Hello! this looks fun, I've tried an OP rp a few times but none of them ever really took. Since it seems like there's some pretty tough competition, I thought I'd try my hand at my own set of special powers. I’m shooting for captain, though if that’s not possible I’d have fun turning him into a marine that hunts all of ya xD.

Name: Nolae V. Roh
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Vizidian
Crew Role: Captain (Could be either marine, revolutionary, or pirate)
Appearance: Roh tries to look inconspicuous. He wears a tan hoodie made of silk, almost always with the hood drawn up to conceal his face, and a pair of loose fitting black pants. He always travels barefoot and never wears gloves, revealing the tan skin and sharp claw-like fingers and toes that those of Vizidian descent carry. On his back, a bone-colored oar hangs like a sword and is his primary weapon in combat.

Beneath the hood, Roh’s face seems fitting of one perhaps a bit younger than himself. His face is primarily circular, though his Vizidian blood accentuates and sharpens both his cheekbones and jawline. His hair dangles messily above his hawk-like eyes, and the unruly strands have the color of pale rubies. His small nose bears a sharp upturn and lightly speckled across it in a band that stretches through the center of his face is a set of crimson freckles.

Roh is a bit shorter than the average and leans towards the scrawny side; however, the scrappy lad is equipped with enough muscle to fight pound for pound with any bruiser out there.

Personality: Despite the tragedies that have befallen him, Roh remains a largely optimistic and positive presence. His blissful disposition often gives the impression of ignorance; however, that is a calculated decision by the boy. Internally he hosts a burning desire for justice and refuses to focus on anything else. He is solely fixated on his dream world of optimism and will take any steps to near his goal where he can sit on the throne of the world and shine a light on all corruption.

Misc: Roh’s oar is named “White Feng” and is made of the bones of the legendary Fenghuang. It is as light as a feather yet as durable as dragon scales. Roh has integrated it into his own fighting style that is a combination of wind rowing and sky wave krav.

(If I go the marine or solo route) His boat is a hydroptere named “Night Flier.” It is constructed of the darkest ebony wood, has black sails, and an owl masthead. Roh uses his oar to generate powerful bursts of wind to propel the boat at great speeds. It has gained a reputation as one of the fastest ships on the sea, and it is said that no enemy ship has ever escaped once a chase began.

These are a few moves I’ve come up with to give an idea of how Roh fights. His general style relies on his lightweight and great mobility to strike his opponents with powerful acrobatic attacks from all directions.

Abilities
  • Ripple: A thrusting attack with his oar, sends a ripple of waves out from point of impact to increase damage and area of impact
  • Jet Cutter: Uses waves to vibrate White Feng and make it capable of cutting
  • Jet stream: While using Jet Cutter, delivers a forward swing that sends a slash through the air
  • Breaker: A horizontal swing that sends out a wave that pushes opponents back
  • Tidal: A stronger form of breaker
-Riptide: sends waves around opponent and pulls them in towards him
- Maelstrom: An attack delivered in a spinning slash, creates a swirl of waves to push back opponents
-Hydrosphere: creates a swirl of waves in an orb around the end of his oar that becomes packed with energy. He slams it into an opponent to deal explosive damage. Strongest attack for now, can’t use very frequently.

Once he begins to learn how to infuse his attacks with haki, Roh will begin to learn how to manipulate electromagnetic waves to an advanced degree.

Backstory:

In the calm belt along the edges of insert whatever direction we pick blue, stands a mountain that towers above all the rest of the earth. It is said that atop of this mountain lies one of the greatest treasures of all: an island of gemstones! The tales are true, the sparkling city does exist; however, it did not always stand proudly on this perch. There was once an island then known as Ozivo Island. Ozivo was not an esteemed island viewed with any sort of regard, though it did house a multitude of humble farmers who spent their days toiling in the fields. They were happy with their lives, never asking for anything more, yet the world took it upon itself to bless them. Thousands of years ago, an underwater volcano began to bubble in the depths beneath Ozivo. The upstream carried with it rare minerals from the seafloor, and combined with pressure and heat, the world's largest reserve of gemstones began to form right in the soils of Ozivo. At first, it seemed like a miracle. The island began to prosper and soon the farmers were living in castles of diamonds. They were the envy of the world; however, those riches soon attracted pirates that stormed the island. The pirates massacred the farmers and claimed the island for themselves. They lived there in lust for the luxuries, never thinking to even venture to the edge of the island until it was far too late. While they spent years gorging themselves on their plethora of food storages, nobody ever thought to restock, and when they finally went to fetch more, they found themselves miles above the earth. The volcano hadn't stopped, and slowly enough it had begun to create a crystal mountain as clear as glass- invisible to the world unless you catch the right glimpse of it at dawn or dusk.

Out of food and options, the pirates resorted to what little they had left, and began pitifully chewing away at the precious jewels, wishing if only they were just an apple. Most of the men passed away, though something far stranger happened to the rest. They began to adapt- becoming one with the gemstones and creating a new race. This new race called themselves the "Vizidians," from a word their sailor ancestors used in their native tongue to describe the mirages of light that danced above the sea. It was quite the fitting name, as their appearance seemed almost illusory. The trademark traits of the Vizidians came down to a few things.
- Crystal skin- the skin of a Vizidian is mixed with a crystalline structure, giving it a sharper and more glossy appearance as though they were humans constructed from stained glass. This skin is durable, sharp, and an excellent conductor of energy (which is what allowed the Vizidians to survive the immense amount of sunlight).

- Lightweight- Due to their unique chemical composition and ability to more effectively use energy, the Vizidians are incredibly lightweight. This allows them to make almost floating hops, and some learn the art of “Wind Rowing” where they use a large oar to propel themselves with gusts as though they were canoeing on a river of wind.

- Energy Adaptability- The Vizidians are able to directly process energy from any source, allowing them to survive on as little as sunlight alone.

- Sky Wave Krav- A fighting style unique to the Vizidians, and is in many ways an aerial based adaptation of fishman karate. By harnessing their bodies’s latent energy, the Vizidians can create disturbances in the “waves” of the air (light, sound, etc) to greatly increase the impact of their attacks (also compensates for their lacking weight)

Still greedy by nature, the Vizidians set out from their home above the clouds and began to conquer nearby sky islands, eventually establishing an empire that stretched all above insert chosen sea blue. In fact, it became a legend that all the gemstones of the sea were remains that fell from the skies in the few instances where a Vizidian was defeated in combat.

Their empire was prosperous for many years, until the underwater volcano finally fully erupted, leaving a horrific sight of thousands of petrified Vizidians and covering the dazzling island with a layer of ash. The only surviving members were those who had traveled to other sky islands, though without the backup of the Vizidian army, the majority of the Vizidians were hunted- either to be killed for the gemstones of their body or to be sold as luxurious collectibles and slaves. One particularly horrific celestial dragon even created a chandelier from the limbs of a family of Vizidians. Now, throughout the world, only a few Vizidians remain, hiding wherever they can to survive. They mark themselves with the V initial as a symbol of their origins.

The Nolae family had stayed hidden for many years deep within the caves of a mining island. While it was not a comfortable life, it was sustainable, and that was enough for everyone except their youngest son Roh. Roh had an adventurous spirit, he truly carried the pirate blood of his ancestors, and he always yearned for more excitement. For many years, the Nolae family had held onto a precious heirloom from their ancestors- a special oar constructed from the bones of the legendary Fenghuang. Inspired by his wanderlust, Roh stole the oar for himself and at night while his family was sleeping, he would escape from the caves and practice the forgotten art of wind rowing in the freedom of the skies. It seemed like an innocent enough endeavor, though on a night where the moon shone particularly bright, the light began to dazzle off of Roh’s skin and attracted a group of nearby (pirates or marines, depending on which group I end up having Roh join) to investigate. They ended up raided the caves in an all out hunt and massacre, completely wiping out the innocent family. Due to being the only one capable of Wing Rowing, Roh was able to escape along with a book of ancient texts teaching the art of Sky Wave Krav. During a tearful goodbye, Roh fled from his family’s home bearing the promise of gaining justice for the Vizidian people.

Accepted, and I'll be sure to add your character to the raffle for captain.

I feel like letting it take its course in RP could end up causing clashes between characters, making it chaotic and tense since no one vying for captain would necessarily want to give in. But also, just voting could be skewed depending on how well-known each candidate’s RPer is on the site. Arguably, chance may be the fairest option, but it also may not end up with a captain the majority is happy with.

Maybe we could do a combination of RPing and voting, i.e. write short posts into the discussion thread demonstrating a possible way they could become captain or an example of how they would run a ship in a certain situation (each candidate doing the same situation for better comparison). Then we can vote from there, either choosing our favorite or top three (depending on how many there are). We could vote just by liking the post (or have a separate reaction that means a vote). Or potentially choose a top 2 or 3 and let chance determine from there.

Idk just my ideas lol I just woke up so my creativity is only gonna go down from here XD

This actually seems like a solid idea. Also, I'd like to back out of the discussion of captain. I think Asbjorn is the type to be a great fighter but he is far from an ideal leader. I also noticed the role of shipwright's still open, and since Scandinavians are known for building great ships (and Asbjorn's culture is based on a Scandinavian Nordic society), he could fill that role.

@Mango137 @Demonic Bunny As the candidates' creators, what do you guys think? Does this seem like a fair means of choosing a captain between the two of you?

Also @Grand Master Koop Just wanted to say thanks for the advice you've given, and also wanted to know if you wanted to join the RP.

As long as everyone else is cool with it.

Works for me! If there’s a specific prompt to write on lmk

Alright, captains to be! Here's your scenario:

Your crew has been found out by the local marines, and you all need to escape before you are captured. Your ship is docked at the south harbor, and you are in the center of the town you're trying to escape. However, the catch is one of your crewmates had already been captured by a Marine officer and will be executed if you leave them. Additionally, during the reveal, another of your crewmates is injured and will have trouble getting back to the ship without help, most likely getting caught and finished off. You have two other crewmates, but their morale is dropping fast. As leader of this five-man band, how would you rectify this situation?

I Think the best option would be to try and boost the morale of the two men and have one of them get the injured member to a doctor or get them to tend to the wounds and have the other crew member come with you to save the member that got captured and then reunite with the other members and make our way back to the ship and leave as quick as possible. That's just what I think anyway, I tried my best with this one.

Sounds good! Am I supposed to write it out like an rp or just give my plan?

Write it out like an RP, I mean. Show us how your character would act in this tough situation.

Okay! Are there any particular characters I should use for the injured and captured ones?
That's all up to you. You could use the characters we have listed off so far (given everyone's okay with it) or make up your own for this non-canon one-shot.
I can't do that since I'm at work
Just post it whenever you can, my dude. We understand you have life priorities.

I’d be cool with Seven being used in either person’s post! If you’d want to check about specific abilities or whatever feel free to PM me or just ask here but improvisation is cool too and maybe I’ll steal your ideas I mean what

But NPCs would be great too so y’all just do you, don’t mind me XD

I’m sorry to do this, but I think I’ll have to bow out of the running. Congrats Moxxie!

I think I’ll focus on making Roh a marine, it’d be fun to join the crew but I just have some concerns. With 3 logia powers and the gum gum fruit (which has a lot of implications if you are caught up to the manga), even that dire situation just didn’t feel that dire to me and I realized that I just think the crew is too strong. We already have Enel’s fruit, which arguably puts our navigator at a warlord level just because of its nature, and we’re also in possession of its natural counter. Keep in mind, Enel beat the straw hats with ease and they only won because luffy was immune. Coming up with enemies to raise the stakes for this crew just seems like an almost impossible task.

The solutions I’d have are either making it so people can’t acquire logias until later or introducing haki much earlier (potentially as soon as they reach the grand line). I’d also balance this by saying that I very strongly feel that people shouldn’t be able to just have it all in terms of power. I don’t assume many people will wanna volunteer themselves to be a part of our “weakling trio” so we’ll need to make balance amongst the crew somehow. I think the best course of action would be to restrict some of the more powerful devil fruit users access to haki so the members without devil fruits also get a chance to shine. They could maybe get one or two base forms, but certainly not the advanced applications or conquerors. As Whitebeard said, a crew with too many conquerors is a problem and I certainly don’t wanna put myself in a position to try to captain that.

Unless some sort of consensus could be reached within the main crew about powers and progression, I’d just feel better going the marine route and opposing you guys to try to establish some sense of balance.

I can't say I'm not interested but the current crew's lineup leaves the balance of power really in shambles so I'm not sure.

Would you be willing to humor the idea of having a second pirate crew in this RP?
Oh, definitely. I'm not saying all our characters will be in the same crews or factions. If this doesn't turn out working, we could just have our characters split into different groups and going down different routes

For your solutions, I would prefer the introduction of haki earlier, like when reaching the grand line. The main counters to Logia are seastone, fishman karate, haki, and other logia, so we could also potentially separate them into being incorporated into the arsenal of our opponents in different arcs early on.

As for the balancing of haki, I presume you mean Conqueror’s Haki (CoC). I agree that having too many conquerors on a crew may lead to issues and that characters shouldn’t just be able to have it. Those that do wish to attain CoC should be able to display why these deserve it through their “Kingly ambitions”. I would suggest before getting CoC, an explanation about why they have it is written.

Adding onto that, CoC shouldn’t really be utilized seriously until way later on, probably in the New World. So a possible road map for Haki could be:

Rookie Seas: No Haki > Grand Line: Haki > New World: Advanced Haki/CoC

Apologies lmao. Mango and I are… uhh, very dedicated fans of Goat Piece you could say and would love to see this rp sail smoothly. :D
No worries. I just should've done more research and read/watched more. I haven't even finished the Alabasta saga yet in the anime and on the manga side i just finished Drum Island. But with so much hype about OP these days I was just so eager to do something with Asian JRR Tolkein's (Oda in case it wasn't obvious enough) world. I only know so much about current events through OP YouTube channels like Tekking101 and Grand Line Review, as well as seeing anime clips here and there.

Ah, that makes sense then lel. Tbh, I only started reading it almost a year ago myself thanks to Mango. And yeah, I’d suggest reading the manga, since the anime can be quite the slogfest. It’s good that you know about current events though and seen some clips. I’m guessing you already have an idea on how high the powers levels can reach then?

Sail smoothly <.< Retro did a funi XD

Yeah, power balances with the crew may (read: will likely lol) become a pain in the neck with so many devil fruit users… there are so many different power mechanics but not all of ‘em are created equal ¯\(ツ)

Two competing crews might give both sides a challenge, or having some of them be marines like Mango’s doing with Roh… could have small parties of two or three too each with their own goals, not sure what would be best.

I do know that I’m planning to pursue a kind of side plot with Seven, where the World Noble had two more automatons created, one to replace her and another whose only purpose is to hunt her down and “terminate” her. Then she’d have a concrete reason to keep running and potentially a way/reason to fight back against an actual target. Also planning for an emotional maturity arc for her lol though that would go along with the rest of whatever else is going on physically.

Anyway, not sure which group Seven would end up with in the event of there being more than one crew, but she’ll definitely be staying faaaar away from the world government pff

Lol I mean it’s been six years since her completion date and coming online, but she has the mentality of a much older person due to her programming. Her emotional maturity is not up to speed, though, she’s naiive. But her name comes from her model number, not her age haha

I’m sorry to do this, but I think I’ll have to bow out of the running. Congrats Moxxie!

What's up with the manga?
