Your Magnolan Adventure Awaits!
The RP can be found here: https://pokecharms.com/threads/the-region-of-magnol.20629/
Magnol(Mag-nohl) is an original region created by me, Clockwise, and was inspired by areas of my home in the Southeastern United States. If you have a question about the region, please ask. I currently don't have any visual aids, so most information will be described during the RP.
I'm only accepting a select few quality applicants to participate so I won't become overburdened. This is my first time running an RP on Pokecharms, but I have several years of game mastering experience from tabletops.
Overview
The region of Magnol is one of opportunity that has a little something for everyone. Complete with a league of eight gym leaders, four contests, and four unique trials, this land invites competitive trainers from across the world to test their mettle in various ways. Every environment is available in at least a small portion, but new players must arrive through two possible entry points: Luxport in the south by sea via the S.S. Shellanna or Sonax City in the center by plane via Tailwind Airlines.I will be GMing. In other words, I will be the one to decide how NPCs act and when they interact with players. This applies to trainers you might battle, contests, trials, and the different species of wild Pokémon you can meet in each area. Players can decide when wild Pokemon appear on their own, but I reserve the right to initiate unique encounters as I see fit. I will also be deciding what certain portions of the world look like, but I'm always open to creative suggestions.
The Magnolan League
The newly established elite four of the league have yet to crown their first champion. Unlike other regions, challengers may combat gym leaders in any order. Each leader has an appropriate test of skill for a trainer depending on the number of badges he or she possesses. This flexibility deviates from traditional linear journeys of other leagues and contributes to a more unique experience for every trainer. Once eight badges have been earned by a particular individual, they must still complete Magnol's Victory Road to discover the elite four's hidden location.Kemi of Meridale - Psychic Pokémon
ZeVeaux of Lupoto - Rock Pokémon
Cole of Pemhaven - Ice Pokémon
Scara of Verdanflor - Grass Pokémon
Chaw of Zatchen - Flying Pokémon
Atiba of Neo Delorn - Dark Pokémon

The Magnolan Contest Circuit
Apart from the league challenge, aspiring coordinators may partake in five contests of beauty, coolness, smarts, toughness and cuteness throughout the region to earn special ribbons and other prizes for their Pokémon. Each of the four contest settlements hosts every category, but there are different skill levels of normal, super, hyper and master rank. The normal contest is held in Meridale, the super contest in Pemhaven, the hyper contest in Neo Delorn, and the master contest in the capital city of Sonax.Contests have two stages. The first is a performance of moves and/or move combinations a coordinator's Pokémon utilizes to dazzle the judges and audience in a manner consistent with the contest's category. The second stage is a series of two battles against the coordinator's competitors in order to determine both skill and style in combat. One victory gets a participant to the finale. One loss allows a contestant to still compete for third place and its respective points to add to his or her final score. Once points in both stages have been tallied, the winner of the contest is determined and prizes are awarded.
The Magnolan Trials
Similar to the region of Alola, Magnol has four trials available for the public to participate in. Each trial contains tests of endurance, wit, and skill that may allow challengers to capture new partners unavailable elsewhere in the region and face a special Totem Pokémon. Defeating the Totem of a respective area allows the victor to earn unique awards and learn some history of Magnol along the way. The settlements of Hattis Town, Bustar Town, Fordox, and Zatchen each host a trial that is symbolic of their area's culture, geography, and experience. More information will be revealed when attempting a specific trial.People of Interest
Aside from the league's gym leaders, other prominent figures exist to help adventurers on their Magnolan journey. Perhaps the most notable of these individuals is Professor Joaquin Kudzu. The region's foremost Pokémon reseacher, Kudzu has explorered and documented nearly every inch of Magnol. His laboratory headquarters is located in the city of Fordox, but he rarely stays confined to one area. He can often be found travelling throughout the wilderness and local settlements in his pursuit of knowledge. One of Kudzu's collegues is another professor by the name of Delores Sassafras. Her research focuses primarily on Magnol's history and the presence of many ghost-types throughout the region. She can generally be found near gravesites or burial mounds attempting to capture ghost Pokémon on film or by camera. Sassafras offers a quick history lesson to trainers wherever she visits and may even offer to take their portrait if they seem interested enough.
Magnolan Pokémon Forms
Regional variants of common Pokémon have caused Magnol to recently blossom as a hotspot for tourism. While some remain undiscovered, at least ten unique evolutionary lines exist throughout the land. They include Pokémon with either an extra type added to their normal form or possessing a different type altogether. Normal variations of these region-specific Pokémon are also available for capture, but may or may not be located in the same environment as their Magnolan counterparts.Cyndaquil - Fire/Water
Chikorita - Grass/Fire
Totodile - Water/Grass
Ekans - Poison/Water
Teddiursa - Dark
Snubbull - Fairy/Steel
Starly - Flying/Electric
Machop - Fighting/Ghost

Church of Arceus
Religion is prominent throughout Magnol. Aside from the usual facilities of Pokémarts and Pokécenters, churches may also be found within the region's various settlements. While all revere Arceus as the center deity of creation, different towns and cities may hold a specific patron legendary or group of legendaries. A local church is led by an appointed bishop, and all answer to Sonax's Archbishop Tobin. Church services include public outreach, aid to the needy, and weekly worship. The Church sometimes employs trainers to participate in missionary work and to complete certain goals for the betterment of the community and their religion.Team Rebel
Each region has their fair share of criminal enterprise, and Magnol is no exception with the existence of Team Rebel. Rebel grunts are clad in grey antiquated military attire with a red X across their torso. While they have existed on the fringes of society for decades, their new leader, General Hood, has brought their organization out of the shadows during the recent explosion of Magnol's economy. Aside from stealing Pokémon, money, and territory, their primary goal is a revolution to change the laws protecting the freedoms of Pokémon. They want to exploit their powers to make the lives of humans easier, believing the creatures to be tools created for the benefit of mankind.Combat Mechanics and Moves
This RP will follow a style similar to Pokemon Adventures, meaning that levels and game mechanics are considered, but turn-based combat and other nonrealistic elements are not present. Pokemon battles do not always rely on type advantages and stats. The creativity of the trainer can determine the outcome of the battle. Pokemon are able to die, but this is more of a character development tool than anything. They will only die if you decide it to be that way.Unlike the core series of games, Pokémon may know more than four moves. I would like to consider them as more like "move trees". Most with appropriate body types will be able to retain weaker moves such as tackle and scratch throughout their entire careers. Moves such as bubble can be enhanced into bubblebeam or water gun when enough experience is earned. This would not mean your Pokémon could not still use bubble if they choose to do so. Moves will evolve alongside the Pokémon that use them. A Charmander's ember will be different from a Magmortar's. A low-level Tauros's stomp is weaker than a high-level Tauros's.
Learning a new type of move will be more involved and up to you as a writer to describe the process. A creature can not magically know how to use an earthquake instantaneously without trial and error. Technical machines (TMs) will certainly speed up the learning process and still teach moves unaccessible to Pokémon from normal growth. They are available for purchase in major settlements throughout Magnol. Lastly, egg moves must be learned from the appropriate parents. Consider incorporating them into your Pokémon's backstory if you wish to have them.
A Pokémon still has limits to what they are capable of utilizing in their combat repetoire. Overpowered Pokémon are boring and much like Mary Sue characters. Adversity and weakness is what makes the RP believable and entertaining. An individual knowing all of the elemental punches, hyper beam, draco meteor, psychic, and zap cannon is unacceptable. A Pokémon would naturally hone and favor certain techniques over others depending on their talent, nature, and training. However, I sincerely believe four specific moves is too limiting.
Rules - Must Read
1 - All appropriate Pokecharms rules apply. Please become familiar with them before attempting to participate in this RP.
2 - No Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters will be accepted. If you absolutely must have qualities of this sort, you must provide very valid, detailed, and interesting reasons to do so. Abusing these traits will result in your character being denied entry to Magnol. Refer to Pokecharms' helpful guide https://pokecharms.com/threads/the-mary-sue-test.183/ to avoid these issues.
3 - All challengers must start with one low-level Pokémon of their choice, with a maximum of 6 in your character's party at any time. No legendaries, underlevelled evolutions, fakemon, Magnolan forms, or shinies are allowed as starters.
4 - Do not ask for shinies. Shinies may be encountered as a reward for quality and consistent role play as determined by me.
5 - No one may start with more than the standard 3,000 Pokédollars (P) for purchases. You will be required to keep track of your money in each post. You may start with any amount under this limit as appropriate for your character.
6 - Your character may be a resident of the region, but please PM me to discuss this before applying.
7 - No activity from you for two weeks may result in your character being written out of the story. Don't join if you don't have the time to post at least once every few days.
8 - Tasteful romance is allowed, but this RP is not intended to be a dating simulator. Keep it to a necessary minimum.
9 - Please write at least a paragraph for every post. We need quality and detail to have a good time and keep the story flowing. Accomplish things with your written effort.
10 - Every post you make must include your current location, party, inventory, and money at the end of your contribution to help me keep up with everyone's status.
