Claire
July 15 – Lacunosa Stadium, Lacunosa Town, Unova

Their momentum was staggered by the unexpected flinch and their opponent was on a roll; Claire was no spring grass and she was well aware of the seemingly imperceptible effects of momentum and pacing on a battle. Rosephase was currently defending itself with its wings as it weathered the string of quick attacks. They needed to shut down this Scyther, now.

“Rosephase, U-Turn!”

With a flip-strike, the Gliscor lashed out, hoping to catch the real Scyther but knowing it was unlikely; then she returned to her pokéball, and in her place...

“Chysa, lock it down with Electro Web!”

Chysa, now a powerful Ampharos, took the field. Her tail-gem sparked with power, electric currents running down her striped hide until she leaped into the air and threw down a wide electric net.

Esther
Friday, July 15 – Lacunosa Town, Unova Region

Esther’s gaze narrowed in displease. A fairy type wasn’t good news, it held the type advantage against 2/3rd of her team and the remaining third were far less trained than her core trio. Luckily, she’d led with Kasriel, he was her only pivot. She thanked her lucky stars and then punched the air, “Kasriel, Parting Shot!”

In vulgar fashion, the Zigzagoon lambasted its foe with a string of verbal abuse, its voice thumbing with an ominous power; then it turned around, presented its back-site, lifted its tail, and—“KASRIEL!!”—...lowered its tail.

The Zigzagoon lacked the grace to even look ashamed and was quickly drawn into its Pokéball by its exasperated trainer. She offered an apologetic power to her opponent as her second Pokémon took the field.

Silent as the dark, the dark Pokémon Houndour faced off against Mr. Mime. Apart from being one of the few Pokémon Esther had that didn’t take super effective damage from Fairy-type moves, Houndour also resisted Mr. Mime’s psychic types moves and as an added bonus, was the only Pokémon she had that had a move super-effective against fairy types.

“Alae, Alae, Halay! Smog!”

Halay revealed her fangs, her jaws flying open to spew a toxic fog straight at Mr. Mime.

Eleonor
July 15 – Lacunoa Town, Unova Region

A tournament...how did she ever find herself here? Eleonor adjusted her glasses, shuffling onto the field in quiet consternation. Despite being contained within a pocket dimension at her waist, she could feel Cordelia's passion for the upcoming battle, as the feisty Mawile urged her trainer forward with persistent nudges of her Pokéball.

A breathy sigh escaped Eleonor’s lips. For what it was worth at least Cordelia would enjoy the tournament. She looked towards her opponents, a smartly dressed young man who had a familiar style.. likely from Kalos or Galar. She tested the waters, “Bonjour, ça va?”

Though polite, Eleonor had never been one to idle and she swiftly followed up by tossing out her first pokemon, Litvias. The Hippopotas took to the field with a lazy yawn, and then it snorted; a surprisingly powerful puff that blew sand out its snout and the tiny hump on its back. The sandstorm was building, courtesy of Litvias’ Sand Stream.

"Not gonna slow us down that easy!" Reina called out, "Double Hit X-Scissor!"

Viridis, all of them, moved to the center of the field, combining into one, once again. The Scyther's scythes began to glow with the power of Double Hit, each one glowing white for a second, before turning into a bright green. Viris jumped forward and with two quick swipes, sent out two X-Scissors towards the incoming net. The first attack collided against the electrical attack but the second one broke through it, leaving a big X shape in the center of it, which Viridis easily passed through. She then landed softly back on the field, her wings buzzing allowing her to slowly descend to the ground.

"I learned that from watching WCS matches!" Reina called out.

July 15 – Lacunosa Stadium, Lacunosa Town, Unova

Claire snorted dismissively declining to respond as an idea came to mind. She studied Reina’s Scyther for a moment, thoughtfully considering the girl’s tactics so far.

“Chysa, Electro Web then smash it with Power Gem!”

Lighting up once more, Ampharos gathered energy in its tail-gem, and threw out an electric web; moments later, its matching head-gem glowed iridescently, and she fired a multi-colored beam into the electro web. The luster of the power gem exploded when it collided with Electro web, creating a blindingly, bright flash of light. It was momentary, but the cover allowed Chysa to act—“Lose its focus Chysa!”

Scyther seemed rather nervous when it couldn’t focus on its foe, and Claire had every intent to prey upon that weakness to achieve something more.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Scott Chitape, current rank: ????

His hopes were foiled as his opponent called a Parting Shot. She hadn't wasted her free switch after all, meaning she could still pull it out whenever she needed to. However, she'd still locked in her second Pokemon for the round, another Dark type. If he played his match properly, the victory could definitely be his. The Houndour that was facing down Alfred seemed quite a bit stronger, though, so he'd to be cautious in taking it on. Knowing that the Mr. Mime was very limited offensively in facing the dark types, he'd need to rely on Alfred as a support.

Alfred, still in butler mode, was far more offended by the roguish Zigzagoon's taunting than his more pirately act would have been. His will to go on the offense had been dampened, which would unfortunately carry over with this next move. First, though, he had to deal with the Houndoom's Smog attack. The acrid smoke rolled towards Alfred, delayed slightly by the Barrier and giving the Mr. Mime time to raise a hand to his mouth. The super-effective attack still began to take effect, but due to Alfred's ability, Filter, the effects were rather negligible.

He uncovered his mouth, miming a cough briefly before glaring at the opposing Houndoom. "Alright Alfred, we got a plan. Nasty Plot!" Scott called out to his Pokemon, and in an instant the mime's face became intensely shadowed. An ominous aura began to glow around him, and his fingers gripped into fists. Now Scott had a choice to make. He knew Cap'n Crunch was the member of his team most suited to dealing with Houndoom, but it was possible that he wouldn't be able to defeat both of the opponents. Zuko was possibly more reliable against both opponents, but he'd risk being too slow to take down the Houndoom and fare poorly against Zigzagoon. Either was a potential win condition, so both had their risks.

"Now, Baton Pass!"

Alfred raised a fist to the sky, as if he had a sword in his hand, and was withdrawn into the Pokeball. Out in his place came Cap'n Crunch, the Crawdaunt. Due to Baton Pass' effect, he was cloaked in the same aura that had surrounded Alfred, and the same Barrier shimmered in the air in front of him. His claws clacked menacingly and he looked ready to brawl. "Alright Cap'n, get ready to scupper 'em!"

Nasty Plot into Baton Pass? Esther’s expression darkened. This was a move that she most certainly should’ve called earlier, but it wasn’t too late to restrict her opponent. “Halay, Taunt!”

Houndour quickly threw a contemptuous gaze towards Crawdaunt, dark power effusing to shut down any further moves that could empower it.

If she remembered correctly then nasty plot increased special attack, and if he’d swapped into Crawdaunt it then followed that he’d use a ranged strategy. That wasn’t something she was afraid of, as she could also boost her own special attack and work towards overpowering Crawdaunt in ranged warfare.

“Nasty plot!”

As Houndour gathered energy to increase its next attack, Esther carefully eyed her opponents. Wondering if she could sneak in another nasty plot before an offensive began.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Scott Chitape, current rank: ????

Scott watched as his opponent took the switching move as an opportunity to boost up for themselves. He felt relatively safe still, since Cap'n could handle Dark and Fire moves relatively well, but the odd TM move could prove problematic. Either way the matchup had become more dangerous. He needed to end the firefight before it could begin. "Cap'n Crunch, close in with Aqua Jet and go for a point-blank Bubblebeam!"

With a growl, the Crawdaunt jetted across the field cloaked in a veil of water, ending up near the Houndour on its left. Then, with another growl, both the Crawdaunt's pincers opened wide, and a blast of foam and bubbles spewed towards his opponent. Upon impact, whether with the opponent or the ground where it had been standing, the bubbles expanded and then burst with a loud popping sound.

A rush! Esther’s heart throbbed into her throat, and she faltered in momentary indecision. The result was that Halay took the Bubblebeam head-on, a devastating blow, but one that snapped Esther from her reverie. She couldn’t spot Houndour through the debris created by the exploding bubbles, but Halay was the strongest member of her team and the Houndour wouldn’t go down easy. “Sucker Punch into Thunder Fang!”

Replicating her opponent’s tactic, Esther called for a rush of her own; with a sudden burst of speed, Houndour rushed from the debris and ran circles around the Crawdaunt, Sucker Punch would allow it to take advantage of its opponent's next attack to slip a Thunder Fang past its guard!

As Reina called out for a Sucker Punch, Scott commanded Cap'n Crunch to use Aqua Jet. The good Cap'n was too slow, though, and a blow impacted his hard shell. The strike was weakened, though as the Barrier set up by Alfred shielded a good chunk of the physical attack's damage. The Thunder Fang which followed was similarly weakened, but the Super-effective attack still stung. However, the strike had brought the Houndour in close, which was perfect for the brawling lobster. "Aqua Jet into another Bubble Beam!"

The crab claw swung upwards cloaked in water, aiming to uppercut the hound pokemon into the air. Then the other claw blasted another stream of bubbles towards the opponent, hoping for the knock-out.

Friday, July 15 – Lacunosa Town, Unova Region

Esther’s eyes sparkled as they spotted opportunity. This was their chance, “Halay...COUNTER!” She punched the air, mirroring the Crawdaunt’s devastating uppercut; it made a clean connection, but rather than blow Houndour away as Scott might’ve hoped, the claw seemed to stall as Houndour began to glow with the power of rebound.

Seeking to move before the bubble beam could land, Houndour lashed out at Crawdaunt, intended to return its punishment with double the power!

"Viri!"

Reina clenched her fists as Viri lost sight of her opponent, the crowd slowly becoming visible to her once again and she began to cower, looking nervous as she desperately looked around.

"Focus on my voice! Just you on me!" Reina called out.

The Scyther looked over her shoulder and began hoovering towards Reina. "No, stay in the battle! You can't go back yet." Reina raised her hands, which made Viri stop in her tracks. She had a pleading look on her face, basically begging Reina to go back into her Pokeball.

"I'm switching!" Reina called out. She gave her Scyther a smile as she returned her into the Park Ball. "It's okay, take some time to calm down." She looked up and placed her hand on her Pokeball. "Blue Demon is gonna hate me for this, let's go, Peque!"

Reina threw the Pokeball into the air and out came out a Marshtomp. The water ground Pokemon landed with a heavy thud, looking a bit bulky, like if he had over eaten. He set his calm stare on the Ampharos, pointed his right paw towards it and signaled to come at him.

"Mud Shot!"

Claire
July 15 – Lacunosa Stadium, Lacunosa Town, Unova

Claire was rather stunned at Reina’s switch, that wasn’t at all what she’d been expecting! Despite the unexpected switch, she wasn’t out of moves yet. “Chysa, Dragon Pulse!”

The Ampharos puffed up, meeting Marshtomp’s mud shots with a powerful dragon pulse. The attacks met in the middle and canceled out, but Claire wasn’t done yet.

“Once more Chysa, Electro Web into Power Gem!”

Following suit, the Ampharos repeated its blinding combo by firing an electro web and then following up with a scintillating power gem!

As if a higher power was attempting to assure any fears that Wilford may have possessed about being overdressed, his opponent was equally, if not better dressed than he was. The darkness of her heels and stockings contrasted with the brightness of her flared skirt; the opulence of the waist section and below provided another contrast with the simplicity of her blouse and glasses. All in all, Wilford was somewhat pleased that someone else had as refined tastes in presentation as himself. Unfortunately, that pleasure was undercut when she began conversation with a foreign language. At the very least, conversation didn't prevent her from

"I don't speak Kalosian," Wilford replied as he examined the Pokémon the opposing trainer sent out. The Hippopotas was a good sign for the rich young man, reassuring him that he could trust his instincts when in regard to his leading Pokémon. Opening his briefcase, he grabbed the top middle Pokéball before pointing it outward and pressing the button on the center. The ball opened, releasing his desired Pokémon: Thwackey. To counter the Sandstorm that the ground type had summoned, the Beat Pokémon drummed the ground with his two sticks, causing the battlefield to glow a faint light green.

"Fake Out." With a simple nod, Thwackey banged his sticks together, sending a shockwave towards the Hippopotas that would cause it to flinch on contact.

“Ah, Putain...”

It was unfortunate but expected. It wasn’t often that Kalosians were found wandering about. Eleonor sighed but maintained a steady calm as the shockwave washed over Litvias. The Hippopotas was too slow to evade, and so she didn’t bother ordering it to try. Instead, she allowed the growing sandstorm to ravage her opponent while she mulled over her strategy.

Wilford raised an eyebrow at the response but lowered it soon after. Whatever it was, it wasn't important enough to spent exhaustive thought. The sandstorm had slightly injured the grass type, but his wounds were immediately healed by the terrain he summoned. Noticing that his opponent was lost in thought, Wilford spotted an opportunity to take control of the tempo.

'Grassy Glide." With another nod, the Thwackey put his sticks in his hair before adopting a standing sprint start. The Beat Pokémon began to glow green as he rocketed shoulder-first towards his target. The Grassy Terrain had helped the Thwackey, not only boosting the move's power, but speeding up its travel time as well. As the Grass type glided on the battlefield, Wilford began pondering his plan on the next turn.

Eleonor
July 15 – Lacunoa Town, Unova Region

Eleonor was calm and impassive; oddly enough, her opponents was equally so, and their styles of relaxed command had lent the battle and air of lazy, unrushed, confidence.

That all changed as Thwackey rushed in to deliver a grassy tackle, Hippopotas braced and Eleonor called an order, “Yawn.”

The moment after it had endured the strike, it would release its drowsy-ing payload right into its opponent’s face. Needless to say, Eleonor didn’t intent to stick around and wait out another attack, so she also ordered a follow up.

“Cloak yourself, sandstorm!”

It wouldn’t do much more than intensify the raging sandstorm, but that’s exactly what she wanted to do. In moments, the battlefield was cloaked in sandstorm too thick for the Pokémon to see each other, much less the trainers who couldn’t even see their Pokémon. Although this might’ve been a problem for some, it was no issue for Litvias, who took the opportunity to vanish into the sandstorm.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Scott Chitape, current rank: ????

Scott's eyes widened as his opponent called out a Counter. He'd expected the battle to end as soon as the hit landed, and if it didn't to swiftly ensure it did with the follow-up Bubblebeam. On the field, the Aqua-jet empowered strike slowed to a halt as Houndour ended up being within the Barrier that had formerly served as protection for Cap'n Crunch, and the slowed momentum allowed a full Counter to take effect, blasting double the force of the blow right back at Crawdaunt without any mystical field to reduce the damage. The good Cap'n's eyes widened slightly, but despite the lack of command from his trainer, he quickly pulled his claws back into a guard stance; the Taunt from before had worn off, and the pale white glow of Protect shielded most of his body from the blast, although he'd certainly sustained some damage to his claw before he was able to use the move. Using his free claw, he fired one last Bubble Beam, and then took a few steps back. The Barrier had been shattered, but Cap'n Crunch still had a bit of fight left in him. From the sidelines, Scott cheered for his Pokemon, imagining that somewhere in another timeline this battle hadn't gone so well for his team and thanking his stars that this world was going well.

The exchange happened swiftly and as the dust settled, Houndour lay unconscious. Esther’s prior excitement vanished as she mentally reviewed the exchange. Taunt had worn off and Crawdaunt had defended itself with protect at the last moment; it was a small misstep, but one they had paid a bitter price for.

To have her most capable Pokémon defeated so easily smarted; and as Esther returned Halay to her Pokéball, she couldn’t help the nagging guilt...she should've been on top of things.

Esther flexed her grip as she swapped Halay’s Pokéball for Kasriel’s. That Crawdaunt hit hard, they’d need to fix that. With a quick toss she gave her command, “Kasriel, Parting Shot!”

The Galarian Zigzagoon took to the field, and once more launched into a verbal assault with vitriolic glee.

Joyce Blake

Joyce began making her way to her assigned arena once the tournament brackets were announced, Esther's parting words still lingering in her mind. "So Esther's also had her share of problems with her own pokemon. I don't know her very well but she seemed like a nice person, if she can get past her hardships then why can't I! I will grow stronger, so strong that Wyrm won't have any choice but to listen to me." She said out loud, pushing down all of her negative feelings and hyping herself up for her upcoming battle.

As she approached the stage, the young trainer began thinking about which pokemon she should use for her first match. "Hmm, I definitely can't use Wyrm and Thorn received quite a bit of damage protecting me earlier. I guess it'll have to be those two." She thought to herself. Putting one hand on one of the pokeballs attached to her waist, Joyce clicked a button on it, enlarging it to cover her whole palm.

Once she made it out on to the stage of her first match, Joyce held her pokeball up in front of her and looked towards her opponent. The roar of the crowd blaring all around her. "Hello there, my name is Joyce and I'll be your opponent."

Kenzie Kirk - July 15th - Lacunosa town, Unova

Kenzie held two pokeballs in her hand, still small as she decided on which one to open her battle with, until she noticed her opponent step onto the field. The crowd roared around them, the ecstatic energy it exuded.. It was intoxicating. The grin only widened on Kenzie, clearly showing the gap between her front teeth as she looked at her opponent.

"Alright! I'm Kenzie and I'll promise you that I'll give you one heck of a battle. Let's do this!" the girl exclaimed and threw out her pokeball, now making up her mind on what pokemon to send out first. The pokeball popped open and from the white energy emerged Seadra onto the dirt covered battlefield. Seemed like the dragon pokemon was just as ready to battle as her trainer with her brow furrowing with determination.

As she heard the roaring cheers of the arena rage on, Joyce couldn't help but feel her own excitement build. Clutching her pokeball in her hand, Joyce witnessed her opponent introduce herself, brimming with energy. "With such a big crowd watching us, we better not disappoint them! Let's make this a great battle!" She yelled as she extended her arm back, ready to send out her pokemon.

"Sapling, come on out!" She shouted, throwing her pokeball out onto the stage. A bright flash escaped the ball as the Turtwig landed on the field, eyes focused and mouth wide, ready for battle. "Let's start this off! Use Razor Leaf!" Following her trainer's command, Sapling leaped into the air and spun his head around, sending a barrage of razor sharp leaves at his opponent.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Scott Chitape, current rank: ????

Cap'n Crunch had hardly gotten back into a proper stance before a proper tongue lashing began on the part of the opposing Zigzagoon. He knew how to take an insult far better than Alfred, of course, but he was still reeling from the hit he had taken a moment before. He felt a bit demoralized by the time he began back-talking and leering at the smaller Pokemon, using Taunt. His aura had faded now, and his attacks were definitely starting to get weaker. For Scott, it was a tough call: should he use his switch to give Cap'n Crunch time to rest, or would it be better to rely on Alfred to see the battle through once Cap'n was out of the fight? He needed to decide quickly, in any case.

"Alright, Cap'n, come back and rest. You did good, bud! Rest up, I'll need you again soon." The beam shot out from the Pokeball, recalling the Crawdaunt for the time being, and Scott quickly lobbed Alfred back onto the field. The Mr Mime turned towards Scott and gave a thumbs up and a wink, before leaning back on thin air and sticking his hands into imaginary jacket pockets.

"Alfred, get things rolling with another Barrier, and then set up a Substitute!"

The mime seemed to roll his eyes as he was forced to leave his more relaxed pose, and moments later there was yet another shimmering wall of air on the field. A few seconds later, the air around Alfred seemed to warp, and suddenly there were two mimes standing on the field. One turned to the other as if asking for something, and the other held up a hand closed around something. The latter moved his thumb, and there was a clicking sound as the first mime held an invisible cigar to the invisible lighter. The second mime tucked away the lighter after a moment, then raised a finger to his eyes as if pulling down a pair of sunglasses to peer over the top at the opposing Zigzagoon.

Kenzie Kirk - July 15th - Lacunosa town, Unova

Kenzie's grin quickly changed to bare her teeth as she tried her best to think for a way out of this. Of course her opponent had the type advantage, but she had a first stage starter pokemon. So, this wouldn't be as clear cut right? Besides she trusted that her Seadra would fair well and the water type trusted her as well to make the right calls.

"Argh- Alright, Seadra! Agility!" The blonde haired girl called out and her pokemon responded quickly. The water type sped greatly up and thanks to that managed to evade the sharpened leaves.

"Now Scald!" Kenzie exclaimed pointing at the tortoise-like pokemon. It wouldn't be be that effective, but if they managed to burn the grass type that would give quite a boost to their chances of winning.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Reina, current rank, ?????.

"Peque, Earthquake!"

The Marshtomp closed his eyes as the flash appeared above them. But, he didn't need his sight to be able to use his attack. He jumped, something unexpected by the chubby Pokemon, and landed with a ground shaking thud, sending a powerful shockwave across the field towards the Ampharos.

"Get that Water Pulse ready!"

Peque then held up his arms, a big water sphere starting to form as he took aim at his opponent, ready to launch the attack as soon as he got a clear shot. His vision might be blurry, but that bright yellow was not so hard to see.

Joyce's eyes followed the opposing pokemon dodge out of the way of her attack. "Well, I didn't think it was going to be easy." She muttered. Soon after dodging the leaf barrage, Joyce watched as the Seadra prepared to fire a stream of scalding water at Sapling. "Counter that with Seed Bomb!" Wasting no time, Joyce made her move known. Opening his mouth, a barrage of glowing green seeds were shot out of the Turtwig's mouth, aiming to collide with the incoming Scald.

"Let's keep the momentum Sapling! Use Growth!" As the Seed Bomb and Scald would collide, a green energy would cover Sapling's body. The green aura would appear to grow in size, boosting the Tiny Leaf pokemon's offensive stats.

July 15 – Lacunosa Stadium, Lacunosa Town, Unova

The earth rocked, dealing heavy damage to Ampharos, but before Water Pulse could be fired, Claire made her decision.

“Tch, I’m using my switch!”

Though it wasn’t exactly as Claire wanted, a switch to Marshtomp with its powerful ground type moves was simply a bad match up for Chysa. Though unwilling as she might’ve been, it was best to keep her healthy to deal with Scyther once it returned.

“Alright Rosephase, screech!”

As it took to the field once more, the Scorpion Tail Pokémon let out a shrieking cry to soften its opponent up.

Esther
Friday, July 15 – Lacunosa Town, Unova Region

A switch back to Mr. Mime had not been what Esther was expecting, much less her opponent’s use of a move that created an identical replica of Mr. Mime. Then there was the matter of another barrier...what a troublesome opponent. Still, Esther wouldn’t be stymied by the likes of this, since she couldn’t tell which Mr. Mime was real, she’d just hit them both!

“Kasriel, give ‘em a taste of your snarls!”

The Galarian Zigzagoon was all too happy to comply, it’s voice thrumming with a sinister power as it began to launch a series of snarl attacks towards the Mr. Mime.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Reina, current rank, ?????.

Reina was not expecting for her opponent to let her shoot the Water Pulse, but she did. While she switched Pokemon, the attack was ready and when Gliscor began using Screech, the attack was shot directly at it. That didn't mean it stopped the Screech attack, being sound based, it still reached Peque. The water Pokemon groan as he took a step back, feeling the effects of Screech.

"I'll take that trade off any day, Supersonic!"

Peque's cheeks began to glow as he started to emit radio like waves across the field towards Rosephase. He then took a step forward and it seemed he was about to fall over, but used his two front arms to hold himself up, standing on all fours and waiting for the next attack.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Scott Chitape, current rank: ????

The mime duo spotted the incoming attack at the same time, and one of the two moved in front of the other as if preparing to take the attack. Scott recalled that Snarl was a sound based move, though, and would phase right through Alfred's substitute. He'd prefer to not take damage too early on, and the next part of his plan didn't appreciate being hit by Snarl. "Alfred, Protect, then close in so we can clean this battle up!" Another white barrier appeared in front of the two mimes, shielding them both from the damage of Snarl. As it faded and the attack ended, the mimes each split off to one side, then began running towards Kasriel as if on the attack.

Scott knew that they wouldn't be able to do much damage directly at this point, aside from forcing the Zigzagoon to disorient itself by running into invisible walls or slamming around inside an invisible box, but if he could put pressure on with a bluff and cause his opponent to slip up, the battle could still swing back in his favor.

With a tilt of its wing, Gliscor evaded the Water Pulse. The exchange between Screech and Supersonic was as ear-rapey as one might expect, and although it caused Claire to wince in discomfort, she also knew confusion only had a third chance to take effect.

“Rose, Ice Fang!”

Unfortunately, that one-third chance had taken effect, and rather than nail her opponent with an ice fang, Rosephase flew confused circles in the sky. Claire was stunned, her gaze snapping over to Reina on the other side of the battlefield. Luckiest bitch she’d ever met.

While the Mime duo closed in, they would be faced to deal with the subsequent Snarl as Esther had called for a series of attacks. They had blocked the first one, but what about the second? The third?

Kasriel continued to release resounding sound waves, its eyes watchful of the approaching duo.

The darkened sound waves impacted the two mimes as they closed in; one wave, two waves, and almost a third, but by the time the last began to ripple out, they'd made their way up to the small raccoon. Scott sighed, knowing he'd have to employ a somewhat scummy strategy now. "Alfred, initiate Lockdown Protocol." The mime recognized the codename for the strategy, and both versions began applying Barrier after Barrier around the Zigzagoon to entrap it. Once they'd at least impeded its ability to move with the barriers, another wave of sound had impacted both of them, causing the Substitute to take enough damage and disappear. Alfred grimaced as he felt the damage from the consecutive attacks begin to take its toll, but he had a duty to fulfill. Then, taking on a more neutral facial expression, Alfred began calmly waving his hands in spiraling motions, and waves of energy began to flow out. The hope was to force the rodent to sleep with Hypnosis and stall for just a little bit of time.

Kenzie Kirk - July 15th - Lacunosa town, Unova

Kenzie gritted her teeth when the Turtwig managed cancel out her Seadra's attack and then seemed to use some stat boosting move, or that's what it looked like at least. Well, she'll try and take the opportunity then with the grass type standing still.

"Seadra! Circle around and fire off a Dragon Breath then!" and the dragon pokemon using it's heightened speed easily followed the given instructions and fired off a beam of purple energy with the beam being more blueish at the base. Right now she wanted to try and get in as much damage as possible, if things started to look dire with Seadra, she did have a pokemon she thought could take on the opposing Turtwig.

Peque didn't take his time charging this time, he shot a quick Water Pulse from his mouth, shooting off like a bullet towards his opponent airborne.

"Follow up with Rock Slide!"

Peque summoned rocks around him and hurled them towards the Gliscor. The Marshtomp let out a loud roar, he seemed more focused and raging to go.

"Damn, they're really fast." As Sapling finished boosting himself, Joyce witnessed the opposing pokemon getting in position for a follow up attack with great speed. "Sapling! Tank it!" Knowing there wouldn't be enough time to dodge or use a move of their own to counter, Joyce instead decided to take the hit and then go from there.

Bracing himself for impact, Sapling lowered him posture. Soon after that, the beam of purple and blue energy hit their target. Sapling let out a groan as his tiny body was pushed back slightly. "While they're attacking! Hit them with a Razor Leaf!" With a quick flick of his head, the Turtwig swiftly sent a few sharp leaves flying towards the opposing Seadra.

The vicious snarls died as the hypnosis lulled Kasriel to sleep; it appeared to be a deep slumber, one that had Esther furrowing her brow. Her opponent’s strategy now seemed rather apparent, and she lay a hand on Kasriel’s Pokéball. She didn’t choose to act immediately but instead waited to see what her opponent would do next.

“Rosephase, close in with Acrobatics!”

As luck would have it finally things were not in Reina’s favor, and despite its muddled mind, Gliscor was able to register and act upon its trainer’s orders. Rosephase snapped her wings shut; her body plummeted as the water pulse passed harmlessly overhead; the Rock Slide was next, but Rosephase was an adept flier, and acrobatics allowed her to wing a few tricks. With a sudden jerk her wings snapped open, catching the rush of air that had been created by her free-fall, she rose sharply and used that abrupt change to evade the first of the rocks.

“Use the Sun!”

Her trainer’s call guided her heavenward still, positioning herself with the sun at her back; the glaring sunlight would make it harder for Peque to aim at her. Acrobatics was still in effect as Rosephase tucked her wings inward, spiraling downward to further complicate Peque’s aim!

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Reina, current rank, ?????.

"Peque, Muddy Water!"

Reina wasn't going to let the Gliscor just attack her Marshtomp. If Rosephase was going to hit Peque, then she would need to go through the Muddy Water first. Peque dug his front paws into the ground, causing a small vibration. Then, in front of him of wall of water filled with mud emerged from underneath the dirt, acting as a thick wall in front of him before crashing like a wave moving forward.

Kenzie Kirk - July 15th - Lacunosa town, Unova

Right after Seadra finished blasting the turtle, she was met by the Razor leaves flying right at her. Not quite having enough time to dodge it she was hit, taking super effective damage. This wasn't good. Kenzie was unsure if she should use up her free switch right now or to save it for later. If she needed a switch later on, she couldn't send in an already fainted pokemon

"Seadra! Keep moving and hit them with Scald in short bursts!" Kenzie then said after biting her lip. She decided to commit. The Dragon pokemon sped up again, circling around the turtwig and releasing it's attack in small, but quick successions. It wouldn't get much damage in probably, but hopefully this wouldn't be as easily countered. This first match up wasn't looking good for them, but it was still too early to definitively know the result, right?

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Scott Chitape, current rank: ????

As Kasriel was sent to sleep by Alfred's Hypnosis, the mime glanced back towards Scott, awaiting further orders. The trainer in question nodded, and pulled out his Pokeball. "Baton Pass, Alfred. It's time to wrap this up." Energy gleamed as before, and Cap'n Crunch hit the field once again. The clone of Alfred began to warp in appearance as Baton Pass took effect, changing its appearance to match that of the Crawdaunt. "Let's get back to it, Cap'n. Let's get fired up with Dragon Dance! Charge up until it starts waking up, then get ready for a Razor Shell!" The crustacean began to swerve and sway, glowing with a menacing aura as its movements became faster and its claws gained a glimmer of scale-like energy along the rims of its claws. As his trainer ordered, he continued to charge until his opponent showed signs of waking up, then tucked his claws in and let them begin to charge with a blue glow.

As sapling regained his footing, their opponents moved onto their next assault. Joyce watched as the Seadra began running circles around Sapling, shooting small bursts of Scalds as different intervals. Sapling couldn't do anything but take the barrage, grunting and being pushed slightly with each hit that landed. While the attacks didn't do much damage due to the Turtwig's resistance, the damage would eventually pile up and become too much to handle.

Joyce frowned, this situation was unfavorable and she needed to think of a way to get out of it. "Sapling! Keep your eyes straight! Keep holding for a bit!" Following his trainer's command, Sapling's eyes narrowed. The Tiny Leaf pokemon stood there, eyes straight ahead while being pelted by scalding water until. "Seed Bomb! Now!" As soon as the Seadra would circle back into the Turtwig's field of vision, the young woman behind the scene yelled out a command for an attack. A set of glowing seeds formed in the Turtwig's mouth before being thrown at the approaching Water Type.

“Ha! It won’t be that easy,” Claire scoffed at the attempt to repel her with muddy water, she didn’t need to completely close in. “Freeze it solid, repeated Ice fang!”

As lady luck would have it, Rosephase was once more able to push the fog of confusion. The Scorpion Tail Pokemon’s fangs grew cold, its breath crystalizing as a result. As she closed in, Rose brandished her fang, blue bolts shooting from her mouth to the rising muddy water. Of course, Claire's aim was not just to freeze the muddy water. The sudden formation of ice would cause the water to blow back on Marshtomp, drenching it; and from there, they had a chance to freeze it as well!

Esther sighed. There would be no need for Scott or his Pokémon to remain on edge because as soon as Baton bass had been called—“I forfeit!”

The Oblivian trainer was loud and decisive. She saw no reason to subject her Pokémon to the torture of her opponent’s Crawdaunt, especially while asleep.

Kasriel was quickly snatched up by the red lightning of its Pokéball and as the announcer declared Scott the winner, Esther sighed once more and trudged off the battlefield.

July 15th - Lacunosa, Unova. Reina, current rank, ?????.

Peque was not expecting the incoming attack, neither was Reina and they both failed to react to the Ice Fang connecting with the Marshtomp. The water Pokemon closed his eyes as the ice began to cover his body.

"Peque fight out of it!"

For a second or two there was no reaction. Then, the ice began to shake and before you knew it, Peque began to glow. He began to grow in size, breaking the ice off his body. The body kept growing, reaching 5'5 feet and taking a more slim form compared to the chunky Marshtomp. Now stood a fierce Swampert, letting out a loud roar, causing the ground to vibrate.

Reina didn't seem surprised, but instead proud and confident. "It's about time, I knew it was weird for you to be gaining so much waiting even though we were training so much, let's go Water Pulse!"

The Swampert didn't take time to charge this time, he set his eyes on the Gliscor and shot a Water Pulse directly at it.

Success! A smirk turned Claire’s lips upward, as the muddy water became a ‘Choco-Marshtompsicle’. But her glee didn’t last long; the sound of glacial fractures was, slow, cold, and heavy against her ears.

Claire frowned. A moment later, the ice shattered, and the glowing figure of a Marshtomp was revealed as it transformed: arms lengthened and thickened, its head-fin and cheek protrusions split into two, and the formerly bi-ped pokémon settled into a quadrupedal stance.

Claire didn’t even react as the newly evolved Swampert flexed its muscles, the new water pulse forming much faster than Rosephase could prepare for and ultimately knocking the fly-scorpion pokémon out of the battlefield and out of the match. Gliscored returned to its pokéball without so much as a peep from its trainer and in its place came Ampharos.

Claire’s eyes narrowed at their ‘new’ foe; the audacity of this bitch to evolve in the middle of her battle.

“Alright Chysa, let’s given ‘em hell, Electric Terrain!”
