• Welcome back to Pokécharms! We've recently launched a new site and upgraded forums, so there may be a few teething issues as everything settles in. Please see our Relaunch FAQs for more information.

Private/Closed At the Mercy of Maiestas, the Corporate Region

Also, on the locales (specifically the routes), when you say that Pokémon of those types appear, does that mean that it could be any Pokémon that can appear that is of that type in that route? Say all Bug-Types can be found in Chittering Woods (barring Ultra Beasts and Legendaries and Mythicals).

OH! Before I post, what's the max amount of Pokedollars we can carry? I know everyone is choosing 4,500P, but I was wondering if we could have a little more than that. Say, 5,500P or maybe even 6,000P, since Victor did work for Silph Co. for a while and the paychecks are pretty big there. I'm content with starting with 4,500P if this request is denied, but you did say at least 4,500P. XD

EDIT: I'm dumb and forgot what Silph Co. was called so I kept calling it Saffron Inc. XD I changed any and all mentions of Saffron Inc. or Silph Inc. into Silph Co. XD My bad.

EDIT 2: Also, is there a way for Dragon-Types to learn Draco Meteor in Maiestas from a Move Tutor, orrr.... No?
Eh, it's not really Silph at this point :p It's technically Saffron Conglomerate now, but that's a mouthful. Saffron Inc. is accurate. Challenge rules dictate you to start off with 3000P, but you can bring more to pay for the license. But once you get that license, you can only have a maximum of 3000P. As for the Move Tutor? Probably, but unlike the games it's not free :p And you probably won't run into a fella like that until the 7th or 8th Gym.

Basically, yes. It means that type of Pokemon is common. Maiestas is unique in that it's got very diverse environments, and nearly any Pokemon can thrive in the right ones. Of course, Chittering Woods is a haven for Bug and Grass types. However, because of it's proximity to Primum and Idoll it's got a much more diverse environment than other such locales.

Name: Carlos Vincent Ashton
Age:
16 Years Old
Gender: Male: He/Him. Orientation is Bisexual [A little UwU]
Appearance:
Around 6'4. He has dark brown hair with silver eyes to complete the look. His cheek has a cut on it from when he was attacked by a Raticate. He usually wears a black leather jacket complete with dark blue jeans. His voice is really average for a male his age: not to high pitched and not too deep/baritone either.
Personality: He is often the oddball. He's always silent but when it comes down to it, He will open his mouth when needed. His strongest asset is not his pokemon. It's his brain and his strategy. He often plans out his attacks before hitting.

Starter Pokemon: Gastly (F) [Shadow Sneak, Protect, Lick, and Mean Look]
Backstory:
(Brace yourself for angst)

Carlos was raised in Lavender Town. He became 10 and decided to start his adventure. He caught nearly all 151 pokemon. When he returned home, he saw the most heartbreaking thing. His mother was dead. He immediately buried her and sobbed. He tried to live with his father, but he was gone. He left him to go live with another woman. Carlos was left alone with his depression. After realizing he never caught the Gastly family line, he went to his own home town to catch it and finish the POKeDEX.

When he came across the ghost pokemon, he couldn't even battle it because he fell to the floor and cried. The Gastly cried too because, like the human, she too had lost someone she loved. The pair became fast friends and he never caught her until he traveled to this new region.

If he caught nearly all 151 Pokemon, I'm assuming he didn't catch the Legendaries... Right? Then that would be 146, minus the Gastly line is 143. XD So uh... I'm hoping your character didn't catch any Legendary.

OH! Before I forget, how much do you think are the items in the mart? I don't remember if there was a certain percentage of how expensive they were, but yea, was just wondering if there was a specific rise in price.

Hmm...I'll say accepted for now, but perhaps go into him catching all the Pokemon before attempting the challenge? Any particular motivations for trying it? Because catching over 100 Pokemon is a feat in of itself, much less several unique species. Note that I am taking the idea that no, not every trainer is like our Mary Sue playable one who catches 100s at a time :p

Well, I'm gonna say for simplicity's sake that Gen VII Prices for double the price (400P for a Potion or Pokeball, 3000P for a Hyper Potion, etc). See here for more.

OH! Another thing that I just forgot to ask XD

What's the limit on violence and swearing? Also, is it possible that the officials will take a swiss army knife, and, if so, can Victor have his Deino wear it around his neck and keep Deino in his Poké Ball to avoid anyone taking his knife, or no?

They allow basic supplies, personal food, tools and such. Swiss army knife, bedrolls, and survival guides would be fine. Something like an Exp. Share or Power Band wouldn't be, since it can benefit the Pokemon.

Also those lists are super convinient citing sources. Good work! Probably something I should've organized myself :p

As stated, most Pokemon in the Woods are part of a pack or are strong in their own right. Careful choosing where you sleep :p

I had to do something about it because it was bugging the absolute hell out of me and I needed a reference to make Victor's future team. XD

But yea, what's the limit on swearing and violence?

Oh, right. I don't mind some swearing as long as you aren't cursing every other word. Arte's prolly gonna get a curse or two out on his journey, so certainly a thirty year old can too :p And as long as it's gratuitous descriptions of blood and gore, your still good. Just don't overboard with the stuff.

Oh! If you give me a list of areas or routes that have Pokémon of differing types, share them with me and I'll get a list going for ya. :) If you couldn't tell, I really like making lists and categories and such. :3

I knew there were Move Tutors in games (I've been studying Pokémon and the games for 15 years, I should know that by now XD), I just wasn't so sure that there was one in Maiestas. But if there were any, they would charge you. Besides, my question was already answered, so your 12 hours late. Besides, I was specifically asking for Maiestas, not the core games that this RP is not based on.

Oh, @BurbleBurble, what's the limit on Pokémon Moves and such? As in, can the Pokémon learn any moves from past generations and so forth or is it only limited to the Gen VII learnsets (both the Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon learnsets and Let's Go, Pikachu and Eevee learnsets)?

And do event moves count, or should they even be in play?

I'm gonna say for keep to Gen VII movesets for your own Pokemon, but gym leaders cheat and have most any move availible at any point at time, a la Lance's Dragonite

As for Event moves, that's gonna be another no. Because those are special cases :p

Do Gym Leaders have to monotype, and how involved are they in city government?
Gym leaders are actually not monotype. Instead, they all star around a general theme or idea in their attacks, so you can't just bring type advantage Pokemon to cheese it.

For example- the Gym leader Veronica, first hurdle to get over and holder of the Equalizer badge. The theme is that each of her Pokemon cover one another's weakness. So she has a Water/Grass/Fire team, or a Dark/Fighting/Psychic team. Most Gym leaders carry more than one team so you can't bring perfect counters to them.

Outside of Veronica, there's a Gym leader who uses moves that always hit, one that uses stat increasing moves, one that uses one hit ko moves...the exception is the eighth gym leader, who uses a combination of all these strategies. These strategies do have counters, but they are a little more complex than bringing Pokemon who are effective against X Type.

They generally don't have much in the way of goverment sway. They are appointed gym leader cause they are exceptional trainers seeked out by the corp. And may have been blackmailed just a bit.

That being said, a Gym leader still has a sense of authority within their city or town of residence. If a gym leader shows up to something, you can tell something is up. That someone messed it up bad. Considering most Enforcers don't carry a Pokemon or hold very few, they are akin to a last resort to dealing with Pokemon based issues.

A few things I'd like to say here.

First off, I'm sorry Kittens if you wanted that interaction to carry on. I wasn't exactly sure if you wanted it to or not (And it seemed like Keon was pretty sick of Arte too :p) and kinda wanted to move forward.

If you guys need more description on the Chittering Wood, I'm totally willing to give it. It's a good walking time, as described in the post, and may need to take more than one day to clear. Of course, the Chittering Wood isn't too safe at night. Not that the day is *much* better, but you don't have ravenous packs of Nincada after you :p

I'm probably going to accept one or two more people and close off the RP. If someone really wants to hop in later, I'll see about it, but they'll need a catch up at that point :p

Lastly, since Pichu asked for it, here's some towns and areas we'll be heading to once we've passed the first gym and Estuary.
Old Primum
Previous port of Maiestas, the new port is far bigger and less sketchy. And Primum Town is still very sketchy. Old Primum suffers from high crime rates, wild Pokemon in the streets, and an unsafe feel all around. It has a Pokemart and Pokecenter, but these are basically the only areas you should visit before getting out of the town.
Common types here are Dark and Flying.

Valley of the Brave
Named for those who dare challenge it, the valley is a dangerous place. Rainfall threaten flooding often. Many dangerous and strong Pokemon call the valley their home. Truly a challenge, the reward being a straight-shot path to the next town, as opposed to the winding cliffs.
Common types here are Rock and Poison. Less common are Fire and Ghost.

Pass of the Meek
The cliff sides around the valley are a lot safer. Usually the biggest threat are flocks of birds, and even they are easily shooed off. The problem is that the path is far longer, spanning bridges and winding across the valley’s edge. The pass is safer, given you don’t slip into the valley below.
Common types here are Flying and Rock. Less common are Fire, Poison, and Ghost.

Lliad City, City of the Flowers - Doozy Badge
A city notable for it’s gardens and central park, which is kept immaculately clean for demonstrations and actual purposes. It’s gym leader is a man named Kirst, holder of the Doozy Badge. This city is the first notable uptick in quality, though it is nothing compared to the later cities of Maiestas, especially those close to the League.

The Bleak Desert
But following Lliad is an even greater challenge. Many a trainer walk into the desert, few walk out the same person. The days are blazing hot and the nights are bone-chillingly cold. It’s a choice between one or the other, truly. And one must cross this desert a few times to attain all eight gym badges, which doesn’t exactly make it a one and done deal.
Not to mention only the strongest Pokemon thrive out here. Those who don’t either fly high enough to avoid conflict, or dig beneath the earth to avoid it.
Common types here are Poison, Ground, Rock, and Flying. Less common are Fire, Steel, Ghost, and Dragon.

Oasis City, Shining Jewel of the Desert - Rampage Badge
In the midst of the heated desert, lay a paradise seen by those who brave it. The Oasis City is one of the destinations you must arrive to receive a gym badge- the Rampage Badge, held by Lawrence.
Oasis, similar to Primum, Idoll, Old Primum, and Lliad, gets progressively less safe at night. It’s worse than Lliad, assumably because of trainers stranded in after losing against the Rampage badge, but better than Primum and Old Primum at the least. Enforcers do a sweep of the city at night, as it is a popular resort spot, which helps keep down crime.

One last thing I'd like to address- I probably wouldn't make a six party team, or focus on only six Pokemon in your journey. Nine or Twelve would probably what you aim for, enough to swap out members who clearly won't fair well against a gym or route. Thankfully, you get a PC Box for free with your License. You may need to pay for everything else, but not this :p

Ahh, was wondering about that. XD Made an entire team that covered all of their weaknesses and I dont have to worry about extra Pokemon. XD I'll think of more, like status Pokemon.

Sorry about the awkward chunkiness of my post. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to introduce the Chittering Woods (Or how to XD), I'll wait on someone else to do the hard work like laying out a scene :D.

I'm probably going to accept one or two more people and close off the RP. If someone really wants to hop in later, I'll see about it, but they'll need a catch up at that point :p
I was actually hoping to jump in much later as a Gym Leader. There are 7 journeyers already and diversifying our entries is nice. How far into the story that'll be depends on how everyone's characters develop. Might not get to it at all.

Hope I can still join in.

Name: Matias Silvestre

Age: 36

Gender: Male

Appearance: A bit pudgy and showing signs of middle age already: thinning hair, stretch marks, est. Typically wears comfortable long sleeve shirts and sweat pants. Has a “bad mark” branded on his neck, despite only JUST getting off the boat to Maiestas, marking him as an “easy target.”

Personality: A bit out of his depth, but meaning well. He’s incredibly determined but at the same time conservative of his own well-being.

Starter Pokemon:

Swinub:

Ability: Oblivious

Average moves:

Blizzard

Earthquake

Ice Shard

Mudslap

Backstory: Matias Silvestre was not a Pokémon trainer. He kept a Poliwhirl at home as a companion and to help him around the house, but he never actively trained with his Pokémon. His son however, was a different matter. Watching the influx of great trainers, like Red, Blue, Ethan, Chase, Leaf, and Elaine: filled his soul with a burning passion and on his 10th birthday he got his Pokémon license and caught a Venonat as his starter.

It was only two short years until his son was an accomplished trainer. A full team of six strong pokémon, seven badges under his belt, and over 20,000 poké to his name: Matias couldn’t be more proud of how successful his son was. He was set to take on the Pokémon league later that year, but heard of the Maiestas region and was thrilled to take on the best of the best from around the world. Although Matias was hesitant about his son going so far away from home, he trusted his skills and knew as long as he had his Pokémon, he’d be well protected. Little did he know this would be the last time he’d see his son.

Around one year later, Matias got a knock at his door. Upon opening, he saw three well-dressed "business" men at his door. He was told that his son had incurred a debt of two hundred thousand poké with the Benedetto Family and that they were here to collect. Matias was utterly shocked and couldn’t believe his son would get into this kind of trouble. At first he was resilient to their intimidation, but as soon as the gents unleashed their Pokémon and attacked him viciously he was subdued. Matias said he didn’t have that kind of money and that it wasn’t fair they were coming after him for the money. The mobsters chuckled and said that he was a cosigner, given that his son was a minor and couldn’t make a loan on his own. Matias hadn’t even heard of this contract before, but given his situation, he was willing to offer collateral to at least get them away for now. However the mobster chuckled again and said they needed hard poké, as they already took his son and his Pokémon as collateral.

With little actual poké Matias could offer, the mobster gave him one option, take the next boat to Maiestas and work to pay off the debt, or fight in Pokémon battles. Either way, he had to make the money back, or never see his son again. Then finally to ensure how serious he was, the mobster brought his Houndoom over and took out a metal brand. He ordered his Houndoom to heat the brand and the other two mobsters to hold him still… <Redacted>

… with the pain never able to truly go away, due to Houndoom’s cursed flames. Matias ran off to the International Police office and talked to his friend Brendon Alma and explained the situation. While IP was fully aware of the horrors taking place on Maiestas, there was little they can do with all the legal red tape. However, knowing the rules of Maiestas, Brendon was prepared to give his friend the best advantage he could; giving him a pokéball with a police trained Swinub. Over the next week, Brendon helped teach Maiestas about the basics of battling, type advantage, and how best to use his new Pokémon. They also pooled enough money to give Matias his best shot, he’d land with 3,000 poké in the region. With a pat on the back and a good hug, Brendon watched as his friend boarded the boat for Maiestas, hoping hard he’d find a way to come out of this on top.

Hmm, I like him! Matias is in, and with that I think I'll close off submissions unless other people want to be Gym leaders. Which I'm up for, because as previously mentioned...only 1 and 8 are really planned out at this point :p

I have made my own personal notes on Google Docs and have copy+pasted it all over and getting rid of all Legendaries and Mega Evolutions that I had on my personal notes, along with another site's Pokemon. Hopefully I got them all. XD

EDIT: Alright, looked through them and there are no errors :3

Out of curiosity, why did the Beedrill carry a Shiny Stone? Just because they aren't a standard held item for Beedrill. That'd be a Poison Barb. Not to mention, how the hell does a Beedrill carry a stone? Or pick it up in the first place. Unless some cruel trainer taped it to them, they would not have a whole stone stuck to their tail...stinger...abdomen. One of those.

It's such a sudden thing. Look, if we were crossing the desert and you found a Shiny Stone, or the valley or even the estuary, that would of made sense. But for your Pokemon to achieve a final evolution in the first "route" is pretty insane.

Look, I'm not going to tell you to roll it back. But this is annoying me quite a bit. This kid somehow snuck four Pokemon past security, had a performance in a packed town, made it out without being noticed by anyone that he had snuck four past, not only survives a pack of Beedrill but just so happens to find one with a Shiny Stone stuck to it's stinger. And did most of this with a type disadvantage as well. Even if this was one of the more experienced or older individuals such as Victor or Matias this would be a pretty far stretch.

Basically, slow down. Big time. I know you want Neo to be some expert trainer from the get go, but the kid's greatest experience in anything was Pokemon Contests. Basically, he's gotten as far as he has from luck, purely and truly.

...Also, the Beedrill haven't actually attacked anyone in your group. Keon just avoided them, and lamented whoever would run into them next. Both he and Arte are also ahead of said group. Not that it's not a logical connection to what happens next with the group, but it's certainly not happening in any of the other posts so far.

Hello all! Just wanted to say sorry for not posting anything for some time...

Also, sorry about the unrealisticness of the shiny stone, I'm going to change that into something that makes more sense.
I haven't posted in forever either, so no worries. And thank you for the change, I appreciate that.

I'm still waiting on a few people, but if they don't get back to replying after I get back from my shift tonight, I will start making a post to get this RP going along.
