Wes looked at Rene with both sadness and pride in his eyes. Not long ago had he confronted the king in a very similar manner. Now it was his turn to give the advice. Gently, he put his hand on her shoulder, inadvertently gaining some charge from her. He looked her straight in the eyes and began to speak.
“Of course you can help.” He smiled. “But don’t fight because you owe it to your guild or because you owe it to Sol. Hell, don’t even do it cause you owe it to Azumi or to yourself.” His tone turned slightly more serious but remained kind. “Do you think Sol gave his life because he thought he owed it to someone? No. He gave his life because he decided he cared more about you and I and the rest of the Stormbreakers living happily than he cared about living himself. There’s nothing wrong with living to serve others, in fact, it’s very noble. But it has to be what you want, not what you perceive as some debt. Don’t fight because you think you owe it to Sol or to anyone else, they all happily gave their lives because they care about you. Instead, be like them, and fight for what you have right now. Fight for your new guild. Fight to protect your new friends. Because everyone you know who died that way died without regrets.”
Wes took his hand off of Rene’s shoulder and looked forlornly off into the distance, his eyes fixing on Azumi. “Don’t live your life trying to settle debts and get revenge. It’ll only lead to sadness and discontent.” He stated, looking back to Rene. “In fact, my biggest regret is that it’s taken me this long to realize that.” Wes quickly reverted back to his normal disposition, pausing for a moment before he continued speaking in a much less formal manner. “I’m going to go face Vlad. It’s your decision if you would like to come with me or if you want to help support the others, but the important thing is it’s your choice.”
Lightning crackled around him and he bolted quickly towards where he knew Azumi was.
