(This is the character Victor, who goes by V)
V stepped off of the boat onto the docks of Canalave City. Wingulls were flying overhead picking at some leftovers that sailors were dumping off of the boat, a bird that reminded V of a Pidgeot could be seen fishing for some blue fish-like pokemon in the bay, and there were small furry pokemon with buck teeth off on the shore line. He had spent the last two weeks on a boat from the Johto region heading here, to Sinnoh. The food was mediocre, the sailors were always looking to pick fights with him, but in the end it wasn't so bad. His Magikarp had enjoyed being able to swim around off the side of the liner for hours at a time, and at nights his Umbreon could take in the clear, night, sky. His lavender hair waved in the winds as the salty wind made its way into his nose. He wasn't exactly fond of the smell, but he did love what it accompanied. It meant he was on the move.
His father had suggested that he come to a new region to make his mark on the pokemon league, but V had other motivations for coming to Sinnoh. He had already been to Kanto several times, and even made a couple trips to Hoenn. But this was a new region to him. New people, new adventure, and most of all new pokemon. V smiled at the thought of all the new pokemon that he would see here, and the possibility of adding a couple to his team even. He stepped off of the boat to make his way to Pokemon center when a sailor had begun to flag him down.
"Wait! Victor! You forgot something!", yelled a rather large sailor running down the side of the boat. He made his way down the catwalk until he finally made it to V holding his knees half-way bent over trying to catch his breath. "You......forgot......this." said Jerry holding out his hand. Gripped in his pudgy hands was what looked like a watch.
"Thanks, Jerry. My mother would be upset if I forgot the one thing they gave me before coming to this region." V said with a thankful tone. He grabbed the Poketch, and started to put it on his wrist. As he was fitting it on he said to Jerry, "Hey, Jerry."
"Yeah Victor?"
"That. Please, call me V. I know we've known each other since our days back in Goldenrod, but its V." V said smiling.
"Oh yeah, sorry about that." Jerry let out a grin that showed he was really a simple man, but still a good friend of V's. They had grown up in Goldenrod City together before his father's incident with Team Rocket. After V's family moved to the country just outside the city, V and Jerry didn't get to see each other too much, but they still made contact and were able to remain good friends. Jerry stared at V for a second before telling him, "V, you be careful out here. You've never been to Sinnoh, but it's not any safer than any of the other places you've been."
"I appreciate that Jerry. I'll be careful, trust me." V said with a wink. He turned and started to make his way off of the boat before he turned around and said, "Which way to the Pokemon Center?"
Jerry laughed and pointed to the other side of the harbor. "Go north from here and over the drawbridge. It should be a few blocks up on your left."
"Thanks again, pal." With that, V made his way up the side of the piers on his way to the pokemon center. As he walked, he was taking in all the sights. People hustling and bustling to pack up cargo freighters were making jokes as they loaded what looked to be a shippment of Pokeballs heading for Cianwood in the Johto region. Several machoke were lifting boxes as well with blank looks on their faces. V wasn't really fond of Pokemon labor, but it made the world go round. He was aware of that fact and tolerated it to an extent. As he walked by he heard the sailors hastling him about something he couldn't understand.
"Hey, kid!" Yelled a rather large man. This man had to be at least seven feet tall, and had a chest as big around as a barrel. "You look lost! You should have your mommy here to hold your hand so nothing happens to you!" The troupe around him started to chuckle at this comment. V made a concerted effort to ignore them as he walked by. "I'm talking to you kid!" yelled the man. V felt a tug on his shoulder as a man slightly larger than V spun him around. V reached for his belt as he turned facing the man. He was less than impressed with this man. He probally a foot taller than V, covered in body hair, and looked like he hadn't bathed in a year.
"You have a problem with these Machoke carryin' our loads for us?" The sailor belowed. He pulled his britches up and gave V an ill-favored look. He made a step towards V as well as the men nearest to him.
With that V pulled a pokeball off his belt and threw it out in front of him. "Magnemite! Use Flash!" The small, metal, ball-shaped pokemon with magnets on its sides flew out of its ball and set off a near blinding light. V made sure to cover his eyes, as he wasn't about to repeat the same mistake he had made twice before.
The sailors grabbed at their eyes and screamed. One fell to his knees, pulling his hands from his eyes as he tried to use his eyes which wouldn't answer his commands of simple sight.
"Come back, Magnemite!" V held out the ball and recalled Magnemite into it as he went running down the docks. He was running as fast as his legs would take him until he finally made it to the drawbridge. He looked around to make sure the men weren't chasing him as he ducked behind a crate.
"So you enjoying our city?" a rather gruff, yet kind sounding voice said behind V. V spun around as fast as he could to take a look at the man who had snuck up on him. The man wasn't that tall, barely a few inches taller than V, and had fuschia colored hair and beard. "You look like you're running from someone, and from the looks of you it would appear you just got off the boat that came in a little while ago. Did you run into Marl down there?"
"Marl?"
"Rather barrel chested sailor. Has a pair of Machokes he uses to do his work while his boss isn't looking." The man said. "He isn't really fond of foreigners, and even less so of people that aren't keen of the way he treats those pokemon." The man held out his hand with a smile, as if encouraging V to take it. "My name is Byron, and I'm the Gym leader for Canalave City."
V looked at him for a second before taking Byron's hand and pulling himself up. "My name's V. I'm from the Johto region. I just got off the boat when those men were about to attack me."
"Typical of them." Byron sneered. "Although it would seem like you're in one piece so i'll take it you can take care of yourself. Is there anything I can do to help you get settled in to the City?"
V looked around a second and sheepishly said, "I wouldn't mind you walking me to the pokemon center. If only to deter anyone to thinking I'm alone." Byron nodded and turned, motioning for V to follow him.
About ten minutes later they made it across the bridge and Byron pointed to the red roof building with a large "P" over the door. Byron looked V dead in the eyes and said, "Now, V, you make sure to enjoy yourself here in Sinnoh. Not everyone is like Marl."
"You mean people actually bathe?" V said cocking his head slightly to the left smiling ever so coy. With that Byron let out a belly, rumbling laugh and turned to head across the bridge. He waved over his shoulder to V as he walked away and put his hands over the back of his head. V turned away from him and walked into the pokemon center. His first steps into his first Sinnoh adventure had begun, and he felt almost ready to take on the world.
