Yet another one of my 'What if Pokecharms was a Video Game' scenarios. Only this time, we're racing for trophies across multiversal race tracks, all the while causing chaos with strange items! After playing Sega All-stars Racing on my DS and hearing about something called a Post Race, it got me thinking; What is Pokecharms was like a Racing Game? But with classic contenders like Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing, what would set this game apart from the competition?
Racer Abilities
Each Racer possesses one ability during a race, and can temporarily change their ability only during a race by using Kirlia.
Rock-Head- The racer can ram another racer directly in front of him/her
Rough Skin- The racer can ram another racer from the sides
Levitate- The racer will not fall off courses with ledges
Swift Swim- The racer cannot sink in courses with water
Technician- The racer always receives three units of any power up they pick up
Overcoat- The racer is unaffected by the effects of weather
Sturdy- The racer resists damage from a trap/projectile once per lap
Speed Boost- The racer gets a Speed Boost at the start of each lap
Power-ups
Instead of items, certain Pokemon will act as power-ups in each course. They appear as large, floating Pokeballs on the field. You never know which Pokemon you will get once you obtain it. You can also hold up to six Pokemon at any time, and can no longer pick up new ones until you use the ones you already have. You also cannot select which Pokemon to use, but instead use them in the order that you picked them up.
Porygon2- Porygon2 uses Agility to temporarily boost the speed of the racer.
Ferroseed- Ferroseed is dropped on the ground and acts as an obstacle, causing vehicles that hit to careen out of control.
Diglett- Diglett uses Dig and creates a Pitfall Trap which temporarily stops anyone who falls into it.
Pikachu- Pikachu uses Thunderwave and paralyzes a nearby vehicle.
Raichu- Raichu uses Thunderwave and paralyzes several nearby vehicles.
Voltorb- Voltorb is thrown in front of the racer and uses Explosion on the nearest vehicle.
Electrode- Electrode is thrown in front of the racer and uses Explosion in an area.
Swellow- Swellow locks on to a target and uses Aerial Ace on it.
Xatu- Xatu uses Future Sight to strike down the vehicle currently in 1st place.
Clefairy- Clefairy uses its Magic Guard ability to protect the racer from traps/projectiles.
Abomasnow- Abomasnow uses its Snow Warning ability to summon a hailstorm in a small area. During a hailstorm, Ice obstacles may randomly fall on the field.
Hippowdon- Hippowdon uses its Sand Stream ability to summon a sandstorm in a small area. During a Sandstorm, the racer's vision is obscured and all passing vehicles move slower.
Politoed- Politoed uses its Drizzle ability to summon rain in a small area. Suring rain, the racer's vision is obscured and the road becomes slippery, making it more difficult to control the vehicle.
Ninetales- Ninetales uses its Drought ability to make the weather sunny. During sunny weather, the road becomes hotter, making it more difficult to drift around corners.
Magnemite- Magnezone uses its Magnet Pull ability to draw the racer towards the vehicles in front of him/her. The more vehicles there are in front, the faster the racer accelerates.
Ledyba- Ledyba uses Baton Pass and switches the racer's position with that of the nearest vehicle (regardless of whether the vehicle is behind or in front of the racer)
Ditto- Ditto uses Transform to turn into a decoy of the racer and draws one projectile towards it.
Sneasel- Sneasel uses Thief and steals a Power-up from the nearest vehicle.
Kirlia- Kirlia uses its Trace ability and copies the ability of a nearby vehicle.
Create-a-Racer
So if you were a playable character in this racing game, what would your racer be like?
Racer Name: Says it all.
Vehicle: What kind of vehicle would you drive? A realistic vehicle like a Harley, a Hummer or maybe an F-1 Racer? Or something more fantastic, like a small spaceship or even something alive like a dragon, or a Pokemon! There're only two rules though. 1.) It's gotta be something you can ride on. Having Superspeed or magical flying footwear is not allowed, even if you are practically faster than the thing you're riding (coughSoniccough) And 2.) It's got to be the right size (oh the OOC of these rules!) No sense in competing in a race when you're riding a Jumbo Jet that can squash everyone else flat.
Racer Ability: Says it all.
Stunt: A Stunt is a unique power-up exclusive only to you. However, you can only use a stunt after jumping a ramp and being airborne.
Racer Stats: Every Racer gets 15 total stat points, they must distribute those 15 total points to each of their four stats. The maximum points to one stat is five, while the minimum is 1. The four stats are:
Speed: Determines how fast your vehicle runs at max power.
Acceleration: Determines how quickly your vehicle can accelerate to max power.
Control: Determines how well your vehicle can steer and drift.
Weight: Determines how heavy your vehicle is, with 1 being very heavy and 5 being very lightweight. Heavy vehicles do not travel that far after jumping a ramp and are difficult to steer. Being so bulky, however, they quickly recover from attacks. Lightweight vehicles travel very far during a jump and are generally fast. However, they're very sensitive when ti comes to steering and being so lightweight, are easily blown off the course by attacks.
Special Stage: What would your special course be like? Is it based on your favourtie video game, maybe its taken from a fictional world of your own design. Maybe there are special traps and obstacles specific to this route?
Stage Theme: Tune up the radio and let us hear what your Driving Music sounds like!
Victory Quote: Got anything to say once you've won the Grand Prix or a Casual Race?
Racer Name: RX the Mijumaru
Vehicle: RX rides on Zilla; the giant Buizel has a saddle on his back
Racer Ability: Swift Swim
Stunt: Aqua Jet- Zilla surrounds himself in water and dashes forward; he may hit a target once he reaches the ground.
Racer Stats:
Speed: 3
Acceleration: 4
Control: 5
Weight: 3
Special Stage: Pokecharms Art Museum- a perilous, fast-paced tour of the museum full of dangerous corners. Vehicles with superb control would do well in such a course.
Stage Theme: Bullet Dance
Victory Quote: We did it! Wait 'till Z-IMDAS hears about this!
Racer Name: Rocket X
Vehicle: Orthrus; a black Can-Am Spyder with two wolf head decors at the front. The wolf heads seem to move occasionally.
Racer Ability: Technician
Stunt: Shadow Spike- While airborne, a dark, shadowy spike portrudes from beneath RX's vehicle and slashes vehicles under it as Orthrus is slowly lowered to the ground.
Racer Stats:
Speed: 3
Acceleration: 4
Control: 4
Weight: 4
Special Stage: Redsnaire Cliffside Manor- a Race Course that spirals around a cliffside and proceeds down a long, twisting highway. Mysterious black bikers pursue the racers and attempt to eliminate them using high-tech weapons.
Stage Theme: Fallen Colony
Victory Quote: Objective cleared. Now proceeding to the next coordinates.
