In the past:
Kaleb and Jason accepted the offer and thanked the man.
"Excuse me, but do you know how far Laverre City is from here?" Jason asked. "We need to get there fast."
In the present day:
Jason was battling another trainer in the Kalos league. He had made it to the semifinals and wasn't going to lose it here.
"Sceptile, Leaf Blade!" he commanded. Sceptile jumped at the Blastoise, hitting it right in the face with Leaf Blade. It fell. The other trainer had one more Pokémon.
The trainer, a guy named Pete, sent out his Arcanine. It hit Sceptile with Wild Charge, but Sceptile fought back with Dual Chop. It eventually fainted to a Flamethrower from the Arcanine.
"Your turn, Donphan," he said, sending it out. Donphan charged at Arcanine, using Rollout, but Arcanine fought back with Fire Fang. After a long battle, Arcanine and Donphan stood face to face, both exhausted. They stared each other in the eyes, and Arcanine fell to the ground.
Jason smiled as he had won another battle and made it to the finals, but soon found out who his next opponent would be.
Alex.
Did he really have to crush this kid's dreams? He had been friends with him for a long time. He knew what he had to do.
Around six weeks ago:
Meanwhile, Kaleb smiled as Alex returned, holding up his eighth and final gym badge.
"Congratulations, Alex," he said. "You may even get a chance to compete against us in the Sinnoh league."
