Private/Closed Total Pokémon Island [REBOOTED 2.0] - Discussion Thread

Hello reader, coming back at ya with another Pokémon Roleplay. This one is a reboot of an old series of roleplays based on the 'Total Drama' series. I was originally introduced to the concept on a different forum that no longer exists (RIP Marriland RP forums), where there were multiple iterations of this series over time and I was proud to be part of one of the last ones ever before that forum shut down. I'm not the first to attempt a revival of this series but I have seen others be successful and wanted to give it a try. Thus, here is my attempt to resurrect a forgotten collection of stories created by fans of both properties!
Note: This RP won't begin until a minimum total of 14 characters have been accepted including my own three, but Id love to shoot for a full cast of 24. That means we need at least 11 before we can start!

Total Pokémon Island is a story with similar structure to the 'Total Drama Island' series, an animated series about a reality show starring a group of 22 teenage contestants of varying personalities that are sent to an island and split into two teams, then made to compete in a multitude of ridiculous, obscene, and sometimes life threatening challenges for a grand cash prize. Full of drama, romance, relationships, friendships, alliances, betrayals, an outlandish host, and plenty of hilarity, the show also includes a confessional segment where viewers get a deeper look at the characters and their feelings on ongoing events. At the end of each challenge, a member of the losing team is voted off the island and eliminated from the competition.
This take on the series crosses it over into the Pokémon world, with humans entirely replaced by Pokémon, Mystery Dungeon style. Each challenge is curated to compliment this, some of them including battles, others involving the necessity of move usage or quick thinking. If you wanna win that cash, you've gotta be the very best!
The setting for the plot will be an island similar to the one in season one of TD, including a waterfall, plenty of forest, two cabins for the teams to bunk in, a mess hall, outhouses, a dock, the campfire area, and of course other details that will be introduced throughout. Contestants are brought to the island individually via a fleet of Lapras employed by the show, each one of the arriving teens hand selected from hundreds of thousands of interview tapes. Challenges will be announced before they take place and will be thought of by yours truly! Elimination votes will be cast through DM's to keep it anonymous and fair.
The grand prize this time around?
10,000,000 PokéDollars!
•Please be capable of writing at least a half paragraph in each of your posts.
•Have at least a basic understanding of BOTH Pokémon and TD.
•This is the same universe as Mystery Dungeon, characters are all Pokémon. People like Red or Cynthia don't exist here, so you can not be one of their Pokémon or a descendant of one. Create your own character and background! ♥
•Do not create a Mary Sue/Gary Stu for this rp. Characters with no flaws or room to grow will be denied.
•Don't be scared to interact! This is a place to write together, so let's create a story we can be proud of.
•Respect other writers and interactions. Don't purposely ruin events or other writers moments for growth or development.
•Be creative! Unique characteristics, quirks, or traits are acceptable within reason including playing a shiny, just ask first.
•Make it make sense. Cool moments and parts of a character are awesome, but try to avoid making yourself OP or "the main character", so everyone gets a chance to shine in the spotlight.
•Up to four moves on a character, hidden abilities and TM/HM/bred moves are allowed, evolution and learning of new moves is allowed throughout the story. Old moves cannot be remembered or used. No held items.
•You may not play Legendaries/Mythicals/Ultrabeasts/Etc.
•Multiple characters are allowed with a limit of three as long as you can keep track of everything.
•Eliminated players will eventually get a secondary thread to write in and continue using their character, separate from the main writing thread where the story is progressing. This will be similar to Playa Des Losers in the show.
•Have fun! Eventually someone has to win within the story, but keep it light and fun for all. If this starts to die, the last poster is responsible for bumping it with a reply.
Name: [Last, First]
Age: [13-18]
Gender: [Male/Female]
Species: [A Pokemon!]
Ability: [Keen Eye, Protean, Levitate, etc.]
Likes: [What do you love?]
Dislikes: [What do you hate?]
Appearance (optional): [Any unique traits or details? Shiny?]
Background: [Where do you come from? Whats your family like? Are you rich, poor, educated, from out in the boonies...?]
Persona: [What are you like? Kind, devious, cocky, a class clown? Maybe you're the quiet type?]
Moves: [example] Tackle | Physical, Normal | A physical attack in which the user charges and slams into the target with its whole body.
Reason for Competing: [Why did you sign up for for the show?]
Name: Calmarii, Octavian
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Species: Malamar
Ability: Suction Cups
Likes: Being in the spotlight, manipulating others, money, his job.
Dislikes: low ratings, boring challenges, his hair being messed up, interns
Appearance (optional): His "hair" is always neatly kept, swept back in typical television host fashion.
Background: Born and raised in the city by his Malamarian parents, Octavian grew up with more opportunity than most. An only child and spoiled to the bone, he quickly learned to love the life that money could bring him and how to manipulate others to get his way. His already easy start to life propelled him when he started his career in television, landing a gig as the host of Total Pokémon Islands... 50th reboot?!
Persona: Witty and quick to crack jokes at others misfortune, Octavian is almost a cookie cutter replacement for Chris McClain in the original TD series. Always coming up with insane challenges to put the campers through and new ways to make their lives more difficult for the sake of ratings and views, he certainly isn't above breaking a few laws to get to the number one spot. If anything happens, he's sure the company behind the show will bail him out, right?
Moves: He won't be competing in absolutely anything, so it doesn't really matter!
Name: Da Butcher
Age: 48
Gender: Male
Species: Ursaring
Ability: Unnerve
Likes: cooking, scaring campers, pranks
Dislikes: insults to his cooking
Appearance (optional): Much larger than average with scars on the right cheek and across the chest.
Background: Not much is known about Da Butcher, not even his actual name is common knowledge aside from amongst the top execs who hired him for the show. Rumor has it he's an ex military guerrilla or an escaped convict. What is factual though is he is a horrendous cook, and will go berserk if anyone insults his food to his face.
Persona: Normally very quiet and reserved, the bulky Ursaring is secretly fond of pranking the campers on the island, especially if it includes frightening them. He will often willfully participate in challenges against the campers and has a slight distaste for the maniacal nature of Octavian. Despite his outward appearance of being intimidating and mean, which has rightfully been earned through action, he can also be made into a good friend with enough effort.
Moves:
High Horsepower | Physical, Ground |
The user fiercely attacks the target using its entire body.

Rest | Status, Psychic | The user goes to sleep for 20 minutes. This fully restores the user's HP and cures any status conditions, but leaves them vulnerable.

Fury Swipes | Physical, Normal | The user attacks by raking the target with claws, scythes, or the like. This move hits two to five times in a row.

Payback | Physical, Dark | The user stores power, then attacks. This move's power is doubled if the user moves after the target.
Name: Kaito, Riven
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Species: Absol
Ability: Super Luck
Likes: snow, cool temperatures, music, night time
Dislikes: cheaters, stressful situations, clutter
Appearance (optional): The horn atop his head curves slightly more inward than it should, creating almost a hook at the top end.
Background: Born and raised in a cozy home in a rural village, Riven was a junior to his father, his parents being an Absol and an Altaria by the names Riven and Melody respectively. The both of them had been competitors on the show many years ago in their youth, now much too old to be preoccupied with dreams of fame and fortune. Neither of the pair had won the grand fortune in their run at competing, but they had kindled a relationship in their time together on the island. Of course, as time went on they ended up together and settled down with a family, first having Riven Jr. and then years later gifting the boy with a Swablu for a sister. Their father was always a gruff, hardstuck man with a harsh way of parenting due to his own upbringing while their mother was quite the opposite; nurturing and kind. Both were hard workers though, with hearts softer than sand for those they love. Perhaps that's why they attracted each other. Without much of a tough childhood or sick sibling to whine about in his audition tape and no weird perona to showcase, Riven Jr. relied on the fact his parents are former competitors and to his relief, he was selected to compete on Total Pokémon Island.
Persona: Aloof and carefree, Riven Jr. is nothing like his father, who was a ruthless competitor years ago. A go-with-the-flow type, the young Absol is more than happy to let others do the planning and work for him as long as he thinks they're capable. He isn't lazy though, more than happy to take the reigns and be the leader amongst his peers if he feels he is the smartest, strongest, or wittiest there. Even if he isn't, he is willing to at least play his part to get by. Compassionate and a lover of fairness like his momma, he isn't much of a fan of dirty or underhanded tactics.
Moves:

Sucker Punch | Physical, Dark | The user makes a surprise attack at an opportune moment, striking the target with blinding speed. It always hits if the target is not fully prepared or has their back turned.

Shadow Claw | Physical, Ghost | The user attacks by slashing the target with a sharp claw made from shadows. This move has a heightened chance of landing a critical hit.

Blizzard | Special, Ice | A howling blizzard is summoned to strike opposing Pokémon. This may also leave the opposing Pokémon frozen.

Detect | Status, Fighting | This move enables the user to protect itself from all attacks. Its chance of failing rises if it is used in succession.

Reason for Competing: To win the money for his family to live without worry, particularly his mother and younger sister, Chime. [/SPOILER]

Just a polite question, does the Pokémon have to be fully evolved? Like if I was using a Beeheyem, how old would my character have to be?
They can be any age at any evolution level. I'm not equating age to level, in fact moreso going on the anime's take on evolution being a personal growth thing for each Pokémon.
For example, one could play a 15yo Blastoise with their parents being a Squirtles or Wartortles who simply didn't choose to evolve. In my last experience writing one of these there was a writer who played a Scizor named Rava and made it quite far.
HOWEVER, I do recommend playing a first or second stage evolution to give your character room to evolve and grow through the story physically. A fully evolved mon may find themselves winning a lot at first but once others evolve they may find their strategies outdated against mons of equal or greater strength. It's up to you!

Name: Roswell, Klytus
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Species: Elgyem
Ability: Synchronize

Likes: Technology, science, things relating to space, things he doesn’t understand at first (gives him a chance to discover something new), puzzles, logical decisions, his older brother Zaxxen, and conspiracy theories (he finds them fun to listen too, but can tell which ones are wrong, and he likes the ones involving aliens).

Dislikes: Things that don’t make sense at all, being called Cletus, being tricked or fooled, and bad decisions.

Appearance (optional): Klytus is actually shiny, which he didn’t even know until Gramps told him, and he takes it with pride. In addition, he wears a colorful bandana around his neck, which he found exploring the nearby city. He also exclusively speaks telepathically, not having a mouth.

Background: Long long ago, he and his older brother fell from beyond the stars, and were found by an old Drampa named Gramps, who wished to have children of his own. The kind and caring Drampa saved the both of them, and ever since Klytus and Zaxxen have been his adoptive kids, and they have been helping him out with his responsibilities (This story is definitely told to the local kids). They’ve been living in a village near the city, allowing Klytus and his brother to discover a new frontier like nothing they’ve ever seen before and meet so many new people. For him, every day is a new and wonderful experience and a chance of discover something new. Eventually this made him and Zaxxen prime targets for Total Pokémon Island, at the behest of Gramps, who preferred them to stay with him. Klytus was selected due to his more upbeat and wild personality, and while his Elgyem physiology meant the audition tape was accidentally corrupted, the prospect of having an actual alien on the show was too much to resist…

Persona: As an actual alien, Klytus is kind and curious, as he just wishes to discover more about the world around him. Though coming off as a bit neurotic and controlling sometimes, if he feels he doesn’t know what he’s doing he will step down. While he seems innocent, he doesn’t really have boundaries, and his morality is greyer than you think. His intellect is surprisingly high compared to most Pokémon, and he’s quite the inventor, though he isn’t caught up with modern trends.

Moves:
Confusion | Special, Psychic | A special attack in which the user shoots several balls of psychic energy at the opponent. Once they hit, stars swirl above the target and they are confused and suggestible.

Teleport | Status, Psychic | An evasive move that allows the user to teleport short distances, by disappearing and reappearing in a short flash.

Thunder Wave | Status, Electric | A status move in which the user shoots electric rings from one of their hands. This paralyzes the opponent on contact.

Reason for Competing: He wants to use the money to help him and his brother return to the stars, or build an outpost here on earth to contact his kind.

Approved, love the character concept and he just overall seems so adorable and loveable!! Nice work.

Hope to see more quality characters like this coming in soon!

Bump! Hopefully we can see some attention to this soon, otherwise I'll end up considering it a failed reboot:(
Don't worry, help is on the way...relatively soon...Thinking of joining this one since there's no other active RP thread where I can play as a Pokemon primarily and the other one is basically frozen since the original poster can be bothered to start it!

Well, I must help out with the drought.

Name: Chanterelle, Enoki
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Species: Toedscool
Ability: Mycelium Might

Likes: Rock and punk music, shenanigans, having fun (no matter how dangerous and risky), being cool and taking risks, and her bandmates and the band (She plays the drums).

Dislikes: Her lack of arms and anyone mentioning that (Her lack of arms makes her feel inadequate), rules, being grounded, her high-class status being mentioned (She doesn’t wanna talk about it), and being seen as uncool or lame.

Appearance (optional): Her legs are slightly longer than normal Toedscool, and she wears a red beanie.

Background: She was raised in the noble Chanterelle family, which is mostly composed of wealthy mushroom Pokemon (Breloom, Shiinotic, etc.), but she decided to follow her own path in life. Her family wasn’t warm and fuzzy, and she was neglected by her aristocratic parents, who only saw her as another step in their plans. Enoki usually spends her time out and about the urban city she lives in, to the dismay of her parents, and she had ran away from home after she was kicked out of school for getting into a fight. She was recruited for Total Pokemon Island while on the streets, being a rebel icon in the slums of the city.

Persona: Although she's rebellious and a fighter, she has a heart of gold and isn’t afraid to step up to anyone who stands in her way. She always feels as if she has to prove something, which makes her quite competitive and determined. While Enoki is usually apathetic and cold to most people, if you get to know her she can be really sweet, though she won’t admit it.

Moves:

Stun Spore | Status, Grass | This move causes the user to release a cloud of yellow spores, either all around the user or aimed like a spray bottle. On contact with the target’s skin, the spores cause said target to become paralyzed.

Trailblaze | Physical, Grass | An attack that has the user dash around with a green aura before striking the opponent in a fast and sudden motion, as if leaping out from tall grass. The user's nimble footwork boosts their speed.

Reason for Competing: She’s gonna use that money to help her band become famous.
