Open Mankai, Sange: A Yuki Yuna Is A Hero RP

"It's worth a try!" Rin answered, readying her sabre, as she felt Nezu crawl up her arm.

Despite the fairy's efforts, however, the soul only released more gas, to replenish its camoflage. And the seal wasn't going to hold up for very much longer...

Rin jumped as she felt something brush past her ear, and a small buzz. And all of a sudden, she knew what to do.

"We can't see it, she announced, "But we can hear it!"

Maria realized Rin was right. She felt for an arrow in her quiver, and grabbed one putting it in the string. Then she pulled back tightly, and waited for a sound. She heard it, as it brushed behind her, so she swiftly turned around, and let go of the string, causing the arrow to hit the vertex.

The vertex shuddered inside the seal, appearing to be losing its patience quickly. Hitting it dead on was not going to end it for good, however. Only destroying its soul would see it gone forever.

Rin was starting to lose all hope, when she too heard the buzz again. The soul had narrowly evaded Yosuki's blade, and was now circling the heroes...Or so it seemed.

"Alright, we'll need to be careful, or we'll end up hitting each other," Rin announced, "But the soul appears to be circling us. Listen closely, and when it's in front of us, we're all gping to finish it at once!"

Ruby closed his and calmed his mind to where he could only hear, or try to find a buzz noise. Fjord looked tired from trying to move the clouds away and lied down on Ruby's head. Ruby, on the other hand, heard the buzz and thrusted his sword, trying to hit the soul.

Maria couldn't do that much now. But she shot her arrows, as long as she heard the noise. But Mary tripped over her own feet, and fell, shoulder first into the ground. The pain went 'round her shoulders harshly, as she shook it off, and tried to feel the ground to get up, making some shuffling noises in the process.

A colourful burst of roots, roots as lot like the ones on the floor beneath them burst from the soul, as the smog finally cleared. The vertex body took on an ash-like colour, and then melted, as the barrier cleared.

When the heroes landed, however, they were nowhere near the school. Sanshuu Middle School was but a dot in the distance from where they were.

Rin analysed her surroundings, as her hero outfit faded. Judging by the looks of things, the heroes had been deposited at the wagashi shop, where Rin lived.

"Well, well, well," she snorted, "Looks like we landed in the perfect spot!"

"What do you mean by that?" Ruby asked, his armor dimming and fading. Fjord looked up from Ruby's head and turned to analyze his surroundings. Ruby did likewise, adjusting his eyesight. "Man...that was brutal...My eyes are stinging from that..." He said, shaking his head.

"We're miles away from school," Rin answered, "And we've landed just outside my house. We could, quite reasonably, skip the rest of the day now."

The hero gave herself a quick once-over, rubbing the remains of the gas out of her eyes. Nezu still floated by her side, though he showed no obvious signs of concern for his mistress.

"What a troublesome vertex," Rin spat, "With the way that thing fought, it's a miracle that we didn't go mankai back there."

Maria's clothes faded from view, as she was left in her school uniform again. Kai returned to the phone, as Mary rubbed her eyes with her fingers. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she saw how far away the school was. When Rin suggested they skip the rest of the day, Maria politely agreed, as she dusted off her dark blue skirt.

"Sure, I don't see why we can't. From what i've heard the taisha normally give us a pardon so it should be fine." Yosuki said as his hero outfit faded away. "Although, my house is on the other side of the town."

Rin nodded. "Yup, they do! They understand that after we've fought, we're often quite tired, or even badly hurt, and that we can end up anywhere in the city once the Jukai fades," she began, "So we can skip, scot-free, after our battles."

The hero glanced up at the fascia of the wagashi shop, which she lived above with her parents. After that brutal battle, she wanted nothing more than to relax with some dorayaki, and maybe some amazake...

"My parents own this wagashi shop," she began, "So, how about some free Japanese sweets?"

"I'm in!" Maria immediately said, as Pocky came to her mind.

Mary loved Pocky, and the sour sweets of Japan. She liked the pop there as well, and she hated normal pop.

"Yuzuki Rin, third year, Hero Club president, and member of the proud Yuzuki family, who rank high within the Taisha," Rin said proudly, eager to flaunt her status, "And this is Nezu, the fairy assigned to me by the gods."

The small, mouse-like fairy popped out of Rin's phone, floating by his master. Nezu had two long black tails, and grey fur, and his eyes were covered with what appeared to be a black blindfold.

"I do as well, because if we don't, everybody dies!" Rin said almost too casually, "And even if we do, we could end up going mankai so many times that we wind up too disabled to even dress or feed ourselves!"

Nezu didn't react to Rin's rather dark speech, instead floating by her ears. 'Twas only the duty of a hero, after all, to be sacrificed to the gods for the sake of the world. Humans had been doing it since before the dawn of the vertexes, and they'd continue to do so, unless the vertexes destroyed the barrier.

"As the same meeting you." Maria said to Yosuki.

Then she heard the dark speech Rin gave, and gave a small gulp, before rubbing under her nose a bit, with a scared smile on her face.

"Maybe I should focus less on what you say about the death of everyone if we don't do our job correctly." she joked, as she put her hands behind her back.

"Agreed, if thinking like that means that you won't fight properly, when the next one comes," Rin said coolly, "Fear is a hero's greatest enemy, for with it, we lose the strength, and the will to fight."

And with that, the hero shunted the door open, resulting in the tinkling of the doorbell. Beneath the counter were trays of dorayaki, poor man's mochi, kingyo jelly, anmitsu, and almost every other kind of Japanese confection there was.

"Hey! I will be more than ready to fight. It's what you said about screwing up that worried me, sister." Maria said sassily, as she glared at Rin.

She knew a fight would most likely start, but she needed to say something. No one is going to snap at her like that and get away with it.

"You were told about the burden that being a hero entails when you were chosen!" Rin scoffed, "It's our duty...But it's not like we ever had a choice..."

Rin tailed off, as she recounted her life before she'd become a hero. As the daughter of the powerful Yuzuki family, Rin had been told, from birth, that she was going to be chosen as a hero someday. It was her fate to fight, whether she wanted to or not. Her fate to go mankai, to be sacrificed like a cow to the gods. The vertexes would come, and she'd fight, becoming more and more disabled each time she went mankai, until all that was left of her was a body which would need bathing, feeding, dressing, and having nigh on everything done for it. She'd be nothing, once her body was all used up to mankai, and there was nothing she could do about it.

"Sure I was told. Not until today that is. And I'm not the one who keeps telling people what'll happen if they fail." Maria whispered to herself, as she walked inside, a glare still on her face.

She walked over to a counter, to find many different kinds of Pocky. She picked up a box of Pocky, a kind filled with peanut butter. Then she walked up to Rin.

"How much is this?" she asked, as she showed Rin the box.

Rin held her hand up. "It's on the house," she said casually, as she spied a woman in a light spring yukata walking out with a tray of freshly-made chocolate cornets.

"That's ok with you, right, mama?" the hero asked her.

"Yes, of course, dear," she answered, ruffling her daughter's hair, "Now, what'll it be for you, Rin? Dorayaki?"

Rin's eyes darted between the counters. At first, she had wanted dorayaki, but now that there were chocolate cornets up for grabs, still warm from the oven, she had to have one of those instead...

"A chocolate cornet!" the hero said triumphantly, "Oh, and a kohakuto for Nezu!"

The woman handed Rin a cornet, before taking a single cube of kohakuto, and placing it on a plate for her daughter's fairy. Since descending to the earthly realm, Nezu had grown quite fond of the confection, which had a hard, crunchy outside, and a soft, jelly-like inside.

"Anything else for you?" she asked the others, as Rin bit into her treat.

"I'm fine, thank you." Maria said, as she opened her box of Pocky, and opened the bag, taking one out, and taking a bite off of it.

The delicious peanut butter, cracker and chocolate covered stick was delicious and smooth against her tongue, and she happily took another bite.

"Think nothing of it," the woman answered, bowing, before placing the remaining cornets in their display tray. They jostled for attention with taiyaki, and sweet potato mont blancs.

Rin, meanwhile, munched on her cornet, eating with a surprising delicacy.

"Yeah, and there's tons to do around the city," Rin answered, "We could go shopping, head to the beach on the edge of town, head to the dog shelter, or I think there's a festival later, so we could go to that...Say, do you have your spring yukatas?"

"I do, but I find it very uncomfortable around the waist..." Maria said, a bit embarrassed.

Mary then took another stick of Pocky, and ate it, trying to get her mind off of the festival.

"I do have one." Yosuki said. "But if Maria's yukata is uncomfortable, maybe we shouldn't go." He popped his fingers, somewhat of a habit for him, the made a quite yet audible pop.

"Yeah, forget that, then," Rin concurred, placing a contemplative hand to her chin, as Nezu munched quietly on his kohakuto, "There's a water park a bus ride away, a museum dedicated to the very first heroes not far from here...Or we could transform and go to the Nogi shrine, where the Taisha will probably worship us!"

Nezu crossed his paws, at that. The fairy was completey blind, but if he could, he would've glared at Rin.

"I was kidding about that last one," Rin scoffed, "But yeah, we are, as heroes, worshipped by the Taisha. We may be subordinate to them as heroes, but since we have been granted the powers of the gods, we are worshipped by them, and treated as living gods."

"We can still go to the festival. Just because of an uncomfortable piece of clothing, it wouldn't stop me from going." Maria said, trying to enlighten the other two.

The festival seemed like a good idea anyways. She loved festivals, and Mary was sure the fun would make her forget about the uncomfortable feeling anyways.

"You'll love the one in this area," Rin said proudly, "There's all sorts going on at our summer festivals. Goldfish-scooping, a massive firework display, kakigori that's as big as your head...Ooh, I'm craving takoyaki, and candy apples already! And this year, I'm finally gonna win at the shooting game!"

"Don't count on it." Maria said jokingly, as she bragged about her archery range.

It was only a joke, so Mary hoped Rin didn't take it the wrong way. She seemed to take everything quite seriously.

"I always enjoy the shooting games." Yosuki said. "But how good I am depends on whether they give us BB Guns or cork guns." He flashed back to the time he and his friend won the grand prize at a festival.

"I think it's just cork guns around here," Rin explained, "And most of the prizes are...Kinda weird. At the Tanabata festival, I wanted to win a giant cinnamoroll plushie, but I ended up with a corn potage flavoured ice lolly. Nezu seemed to like it, though, so I can't complain!"

Nezu's ears perked up at the mention of corn potage ice lollies. He had such strange tastes, not that Rin minded. He seemed to love all of the foods she hated, which made feeding him quite easy, even if, as a godly creature, he technically didn't need to eat.
