock structures ranging from small homes to larger constructs such as a fake power plant in the desert zone. At the centre of the island is an intimidating mountain, the fondly nicknamed Mt Choco, so named due to the peculiar chocolate colouring of its rock. The upper reached of the mountain are caped in snow. The microclimates of Westcott Island are maintained by four huge weather manipulation towers, which are sometimes used to spice up the games, causing wild natural forces to mess with players. A completely artificial river circles Mt Choco and flows through every single microclimate, never running off into the sea. A tram service is accessible before the games have begun and is used to distribute trainers around the island after they arrive at the docks.
Now, why would a trainer even want to participate in these games? Well every year Virdime offers a grand prize for the lucky soul who takes home the gold. Normally a hefty cash prize and some of Virdime’s top of the line tech. Last year’s winner went home with a prototype V-dex, a specialized pokedex that has been kept tightly under wraps by the company for some time now. The other incentive is of course the prestige of winning such an event. The whole thing is televised and it can be a great chance for trainers to show their skills off to the world.
I think I’ve pretty much covered everything here? If you have any questions fire away, I’ll be more than happy to address them. Anyway I’m not looking for a massive roleplaying group here so please don’t take it personally if you are turned down a place should there be a fair few people interested. On a side note I would prefer mature role-players in an effort to maintain quality. An equal split of male and female characters would also be great but not necessary.
Rules:
1. All Oc’s must be 16+ as that is the age restriction on entering the games.
2. In terms of Pokemon you use I don’t have too much to say except I’m gonna ban the use of megas, if your oc has a mega Pokemon that’s fine as long as they don’t mega evolve it during the games.
3. Posts have to be at least a paragraph in an effort to uphold quality.
4. It should be obvious but follow all the normal charms rules as well!
Alright I think all that’s left is the character bios. I’ll post mine as an example.
Name: Fletcher Lloyd
Gender:
Age: 19
Height: 5ft 10
Physical appearance: Fletcher constantly manages to exude the aura of somebody who just can’t quite be bothered today. His gold flecked brown eyes are ringed with dark circles at all times, a clear give away that he doesn’t get as much sleep as he should. His hair while actually brown might as well be black unless in harsh light and is kept shaven short on the sides but longer on top, the latter being roughly brushed to the left. His nose is pretty unremarkable, slightly smaller than average perhaps but not noticeably so. Now at the age where shaving is something he has to worry about Fletcher makes a half-hearted effort and as such usually has short stubble darkening his face. His frame is quite lithe, the result of spending most of his childhood outside climbing trees in his local forest. For the same reason his arms, hands and legs bare various small scars.
General attire: Fletcher doesn’t really belive in dressing up for any occasion so its t-shirts, hoodies and jeans whenever applicable. He also has a few caps that he’s been known to pair up with his standard outfits. The most notable of these caps has a stylized Tyrantrum footprint on it. His hoodies are generally dark shades of grey, blue or green. The only “luxury” item that he wears is a pair of black nylon Doc Martin boots which were gifted to him by his father. He also owns a practical metal Casio watch.
Personality:
As his appearance suggests Fletcher is always rather tired, slightly more irritable than most and would rather be sleeping than whatever it is he is currently caught up in. Looking beyond this though you’ll find a good natured individual with a strong sense of right and wrong and a passion for sarcasm and wit. He is actually sharper than you might assume as well but has a terrible tendency to forget important details. The young man has a soft spot for misfits and outcasts, and forms strong bonds with his pokemon even if he does try to avoid being crushed by physical affection from Titus.
History overview:
· Born in Mossdeep city, Hoenn. His father runs his own blacksmiths and his mother studies botany.
· Obtained first Pokemon aged 6, a Torchic that was being given away for free by a professional Pokemon breeder due to the fact it was born with a malformed wing. With his parents’ permission he took the little fire type home and named it Tobias.
· After a rocky start the young Torchic began to overcome its disability and proved to be quite the little bundle of energy.
· At the age of 9 Fletcher and his father built a prototype prosthetic for Tobias using leather and bits of metal laying around his father’s workshop.
· Now that Tobias was a force to be reckoned with in his own right Fletcher began to explore a little further from home. Eventually he ran into some trouble, a large group of Nincada who had burrowed beneath the ground formed a living landmine. Upon walking over their territory the bug type swarm attacked the rookie trainer, forcing him to battle the entire group. It would have been unlikely they’d have won were it not for the fact that Tobias evolved during the fight. Fletcher decided to catch one of the Nincada before leaving, naming it Biscuit after he discovered it had a penchant for the snack.
· Had dreams of traveling the region before taking on the pokemon league but had to stop after obtaining his 7th gym badge to return and help his parents who were struggling financially.
· Became an apprentice at Devon corp specialising in “Asset control”. This job allowed Fletcher to visit a few other regions on business trips whilst still helping his parents financially.
· A trip to Kalos saw him and his mentor reobtaining a valuable set of fossils from a group of thieves who had tried to steal them from the cargo train they were being transported on. As a gift from his superiors Fletcher was given one of the fossils to raise once it had been resurrected, Titus the Tyrantrum, provided that he sent regular updates on its wellbeing and progress.
· No longer going out of his way to get gym badges Fletcher instead relishes in using his Pokemon whilst working, something that has allowed him to progress as a trainer anyway.
· On a trip to Unova Fletcher came across a Pawniard and for no other reason than he thought it was cute he captured it and added it to his team. After some deliberation it was his mother who finally named her Shikara.
· The very same trip to Unova saw Fletcher encounter a rouge team plasma member who had defected from their cause and taken a number of Pokemon with him in an effort to free them. The ex-Plasma grunt had also taken an egg from the organisation but didn’t deem himself fit to raise it. The egg was thrust upon Fletcher so fast that by the time he realised what had happened the grunt was long gone. Unable to just leave the egg behind he took it with him. It later hatched into a Solosis he named Ecto.
· After a request from his Mother Fletcher travelled to Alola to try and obtain several rare species of aquatic plant that would help her with her research back home. What she failed to mention was that one of the types of kelp she was after was in fact Dhelmise. Four days and two row boats later Fletcher managed to finally capture one and after his mother had studied it he decided to keep it after all the trouble it had been to capture in the first place. He named the tricky beast Capt.
· Sent to the Virdime survival games to represent Devon, upon completing the games his mentor would be due to retire and Fletcher could claim the title of a fully-fledged agent of Devon.
Pokemon: Tobias the Blaziken (Partner being used in games), Titus the Tyrantrum, Shikara the Bisharp, Capt the Dhelmise, Ecto the Reuniclus and Biscuit the Ninjask.
Other: Something to note about Tobias is that he possess a tailored prosthetic right hand as he was born without one. Its top of the line Devon tech and works so well you might not even notice it…well if it wasn’t clearly metal.
Okay so the fact that I’m tired and rushed my bio a bit, that is everything! I look forward to seeing what interesting characters you guys come up with.
