Johto: Travel and Battle

Platinum slightly laughed at Dakotas friend, as he teased her.

"I am Platinum Carnet. I am traveling with Dakota, to the Battle Frontier in Olivine." He explained.

Beck looked on with a mixture of mirth and nostalgia as the two red-heads bickered. The squabbling trainer and the teasing waiter reminded him of good times, back when he was still on his first Pokemon journey, back when he still... The tall man blinked as his heart was suddenly overwhelmed by old emotions and quickly shook his head to repress the lingering memories. That had been too close to comfort. He would have to be more careful from now on.

Shaking off his internal discomfort, the masked trainer turned to introduce himself to the new arrival with a calm smile. "My name is Beck. I'm just a temporary traveling companion to Dakota and Platinum here."

"Just take their orders Axel," Dakota seethed. Axel just chuckled and already wrote down her order which she didnt even have to say.
"What can I get you two?" Axel asked politely. He was much kinder and friendlier than Dakota was.

Beck went and sat down in the seat diagonal to Dakota and took the menu into his hands. The trainer then flipped through a few pages of the thin booklet before deciding on his order.

"I'll take an oran berry soup and a cup of water," the trainer said with a smile.

Jacob and Oshawott continued on their way to Goldenrod City. It was a leisurely walk from Azalea Town to Goldenrod, but it was not enjoyed. Supposedly it wasn’t a long walk, but still Jacob and Oshawott were tired. They had been on the move for some time now, with only a couple nights at most spent in each town. Jacob rubbed his eyes and yawned as he paused for a moment. As he did, he heard s twig snap behind him. He swung around to see what was happening, but saw nothing. He squinted, looking carefully into the trees and he saw something move. Before he could react, however, something hit him from behind.

Thud! Jacob staggered for a moment, before standing up straight again. He could feel that Oshawott was no longer perched on his shoulder.

“Oshawott?” He turned around frantically to see where his pokemon went. Several feet from him, Oshawott lay on the ground, pinned by a Noctowl. “Alright then,” Jacob said, reaching for Ledian’s pokeball. Something stopped him, however, before he had reached it. He turned to see a Granbull, holding his arm. As he understood what was happening, the Granbull slammed his shoulder into Jacob’s stomach, knocking him to the ground. Still holding Jacob’s arms, the Granbull sat atop Jacob, preventing him from using his other pokemon. As Jacob reassessed, he heard someone remove themselves from the nearby brush. He counted enough for at least two of them.

“That was easier than I thought,” one said to the other. “And look at all we got!” Jacob felt his belt slip away from him, all his pokeballs still on it. He heard the people checking each of them. “Only one of em’s full!” He heard one of the people cry.

“Don’t worry,” the other responded. “We’ve still got the Oshawott, so at the very least…” but the man stopped talking. He heard several grunts before feeling the Granbull release him. Jacob flipped over to see two men running away from him, Granbull and Noctowl on either side of them. As he watched, he could feel Oshawott tugging on his arm. Jacob turned to his pokemon, who handed him back his belt with all of his pokeballs still attached. He wondered why the men had just up and left.

He turned around to see the answer. An old man stood just behind him; he couldn’t have been younger than 70. Wearing a dark brown coat, he was carrying a large sac, flung over his shoulder. Beside him stood a Slowking. The pokemon turned and gave a blank stare at Jacob. Jacob lifted himself to his feet, and faced the man.

“Thank you,” he began. “Thanks for… well for saving me and Oshawott.” The old man smiled and nodded at him.

“Those men have been haunting these woods for a long time; them, and men like ‘em. Never could stand ‘em. Are you okay?” Jacob brushed himself off.

“Yea I’m fine,” Jacob responded as he extended his hand. “I’m Jacob, and this here is Oshawott.” The old man took Jacob’s hand and gave it a firm shake.

“Arby,” the man replied. “And this is my Slowking.” Slowking just looked up at them, without saying a word. Jacob gave the pokemon a nod before turning back to the old man.

“Well, Arby, you saved my life; is there anything I can do to help?” Jacob paused for a moment, but before the old man could answer, he continued. “Maybe I could carry that bag for you, wherever you’re going?” Jacob offered. The man looked Jacob over cautiously before reluctantly dropping the bag to the ground.

“I suppose I am a bit old to be carrying such a thing.” Jacob lifted the bag, but it was far heavier than he thought. Jacob struggled to throw it over his shoulder, before he and the old man set off. Arby told Jacob about his home in the woods, where he had lived for nearly thirty years now. Jacob told Arby all about his travels in Kalos, and Arby told Jacob about his grandson, Bugsy, who was a gym leader in Azalea Town. Jacob told Arby about how he had beaten Bugsy, and the two of them shared a laugh. Arby’s home was less than a mile away, and when they arrived, the old man offered Jacob a room for the night. Jacob happily accepted.

Jacob woke with a start. He was sweating pretty heavily, and was out of breath. For his life he couldn’t remember what he was dreaming about, but he was startled again when he saw a shadow in the doorway. He took a closer look, realizing it was Slowking. The pokemon tilted his head, looking Jacob over. Jacob gave the pokemon a strained look back. Then he looked over at Oshawott, who was still fast asleep next to him. Jacob looked out the window; it was already light out. He quickly got out of bed and threw on clothes. As he walked downstairs, he could smell fresh pancakes. Apparently Arby was a good cook as well; although, Jacob supposed one had to be to live alone for so long. As Jacob entered the kitchen, Arby greeted him.

“Looks like someone had a tough sleep,” the old man joked. Jacob looked himself over, realizing he probably looked really sweaty. “Don’t worry,” Arby added. “You can take a shower before you leave.”

“Thanks!” Jacob replied immediately; in fact, a bit too fast.

“Ha,” Arby laughed. “I suppose you haven’t had a shower in…”

“Two and a half weeks,” Jacob filled in.

“Dear God!” The old man replied, turning away from his cooking for a moment before returning to his work. “I remember when I used to travel like that!”

“You were a pokemon trainer once?” Jacob inquired.

“Well don’t sound so surprised,” Arby joked. “Yeah, I was a great trainer once; made it all the way to the pokemon league in Kanto and here in Johto. I traveled for four years! Ah, those were the days.”

“Really?” Jacob asked. “Why did you stop?”

“Well, I met a woman!” Arby said, half laughing. “It’s really difficult to keep going, ya know, once you start a family. Sometimes, I wish I could still travel…”

“Well you can, can’t you? I mean, that’s what you were doing when you saved me, right?”

“Ha!” Arby laughed in response. “Nah, I was just bringing my things to my new home in Azalea town.”

“You’re moving?”

“Yea… I figured it’s about time to be with my family, you know,” Arby said, pausing once again from his cooking. “I do wish I could travel just one more time; ol’ Slowking here would’ve liked that.”

Jacob looked over at the doorway to the kitchen, where Oshawott now stood rubbing his eyes. “Morning,” Jacob said, chuckling about the lateness with which his pokemon arrived.

“You know,” Arby continued as he placed a plate of pancakes in front of Jacob. “Would you do me a favor?”

“Of course,” Jacob replied. “Anything.”

“When you leave, would you…” Arby paused, halting his production of pancakes once more, and faced Jacob. “Would you take Slowking with you?”

“Wha-no, no I couldn’t,” Jacob replied. “You’ve been with Slowking for years! Besides, wouldn’t you be lonely?”
“Ah, I’m going to be with my family,” Arby responded. “They won’t give me enough time, to be lonely. And anyway, Slowking; he just isn’t ready to settle quite yet. He wouldn’t like it, and I couldn’t do it to him. Please, take Slowkng with you, and use him as part of your team. I promise he’ll be a good member.”

“Well… I guess I could,” Jacob looked over at Slowking who had just sat in a small, Slowking-sized seat at the far end of the table. “I’ll do it. I can’t thank you enough…”

“No, no… I can’t thank you enough,” Arby walked over to Jacob’s chair. “Now eat up! You’ve got a lot more pancakes coming!”

___________________________________________________________________

Jacob continued on his way to Goldenrod City. The city itself was only about a mile away, and Jacob was beginning to get excited: not just because he was approaching another gym badge, but also because of the new addition to his team. Slowking would definitely be a powerful ally, and Jacob was looking forward to using his new pokemon as soon as possible. Jacob turned to look at Oshawott, who was happily eating an oran berry, sitting on Jacob’s shoulder. He turned back to the road, and continued on his way.

He began to think about how he had been getting his pokemon. In Kalos he battled and caught every one of his pokemon. Here, he already had half of his team, and he hadn’t actually caught a single one of them; Ledian had joined his team after Jacob had helped him defeat the bully Ariados, and now Slowking was sent with him to have another adventure. He missed capturing pokemon, and as he was thinking about this, he came across his chance. A wild Murkrow had flown into the center of the road, pecking at the ground. This was a perfect chance to catch a pokemon, Jacob thought, as well as try out his new one. He threw a pokeball, and in a flash of red, Slowking appeared.

“Slowking, use water gun!” Slowking opened his mouth slowly, released a powerful jet of water at the wild Murkrow. Mukrow was quick, however, and flew into the sky, avoiding Slowking’s attack. Murkrow attacked next releasing a black beam of energy in a night shade attack. The attack slammed into Slowking, and the pokemon dropped to his knees in pain. “Slowking!” Jacob called out. “Use Psychic!” Slowking glowed blue, catching Murkrow in a similar glow. Slowking slammed Murkrow on the ground, and the pokemon struggled to get up. “Now, Slowking, use water gun!” Slowking released another beam of water, slamming into Murkrow, and knocking the pokemon unconscious. Jacob threw an empty pokeball, capturing the Murkrow. “Well done, Slowking!”

___________________________________________________________________________

When Jacob entered Goldenrod City, his first impulse was to head straight for the gym. He fast-walked to the center of the city, where the gym was. However, on the front steps were three men he recognized. The three men stood around another young man, who was on the ground.

“You..” Jacob overheard one of them men say. “You chose Chikorita as your starter?!? And it hasn’t evolved yet? No wonder you got beat so bad by Whitney!” The three men laughed, and Jacob clenched his fists.

“But… but you also chose Chikorita,” the boy on the ground said. Jacob moved a bit closer, and recognized the Chikorita, the same one from the forest near Cherrygrove, on leash, staring at the ground.

“Yea,” one of the men replied. “But I just did it for a joke! I don’t use this pokemon here!” The man laughed at that was all Jacob could take. He grabbed the man on the shoulder.

“Enough!” Jacob said. The three men turned around, angrily, before they realized who it was.

“You again?!? What’s your problem?”

“You have to stop,” Jacob said. “You keep Chikorita on a leash? I think it’s time to release her, no? Let her find a trainer who actually wants her.”

“Well, she’s my pokemon, and no one is going to take her from me!” The man stuck up his nose, and smiled wryly. “How about this,” the man replied. “I’ll battle you again; we’ll have a little rematch. And if I win, I get your Oshawott. And if you win, you can have Chikorita; return her to the professor, find a trainer for her; release her for all I care. All you have to do is win a battle.” Jacob didn’t like the terms, but he looked up at Oshawott, and the pokemon was shaking with rage.

“Fine, let’s do it!” Oshawott nodded, and Jacob took a step back, reaching for his pokemon. He thought for a moment; Murkrow was too new for this battle; Slowking was definitely Jacob’s most powerful pokemon, but he was, frankly too slow. Jacob trusted Ledian more than any pokemon but Oshawott. But Ledian’s typing left it relatively open. Nonetheless, he figured Ledian was the best choice. He released Ledian who appeared at Jacob’s side.

“This time, you won’t be lucky! Let’s go, Houndor!” The fire hound pokemon appeared in front of the man, who confidently smiled. “Houndor, use ember!” The pokemon sent a column of burning embers at Ledian.

“Ledian, silver wind!” Ledian released a powerful set of wind blasts, which dispelled Houndor’s ember attack. One of the blasts hit the ground in front of Houndor, forcing the pokemon to brace itself. “Now, Ledian, use supersonic!”

“Houndor, dodge it!” Houndor leapt to the side, easily dodging Ledian’s attack. “Now, fire fang!” Houndor lunged at Ledian, his mouth foaming with flames.

“Ledian, dodge it!” Ledian flew high in the sky out of Houndor’s reach. It was Jacob’s advantage, he figured, that Ledian could stay far away from Houndor, whose most powerful attacks seemed to be close ranged. “Now, use bug buzz!” Ledian released red waves of energy which covered the field, harming Houndor, who could not escape the noise.

“Houndor!” the man shouted after his pokemon, who was rendered immobile by the attack.

“Now, Ledian, use supersonic!” Ledian stopped its bug buzz and released a supersonic attack, which easily hit the recovering Houndor. The confused pokemon stumbled to the side, and fell to the ground. “Look,” Jacob said to the man. “There’s no need to continue; it’s clear that the battle is over.” The man angrily stared at his Houndor.

“The battle is not over! Houndor use ember!” Houndor stood, shaking its head but it fired its embers at the ground, harming himself and forcefully sending himself falling backwards.

“Very well, Ledian, use comet punch!” Ledian flew in close range and unleashed a barrage of punches at Houndor, continuing the attack until Houndor fell to the ground, unconscious.

“No! That wasn’t fair!” the man shouted at Jake. “You’re not taking my pokemon. Come on out!” he shouted as he released three pokeballs. An Ariados, Croconow, and Ursaring appeared in front of the man who smiled confidently. “What are you going to do now, eh?”

“He’s going to take your Chikorita,”a voice that came from behind them. Jacob turned to see the gym leader, Whitney, standing beside her Clefairy. “You lost, and more importantly, you need to let your Chikorita go to an actual pokemon trainer. Release your Chikorita, recall your pokemon, and leave.” She spoke so definitively, that one of the man’s friends tapped him on the shoulder, no doubt whispering agreement to Whitney’s terms. The man nodded silently, removing the leash from Chikorita before leaving the area, his pokemon close behind him. The Chikorita ran over to Jacob and nuzzled his leg. Jacob bent down, and began petting the pokemon.

“Thank you,” Jacob said to Whitney, who stood beside him. “I wasn’t sure he was actually going to let me take her.”

“Well,” the gym leader replied. “I wouldn’t usually support that sort of gambling with people’s pokemon, but that man…”

“I agree,” Jacob responded. “I’m Jacob by the way,” he said, sticking out his hand.

“Whitney,” the gym leader answered, without shaking Jacob’s hand. “You’re here for a gym battle, right?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Well, come on, then,” she motioned towards the gym. Jacob followed her inside to a stadium with many seats all around, entirely empty. Each of them took their places, and Whitney shouted to Jacob. “This battle will be three versus three. Are you ready?”

“Let’s do it.”

“Alright, Nidorina!” the woman called out. In a flash, her pokemon appeared in front of her. Jacob had never seen a Nidorina before, but he wouldn’t let his awe get the best of him. At his feet, Oshawott sat with Chikorita. Jacob hoped that Oshawott would be able to keep her calm; it had been an interesting day for the both of them. With Ledian injured, and Chikorita too fresh, Jacob had few choices for pokemon.

“Come on out, Murkrow!” Murkrow appeared in the sky in front of Jacob. “Murkrow, use night shade!” Murkrow released a beam of black energy at Nidorina. Whitney shouted out an order, but her pokemon wasn’t fast enough to dodge the attack, disappearing in a cloud of smoke. When the smoke cleared, the pokemon stood, almost unharmed.

“Nidorina, use poison sting!” Nidorina released small purple needles which hit Murkrow, knocking him to the ground. Murkrow stood, but didn’t look quite right. Jacob understood: the pokemon was poisoned. “Great, Nidorina. Now, use double kick!” Nidorina flew forwards at a great speed, leaping into the air before slamming her feet into Murkrow. The bird pokemon fell backwards to the ground, unconscious.

“Murkrow!” Jacob shouted before recalling his pokemon. “Alright Oshawott, you’re up!” Oshawott leapt from his conversation with Chikorita and walked onto the field. “Oshawoot, use water gun!”

“Nidorina, dodge it!” Nidorina easily sidestepped Oshawott’s attack. “Now, use poison sting!” Nidorina sent a column of poison needles at Oshawott.

“Oshawott, use aqua jet!” Oshawott was covered with water and fired forwards, narrowly dodging the poison sting attack before slamming into Nidorina. Nidorina struggled to get to her feet as Jacob gave the next order. “Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott fired a blast of water at Nidorina, who was hit and sent skidding across the field. As she came to a stop, the pokemon dropped her head to the ground, unconscious.

“Return, Nidoina,” Whitney said as Nidorina disappeared from the field. “Clefairy, you’re up!” Clefairy stepped forward from Witney’s side of the field, and flexed, prepared for battle.

“Alright Oshawott, use water gun again!” Oshawott fired a water gun attack at Clefairy.

“Clefairy, use moonblast!” Clefairy fired a ball of pink energy at the water gun. The two attacks collided, and dispelled each other. “Now use disarming voice!” Clefairy released purple waves of sound that overcame Oshawott, forcing him to cover his ears.

“Oshawott, use aqua jet!” Oshawott few out of the attack, covered in water. He slammed into Clefairy, knocking the pokemon to the ground. “And now use water pulse!” Oshawott released a ball of water that surrounded Clefairy. The water vibrated for a time before releasing the pink pokemon, who fell to the ground, unconscious.

“Wow,” Whitney said. “Your Oshawott really is something,” she commented, recalling her pokemon. “But he won’t stand a chance against my next pokemon! Your turn, Miltank!” Miltank energetically stepped from side to side, prepared for battle.

“Oshawott, use water pulse!” Again Oshawott released a ball of water, floating towards Miltank.

“Miltank, use rollout!” The cow pokemon rolled up into a ball, and sent itself forward, easily breaking through Oshawott’s attack before slamming into Oshawott himself.

“Oshawott!” Jacob called out as his pokemon fell to the ground.

“Miltank, use rollout again!” Again Miltank rolled towards Oshawott.

“Oshawott, use aqua jet!” The two attacks collided in the center of the field, but Miltank’s attack was more powerful, and Oshawott fell to the ground, struggling to move.

“Again, Miltank, use rollout!” Once more, Miltank slammed into Oshawott, knocking him to the ground, unconscious.

Jacob walked over to Oshawott, and picked him up. Walking back to his position, he placed Oshawott on the ground beside him. Reaching for a pokeball, he prepared his next move.

“Slowking, your turn!” Jacob said as Slowking appeared in a flash of red. “Slowking, use water gun!” Slowking released a beam of water larger than Oshawott’s.

“Miltank, dodge, and then use rollout!” Miltank sidestepped Slowking’s water gun attack before rolling up in a ball once more and firing herself at her opponent.

“Slowking, use confusion!” Miltank glowed purple before firing backwards, still in a ball, slamming into a nearby wall. When the dust cleared, Miltank stood, clutching her arm which had been damaged in the attack. “Now, use psychic!” Miltank glowed blue as she was lifted from the ground high into the sky. She was released, and the pokemon hit the ground with a loud thud! Miltank was unable to move, rendered unconscious. Jacob had won.

Platinum examined the menu as well, quickly deciding what he wanted once he spotted it on the menu.

The top pokeathlete looked up to the waitor.

"May I have the Pecca Swiss Crapes, but without the onions, and an ice tea, please?" He asked, setting the menu down.

Axel nodded. "Got it," he said then looked at Dakota. He trained his eyes back to her traveling companions. "Have fun with her, she's feisty." He winked at them. But scurried away, just missing a thrown table knife that Dakota had thrown. Her green gaze all fired up with anger and annoyance. "Stupid," she muttered and looked at Absol who had a look of amusement on his face. She narrowed her eyes on her dark pokemon who quickly looked away.

Beck sat silently for a few moments as he waited for the food to come and watched the small city through the restaurant window. The city wasn't all that large, it was actually quite modest and nothing much had really changed since the last time he'd come here. The natural peace of the city calmed him and it was one of the main reasons as to why he liked it here - despite the fact that he had only been here a few times.

The masked trainer then leaned back against his chair, leisurely taking in the tranquil atmosphere, and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Platinum had taken glances out the widow every now and then as well, but mainly kept himself busy as he played with the stray Umbreon, feeding it treats - as it was easy to see the poor thing hadn't eaten in long whiles.

He enjoyed the peacefulness of the restaurant - despite the teasing and silver-wear throwing, in which he tended to laugh at.

“Chikorita, use razor leaf!” The pokemon awkwardly stepped forward, swinging her head and releasing a wave of leaves flying towards Murkrow. “Murkrow, dodge it!” Murkrow flew into the air, but was not fast enough, and Chikorita’s attack clipped Murkrow’s foot. Chikorita stopped her attack and smiled. “Well done, Chikorita!” Jacob said, ending their practice session. “You’ve really improved!”

“Chik, Chikorita” the pokemon happily responded with a big smile. Jacob recalled Murkrow, and he and Chikorita and Oshawott continued walking towards Ecruteak City. He and his pokemon had already been walking for a day and a half, having made it through route thirty five and on to route thirty six.

Jacob turned immediately when he heard something in the bushes. He looked closely but couldn’t see anything. This felt familiar. He immediately did a 180 degree turned reaching for his pokemon. “Oshawott, use razor shell” he shouted. Oshawott stood at attention on Jacob’s shoulder, preparing his shell for an attack. And then it came.

A Noctowl emerged from the bushes, flying towards Jacob. Oshawott leapt from Jacob’s shoulder, and slammed his attack into the attacking Noctowl. The Noctowl dropped to the ground, and Oshawott landed beside it. Jacob turned around again. Where was the other one? He analyzed each of the bushes very closely, and noticed a small, purple tail sticking out of one. “Chokorita, use razor leaf!” Chikorita fired a barrage of leaves into the bush, hitting Granbull, and sending the pokemon out into the open. “Great job, Chikorita, now use vine whip!” Vines emerged from Chikoratia’s sides, and were thrown at Granbull, striking again and again.

“That’s enough,” Jacob heard a voice coming from behind him. He turned to see two Team Rocket grunts, the same he had seen running from Arby just a few days ago. “Noctowl, let’s go,” the rocket member said.

“You too, Granbull,” the other one commanded. Jacob thought about trying to prevent them from leaving, but he couldn’t. After all there were two of them. He watched them as the two grunts made their way towards Goldenrod City. When they were far enough away, he turned back around and continued walking. He had a confident smile on his face; no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t remove it.

The Umbreon got a few treats here and there at the restrurant, but not much.

There was a few points where he had to use agility to avoid the incoming silver ware aimed at him

Dakota rested her head on a hand. Ignoring the greetings and waves she got from people. It seemed like everyone knew her. Maybe cause of her attitude, or possibly on how strong her pokemon. But whatever the reason, the red-head trainer did not care. She closed her eyes, almost drifting to sleep before her food was placed in front of her. She smelt her grilled Basculin. She then smelt the strong scent of her coffee too. She nodded a thanks to whoever gave her the food and began to eat.

Beck groggily lifted up an eyelid as he woke to the smell of strong coffee and blinked his drowsiness away as he realized that his meal could come at any second. True to his thoughts, after a few moments of waiting, the flavorful smell of Oran berries wafted through his nose and the dish arrived in front of him.

After thanking the waiter, the trainer gently picked up his silverware and starting consuming the savory soup. Enjoying every spoonful as the wondrous mix of flavors spread within the confines of his mouth.

The Umbreon grumbled loudly from underneath table.

He sighed, boredly.

"This is just as fun as watching my mother scare HootHoot" he thought to himself.

Having finished his meal, Beck simply waited for the others and sat quietly until he heard some faint mutterings underneath the table. The man then pushed the chair back to see a bored looked Umbreon lying lazily beneath the table and smiled as he saw the boredom in the Pokemon's eyes.

The trainer then reached for his bag lying against the side of his chair and pulled out a chew toy. "Here, how's this to keep you company for awhile, little one." Beck gently offered the rubber bone to the quadrupedal Pokemon.

"I don't know if you'll like it or not, but I'm afraid it's all I have."

Zeypher rested on the side of the route, taking a break from training. He sighed as his PokeNav beeped a long note, followed by two short notes.

"About time they gave me an update." Zeypher grumbled as he whipped out the little device, checking the screen. His eyes narrowed as he read the information on the screen.

"So that's where they're based......" Zeypher looked off in the direction of Violet town, then sighed, turning the opposite direction.

"Cmon Xavier," Zeypher called out to the little bird, breaking its focus as it dropped a boulder, narrowly missing the Growlithe that had dared to challenge him, "We're going to Mahogany Town."

((OOC: Uhm...I'd hate to correct you...but Umbreon isn't a bipedal pokemon...Bipedal means standing/walking on two feet, like humans, or monkeys...lol ))

Platinum was delighted when he smelled the crapes, and saw them rest on the table. He thanked the server, handing them a tip, and hungrily beginning to cut the his meals and eat it.

The trainer finished the food much quicker than expected for a teen with such a smaller physique. He smiled.

"This place is amazing, thank you for showing us, Dakota." He commented, taking a sip from his tea. His hunger had ceased.

Platinum noticed the bored Umbreon, and Beck handing him a chew toy. The poor dark type had only eaten a few treats, surely it was still hungry for actual food. He looked up from under the table, looking around, wondering if the cafe had anything for Pokemon. The realization that it was a human cafe came to him, and he figured he would just buy a small package of Pokefood after they left from the Pokemart next door.

((OOC: Oh shoot, let me correct that! Thanks for the catch! lol))

Beck looked up as he watched his companions finish up their meal and called over the waiter for the bill.
Once the man had arrived, the trainer took the bill into his hands and scanned through the costs. After looking at the final cost, and with some quick mental calculations, Beck reached for the wallet inside his bag and payed for two-thirds of the total cost.

Platinum took a look at the bill as well, placing another requirement of the money on the table as well. He stood, stretching. He collected his gym sack and slung it over his shoulders, pushing in his chair.

"Hey, me and Umbreon are going to the Pokemart to get the little hungry guy something to eat really fast. I'll meet you at the end of town in about 10 minutes." He spoke to his two companions, nodding and starting to head for the exit.

He stopped a few feet ahead.

"Let's go buddy." Platinum said, patting the side of his leg for the Umbreon's attention, and continued walking out.

Jacob took a deep breath as he watched the gym leader release his first pokemon. Morty, the gym leader of Ecruteak City, was a ghost type trainer, Jacob knew. Still, he was unsure of what exactly to expect. In a flash of blue, Morty’s Ghastly appeared in the center of the stadium. Jacob thought for a moment before giving his orders.

“Chikorita, let’s go!” Chikorita ran out from Jacob’s side, prepared for battle. “Chikorita, use razor leaf!” Chikorita released a barrage of sharp leaves at Ghastly.

“Ghastly, dodge and use shadow ball!” Ghastly swung around, dodging Chikorita’s attack before firing a ball of dark energy at Chikorita. Ghastly’s attack hit, and Chikorita skidded backwards. Raising herself up, Jacob gave the next command.

“Chikorita, use poison powder!” Chikorita released a host of glowing purple spores which flew forwards, poisoning Ghastly. However, due to Ghastly’s part poison typing, the attack had little effect.

“Ghastly, use shadow ball again!” Again, Ghastly sent out his attack.

“Chikorita, dodge it!” Jacob shouted. But it was too late. The shadow ball slammed into Chikorita, knocking her back once again. This time, she struggled to get to her feet. “Alright Chikorita, try razor leaf again!”Chikorita nodded, and again released a wave of leaves. Ghastly dodged the attack once more before firing another shadow ball at Chikorita, hitting again and knocking the pokemon to the ground for the third time. “Chikorita!”Jacob shouted out. Chikorita remained on the ground struggling to move at all. Jacob thought for a moment, trying to come up for a new plan. Before he could, however, Chikorita began to glow. She grew to double her size before the glowing ceased. Now as Bayleaf, Jacob and his pokemon continued the fight. “Bayleaf, use Synthesis!” Bayleaf glowed white as her injuries healed.

“Ghastly, use shadow ball again!” Ghastly fired a ball of dark energy at Bayleaf.

“Bayleaf, use reflect!”Bayleaf nodded before a multicolored mirror-like shield appeared in front of her, protecting her from Ghastly’s attack. “Now, Bayleaf, use razor leaf!”Bayleaf released a barrage of razor leaves once again, and once again Ghastly moved to dodge it. This time, however, Ghastly was too slow, as it winced in pain due to its poisoning. Ghastly took he full damage of Bayleaf’s attack before falling to the ground, unconscious.

“Very well,” Morty replied. “You won’t do as well against my Gengar!”Morty shouted as he released his second pokeball. Gengar appeared in front of him, chuckling before turning towards Bayleaf.

“Bayleaf, take a rest,” Jacob called out, using a pokeball to recall his pokemon. “Are you read, Oshawott?” Jacob asked the pokemon who stood beside him. Oshawott nodded, and stepped forward. “Alright Oshawott, use aqua jet!” Oshawott was surrounded with water as he fired himself at Gengar.

“Gengar, use shadow punch!” Gengar’s hand became surrounded with dark energy as he swung at the approaching Oshawott. The attacks collided, kicking up dust. When the dust cleared, Oshawott and Gengar both stood facing each other.

“Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott fired a blast of water at Gengar from his hands.

“Gengar, dodge it and use lick.” Gengar easily flew to the side of Oshawott’s attack. Extending his tongue, he sent his attack at Oshawott from close range. The attack hit, and Oshawottbecame paralyzed, unable to move. “Now, Gengar, use hypnosis!” Gengar released purple waves, which, upon hitting Oshawott, lulled him into a deep sleep. The battle was over. Jacob reached for Bayleaf’s pokeball.

“I suppose it’s time to finish this,” Jacob said as he called out Bayleaf. The pokemon appeared, happily prepared for battle. “Alright, Bayleaf, use razor leaf!”

“Gengar, dodge and use hypnosis!”

“Bayleaf, use reflect…. And now, use poisonpoweder!”

“Gengar, dodge and use shadow punch!” Gengar successfully dodged Bayleaf’s attack before slamming his fist into Bayleaf. Bayleaf fell to the ground, struggling to stand.

“Bayleaf, use synthesis!” Bayleaf glowed white, healing.

“Gengar, use lick!” Gengar pressed his attack, extending his tongue.

“Now, Bayleaf, use razorleaf!” Bayleaf stopped healing herself and released an attack again while Gengar still had his tongue in the air. The attack hit, landing inside of Gengar’s open mouth, and sending the pokemon falling backwards to the ground, unconscious. Jacob had won his fourth badge.

Dakota pitched her amount in and nodded to Platinum. She saw Axel coming back over and she shot him a glare. Making him turn on his heels and leave. She huffed and rubbed Absol's head. "Do you miss home Absol?" She asked quietly. "Ab.." he replied quietly. Dakota sighed and looked out the window.

Zeypher scratched his head. He had arrived in Mahogany Town, having made excellent time by avoiding several groups of younger kids, who, from what he had overheard, were itching to battle. But now he had to find a building similar to the description sent to him on his PokeNav.

He sighed as he began to check the last two houses.

"Nothing......" Zeypher turned around to check the town again when he noticed a small shop off to the side of the town. Nothing specific was off about it, except for an enormous, out of place satellite dish just behind it.

No, Zeypher thought to himself, it wouldn't be that easy. As he wandered into the little shop, he caught sight of a man behind the counter, a red "R" barely concealed by his corduroy jacket. With a sigh, Zeypher walked up to the counter, waving to catch the man's attention.

"Hello. I'm looking to join up." Zeypher gave the man a friendly smile, pointing to the red "R" on his shirt.

The man burst out laughing.

"You? You couldn't handle it! Now fuck off."

Zeypher sighed. Time for a little acting. He flicked his arm back, snatching a throwing knife from his back pocket, then flicked his arm forwards, launching the knife, landing it an inch from the man's head with a solid thud.

"Couldn't handle it huh?" Zeypher steeled his face, showing no emotions, moving behind the counter. As he did this, he flicked out a butterfly knife, expertly flipping the knife open.

The man paled, flipping a switch under the counter. A hidden trapdoor slid open behind Zeypher.

"G-go ahead. First room on the left."

Zeypher gave him an innocent smile as he flicked the butterfly knife closed.

"Thanks!"

Jacob sighed as he walked down route 38. He had been traveling for a long time now, having left Ecutreak immediately after his gym battle that day. It had been three hours now, and Jacob and Osahwott sat down to take a break. Jacob was proud of the way his team was turning out; so far had Ledian, Slowking, Murkrow, and Bayleaf, not to mention Oshawott. And he had space for one more.

Just as he thought this, he heard something move in the nearby bushes. Jacob turned to see nothing; he thought a pokemon was there, but all he could see was trees. He analyzed his surrounding’s carefully, preparing for another possible team rocket attack when he saw it: a Sudowoodo, posing as a tree.

“Sudowoodo,” Jacob said as he saw the pokemon, who prompty stepped forward. “Alright, Oshawott, use aqua jet!” Oshawott shot forward, slamming into Sudowoodo and knocking the pokemon to the ground. Sudowoodo was hurt badly, as Oshawott’s attack was super effective, but the pokemon struggled to stand. Sudowoodo returned fire, glowing blue as rocks appeared above Jacob and Oshawott, raining down on them. Jacob himself had to focus on dodging the attack as Oshawott was hit by several rocks. Oshawot stood up with some difficulty. “Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott fired a beam of water at Sudowoodo. The attack hit, and the wild pokemon fell to the ground, unable to move. Jacob threw a pokeball and Sudowoodo disappeared in a flash of red. The pokemon was caught.

Jacob stood, breathing heavily. The battle between him and Jasmine, the Olivine City Gym Leader, had been very difficult. Bayleaf had been able to defeat her Magnemite rather easily. But her Steelix proved too great a challenge, and Bayleaf lie unconscious at his feet. Jacob was left thinking about his next move; he could choose one more pokemon.

“Take a rest, Bayleaf,” Jacob said, recalling his pokemon. “Come on out, Murkrow!” Jacob called as his bird pokemon appeared in front of him. “Alright Murkrow, fly into the air and use night shade!” Murkrow flew high in the sky and fired a beam of ghost energy at Steelix. The attack hit, and Steeliz recoiled for a moment before turning back to the battle.

“Alright Steelix, use iron tail!” Steelix’s tail glowed as he swung it at Murkrow.

“Murkrow, dodge it!” Murkrow flew higher in the sky, out of Steelix’s reach. “Great, now use night shade again!” Again, Murkrow fired its attack and again Steelix recoiled at the hit, this time falling to the ground, unconscious. “Great job Murkrow!” Jacob shouted as he ran onto the field. He had won his fifth badge.

“Sudowoodo, use slam!” Sudowoodo rushed forward, and slammed his arm into the Yanma, who fell to the ground, unconscious. “Great job Sudowoodo!” Jacob said as he embraced his pokemon.

“No! Yanma!” the opposing trainer shouted. He recalled his pokemon before walking away, with his head low. Jacob looked around. The dock of Olivine City was littered with pokemon and trainers, all waiting for the ferry to bring them across to Cianwood. As Jacob recalled Sudowoodo, preparing to leave, he was confronted by another trainer. It was an older man, who must have been over 60.

“Will you battle me next?” The old man asked.

“Sorry,” Jacob replied. “My pokemon need a rest.” Jacob dropped to the ground and sat with his feet in the water, waiting for the ferry.

The Umbren mewled happily as he strolled off after Platinum.

He ran back to Beck and handed him the Rubber Bone and gave him it with a happy smile, as he sprinted off back to Platinum.

Beck watched Platinum and Umbreon go with a smile and stood up to leave himself - picking up his pack as he did.

"It seems we'll be parting ways here Dakota," the tall trainer said smiling as he turned to the young woman. "Once again, let me thank you for letting me travel with you to this city. I wish both you and Platinum the best of luck on your journey." Beck then lowered his head in a polite farewell and turned to leave the restaurant.

Once he left the establishment, Beck breathed out a long sigh and turned to look at a rounded building a few blocks away from his position. The Violet City gym. He had finally arrived at destination. Turning his body to fully face the building, Beck walked towards the gym with a quick pace, each step growing more burdened then the last.

The news he bore for his friend was not very light. In fact, it was quite heavy.

Jacob smiled as his Bayleaf faced down Chuck’s Poliwrath. This was both Chuck and Jacob’s last pokemon, and soon the battle for Jacob’s sixth gym badge would be over; and Jacob had the type advantage.

“Bayleaf, use razor leaf!”

“Poliwrath, dodge it!” Poliwrath leapt from side to side as Bayleaf sent a barrage of razor sharp leaves flying towards him. Poliwrath successfully avoided Bayleaf’s attack, but used up a lot of energy in doing so. “Poliwrath, use mega punch!” Poliwrath rushed towards Bayleaf.

“Bayleaf, use poison powder!” Bayleaf released a storm of purple spores in front of him, and Poliwrath rushed into it. Poliwrath stopped midway through the cloud of spores, abandoning his attack and dropping to his knees because of the pain from being heavily poisoned. “Now, Bayleaf, us solar beam!” Bayleaf stood for a moment, collecting solar energy before releasing it in a single beam. The attack hit, and Poliwrath was knocked to the ground, unconscious. “Wonderful, Bayleaf!” Jacob shouted as he took a step towards his pokemon. He stopped, however, when Bayleaf began to glow. The leaves around her neck grew into a flower, and her neck grew twice as long as Bayleaf evolved into Meganium. With his sixth badge, and now Meganium, Jacob could not have been happier. He recalled his pokemon with glee before heading out, looking for a ride to Mahogany Town, or at least back to Olivine City.

The Umbreon yapped happily as he strutted beside Platinum boldly, catching the attention of many other pokemon in the resteruant.

He watched as platinum stopped.

"Um, Umbre, Um, Umbreon?" he barked curiosly

Zeypher sighed as he itched at his back. What did they use to make these uniforms!? He itched furiously while he took another look at the briefcase he had, which contained slowpoke tails of all things. He knew he had to work his way up, become a trusted member, but this was ridiculous!

Zeypher finally gave up with the uniform, resigning himself to his fate. He sat back and did his job, stopping everyone who came into Mahogany Town, asking them to buy a slowpoke tail. Every now and then he would steal some poor kids Pokemon, as he had a quota to fulfill.

"Worst. Job. Ever." Zeypher settled in for the long haul.
