Basically no Xyz, Link, or pendulum monsters. Synchro are very taboo was well, but are sometimes used.
Also no monsters which were one of a kind in the show. Like the blue eyes cards, god cards, yubel, etc.

Believe it or not, it’s actually true. In duel academy, the colors don’t just show social status and rank, but an entirely different set of living conditions.
Obleisk Blues live In not one mansion, but TWO mansions, one for girls and one for boys. The eat entire banquets every night and live it up like they are royalty.
Da Yellows have a good selection too, having a buffet nearly every night with a humble but above average amount of food for every person. They live in a pretty sizable building, almost as big as the Obelisk Blues.
As for the Slifers....
They live in a glorified shack with food that is barley enough to pass as a meal every day, sometimes they even have less than that pending on the day.
This should definitely not be legal, that's borderline child abuse

Bear in mind this is the same school that had someone basically die in it and they covered it up. Duel academy ain’t exactly super high on the morals list, they are under Kaiba corp after all lol
Then again, this is based off of a cartoon legit mainly used to sell cards for a children’s card game
