Amari looked around to see the boy from earlier, the one that Sagisō had thrown her armband at. Amari was a little less than thrilled to see him here, and even less so when Sagisō mentioned that last part. She had been able to befriend Kiro, but she knew next to nothing about this guy besides his name. She was also a little upset because this likely meant her alone time with Sagisō had come to an end. It was no big deal though, they'd have the entire trip back to Nadeshiko to themselves. "A husband candidate huh Yizhen? He must be pretty strong to have beaten you. It's nice to meet you Katsuo, I'm Amari.

"Mmmm, yea, he's pretty good."

The shuffle of dirt betrayed the subtle shifts in Sagisō's weight; her lips glisten and her pupils had become focused. Every assessment would indicate that Sagisō was raring to verify Amari's deductions about Katsuo's skill. Her blood quickened in her veins and despite the chill, she was aboil with anticipation that peaked into the open air, punctuating her voice with predatory anticipation.

Today had been rather eventful with bouts against Zaku, which were cut short, and one against Kiro, which had been far more satisfying. If she could get a fight in here and now...

“A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Amari.” Katsuo piped up, giving the new acquaintance a small bow of respect, before turning to Sagiso whilst crossing his arms.

“Do you think Lord Fourth would approve of such an act? He may not hold much significance to you, but he means a lot to those around here. I’d assume someone of your caliber could respect that.”

"Yondaime...I'd kind of want to fight him."

The tension in Sagisō's body loosened as Katsuo brought up the topic of respect and the legendary fourth Hokage. Despite her more reserved upbringing, even Sagisō had heard of the fourth's repute, and while she'd never gotten the chance to meet the man or even see him in action, she held no doubt he lived up to his reputation. His strength was something the Nadeshiko could respect, though it was hardly something that had factored into her decision prior to her trip.

"I didn't think of that, though I suppose you have a point. I'd heard he had fallen during the last invasion...Shaqing, help me make a Crimson Star; I think he'd deserve it."

A kunai appeared within Sagiso's hand, and she swiped it across her palm. She grimaced only slightly as she squeezed fresh blood onto the ground. When a small puddle had been formed, she took a step back and began wrapping up her arm. Now, she only needed to await Amari, who would set the puddle of her blood ablaze, allowing the vapors to rise in tribute and form a crimson star.

Sakura had to admit, in the wake of all the insanity she had been through lately...the invasion, the frantic island hope and battles for Jinchuriki, and the drama with the recent Oto "guests" it had been nice to just enjoy a break from it all and take in the festival in full. To just live and breath a little which the fireworks helped to clear her mind of what had been nagging stress to this point.

Kou's wonder and excitement over it also helped. In spite of everything, he was a good kid and really it had just been refreshing to enjoy her time out with him and her friends.

"Yeah, it was great." Sakura said, smiling as she had to admit the puppet show while something she figured she was "too old" to enjoy had this charm to it and was quite the entertaining display.

Ino herself seemed to enjoy the display as she was with Sakura's group, though her mind lingered back to the little tournament. Sakura and herself had gotten matched up and Sakura managed to beat her with ease. This, combined with the fact that she failed to make it past the second exam while Sakura had made it beyond caused her to consider her own growth or the lack thereof.

But, that was another matter. For now she simply was to enjoy the festival, she would not let her rival cling this far ahead for long.

Takato in turn watched, and while his expression betrayed nothing this was a bit more relaxing than per usual and even with that little tournament he had been dragged to enter he had to admit this was not a bad way to end the day. Really the most eventful thing was during a match when Mittens ran out on the field worried Takato was gonna get hurt which had only made it more annoying. Speaking of Mittens however, while in aww by the pretty lights that seemed to flash in the sky seemingly just beyond her paw's reach and cuddled by Takato, had been said as her new friend seemed to distance himself from her. She glanced longingly at Kou's "brother", maybe someday he'd let her play with him again.

Akihiko in kind had to admit the day was one of ups and down, the grand cook off provided many yummy samples for him to enjoy and he had been overjoyed to see Ino present; his object of affection since the academy days. And he had dedicated his performance in the little tournament to her as he desired to impress her, but his early exit caused that to sour. Though the fireworks worked as a way to get his mind off that shortcoming.

A ways away from the group, Tayuya had wandered the streets alone. She only paused to pay the firworks a look, in truth Tayuya was in aww of them even if she'd rather not mention it. It had been something stupid to gawk at, even if she herself had never seen something like this not back in her old home or Oto. This festival was a whole bunch of awkward, that damned duet with Sagiso which while she had a chance to play her flute and the crowd seemed...no the whole thing was just dumb! Least once that pill was swallowed, she was able to just watch people fight in a meaningless tournament to give her a chance to scout and hey any chance she had to see certain faces get punched in was worth it. The events seemed of cheese and that puppet show was just nonsense, so why in spite of all this did she feel somewhat at peace as she gazed upon the fireworks?

"You know, it isn't a crime to admit you are enjoying yourself."

Tayuya's thoughts had been interrupted as she glanced up and saw that curious Hyuga member Zino who sat on the roof of a building as he seemed to enjoy the fireworks. How did this guy keep bumping into her? Regardless Tayuya scoffed at his comment as she folded her arms over her chest.

"Oh great, a personal stalker. Just what I needed today, though for someone who can't seem to keep their eyes off me you are bad at getting a read. This whole thing is dumb, why should I care about some celebration of an enemy?" Tayuya said, as she turned to rest on a railing though her eyes seemed almost transfixed on the fireworks as Zino jumped down and moved beside her as he had not paid her a side glance though soon spoke up once more.

"Funny, you seem to have your eyes glued to these fireworks. And in spite of everything, when I saw you perform...you seemed to be having some fun with it. I won't pretend to know a thing about you, but if you are enjoying yourself there is no reason to try and deny it. Least of all to yourself." Zino said, and Tayuya for once kept silent. Perhaps she figured it was not worth the energy to debate this, maybe the day's events caught up with her and she wanted to avoid expending more energy.

And maybe, perhaps just maybe, in some deep part of her mind, she wanted to avoid admitting he may have been onto something. But that would be absurd, just absurd...

Hidden deep in the Land of Earth, at the foot of a mountain ridge, lies a barren wasteland. Not many people would go here, unless they were desperate. Bandits, lost travellers, people who had nowhere to go ended up here, but not many came back. No life appears to be around, except for very stubborn weeds. But for those with sharp eyes and ears, there is life all around in places less obvious, the skies and the ground have their fair share of inhabitants that made the Uterne Lands their home. One of these inhabitants is the hawk, who breeds in the mountain range and hunts in the Uterne Lands. These hawks are known for their sharp eyes, their sense of smell, their perseverance and their history of being ninja summons.

Liumaru appeared at the mountain ridge in a puff of smoke, rustling his feathers. "Wassup birds of a feather? I'm back!" The hawk cried out as two hawks stared him down.

"Nice to see you too Liumaru, what were you needed for?" A large hawk with black feathers, a white underside, a short wide tail fan and a hooked beak asked the returning animal.

"Ol' Iwao needed me to track some vigilante, found em but they ditched in what appeared to be thin air. Found a dagger that was lodged in the leg of my target though and brought that back." Liumaru reported to his superiors, seemingly proud of his latest mission.

The large osprey didn't seem to share that sentiment however. "And you didn't smell them after they left? Eyesight is important, but not everything. Use your other senses too, or else you'll fail many hunts and missions. Keep training."

The second bird, a red-tailed hawk, gazed upon the young hawk with curiosity. "How was Iwao? Is he doing well? He always forgets to take care of himself."

Liumaru waved a wing at the red-tailed hawk. "Rock Man is doing fine, he's hanging out with his wife and kid and are about to celebrate Christmas with friends of his kid. Don't you worry Akahima, he'll live. He's tough y'know? Always thought he'd soften up as he settled in the role of a father."

"That shows that a lot of things turn out differently than expected, so you should prepare for them. Get to training." The osprey ordered the young hawk, who in return squawked in disagreement before flying off to train to become a better summon.

"He's got potential, but he is arrogant. What will become of that kid?" The osprey sighed as he shaked his head.

"I'm sure he'll be an amazing summon Onoro, just give it time. Once he grows older, he'll mellow out."

-------------------

"Sachiko, where's Taji? I don't see her around." Daichi Kuramoto asked his wife as he placed the newspaper down on the kitchen table. "I thought she was going to compete in the Chunin Exams, for that she needs to train."

"I think she might be with her friends, she seemed to be quite close with them from what I've heard." Sachiko took a sip from her tea as Daichi turned a page of his newspaper.

"She better return soon, I don't want her to fail in front of every important person across the countries." The father grumbled.

"Oh, don't be so negative. She's having fun, let her relax every once in a while. She finally made some friends, isn't that great?"

"Hmph, as long as those friends don't interfere with her training."

Kou was instantly captivated by the fireworks, his eyes growing larger and he clapped his hands together. They were always pretty, his favorite thing about being here in Kohona. While he wasn’t able to attend the festival as a younger boy, he could at least see the famed firework show.

It reminded him of how far he’s come in such a short time. Less that a few months ago, he was out on the streets, picking up scraps and stealing from anyone with pocket money. Now he had a home, an older brother, a rat mamma, rock queen, Sakura, and Boss-

Boss.

Boss...

The rat watched as Kou’s head hung lower, tugging his hair. Kou looked to his brother, cupping in his hands and whispering.

“Go find boss please, I need to see him.”

The rat nodded, putting the feather from Kou’s hair in his tail, scampering off into the busy streets.

Bobo pushed up against Raiku, it’s empty eyes staring up at him, unyielding. It had not grown tired of following Raiku, but instead persisted by his side...rather invasively. As Raiku took a seat, Bobo stepped up, his feet rising onto an unseen object. But it was enough to have a foothold to stand on, like he was standing on air.

Now at eye level with Raiku, Bobo traced his every crevice and crater, from his bandanna to his shoes. It seemed like Bobo was outright studying him.

"Phew."

Beneath the mellow-colored sky, Furijia watched the shifting hues of her dress, dyed in the soft oranges of paper lanterns and the shadowy silhouettes of passersby. With her mother's retreat to the sanctum of the Hyūga Clan, the young heiress had become the public face of the Clan, something she still had mixed feelings on.

She'd managed to cope somewhat with the mounting, figurative pressure by shedding a few layers of her jūnihitoe and a few layers of literal pressure. Despite the cold, her formal gown had been hot and stuffy beneath its many layers. The crisp, chilly air refreshed her and for the time being, she could accomplish what was required of her.

The details of her duty were fuzzy, but as far as Furījia understood her presence was what mattered rather than her decision making. So far she'd done menial, but nevertheless quite important, tasks. She'd traded pleasantries with the winners of the various tournaments and bestowed upon them their accolades; she'd had her own mini-banquets of sorts, speaking a few words with the heirs of the Taketori and Kohinata Clans, both of which were proxy beneficiaries of the festival and had contributed greatly to its success— but mostly, her duties were summed up as flapping her lips; smiling in approval or frowning in disapproval, speaking praises or whispering rebukes.

Now that she was alone —notwithstanding the escorts who flanked her— the social facade she'd been required to wear had vanished. She wore a tired, but self-satisfied smile and admired the carefree bliss of the crowd.

Amari was surprised by her sister's reaction, to Katsuo's remark as the Crimson Star was a great sign of respect. Amari had heard of the yellow flash of the leaf through name alone, but knew next to nothing about him. That said, this was obviously important to Sagisō, so she didn't hesitate to produce the flames necessary to set the blood ablaze. "Nadeshiko Style: White jasmine flame" She produced one flaming flower to set her sister's blood ablaze. Maybe it was a bit overkill to use the white jasmine flame, but she held any Crimson Star in high regard and thought it deserved a flame fitting of the person it was meant for.

Katsuo watched on with both skepticism and fascination, allowing the ceremony to pass in silence.
The blood ignited with surprising ease, quickly vaporizing into a thick mist that swirled and mixed before finally forming a crimson star.

The boy allowed his chakra to flow out, generating a thin, passive bubble just a few feet in diameters around him. Utilizing his Ikeda Clan Kekkei Genkai, he remotely held a connection to the bubble, essentially using it to feel/examine the chakra control involved in such a ritual.

“A ceremony of your people, I’d assume. I find it...intriguing.” And that he did. One of the very reason’s Katsuo began traveling was to explore the cultural differences of others.
The boy definitely wouldn’t voice it allowed, but he was fascinated by the whole prospect.

"My people..."

Sagisō lingered on that phrase for an instant, muttering to herself imperceptibly. Katsuo certainly hadn't been wrong to word it as such; but, she had mixed feelings on the unspoken boundaries of segregation. She thought back to her months in the Hyūga Clan. The sense of community her mother strove to foster did seem distinctly different from what she'd observed in the rest of the village. The public bathhouses, close living quarters, and dining hall, they were all designed to facilitate intimate relationships between clan members. They all fed into the commune —the ethos of the clan. Sagisō had observed as her mother settled disputes while breaking bread and give counsel amidst the comfort of a hot bath. Her softness then in those times often contrasted her relentless strictness, it was almost contradictory.

She had not understood it when she first arrived, but she could now visualize the Taiji the diagram of Yin and Yang beneath her, divided from the void of Wuji, the whole, and expanding into the Bagua, the eight trigrams. Though that was her limit. She could understand how her Mother's strictness was complemented by her compliance; drive forward with hardness, yet comfort with softness. However, she was still contemplating the eight trigrams, their practical applications and how her mother applied them to her rulings, and for now, she didn't even bother to consider the expanded hexagrams.

Yet though her philosophy was yet budding and there were many concepts she did not understand, she had no trouble understanding her relations with people. Sighing, she briefly activated her Byakugan. After a moment, her eyes returned to their vibrant hue.

"Do you not have something similar? A ceremony that respects your fallen warriors?"

It was apparent that Katsuo’s statement had gotten a subtle response from Sagiso. What could it have been? Did she miss her home? Did she dislike his assumption? All guesses of uncertainty. Not that it mattered now, what’s done is done.

“My people?” The young Traveler-Nin focused his attention on the question for a moment, his mind somewhat troubled by deciding how he should word such a reply.

“Let’s hope you never have to see our ‘ceremony’ in this life.” The ash haired boy finally replied, immediately shifting the attention back onto Sagiso and Ms. Amari.

“So...are you going home? I wanna spar with you some more, so I’d hope not.” This was certainly a more personal question than Katsuo would typically ask. Even though most may find it simple and insignificant, this particular young man wasn’t what most would call a ‘social butterfly’.

Gruesome and Repulsive, Sagisō decided. That must've been what their ceremony looked like if it was so horrid not even the sight of it would be wished upon another. That hardly sounded like any way to treat their dead but Sagisō wasn't going to judge...harshly. She curled her lips in disgust but opted to move on.

"Yes, we'll be leaving tomorrow. As early as circumstances allow. Though, if its a spar you won't we don't mind entertaining you. How about three-way free-for-all? Or were you perhaps looking for a more specific challenge~?"

========================

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 1 Corinthians 13:11

With naught but time on her hands, the Hyūga heiress allowed her mind to wonder. It wandered through the corridors of her memory, a labyrinth of experiences and sensations, constantly being updated in real-time. Though outwardly she appeared absent-minded, Furījia had instead become self-absorbed, entering a deeper state of reflection and introspection. Unknowingly she'd begun to hum a steady tune, it was a song she hardly knew and it showed; the tune was off-beat and its stanza chopped and broken, missing entire segments.

Whenever you cry
Just count your blessings
Every time you try
Learn something, believe yourself

We are alive in this world
Life is sometimes unfair
We keep going in this world

Why do you sigh?
Just count your blessings
Every time you try
Find something, believe yourself

My mission, I've got to execute
I know it's not a game anymore
I swear that I'll never fail again
'Cuz don't wanna regret anymore

You look comfortable disguising yourself
Must be satisfied with becoming somebody else

The song appealed to her; a bitter-sweet, but nevertheless true, tenets. Ones that the Hyūga heiress had been trying to live by ever since she'd heard them, mishappen tunes straight from the lips of her sister. Though, she would expect no less from Sagisō. Her elder sister was hardy, hardier than she herself had ever been. In light of the song though, it made sense.

Do away with self-pity as resignation, replace them with optimism and grit. She needed to learn from her failures, and count her blessings rather than her curses. The world was unfair, cruelly so, and yet, what was she to do? She was still alive, and that meant that so long as life still pumped through her veins, and her heart still beat in her chest, the tribulations of life were hers to bear. No matter how bad it was, she needed to keep going. Her mission would be hard, but it needed to be done, and it was her duty, nay, her destiny, to see it so. And if that meant changing who she was, then so be it. She would become the person she needed to be to see her clan ruled the way it should be.

Flashes of her last lesson with her mother came to her, the peaceful bandit village and its blood-soaked streets. The callousness in the voice of the stranger her mother had become. It still shook her to the day, that the same hands that had loving fed her and the same tender voice which had once lulled her to sleep, could also scythe down hundreds of lives likes stalks of wheat. But...that was reality, and a reality she needed to swallow. The job she'd been groomed to take was a merciless one, it would require cold callousness and resourcefulness. There could be no hesitation to wield the powers she observed, it was inevitable that sometimes evil was needed to fend off oblivion.

"The cost of leadership is self-interest..."

Her soft words were swept up in the wind, but the adage was something she'd never understood as much as she did now. Perhaps it was more appropriate to say the cost of leadership is self-sacrifice. It was the hallmark of all great leaders and many of them landed closer to home than the heiress had ever realized. Now that she thought about it, who were the greatest of the Hokage? It had always been considered the Third and the Fourth, those who'd given so much for the safety of the village. The Fourth had sacrificed his wife and son, while the Third had given his very life. Who were the most legendary of shinobi? Was it not the jinchuriki? Those whose name meant Power of Self-Sacrifice? Did she need any more to convince herself? To give one's life, one's self, one's everything, for the sake of village and clan. That was a great leader.

That was what as right; that was what was expected of them; that was what was expected of her...

The greatest trait of a leader was not their wisdom nor their intellect, nor was it even their mighty strength. It was instead their willingness to sacrifice...and Furījia was willing.

If 'Furījia' could not bring her clan to glory, then she would gladly give her up and become someone else.

To give her 'self' for the sake of the Clan. That was what she'd been born and schooled to do.

First, I will do everything I can to kill Yatorishino. I'll rip apart her soul, grind it to powder, and throw that powder on the flame so that she'll never come back to life. After everything is done, the one remaining, Igsem, will kill you.

—Yatorishino Igsem on what she'll do when forced to kill her dearest friend.

Seiun felt his face bristle at the feeling of B.O.S.E.C's talon tap his forehead. Directing his eyes upward, he gazed at the seal that B.O.S.E.C was referring to, the intentions of the construct were clear.

So...you really plan on breaking me out huh?

This caused the rogue-nin to give a light chuckle. That chuckle soon evolved into a laugh, a laugh that became more and more maniacal, a laugh that would've caused him to roll on the floor had he not been put in a pillory. Eventually, he managed to regain his composure.

Do you really think that this plan of yours would work?! Firstly, I'd either have to contort my hand in a way it doesn't bend to touch the seal, or you'd have to get the sword yourself, which would raise the suspicion of any person with a pulse! And even if that wasn't the case, I'd have to then find a way to escape which would be pretty much impossible with guards watching this area like vultures on drugs. This is coupled with the fact that I have yet another magic seal on me that binds me to Tsuki, so the Yuki could easily track me no matter where I go! The worst part is this isn't the only one of your plans like this, every plan you've had so far has way to many moving parts that are way to dependent on circumstances out of our control.

Seiun let out a huge sigh after his rant, for he decided that he resigned himself to the circumstances at hand.

There's no saving me now...

As Kou's brother left to go investigate, Mittens the kitten gazed upon the friend amid the fireworks as she quickly became concerned. With so many people about and those explosive flashes in the sky, the little guy had risk of getting injured in the mess.

No, she had to protect her would be friend!

The kitten would wiggly its way out of Takato's arms as the latter paused from his fireworks observation just as the kitten slipped out of his loose grasp and instantly she began to follow the little rodent.

Oh, that's just what I needed today...

Takato naturally moved to try and catch his runaway kitten, as Sakura noticed this as she had not been sure if she was seeing things or not as she stared with a dumbfounded expression.

Amari saw where this would lead if she let it continue any further. It would lead to a fight between Sagisō and her target who she was itching to fight against, Katsuo. She also knew what a fight could do for Sagisō so she decided not to give Katsuo the chance to make it any further than he already was in her mind. "A three-way free-for-all fight sounds perfect, no reason you two should have to fight alone when there are three of us. I've been needing a spar after missing the tournament earlier today anyway."

Our handsome rodent warrior had boldly accepted the quest to find his brother’s superior, trapped inside a foreign nation’s prison. A daring venture to be sure, but not one that couldn’t be handled by the one and only rat samurai himself. But things would prove not as easy as once thought, as a certain pounding of the ground was heard...

*THUD* *THUD* *THUD!*

The sounds echoed near from behind. He only knew one creature that could make such an alarming sound and pace toward him. Domus Cattus, or as they were more commonly referred to: House Cat. Just then, time seemed to have come to a standstill, all colors washing out in an exchange for an inky painting style interpretation of the scene.

逃れる!

| Escape! |

As the colors and time flow returned to normal, the Chase was on! The rodent warrior sped up his pace, his ear flopping loosely as he scampered to lose the enormous feline. He had to somehow prevent this cat from finding him in this crowded street...surely there must be a way.

And like a gift sent from the heavens themselves, there was a supply cart filled with crates, bowls, potatoes, and...flour! The rat samurai gleaned, jumping onto the man pulled cart, unsheathing his worthy feather sword. He stabbed into the bag with the sharp end of the feather, pulling it out as the flour poured in a steady stream from the bag. As the cat closed in, he flipped the feather around to the poofy end and...

*FWOOSH!*

He kicked up a dust of flower, shrouding his escape. An ingenious maneuver that will go down in rat history! Satisfied with this maneuver, he took the advtage while he had it, rushing off in the direction of nearby buildings, rushing up the gutter system, sheathing his trust feather sword.

Today was monumental for her, and in more ways than one. Today she'd done her duty without falter, without hesitation, without tears, without failure; she'd concealed daggers with smiles, and spat words calling for wind and summoning rain; thrown around the weight of Clan and prestige. And though she was content, she was not proud. She felt more like a bully than anything else, but her personal feelings did not change the necessity of her actions.

The opulence festival display had to be paid for from someone’s pocket. Each morsel of food and minute of enjoyment had a cost and a hefty one. Erring on the side of caution, her mother had leveraged the Hyūga’s connection to the Taketori and Kohinata Clans, drawing upon the combined finances and manpower of the three clans to achieve this feat. Needless to say the two other clans had come to discuss recoupment and the reimbursement of their losses.

Furījia had attended that meeting in lieu of her mother’s absence. She wasn’t unfamiliar with the setting having accompanied Hinagiku on such trips before, but this had been her first time being the decision-maker, so to speak, and she couldn’t help but wonder. Did I make the right choice?

These had been testy times and doubts were in abundance. The Taketori, in particular, had cast their doubts on the Hyūga’s ability to reimburse them in a timely fashion, a sentiment Furījia neither confirmed nor denied. She was aware of her mother’s intent to launch a money-making project, but uncertain as the future was, insurances were not hers to give. Instead, she’d leverage the Hyūga’s prestige as a blockade and hoisted friendly relations hostage.

She surmised—and did so correctly—that the Taketori would be unwilling to end years of profitable relations over the matter because the Hyūga tender care of their prestige was an unspoken guarantor. The Hyūga Clan would no doubt pay them back to maintain their meticulously crafted image, and so they reluctantly postponed the discussion.

As for the Kohinata Clan, they had been handled directly. The little-known Clan was an off-shoot of the Hyūga whose bloodline ran thick enough in the former that the Byakugan sometimes manifested in their members. The Hyūga’s ardent and strict maintenance of their bloodline was renown, so the fact that the Kohinata still existed as more than a puppet-state was...something even Furījia herself was confused about, but nevertheless, she’d assured the Kohinata clan that the issue could be rectified. Of course, in words far more subtle.

Each decision had twisted vilely in her gut; each an infraction of her own moral compass. She wondered if this was what it felt like to be Clan Leader, to be vilified for the sake of good. It sure did seem that way.

The Wicked Eye of the Uchiha, Manipulative Witch of the Hyūga, Mad Dog of the Inuzuka...which of those wasn’t derogatory in some sense?

Furījia sighed. “So that is my future…”

The pure white clouds that formed on her breath seemed to mock her as they dissipated into the cold, dark of the falling night. They gave way to the invisible clouds of ennui that had gathered over her heart.

As Mittens tried to close the distance on her would be friend, her longer stride had allowed her to gain ground even with the rat's head start, its paws moved closer and closer as her look of concerned only increased when it saw the rat jump up to the cart that seemed to have these odd stack of squares.

Oh no! What if one of the humans had been unaware of the little guy on board the strange bed with wheels and he ended up being crushed by the stack of squares!? What if he was tossed off unaware and went splaty on the ground!? What if the bumpy ride he tried to hitch on caused its little tummy to get sick!? No matter what she needed to make sure he was safe and sound so she'd follow where he'd go as she worked to quickly try to get on the cart fast as her paws could take her.

"Alright don't want to upset the folks losing the gift on the first day, so here kitty." Takato said, naturally he had found this whole thing to be bothersome, and it had been about to get worse as when the rat popped open the box and flower spilled out as Mittens displayed some surprisingly agility as she jumped over it to the side of the cart while the flower spilled as Takato just stopped before it spilled over him. However...

"HEY! What did you do to my cargo you brat!?"

...needless to say when the owner heard the sound of flower spill he stopped dead in his tracks as he glanced back at Takato and presumed his guilt as the latter had momentary wide eyes before he sighed out.

Of course, of fucking course...

Mittens in turn jumped after the small rat friend to be as she saw him race towards the gutter system, Mittens worried he may get cramped or even rush through some poo poo as she had to keep her friend clean! Mittens tried to gently slam her paw on his tail as she worked to try and stop his momentum so she could bring him in safe and sound.

Taiyo
Now that he wasn't doing double duty as his little sister's babysitter(a position he did enjoy), he was able to focus solely on having fun with his friends. The only problem with that was trying to find them, which proved to be a surprising daunting task. Eventually, Taiyo got hungry, which wasn't surprising given the fact that all the walking he was doing was causing his metabolism to get worked up. Fortunately, it seemed that he would be able to fulfil two objectives: meeting up with friends and grabbing a bite to eat. Within his eyesight, the Leaf-nin noticed what seemed to be Raiku and Kiro enjoying a meal at a ramen stand, and while he wasn't the biggest fan of noodles, he was willing to eat practically anything if it meant spending time with friends. As he sauntered over to the ramen place, he noticed that creepy kid from before breathing down Raiku's neck.

Oh hell no...

"Hey man," Taiyo cheerfully greeted Raiku as the latter ate, "Is this guy...giving you trouble?" He gestured Bobo as he asked the question and delivered the creepy child a death glare to accompany his question.

The rodent warrior had believed he lost the ferocious feline with his clever flour trick. As he had scampered toward the gutters, he was suddenly stomped in his tracks. His legs and arms flew into the air for a second as he fell to the ground. The rodent samurai shook his head...what could have stopped him? And why did his tail hurt?

He looked back to see a horrifying sight. The carnivorous cat had returned! The white power along it’s face didn’t seem to delay him much...and standard weaponry couldn’t pierce it’s hide. How could he get out of this one? What method would be...wait. Standard weapons of attack wouldn’t work...but what if he didn’t attack?

Looking at his weapon of choice...a feather. He didn’t need to slay the beast...but get away. Taking the fluffy end of the feather he raised it to the cat’s nose...before wiping it across is several times. If he were lucky, the cat may sneeze and he could use that to escape into the night.

“A free for all? Between us three? Where do you suppose such a battle would take place? We couldn’t do it here.” Katsuo wanted the challenge, for sure...but seeing what Sagiso and Amari had been up to prior to his arrival, it would be wise to move the group away from anything breakable.

“I think I know a spot. But if you wanna fight, you gotta catch me first. Ready...start.”

~Poof~

And with a small puff of smoke, Katsuo was gone, disappearing into the city.
The Body Flicker-simple yet annoying. Hell, some may say all of the Traveler-Nin’s techniques follow that guide. But that’s exactly how he liked it.

With the Byakugan inactive, it’ll take them a couple of minutes to figure out which direction I went.” Katsuo gave a small smirk as he nestled into the crowd, masking his chakra behind a medley of others.

“Come and get it...”

Mittens meowed as she had been relieved that she caught up with her little would be friend, thankfully she managed to get his tail before he had a chance to slip where filth or possible pain could have come to it. Mittens worked to try and gently pull on the rat as she aimed to try and pick him up so she could bring him to his owner safe and sound, but had run into a complication.

Namely, the fluffy feather. The cute little token of their playing, which had been turned to her sensitive nose.

Naturally, it twitched on reflex as the kitten struggled to keep her paw in place. Oh nos! If it let go her little friend had the chance to flee somewhere dangerous, but this feather was so fluffy and so ticklish! This was a struggle as the cute kitten adorably struggled against this "attack" but before the inevitable sneeze came a pink-haired savior arrived on the scene.

"Not sure what these two or Takato did to the cart, but I should bring you two back before you get lost." Sakura mused as she aimed to pick up Mittens and the rat gently with one hand each as the kunoichi if successful would work to bring them back to Kou and the others.

An opening...!

As the cat wavered for the fleeting second, it was all the rodent samurai required to escape under the paw. With the few seconds of confusion he had obtained, he Lept out of the way of sakura’s hands and into the gutters. Seeing a gnawhole in the side of the building, he wormed his way inside...and out of sight. Kou saw the tail end of this event, giving a sigh of relief before scratching the back of his head sheepishly.

“Ha...don’t worry about it. I’m sure he’ll be back eventually.”

He tried his best not to sound suspicious, as much as it killed him to lie to someone who had been so kind to him. He needed to find Boss, weather Sakura was gonna help him or not. He had to...he owed him that much.

..........

The night came to a close. From fireworks, shows, gift exchanges, a certain creepy child mime, the surprising and the fun had happened that night. It was needed. A little escape from the reality that was the Sound terrorist attack was a nice change of pace. Dwelling on such things weren’t good for the morale of the leaf.

As the sun rose on a fresh new day...something had felt a little off. As if reality had begun to bleed through on this post-festive dawn. Soon, the war would have to be addressed again, and people would have to risk their lives protecting what they loved.

...........

*thud thud thud*

“Eh?”

...The heck is that? Zaku thought, his advanced hearing picking up the small sounds. Almost as if something...no...SOMEONE were digging. He put his ear up to the wall, trying to pinpoint the sound. That’s when a part of the wall cracked open.

It was a tiny hole, no bigger than that of a pencil. A feather point had dug the hole, as a beady pair of eyes stared back at him.

“A rat...” Zaku twitched in disgust. “A freakin’ rat got in here? Get out you little pest!”

Not the best first interaction he was having with Kou’s brother, as the rodent rolled his eyes, widening the hole to the size of a shuriken, before crawling in.

“Eck, guess you didn’t hear me. Guess I’m going to have to call the exterminator!”

Zaku gave a swift kick toward the rat, which the rat squeaked and jolted out of the way. It glared up to Zaku. Ok. Things just got personal. He needed to teach this punk a lesson before returning to Kou.

Putting his feather sword away, he cracked his knuckles. Limbering up, he gave a war cry before jumping on the wrist sound ninja. Zaku hissed , trying to shake the rat off from his arm. It refused, using it’s claws to continue up. It lept from his arm to his head, his hind legs kicking down the sound headband to cover Zaku’s eyes.

“What the hell- WHATS GOING ON?!”

Temporarily blinded, the rat jumped off Zaku, sliding down his back before landing on his legs. While Zaku lifted the headband, the rat bit down hard on Zaku’s ankle.

“Aiyaaa!!!”

The rat hopped off Zaku and ran back down the hole as Zaku fell to the ground, massaging both his ankle and his hurt pride. This...this didn’t happen.

If one thing could be taken from this: Don’t give dishonor to a Rodent Samurai

The first rays of dawn had caught Sagisō not asleep within the Hyūga mansion as it should have; but, instead it caught her sitting along the village walls where the sun, still emerging opposite the forest before her, scattered its light through the foliage, speckling her face. The Nadeshiko had been here all night, stargazing; watching as the celestial lights changed and the mounted archer gave way to the goat.

"So even the stars have aligned..." She licked her lips. "Funny."

Dallying no longer, Sagisō flipped off the wall. Shivers went down her spine, turning to twitchy tingles in her fingertips. She would've preferred a more perilous drop, but this was enough for a short rush. The ground neared and Sagisō, not actually suicidal, began to slow her descent. Within moments she'd slowed to a flutter and alighted on the ground. She gave one nostalgic look at the village before she began heading for the gates, having already decided to meet her party there yesterday.

Amari decided to spend her last night in Konoha in the room the Hyuga made available to her. She had an amazing night with her sister, but she needed rest before the long journey back home. When she went back, she would finally be third gen Nadeshiko, finally a part of the family who took her in. Once that hit her, she couldn't wait.

She got up just before the crack of dawn. She didn't get much sleep, but she didn't need it in order to feel fully refreshed rejuvenated. She dashed out of her room and out of the Hyuga mansion. She headed for the gate where her sister, and hopefully only her sister, would be waiting.

Tsuki
Yesterday was a rather different experience for the Yuki-nin. Instead of spending her night studying combat scenarios or pondering her current situation, she got to participate in an activity that was solely focused on fun. But today was a new day and it seemed to be business as usual for Tsuki. Although she wasn't ready to admit it yet, she was finding herself growing fond of having Kai in her company. Still, the Mist-nin had things to do and loneliness wasn't going to stop her. As she got ready to head out for the day, an important realization had dawned upon her

Where's Seiun?

Suddenly, Tsuki felt a mixture of both stress and guilt overtake her mind like a swarm of rabid beasts. The former due to the potential trouble that the rogue-nin could've gotten himself into and the latter because she knew that if he did get into any sort of trouble, it would be on her head. Without further hesitation, she left her room in a hurry and went out into the town to look for her lost slave.

Seiun
Yet another day had passed where the former Ame-nin had nothing to do but to reflect on his actions. Seiun was feeling fully resigned into the poor situation he found himself into, yet he attempted to sort things out with B.O.S.E.C.

Listen, I know that we've had our disagreements lately, but that doesn't matter right now. At the end of the day, we're still trapped here, and options for escape are looking slim. If you have a plan or maybe even some magical seal magic that can get us a clean escape, I'm all for it.

Yesterday's meeting had gone well enough as far as the Mizukage had been concerned. Mei had made far more progress than she had imagined would have been made, and she hoped for similar results today. The meeting would be reconvened, this time with the light of new information promised by the Yuki. However, all that would be later. Right now, though, she had a few more things to do.

First and foremost, that eyesore in the middle of the village was ruining the mood. The captured Amenin would be sent back to the Yuki along with requisite documents, fees, etc. to be paid. In fact, the issue was, that a person should even be put into such a situation in her village was by itself, quite disconcerting. Laws would need to be revised. Despite her favoring of the harsher R, revoked, she hadn't the time to play footsie with the Clans over that.

For now, she would draft up some basic zoning laws...in fact, while she was at it, it might be prudent to expand the document to implement better levels of organization. The Mist was way behind its contemporaries on the simplest of matters. To this day they still didn't even know how many shinobi occupied the village as they'd never implemented shinobi registration numbers. That would need to change.

Theoretically, the best approach would be to section the village into 4 slices, each under the delegated management of a Clan. The Clan would then steward that section of the village while sending whatever reports were needed upward to the Kage mansion who would then have a comprehensive overview of the village's affairs. Though, that required she trust the Clans enough to provide truthful and impactful reports...

Smaller steps would serve her best, she decided. The only things she would start today were the simple zoning laws and the implementation of shinobi registration.

That would handle village administration; now, her focus could be shifted to more personal matters. The Merchant group she'd created several months ago was developing well, but it was time to begin the conversion of power; she would make good usage of her gathered wealth and turn it into something more utilizable. She would create an impromptu net of social welfare which would be drawn from her own personal funds and holdings. Those displaced by damages to the village would be redistributed into the residencies she'd 'confiscated' earlier in the year. The village was also likely to face a food shortage in the near future as the Black Rain would've rendered anything it touched inedible. It was too late to save any of the winter's harvest, so food would need to be imported.

The process would need to be streamlined, however, so Mei planned to acquire an island off the Mist's coast and then utilize it as a trading hub. In the short run, it would allow her to speed up the import of resources desperately needed to stabilize the population. In the long-term, a trade hub would pay for itself once she opened its usage to merchant ships and caravans moving between the Mist and the mainland.

It wouldn't be wise to make any more critical decision before her upcoming meeting, so Mei opted to implement what she'd already mulled over. She called Chino to deal with the matters of the Merchant group and reminded her to keep things discrete. That only left administrative paper-work...

Mei released a sigh and slouched over her desk, then she began to write.

  • Seiun sent back to the Yuki along with whatever fees were to be paid or documents to be filled out.
  • Shinobi Registration being implemented in the Mist because they didn't have one prior.
  • Zoning laws being drafted in the Mist; will be brought up in the upcoming meeting.
  • A trading hub will be established on an island off the Mist's coast.
    • Food and Resources will be important to preempt a crisis.
  • Impromptu Social Welfare system implemented using Mei's personal funds.

Like usual, Kiro was awake quite early in the morning, outside on the cool training grounds. The frigid temperatures weren’t enough to deter him from going through his routines. This weather wasn’t much different than the freezing cold nights he had to endure, with only shorts on, during the eight tails mission. Had Kiro not known how to correctly superheat chakra, he would’ve certainly frozen to death.

While the Hyūga clan had a noticeably festive atmosphere the day before, today was a bit different. The gossip about the Head of the Hyūga going on leave starting today seemed to have been accurate. Strangely, Kiro had found himself somewhat conflicted in the woman’s departure. On one hand, this had been a moment he had been waiting on for what felt like an eternity. The woman Kiro perhaps most feared, but equally respected, was finally about to take her leave. Gone with her would be the certainty that an escape from this village was impossible. For once, Kiro could see an opportunity to escape these grounds.

Yet, another part of Kiro wondered if her departure was actually beneficial to him. The following nights after his imprisonment, Kiro had been lost inside of a deep, nightmarish slumber. To this very day, he still cursed the eyes of the Uchiha who banished him to that hell. Unfortunately, those first few nights after his awakening had been restless ones as well. It was hard to comprehend how and why he had ended up here at such a tempestuous time for him. Instead of a four walled chamber with only the last flickers of a dying light to keep him company, Kiro had found himself in a garden of vibrant blossoms basking in the radiant light of the sun.

An array of noble flowers lay around him. Most of their petals were a shade of white. However, only one of them stood out to him over the others. The pure flower of faith that watched over the rest like a mother would. Gifted to those on the verge of a transformation. Its yellow center being a reminder to take an interest in new surroundings and find a way to accept new developments. This flower which closed it’s petals each night and opened them up every morning. Signaling the dawn of a new day and a new beginning. It was the ‘day’s eye’. Also known as a daisy.

Trapped within this modest and elegant batch was a certain lone red flower. Perhaps misplaced again by the same insufferable wind that caused the white flowers to seemingly bow before ‘the eye of day’ due to the pressure. There were three things a red flower represented. Ironically, they were each something he possessed, wanted, or lost at one point or another. Even the color red itself had an undeniable energy to it. Like a certain group of red flowers that coated an entire area of the garden the color of blood, this one displayed a similar heat and strength. Still, it continued to remain separate from the rest, in the midst of the white.

It was strange, almost blinding, to be in a place so bright and lively. Looking back on it, Kiro had been right to be skeptical towards the level of freedom he was granted. He could clearly see through the garden path and the illusion at its end. That had been a deliberate move by his captors. Now that Kiro thought about it, he never knew whose idea it was to send him to the Hyūga. Perhaps one day he could thank them for this opportunity. Though Kiro still despised his position, it was still better than sitting for months in the bed of stone and house of steel bars he’d once been offered.

“Hard to believe its only been like three months since then. Kind of feels like I’ve been here for a year or two already.”

A chilly breeze blew overhead as Kiro mumbled to himself, gazing slightly at the new toys on his wrist. It felt odd but not unexpected. After spending much time outside, he had become used to the light howling from the wind. Sometimes it would grow louder, but not too often. Maybe even less now.

With the head of the Hyūga on her way out, it was only a matter of time before things began to shake up in the village. Lady Hinagiku was the head of the “strongest” clan in Konoha after all. Ripples would most definitely be felt and long awaited moves were likely to be made. Who else would be moving? He gently rubbed the left side of his neck as he thought about this. Perhaps the time for a change was today.

‘Funny considering what day it was yesterday.’

At the very least, Kiro wasn’t too certain if his position was as secure. It was something to ask about, among other things. Recently, the woman had assisted him with his chakra points so Kiro felt less uneasy about asking her something else. Though, she was probably busy dealing with more important things around the clan and he wasn’t really the type to interrupt anything. Maybe Kiro could catch her before she left.

B.O.S.E.C. Emerged from Seiun, a crescent shaped smile on it’s face. There was a glint in it’s eye, like it knew information that Seiun wasn’t privy to.

"Today it's finally official..."

Sagisō started the conversation offhandedly, she had begun with the topic she knew weighed most on both their minds. She had felt as Amari approached and she turned to face her sister; a crafty smile revealed on her lips.

"I've been thinking of changing my name, I mean Yizhen, of course. I like the current one but...I want to make it a little more me. So I've been thinking and playing around with the idea and the name I'm leaning towards is Xia Roulan. Xia for rosy clouds and Roulan for like an orchid. Do you think it fits? Is it too much of a mouthful?"

The new name did fit a bit more closely than the old one and its characters could be interpreted in many ways, the most obvious of which drew the connection between the orchid themes of both her courtesy and real name.

And so, the trivial game of cat and mouse had come and went, with the cats managing to seek out their prey thanks to power in numbers.

Katsuo intended to keep his word, and take the two on in a sparring match. Unfortunately, it was revealed that they would be leaving the village soon, and needed to make preparations to do so.

Very well. If Katsuo were to keep his promise, he would have to go with the two Kunoichi in the morning.
The only downside? Telling his mother...

———

“Excuse me...you’re going on a trip? And who gave you permission?” Ichiko attempted to hold a calm demeanor, despite the tables shaking slightly as she spoke. After the events of these last few days, she wasn’t about to let her son risk his life going out into the world for no good reason.

“Well...ya see, I wanted to travel with these two girls who-“ And before the Traveler-Nin could finish his explanation, his mothers ‘cool exterior’ finally erupted.

“OF COURSE ITS GIRLS! NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME YOU WANNA RISK YOUR LIFE FOR A....A DOUBLE DATE?! THE ANSWER IS NOOO!” With that, the Water-Nin began storming out of the room, only to be stopped short by the voice of her husband.

“Chi, we should let him go.” Kido spoke up, his statement causing all eyes to shift onto him.

“What? What do you mean, Kido?”

“Chi...baby. Look at our son. He’s a warrior...an explorer...a learner. We can’t take that away from him. He knows the risks, and yet he’s still determined. This is his ninja way.”

“Dad...” Katsuo was stunned by his father’s words. The man had only known his son for a few short months, yet he was able to read him like a book. Indeed, Kido Denki was a highly perceptive and very intelligent Shinobi. The young Traveler-Nin admired that greatly.

“Kido...I’m sorry, I can’t let him leave. We almost lost both of them once, I won’t let it happen again...” And with that, she slid into her bedroom, not even pondering on her husbands words.

While Katsuo didn’t wanna hear this, he knew that his mother was drive by her emotions, quite unlike his father. They perfectly balanced one another in that respect.

“Sorry, Katsuo. I may be your father, but she’s been...so much more than a parent. I can’t overrule her word.” The Lightning Shinobi gave his son a pat on the back, attempting to comfort the boy as best he could.

“It’s okay Dad...I expected this.”

———

It was now pitch black in the Leaf Village, and the sun wouldn’t be rising for another hour or so, yet Katsuo was awake and about.
The young man had packed a brown sack with a few essential belongings, and had started creeping towards the entrance of the house.

Unlike most rebellious kids who snuck out, Katsuo had to be absolutely silent, as his mothers senses were incredibly advanced, even while sound asleep.
Slowly, Katsuo crept through the creeky house, molding his chakra into cushions beneath his feet in hopes of lessening their impact.

Just gotta open the door...” The Traveler-Nin attempted to reassure himself, but to no avail. Apprehensively, he grasped the door handle, holding onto it for what seemed like hours, before finally...sliding it open.

Ft~

“What was that?”
Katsuo’s ears caught wind of what sounded like metal releasing from wood. Instantly, the boy’s body went into overdrive. Not concerned with conserving energy, his chakra exploded throughout his body, causing the world around him to slow down.
His eyes darted back and forth, helplessly looking for the source of the disturbance.

Hah!” A small metallic flicker from the corner of Katsuo’s eye gave it away. He looked over to see a Senbon falling towards towards the floor. His mother had known he would attempt to leave, so she set up an alarm system only she could track. The sound of a pin dropping.

What would the boy do? His eyes were fast enough to track the senbon, yes, but his body wasn’t quick enough to catch it at this point without making noise.
There was only one solution. With a fraction of a second remaining, the boy instinctively slid his foot out, lining it up with the senbon’s trajectory. Said senbon proceeded to land point first on the boy’s toe, sinking into his flesh with ease.

Katsuo’s eyes widened from the sensation, but he didn’t dare make a noise. Without even addressing the weapon sticking out of his foot, he slid out the door, closing it with a massive sigh of relief. He’d escaped.

“...your mother will kill you when she finds out, you know~”

Once again, Katsuo froze in place. He peered over his shoulder, his eyes latching onto the outline of his father, who was seated in a rocking chair on the front porch. Katsuo had been caught.

“When...she finds out? Meaning you don’t plan to stop me?” Katsuo questioned, despite the pounding in his ears and the pain in his big toe, not quite sure what his father was getting at.

“No, I’m not gonna tell her. I love your mother, but Ichiko has let emotion cloud her judgement. You need to be out there, exploring the world. Not here, locked away like a sitting duck.” Kido spoke in that familiar smooth, all-knowing tone he always had, gently rocking the chair as he did so.

“Thanks Dad...I promise I’ll be safe. And the next time you see me, I’ll be a stronger ninja.” With that, Katsuo went to step off the front porch, only to freeze up as his father’s presence vanished, before reappearing right behind the boy.

“You might wanna take this.” Kido muttered, holding out a bright orange scroll.

“That’s...”

“Yes. The scroll containing your mother’s cauterization technique. I hope you won’t need it, but...you never know.”

Katsuo was dumbfounded. His father, a man he’d come to know as incredibly careful, was helping him sneak away. An act like this simply reinforced how perceptive the man was. Katsuo deeply appreciated how his father respected his opinions, not as a child, but as a ninja.
As unconventional as their relationship was, the young man wouldn’t have asked for a better father.

“Again...thank you, Dad.”

“You’re welcome. Now leave, your mother will be up soon and you’ll need to put as much distance between you and her as possible.”

“Right.” And with that, Katsuo disappeared into the back streets of Konaha, plucking the senbon from his foot as he did so.

“Ouch!”

———

After a few brief moments of walking, Katsuo finally reached the meetup location. The boy was still about an hour early however, so he decided scale up a nearby tree, resting on one of the higher branches.

The hour passed quickly, so quickly that the cloudy haired boy hadn’t even noticed Sagiso’s arrival, that is until Amari made her presence known as well.

“Xia, huh? What’s wrong with Sagiso?” Katsuo cut in, dropping from the tree as he did so to make it appear as if he’d effectively materialized from thin air.

The leaves rustled and whispered of a presence within the wooden folds of a tree whose branches creaked with relief as Katsuo's weight dropped off it. Sagisō's ears had perked up and the sounds that revealed Katsuo's presence were captured perfectly. To be truthful she had a very good idea of who might have chosen to drop down on their conversation. Also being truthful, that wouldn't be stopping her in the slightest.

Katsuo's appearance would be met with the 'shocked' and 'surprised' reaction that should be completely expected of a battle-hardened kunoichi. With a shallow breath, she tightened her abdominal muscles, throwing a jerky, speedy leg-sweep behind her with the twist of her waist. A devious grin appeared on her face that narrowed her eyes into crescents and pronounced veins pumped a steady flow of chakra into those eyes as she activated the Byakugan.

Although there was some delay, Sagisō's spine and torso were soon moving to catch up to her gyrated waist. As she spun around to face her adversary there was a small orb rolling between her fingers. These same fingers, however, were quickly thrust into a jabbing attack on her opponent's torso.

It was a reflex, nothing more. Katsuo didn’t even mean for it too happen, but it did.

Smack~

As Sagiso threw an unexpected jab, the tension Katsuo had built up earlier today resurfaced, and he quickly swung his open palm out, smacking the back of his attackers hand roughly as to deflect the attack.
Somewhat of an unsportsmanlike play on his part.

“Imagine if you had kids. They wake you up one morning, and you rip there throats out on instinct.” Katsuo mused, shaking his now tingling hand.

She had expected nothing less from Katsuo, but that's why her aim had never been to hit him. Despite his speedy deflection, Sagisō had still accomplished her goal. She had loosened her grip on her surprise pearl which sailed even closer to Katsuo before it exploded. The thick and tangy scent of chili filled the air as the bomb blanketed everything within a few meters. For her part, Sagisō's eyes were already closed but her visual was maintained by virtue of her Byakugan which ignored eyelids.

In response to Katsuo's comment...

"Then they'd learn never to sneak up on mommy," she innocently quipped back, "mommy has killer instincts."

To be caught off guard in such a public environment. Katsuo couldn’t help but crack a grin as he noticed the pearls mere moments too late.

“I deserve that-“

Poof~

In an instant, Katsuo was cloaked in a cloud of familiar red dust. The corner of his eyes stung as he clinched them shut. His nose and throat burned and spasmed, making it hard to breathe. The Traveler-Nin merely stood there, unmoving, allowing the pain to overtake him.

After a moment of this tolerance, the cloud subsided, and Katsuo could now be clearly seen forming a ball of water, roughly the size of a basketball, in the air above his hand.

“Wonder if the other Nadeshiko have a sense of humor.” The troubled boy mused internally, before sticking his head in the ball of water for several second, shaking his face back and forth to clear up the residue that caked him.

“Feel...better?” He finally choked out whilst coming up for a breath of air.

It would not be long before a bark had been heard on the other side of Zaku's door, and before long Hana and her companion charged through the door as they heard a cry of pain and had already been prepared for the worst. Upon arrival what they had seen was Zaku as he seemed to clutch what appeared to be some sort of irritation on his ankle and what seemed a small hole as the Oto-nin cursed up a storm.

The hole was curious, last Hana had known the Inuzuka Clan was free of rats. While they had not been a clan of cats, puppies still had a habit of playing a bit "aggressively" from time to time if they discovered vermin and proper cleanliness care ensured they had not been a habit around the compound. Her mother would no doubt wish to be informed of this hole, not merely because if they had pests she'd want them disposed of in a hurry but also just so it happened to be in the same room as their guest.

It probably meant nothing, but one never risked much being too careful. Either way...

"So, anything to report. Just happens I am a medical nin so I can patch this up if need be." Hana offered with a toothy smirk though she had moved to check the ankle in the event it had been something somewhat serious. Would be bad record if an infection plagued their special guest after all and the last thing she needed was a headache from Lady Hokage.

"Sakura! Kou....breakfast is ready!"

Sakura, who had already been awake for a good hour before she heard her mother's call, was alerted as she diverted her head from the scroll she had been reading. Sakura had allowed Kou her bed while she took to sleeping on the floor on her own futon. Though she had woken up early, careful not to disturb Kou as she worked to try and get some early morning studying on. With the Chunin Exams to come later in the year, she needed to be sharp as ever. This time, she would pass and become a Chunin. Anything less was not an option, but even with her greater focus she knew when to pause for break as she put her scroll away and worked to check up with Kou so he could get his due meal as the guest of the Haruno residence.

"Kou, you want any breakfast?" Sakura asked as she opened the door to her room to check up on the former street survivor.

Tayuya had been up and worked herself to the nearest bathroom, she in all likelihood would have to bath once more with the other Hyuga and in particular that invasive Sagiso so perhaps if she figured out how to wash her hair with the sink she may have had an out.

But, that thought was secondary. In truth while Tayuya would rather not have given that curious Zino the time of day, his words from last night still had rung in her head like a lingering bell toll.

It isn't a crime for you to enjoy yourself...

Tayuya shook her head, washing her face as she internally scowled at that, who had he been to decide if she was happy or not? Or how she found enjoyment? Yet...that comment only compounded the odd treatment she had in this clan's captivity. In spite of how clingy that one Hyuga had been and some annoyances from others or indifference she had to admit she could have easily just been sent to Ibuki's "care" again or executed once any remaining info she had was forced out of her. Yet she had not been, and in spite of being the "enemy" had been treated with more humanity than one would have ever expected.

It had been confusing to say the least, though as Tayuya glanced up in the mirror that mark on her neck was on display as she glanced at it before she had shook her head. No, these people here had no sway in how she felt. Only Lord Orochimaru could offer her true happiness.

Only Lord Orochimaru knew best.

Tayuya wiped herself with a towel before she moved back to her room. She needed to get changed, she had to plan out her day.

"Yes, much better."

Sagisō laughed and she shimmied over to Amari, her body thrown clingingly onto her sister's. She would, of course, not stand to be the only one still covered in chili powder. Her intense 'affection' was only a cover as she rubbed cheeks with her sister and covered her with chili.

She paused in her aficionado only briefly after she remembered Katsuo's earlier inquiry.

"Hmmm, I never did properly introduce myself did I?"

Sagisō pulled herself off Amari and swept her hair back with chili-covered fingers; evidently, she didn't mind the chili-streaks than now highlighted her darken locks.

"I am the Heavenly Skillful Star ranked 36th among my sisters, I have inherited the name Yan Qing and as a rite of passage I have taken the name Yan Xia Roulan, but my true name is Sagisō. Sagisō Ajisai. It's your honor to meet me."

A playful wink concluded her lengthy introduction.

-----------------------------------------

The morning after the festival was off to a slow start. Parties dragged long into the night had robbed this morning’s fresh exuberance, and that went double—perhaps even triple—for the Hyūga’s hive of workers. Maids tottered around with zombified persistence completing their tasks through the molasses of the grog. The festive adjustments to their uniforms had been done away with and the observant viewer would notice a number of oddities.

Despite the slowed pace, work appeared to be getting done at an even faster rate than normal—a tribute to their disciple, perhaps?

Hinagiku mused to herself. Though she wouldn’t usually have missed the chance to marvel at her Clan’s industriousness, even it could not account for the increased work-output. That honor of that achievement went directly to the maid corps themselves, and their leader Natsu, who had mobilized them in their numbers.

Under normal circumstance only a fraction of the Hyūga’s maids were on duty at any point in time, however, having judged that their normal numbers would not be enough to tackle the herculean task of festival clean-up, the entire maid corps had been put to work which made their internal structure more apparent that it usually was otherwise.

The casual observer would soon notice there were four different uniforms and a keen observer would note that an inversely proportional relationship between how oriental the style of a dress was and the number of maids wearing it. The observer with keen eyes and an astute mind would likely guesstimate—and they would be correct—that the dresses denoted rank and the more oriental the uniform, the higher the maid’s rank.

Generally, maids above the second rank were hardly ever seen wondering the Clan, their duties were often far more specific than the first-class maid who handled cleaning and daily chores. However, regardless of their ranks, each maid that passed by the main residence gave a bow and a slight giggle before continuing her work.

“Uwuwu—" Furījia could hardly think of a more embarrassing situation as she flailed with discomfort.

“I-I’m too old for this!”

For the past few minutes, she had been helplessly confined to her mother’s lap as the duo occupied a bench just outside the main residence. Given her short stature and flushed cheeks, she looked like a lass who shied upon ten winters rather than the dignified heiress on the cusp of adolescence.

“Nonsense darling, you’ll never be too old for this~”

Cheerfully, Hina shot down her daughter’s attempt to worm herself out of her grasp. The fifth such attempt since morning and the last one, it would appear, as Furījia sighed and accepted her fate. The mother-daughter pair snuggled closer, both lapsing into silence and nostalgia. How long had it been since they last held each other like this? A year…? Perhaps two?

Neither wanted to interrupt this idle bliss, but it was eventually Hina who spoke first.

“I heard you dealt with the Taketori and Kohinata Clans in my place…? Tell me about it.”

She had spoken slowly, tentatively, and admittedly with a bit of wonderment, as she addressed her daughter. Pride was apparent in the curl of her lips, but as she listened to Furījia recount her experiences, the girl’s face growing more bitter with every line, her smile faded. Guilt twisted in her stomach, but even more vile was the realization of just how much she had neglected her daughter and just how far the girl has strayed along a road she was not meant to walk.

“I hated it…but I’d hate it, even more, to let everyone down. I understand what I need to do, so I’ll make the sacrifice.”

As Furījia finished her story, silence reigned between them and the girl’s final words stirred Hinagiku’s thoughts. She was…conflicted.

On one hand, Furījia was correct. There was a place for sacrifice in the world they lived in; she might even go as far as to say sacrifice was the lens through which a leader viewed the world. Every decision needed to be weighed and each choice wrought its own sacrifice, this was even more so when your choices forced sacrifice upon others. That was the reality of leadership and although she was glad Furījia had learned this lesson within the comfort of the village, rather than on the battlefield—where she herself had learned it—she couldn’t help but feel the cost was too high.

The pillars of the village today, its movers and shakers, had all be tempered in the furnace of War. They were a generation forced into maturity all-too-soon as the Third Shinobi War wrestled away the last vestiges of their childhoods and revealed to them the reality of what they truly were—soldiers.

That shocking transition from child to soldiers…

It was something she had desperately wanted her daughter to avoid, but it now appeared to her that her methodology was not as effective as she had initially conceived. Her focus had been on simulating a trial-by-fire within the safe confines of the Clan and Village but now she realized just like a rose, trauma by any other name was just as sweet...

While her mother stirred in thought, the silence for Furījia grew increasingly unbearable. As the silence was drawn out and her mother’s praise was…less than forthcoming, Furījia's thoughts took a turn for the worst. Panic had set in and made its throne from the seat of her self-persecution. She could hear the maids giggle, but it no longer sounded as innocent and teasing as before. Now it was mocking and filled with schadenfreude. Even as they walked out of sight, she could still hear them whispering behind her back the same questions which filled her mind.

What had she done? Had she ruined the Hyūga’s relationship with two of their closest allies? What had she been thinking! Did she really believe that she would have been able to settle a negotiation? No way. She couldn’t do it before, and she still couldn’t do it now.

Once again, the truth was apparent. She couldn’t be her mother, and she never would be.

In spite of her mother’s arms wrapped around her—or perhaps, because of them—she was unbearable cold. She felt naked and vulnerable, an inmate awaiting their sentence in the comfort of her chilly cell. Her hands had balled into fists, frustration welling inside her as she trembled. She had tried her hardest and her best, but now she was tired. She wanted nothing more than to wail wretchedly with her fists wrought to wreak havoc on the confines of her cell.

Tsuki/Seiun
Suffice to say, Tsuki was overjoyed at the prospect of Seiun returned to the Yuki's custody with signed paperwork and paid fees as an added bonus. However, there was an issue that needed to be addressed: what would happen to the disobedient rogue now?

"What do you have to say for yourself?" Her tone made it apparent that she was trying to restrain her emotions. However, the former Ame-nin refusing to make eye contact with his mistress only made the prospect of restraint more difficult.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you." Her tone shifted marginally, but she attempted to regain composure.

"I've got nothing to say, not to you," At last, Seiun finally contributed a sarcastic answer to the Yuki-nin's question. The rogue-nin got jabbed in the sides for his remark by one of the Yuki guards that brought him to Tsuki, causing her to adopt a disapproving expression.

"I'm sorry, but I won't take that for an answer," Her emotions were starting to bubble up to the surface as she spoke, "Why did you sneak into the museum? What could you possibly have gained!?"

Seiun scoffed, "I don't need to tell you."

Once again, he got a jab to the sides for his blatant disrespect. Despite this, the Yuki-nin didn't seemed to be phased by the events that were transpiring.

"Listen, you're making this more difficult than it has to be," Tsuki sighed, "I just want to help y-"

"I don't need or want your 'help'!" Suddenly, the former Ame-nin found himself shouting at the Yuki-nin, and promptly on the ground courtesy of the Yuki guard striking his leg. Meanwhile, Tsuki was dumbfounded at what she had just heard, so she decided to give Seiun the opportunity to explain himself.

"I guess I have to spell it out for you," Despite being brought to his knees in a literal sense, Seiun still found it in himself to sneak in another sarcastic chuckle, "Let me ask you a question then: what kind of person enslaves another and calls it 'help'?"

It didn't take Tsuki long to determine what Seiun was trying to say. To her surprise, she felt tears beginning to well up in her eyes, yet she decided to continue the conversation regardless.

"Well compared to having you die, it seemed like a good idea..." The façade of nonchalance that Tsuki had presented up until this point had begun to crack as she made her embarrassment apparent as she said her statement.

"Of course it did, because a short-sighted, naïve little girl like you never considered the possibility that it might be public humiliation in one of its most refined forms," The Rainy Rogue opted to double down on his dry sarcasm, which included upgrading his minor chuckles to sardonic laughter. His behavior had caused the Yuki-nin to feel even worse about her judgement, which was the intended effect. He still got hit by the Yuki guard for his impudence, but he ignored the pain in favor of focusing on securing the mental victory over Tsuki.

"Well what was I supposed to do?!" Tsuki cried out to the former Ame-nin, "What would've been a better choice?"

"For starters, you could've chosen to kill me. Or rather, you could've chosen to lock me up in a prison where I'd never see the light of day again, but no, you wanted to be 'merciful' didn't you?" A smug grin painted his face as he let his final words escape his mouth, "Look where that got you,"

Initially, Tsuki needed to take some time to process what she had just heard. In truth, she felt cut to the heart by what Seiun said, mainly because she felt that some of it was true. Regardless, there was still the matter of how to punish the former Ame-nin for his crimes, and the aforementioned rogue had given her a decent idea at where to start.

"Well, no time like the present to remedy that," Allowing herself to adopt a sardonic tone towards Seiun, "Guards, take him away to have the seal that marks him as my property removed. Then do what you will with him," The guard that was keen on punishing Seiun for his repeated disrespect nodded at the order and motioned his fellow guard to grab the Rainy Rogue's right arm as he grabbed the left. It wasn't long before Seiun began his journey to the Yuki holding cell to receive further punishment. As this was happening, Tsuki decided to take her mind off the situation she had found herself in as of late.

"It's time to pay Hama-sensei a visit," The Yuki-nin solemnly told herself as she walked in the opposite direction of the guards, in an effort to mentally and physically separate herself from the man known as Seiun Yasei.

Shen: King of Digimon

Previously Shen: King of the Mist
“You seem WAY too excited about that.” Zaku smirked. “What? Am I the best looking captive you ever seen?”

Veiling his folly with humor, the sound ninja hesitantly showed the medical-nin the wound in question. It was small, but somewhat deep, mist definitely rodent teeth marks.

“You leaf ninja REALLY have state of the art prisons here dontcha?”

.......

Kou woke up, his eyes a little baggy from the night before. Several feathers lay around him as heard his name called.

“Mmfh...five more minute...”

He turned over in his bed in an half conscious attempt to go back to sleep. He wasn’t used to staying up that late.
