Gotta Debate 'Em All!

I don't really have a dislike or a liking to any of the games. I see the regions as cool landmasses with their own culture and Pokemon, but I just cant get into the games anymore. It's kind of sad. I'm not sure if it's because I don't go through the story and I instead try to catch all the Pokemon I can and level them all up as I go (so XY has like 20 Pokemon you can catch before the first gym, so guess what I was doing before I even beat Viola...)

I actually did the opposite of that when Sw/Sh came out. I went into the games blind not knowing any of the dex that hadn't already been revealed. It allows me to use a multitude of Pokemons rather than just six and I love the surprise behind getting a Pokemon to evolve and not knowing what it will become, whether I end up disappointed or not. The only exception I might make to this way of playing in the future will be the starters because I ended up quite disappointed with Rillaboom ngl.

Not sure if there’s anybody that shares this opinion, but whatever. I think Ash Greninja is kinda dumb. The design is fine, I actually think it’s cool. But I just don’t really get why it exists. Given I didn’t watch too much of the XY/XYZ anime, but I’m just wondering, what’s so special about Ash and Greninja’s bond? I think I’ve heard the in universe explanation is that Froakie was waiting for the perfect trainer or something? But I still don’t know how I feel about it, I just don’t buy that he has that strong of a bond with Greninja compared to all of his other Pokemon. Especially Pokemon like Pikachu and Charizard (I’m not saying they should get their own specific transformations though, cause I also think that’d be kinda dumb.)

This is just a case of me not understanding something, so if someone is able to explain it that’d be much obliged.

I haven't watched the XY anime but I'd imagine maybe it was because none of Ash's pokemon could mega evolve so they wanted to give one of his pokemon a special form (correct me if I'm wrong please). If that's the case though, I don't see why they couldn't have brought back Ash's Charizard and given it one of the mega evolutions. That's just my guess tho.

Also I know that Greninja was ranked as one of the most popular pokemon back then, so maybe that had a factor?

They should have given Ash a pokémon that mega evolves. They could have easily thought of that ahead of time. I also dislike Ash-greninja. Personally I think greninja ranked as high as it did because of its important role in the anime. I have no doubt it would still be a fan favorite even if it wasn't his ace pokémon in gen 6. However had it played less a significant role in gen 6 ,or not given that powerup It would probably be higher on the list.

Ash has had many bonds with many pokémon. To say Ash's bond with greninja had that much more of an impact seems total bogus. No way some random gen pokémon Ash is just gonna end up forgetting when the next gen rolls around will have that much of a meaningful relationship. Gen 7 rolls around. What's Ash-greninja? Who knows? Who cares. Lets catch some gen 7 pokémon ,and thats my thoughts on greninja. Its gen 6. As soon as Ash rolls around to the next region he ditches all of his previous gen pokémon and gets new ones. By the time gen 8 gets here Ash has long since forgotten greninja. So much for that meaningful connection...

I didn't mind that they included the mechanic of Bond Phenomenon, but I wished they added it to Pikachu. But since Pikachu is not a fully evolved Pokemon, they probably decided that it couldn't do Bond Phenomenon. Which is sad, but oh well. The fact that Greninja got it was kind of cool. Besides Pikachu, Ash was closest to Greninja out of the rest of them and even when he was a Froakie, he chose Ash. They grew on the bond of friendship and the desire for power and control within the battle. It was one of the more mature seasons of Ash, as Ash went through an arc where he actually went through depression and the entire XY/XYZ series added his blooming friendship with Serena, which took another step further when she kissed him when the camera moved away. It made Ash feel human and like a 15-year-old and not make him seem like a dumb 10-year-old with the memory of a rock.

I can’t lie, I’m not a huge fan of his personality in xy. There’s no denying he’s way more mature and it’s nice seeing him like that, but that’s also my issue. The reason I like Ash is cause he was always kinda dumb and often immature. He’d always make these dumb mistakes, and I liked that he wasn’t exactly perfect, he’s just a 10 year old kid.

Funnily enough this is probably the same reason a lot of people dislike him, but it is what it is.

I kinda wanna see another grass/dragon. As awesome as appletun is he isn't what I expected a grass/dragon to look. You could bring up mega sceptile ,but its a temporary typing. It would be cool to see a dragon big like a tree. possibly even a tree shaped like a dragon.

This is how I imagine a grass/dragon would look;

Now the Gen 6 starters are some Pokemon I'm surprised we haven't talked about much (or maybe we did and I just don't remember). Personally if I were to choose one of them, I'd go for Fennekin. Fennekin on it's own is a pretty cute fire fox Pokemon. The mage concept isn't a bad one and I like the Fire/Psychic combo, but I don't care for Delphox's design. I think it's the baggy fur and the ear fur. Had they toned that down I could see myself being a fan, but that's not the case. Froakie has a decent design, Frogadier is alright, and they lost me at Greninja. Like I said before I'm not fond of twiggy and flimsy looking Pokemon. I hate Chespin and Quilladin. Chesnaught has the worst starter Pokemon design that I've ever seen.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the Gen 6 starters either.

Also grass/dragon is a pretty neat type with a lot of potential. Appletun is one of the most adorable Pokemon they've added since like Bewear (imo).

My main problem with Delphox, and this also goes for other starters like Incineroar (even though I really like it) and Primarina, is that their designs aren’t gender neutral enough. I can’t believably imagine Delphox and Primarina being male, even though they have a much higher chance of being male. And I can’t for the life of me imagine a female Incineroar.

Well, there's also Gardevoir, Mr. Mime, Mr. Rime, and the Machop line to consider if you are thinking about losing ambiguity in genders. Lots more Pokemon have that issue.

As for the designs, I couldn't really care all that less about how they look. Yea, Chesnaught looks exceptionally bulky and defensive, but the stat layout it has shows that nicely. Delphox's stats and appearance are proportionate too. Greninja isn't defensive. It is a glass cannon. You can have lean muscle (like farmer muscle) and still lift a considerable amount of weight that body builders can dream of lifting when starting out their body sculpting career. There was a picture of really young kids being able to lift a tractor! They have been living on the farm for all of their single digit life and they were able to lift up a tractor with ease.

Even though Greninja is based on a ninja and has decent Attack, it has more Special Attack anyway. It being muscular isn't needed, as that makes them slower when going through the air. They have to have aerodynamic to keep their speed up and, as a ninja, running around and being agile and quick is important. If it were more muscular, then it wouldn't be a ninja. It would be more like a Samurai, and we already have Samurott.

I have mixed feelings on delphox. I really like the concept ,but I cant see my self using delphox. Delphox is like a pyromancer right? Those are pretty cool when done right.

I really enjoyed using chesnaught. To me the design is really cool. I had fun using it in my all fighting team; chesnaught, machamp, pangoro, hawlucha, toxicroak ,and medicham. My team destroyed everything!

as for greninja it looks cool. I usually don't have a high opinion of ninjas outside naruto ,and stuff like that. this is what I normally think of ninjas;

Chesnaught is probably the most just “fine” starter to me. Don’t really dislike it, don’t like it either. The progression from Chespin to Chesnaught doesn’t really work for, kinda like how Oshawott to Samurott doesn’t. I think the reason I don’t love Chesnaught is because Chespin was the Kalos starter I planned on picking, I still think it’s a great first evolution. Then Quilladin got shown and I thought: “It’s alright, it’s only a middle evolution so I can tolerate it.” And then the final evolutions got leaked with Chesnaught obviously being one of them, and I was honestly just thinking: “Eh I think I’m gonna go with Froakie.” As I said before, I don’t dislike Chesnaught, I was just disappointed with it. Definitely my least favourite grass starter though.

Sidenote: It’s shiny colouring should be it’s regular colouring.

Gonna be honest here, Chesnaught and his gang of goons are are my least favorite starters. I don't like Chespin. It's not the brand of cute that I personally care for but that's okay. Quilladin is the most abysmal and embarrassing looking creature I've ever seen. Everything it is just reeks of terribleness. And then it evolves into Chesnaught and I'm just asking "Wtf happened here? This is what you consider to be a hedgehog Gamefreak?" It's such an awkward design. Even Chesnaught looks uncomfortable with it's existence. Just look at it's base stance. The big arms are just hanging there very stiffly. I pity it more than I dislike it.

I always quite liked Chespin. Out of the three first stage Kalos starters I think it has the most personality, which is what I tend to look for. And even as much as I don’t really like Quilladin all that much, I still think it has a decent personality. Then Chesnaught drops that by becoming a blank faced...thing, cause I’m not exactly sure what it is.

According to Bulbapedia:

"Chesnaught seems to be based on a hedgehog combined with a matured chestnut. It may also draw inspiration from "armored" mammals such as pangolins, armadillos, and glyptodonts. Its bulky "armor" is possibly a reference to split apart calybium and cupule, which are parts that protect the nuts of chestnut trees which split apart when sufficiently ripened. It is also based on knights and various types of body armor, including brigandines, barbutes and modern bomb suits. Chesnaught and its pre-evolutions may also draw inspiration from the warrior class as most warriors specialize in physical combat and make great use of the most powerful heavy armor while having a much more chivalric aspect."

It looks stoic because it's trying to make it seem like a guardian who is there to protect. I just realized that Chesnaught is the Lawful Good Paladin, Delphox is the Neutral Good Sorcerer or some other mage, and Greninja is a Chaotic Good Rogue with the Assassin subclass. XD

Thanks Merciless Medic... Now I hate chesnaught now... I got one of those dam paladins on my team. Onlly a matter of time before he starts trying to spread his beliefs to the whole party. delphox might be neutral good ,but I still don't trust it because its a sorcerer. Its probably a wild magic sorcerer or something. Ain't trustin' no sorcerer. As for greninha I don't trust no chaotic good characters. especially the rogue variety. those are the ones that tend to be murder hobos. Being a rogue means he probably has a dark edgy backstory. He gots the ninja aspect confirming that it likely is.

I'm gonna have to be real careful with my chesnaught now... Now I gotta find a way to teach my chesnaught 'smite' though.

Lol there are Paladins who dont spread their belief. Mainly because some deities wish for paladins to be holy warriors and have the missionaries do their job. Even then, I feel like most Pokemon believe in Arceus creating the world.

And there is a Paladin path where they become Conqueror or War paladins. The frontlines in war.

Also, if you are CG, you can't be a murder hobo. You are most likely a CE (Chaotic Evil) if that's the case.

Out of interest, what’s everyone’s favourite type?

My personal favourite type is dark, ground and fighting are a close second and third respectively, but as for now it’s dark. I just really think the type as a whole has the most personality, most of the Pokemon are either really mischievous or straight up evil in a few cases, and I really love that. And I really do like a majority of dark types, with there not being any I really dislike. May not be the strongest reasoning, but I just really like the dark type.

My favorite type is Fighting. Fire, Normal, and maybe even poison are all up there too. I wouldn't say that is based completely off the typing itself, rather how much I like the Pokemon from those types. It's hard for me to think of a fighting type that I don't like. I like the hitmonchans, the primeapes, the Sawks and Throhs, the Machokes, the list goes on. The same can be said for Normal and Fire.

Finally someone else who likes Sawk and Throh, everyone seems to hate them. I get that it’s the whole thing of them wearing clothes, but that really doesn’t bother me.

The only fighting type I dislike is Crabominable which is, along with Ambipom, my absolute least favourite Pokemon. Though the reason I dislike it is more because of personal phobias and shit, not really for its typing, since I often forget that it’s even fighting type. But other than that mistake of a Pokemon, I’d say that I like every fighting type.

I don't exactly have one all time favorite, since every type is my all time favorite, and I just about have an excuse why I love every Pokemon I see. That also includes the ones people hate for some reason. I don't know why, I just can't bring myself to hate a Pokemon, even if they have bad traits that would make them disgusting.

It's the same thing with animals in real life. There is not an animal I hate, but all animals I find cute, awesome, or cool. I find gators and ostriches adorable weirdly enough, and so it translates to Pokemon. XD

You’ve got a nice outlook on things then, good on ya! Honestly I can mostly say the same, there are very few Pokemon I truly dislike, and even less that I hate. And even then I can see redeemable qualities within those Pokemon I dislike. It would be a lot nicer if I liked every Pokemon, but there’s just some where I can’t bring myself to like it. But it’s usually down to more personal things, e.g. Crabominable. Since I have a strange fear for things that have fur that aren’t mammals, or generally wouldn’t have fur. Like: Tarantulas and Yeti Crabs (what Crabominable is based on)

Edit: This last part should be reworded, cause there are technically some animals that aren’t classed as mammals that have fur, yet don’t make me uncomfortable. But I just didn’t know how to describe it. So I’ll just say animals that don’t look like they should have fur, which still might not make sense.

Sawk and Throh are okay I suppose.

Sawk looks like a Tae Kwon Doe(TKD) practitioner. Sawk looks like he's wearing a dobok(TKD uniform) It has the 'V' shape however Sawk's goes super low almost touching his belly button.
539.png

mid-adult-man-in-fighting-stance-X88KDK.jpg

(This is what a traditional TKD outfit looks like. You might not be able to see if from this angle but the man has the 'V' shape on his dobok.

Throh is wearing the same outfit as sawk ,but Sawk's stance ,and name make me think judo more than TKD.

I do not care for these pokémon. THey are cool. I like them ,but I don't care much for them.

As for favorite types my list of favorite types to least favorite types first type on the list being my favorite last type on the list being my least favorite; steel, rock, normal, fighting, ghost, dark, poison, psychic, bug, water, ice, fairy, dragon, fire, grass, electric, ground ,and flying.

Steel has too many of my favorite pokémon to be anywhere other than #1.

Rock type is #2 because fossils ,and so many other cool pokémon,

normal type is #3 Just look at my signature. Normal type is cool because they vary so much. Look at porygon-z, castform, ditto, kecleon ,or arceus. Normal type has a lot of cool pokémon. I have always had my normal team at the top ,and always will.

fighting is #4 cause its fighting baby. straight up knuckle brawling and stuff.

ghost types have the best worst dex entries.

dark types are the edgy pokémon for edgy trainers with dark brooding back stories... im batman... batman would totally have an all dark team.

poison type is just cool they deserve a high spot cause they are the perfect choice for a rocker or a rapper or other musician. yeaaah! %$#@ yeah!

#8th is the big brain bois. Need I say anything else? I'd love to RP as a character with psychic abilities ,and a all psychic team. PSychic type has all the cool weird pokemon like sigilyph, xatu, claydol ,or the unknown.

bugs are next. scizor is my #2 favorite pokémon of all time. There are so many cool bugs.

water type is next there are a lot of cool water types. I enjoy playing as water type specialists in RPs. The idea of having a fisherman just relaxing off the coast listening to the radio or a scuba diver traveling under water ruins is dope.

Ice makes for fun RPing. When your the ice type trainer your the coolest trainer around. I've had a lot of fun RPing as a certain ice type trainer...

fairy is cool too cause you got the cute little jigglypuff ,and the mean looking granbull. They vary. I mostly like the ones that don't look like they should be fairy. but the cute ones are totally adorable.

dragon scored so low on the list because I just don't use dragons very much. They aren't bad ,but they aren't really my speed. I love them though. Dragons are cool. Nobody can deny this. Even the most staunch of dragons haters out there gotta atleast agree they are cool.

fire is next cause come on guys. Fire type specialist would be the best! My fire type specialist would be saying things like "Lets bring the heat!" "stay outta the kitchen if you can't stand the heat!" ,or "I'ma bout to start a flame war!".

Grass is cool cause nature boys. Funny enough you would think grass type trainers are vegetarians ,but no! Grass types should eat meat and nothing but meat. Those plants are my friends! Eat a milktank or a tauros if your so hungry! If I see you try touch my boi tropius's bananas one more time someones gonna get stomped my dude.

I never really use electric types like ever. I like them ,but I don't really use them. Which is why they are this low on the list.

ground is lower on the list because whenever I do use ground type its the multi-typing ones that I use.

flying type is at the bottom for the same reason ground is at the bottom. I like these guys ,but I never use them because they are flying type.

I don't hate any type of pokémon. I just don't use the ones at the bottom as much unless they have a cool dual typing with one of my favorite types.

Rock type is high up there definitely. I mean come on, Geodude might be the closest we come to a perfect Pokemon.

The question of what Batman's Pokemon team is one that might not belong here, but I'd like to talk about it anyways. A focus on dark type makes obvious sense. He'd have a team of stealthy mons that attack from the shadows. Of course, Batman is the world's greatest detective so he'd have some high IQ Pokemon in there too. Maybe some psychic types? I also like the idea of throwing a flying type in there somewhere. Maybe that is where a Crobat would belong.

Jayblade

Previously AceTrainerGold
Gliscor would suit Batman really well. It shares a similar colour scheme to him, and is a bat. Crobat obviously works really well too though. Can’t think of much else of the top of my head.

On the topic of rock types though, I am also a big fan. Gigalith, Lycanroc, Aggron, Aerodactyl, Archeops and Tyranitar are some of my personal favourite rock types. It’s a kinda similar type to ground (my second favourite type) so that might be a reason I like it too.

I'd have to agree with Jay on the gliscor. Funny enough I was just about to suggest that before reading his post.

My dark type specialist would be a biker badass that takes no shhh from noobody! That or he'd be wiiiiiild!! like those guys from fairy tail.
latest

I've never been keen on role playing as a serious no nonsense character so my biker would act serious but deep down he's kind of a goofball. It would get kinda boring if he was just moody broody all the time. I'm looking at you batman... Love ya Bruce ,but you'd look better if you could crack a smile from time to time.

I couldn't really think of an all dark team for batman since neither gliscor or crobat are dark type so heres my weird little team idea for batman... gliscor, greninja, metagross, hawlucha, crobat ,and pangoro

Gliscor fits perfectly cause batman doesn't really fly when he fights crime. He leaps and glides down. greninja because bruce wayne was trained by Ra's Al Ghul who trained batman ninja stuff. metagross is basically a super computer ,and its tough as steel. Just like batman thinks he is. Batman is a skilled fighter ,and hawlucha gliding around with batman makes sense... crobat because batman's fear of bats. and pangoro is a dark type thats good at fighting. Just like batman.

Stop being me.

Anyway, my favorite typing would be between electric and fighting, although I like all the other typings well.
Electric since I've always been a thunder fan. If I had to pick a power, I'd pick electric powers.
And Fighting since they mostly focus on offense, which is basically how I battle. Also Lucario, and I do have a lot of fighting types I like.

Meanwhile in pokémon somehow somewhere someone is teaching aggron surf...

You know what else is weird? Non-spider pokemon using electro web...

Spiders have silk glands as well as a spinneret to shoot webs from.
1280px-Spider_internal_anatomy-en.svg.png

joltik and galvantula don't shoot webs from their bums, but pikachu? Pikachu has nowhere else it can shoot a web from. I'm not posting a picture of pikachu shooting a web... *shudders*

Electro Web really should’ve stayed as a signature move for the Joltik line. I kinda dislike when a move that was seen as a Pokemon’s “signature move” then gets given to loads of other Pokemon, even when it doesn’t make much sense.

Tbf I probably only dislike it so much is because Leaf Blade (which used to be seen as Grovyle and Sceptile’s signature move) got given to quite a few other Pokemon. Though fortunately most that learn it make sense.

You know what else seems weird? The use of TMs. These things are discs like dvds. Do you play them on a dvd player and the pokémon is supposed to watch and understand what technique it sees on the television? How does that work?
tumblr_m488ora7D11rwong6o1_400.jpg

What happens when snorlax uses metronome and gets extreme speed? I don't wanna look at snorlax's opponent after that hit...

Deleted member 284192

The TMs being some sort of tutorial that you play for your Pokemon probably makes the most sense, but I personally like the idea of shoving a dvd down my pet's throa- actually never mind I take it back. That sounds a lot worse out loud.
