Open Trainer Life: Pokemon RP

The following Conversation occurred late the previous night, after Guzma's return to Po Town:

"So lemme get this straight," Guzma implied back in Po Town, taking in all of Dex and Plumeria's reports, "You think you found something you've been looking for since you were eight, and now you wanna do a raid for gemstones that might not even be the right ones?"

"Yes, sir." Dex replied. "Those 'gemstones' as they were called are actually items that hold great importance to certain Pokémon. Pokémon that can give Team Skull the power it needs to make their business boom." He began to pace back and forth across the room. "Imagine Team Skull being the most feared name on the globe. You'd have the entirety of the world in the palm of your hand. Why stop there, though?"

"You have my attention..." Guzma said, "Go on."

"What if I told you..." with a smile he whispered the last half in his leader's ear. No one else heard it, but judging from Guzma's reaction, it must've been something good.

"You're really something else, Dex, I'll give ya that!" Guzma laughed. "So, what's your plan for getting these...'gemstones'?"

The sun had barely risen over Hau'oli City, and already the alleys were filled with movement. Dex and about 20 other grunts remained hidden in the shadows across the town. They had to wait for the perfect moment to strike. As they waited, they put on various clothing and removed their bandanas and caps, tucking them away in hiding places to later retrieve, or in an emergency, leave. When they left the alleys, they looked just like normal civilians. Dex, however, stayed out of sight, period. going completely unnoticed by the patrolling police, he made his way to the Hau'oli Shopping Mall roof and waited there. At opening time, shoppers waiting outside went into the building, along with one or two grunts every ten minutes. When all of the members were inside, Dex dressed in a stolen Engineer's outfit and made his way to the fuse box for the entire building.

The shopping mall seemed perfectly fine. People were having a good time shopping, chatting with friends, or even taking their children to the stage area to see a special performance. By the battle buffet, a police officer looked over the mall happily. Everything was perfect, as always. Then...the lights went out. Immediately the crowds went silent and looked around curiously, wondering what was going on. Anxious children stayed close to their parents. "Ladies and gentlemen," a voice spoke. "Feel free to start screaming, because TEAM SKULL IS IN THE HOUSE!" With that, the grunts threw off their disguises and sent out their Pokemon to cause as much havoc as they pleased. Golbats swooped down over the panicking people's heads, hypnos and gumshoos guarded the exits, and salandits and haunters zoomed through the crowds, causing further pandemonium. A grunt spray-painted their team's logo on the staircase, as well as a message. Dex went about the panicking crowds, still disguised, and planted small devices on various locations of the mall. Then he turned his attention to the counter on the second floor: the Antique shop, and sent out his roserade.

"Let me see your merchandise." He ordered. Without much of an alternative choice, the trembling woman showed him everything she had in stock, including the three gems from Sinnoh, and two others he didn't care much for. "I'll take the three from Sinnoh." he demanded. The woman complied, and gave him the box. "Good. now rest easy. If you're lucky, no further harm will come to you." With that, Roserade put the woman to sleep with sleep powder. "Alright, boys, the mall's ours!" he called out, "Let's have some fun since we're here!"

A trainer with a black trench coat and a Greninja walked into the mall after knocking out a Hypno that was blocking the entrance. He looked around and saw the ensuing chaos around the mall. There were Golbats flying around, Salandits and Haunter chasing shoppers, and team skull members raiding raiding the shops inside. He looked at the staircase with a message on it, but didn't read what it said. He then turned to the terrified civilians who didn't know what to do. Some tried too run to the exits only to be stopped by the Hypnos and Gumshoos guarding the exits. Some tried running into the apparel shop only too find some grunts trying on some of the clothes. In the battle buffet, well, the grunts were stuffing themselves with food while a police officer laid on the floor.

Zion had only arrived to Melemele island a few hours ago, with his Greninja from Kalos and had decided to do some sight seeing... and Greninja was also hungry. Zion had started his journey in Kalos, with his partner Froakie and had traveling throught the region, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and now he had come to see what challenges Alola had in store for him. He had bested the gym leaders of all the regions and was surpised to find out that there were no gym leaders in Alola. He had heard stories of the different organizations occupying the other regions, like Team Rocket, Magma, Aqua, Galactic. He had a few run ins with Team Flare when he was visiting Kalos for a week but it wasn't like how it was in the mall.

"Hey, you can't just walk in here when we're causing fear!", a Skull Grunt rhymed while doing some weird hand gestures. "Yeah, what my bro said!", another grunt exclaimed. "I don't think you understand. I'm just here to have some lunch," Zion told the grunts trying to play it cool. "Trying to play it cool, but we know you're just a fool!", the grunt said doing his rhyming thing again with his hand gestures. Zion internally cringed. Zion's Greninja was done playing cool and walked up in front of him. "Greninja, I know you're hungry but you don't have to this," Zion said trying to keep Greninja calm. The Skull grunt backed away and his partner got in front of him. "Bro, I heard of those pokemon from Kalos. They're dangerous," the skull grunt said to his partner who had stepped up. "I don't care what that is, but I'll make it miss!", the grunt exclaimed sending his Salandit at Greninja. A few seconds later, both of their pokemon were knocked out. "So tell me, what's going on here?", Zion asked in a serious tone.

"Well well." a voice chuckled in response to Zion's demand. Standing at the top of the staircase was what appeared to be another grunt. Instead of a cap, however, he wore a hood that, when put up and paired with the bandana around his mouth, made it seem his head was encased by a skull. "Looks like someone's come to crash our party." He descended the staircase, passing the defeated grunts, and stopped just ten feet away from Zion and his Greninja.

"L-little bro Dex, this guy's crazy strong! You better be careful, or you won't last too long!" one of the grunts rhymed.

"It's alright, Ty. You did what you had to." Dex replied. "Call for the order of retreat. We're done here, but there's something I want to check out."

"B-but-!" the other grunt stuttered, but the look in Dex's eyes stopped him. That was the look that meant he was eager to battle, that he detected true strength in Zion, a real challenge. "Alright...but be careful." With an approving nod from Dex, the other grunts called back their Pokémon and left the mall. Panicking citizens also left in a stampede of fear. Soon, the mall was empty except for the two trainers squaring off.

"Now YOU," Dex said as he grinned. "seem to be far stronger than any other opponent I've faced. If all outsiders are strong like you and all the others I've faced, I'd love for you all to come. Battling the other grunts is helpful for training, but it gets boring when you're the strongest of the group, ya know? You always win, and soon, the spark of life you feel from battling just...fades away." he circled Zion like a wolf, looking him and the greninja over. "Enough talk, though. You want to stop my heinous crime, and I want you squashed like a bug. Let's see who's wish will be granted, shall we?" With that, he whipped out his first Pokémon: a Roserade. "Roserade, use sleep powder!" he ordered. Roserade danced about, scattering sleep-inducing powder all across the battlefield in a massive cloud. "Now use Spikes!" After the cloud of powder was put up, Roserade began scattering spikes across the battlefield, resuming it's enchanting dance.

"Woah, there's a news alert," Matt observed on his tablet. "Says there are Team Skull grunts raiding a mall somewhere here. What's more, there's an incredibly strong trainer stopping almost all of them." Matt noticed a familiar face. "Wait, that's the guy we faced earlier! We gotta go check it out."

"This guy... be aware Greninja," Zion said as Dex was circling them. "Nin-ja.", Greninja responded in achknowlegement before Dex's Roserade was sent out. As soon as he heard the command for sleep powder, he grabbed his coat and put it over his mouth and nose to prevent the powder from getting into his system. "Greninja, you know what to do,"Zion stated confident in his Greninja. Greninja's tongue started swing back and forward, going faster by the second, which generated an air current to send the powder in the other direction. Once the powder had gone away from the area, Zion put his coat back on and looked at the spikes that the Roserade had placed while they stopped the sleep powder. "I see you've been busy," Zion said kicking one of the spikes away from him. "Now it's our turn. Greninja, grab the Roserade with your tongue and then use ice beam!", Zion commanded. Greninja nodded before stretching it's long tongue out and then sent it after Roserade.

"Dodge it, Roserade, and use giga drain!" Roserade leaped out of the way with a graceful spin and fired a small sphere of green light at Greninja, which then turned into several spheres pelting him and returning to Roserade. Dex laughed. "Come on, I know you can do better! Show me more!"

Zion watched the Roserade's elegant movements, studying it's patterns. "Quick, Greninja use ice beam to counter the giga drain!", Zion exclaimed. Greninja allowed it's tongue to come back to him before sending out a beam of ice at the incoming spheres. As the beam hit one of the spheres, an explosion occurred causing a chain reaction of the spheres to be engulfed into the white smoke. The smoke started too spread through the area, which reduced visibility.

"Stay on guard, Roserade, and add two layers of Toxic Spikes!" Roserade remained elegant even as it scattered the two layers of toxic spikes to the already added layer of spikes. "Easy..." Dex whispered, "Let them come to you." Roserade nodded, and waited, trusting her master as she always had. Both trainer and Pokémon listened and watched for any sign of movement. A small hint of a footstep, a tiny shift in the air, a blur of movement, or anything else was all they needed to confirm their target's location.

Daniel's Lopunny cried out in protest, wrapping her paws around the handlebars of her master's wheelchair. He wouldn't be getting himself into any more trouble with Team Skull, not if she could help it. What would the boy's mother think of her if she allowed him to get hurt, or worse?!

"I'll be ok, Lopunny," he answered to his service pokemon, "Mightyena will fight for me. You know how tough she is in battle."

"Lopunny..." the rabbit continued.

The boy rolled his eyes. "As soon as we're done, you can take me straight back t hotel for my medication, alright?" he offered, to placate her.

The rabbit grumbled, accepting her defeat less than gracefully. Once Daniel had an idea in his head, there was no stopping him...

"If you're done arguing with your nurse there, then let's go," Rose demanded.

Now would be a good time to run for any average trainer just trying to escape. However, Zion wasn't just an average trainer. He had encountered this situation before. Once the smoke cleared, the opposing trainer would be ready to attack. Zion took this opportunity to figure out a plan. Judging from the way the battle was going, Roserade would keep dodging Greninja's attacks. They needed a distraction.

After a few moments past, when the smoke finally disappeared Zion was left standing there but Greninja was gone. Zion looked forward and noticed the toxic spikes over the already laid spikes. He looked at Dex and his Roserade. "Okay, you got me. I already returned Greninja to it's pokeball," Zion said showing Dex the pokeball. "It's a custom in other regions that if you lose to a group who steals pokemon, you have to hand over your pokemon. So here, catch." Zion said before tossing the pokeball to Dex.

Dex caught the Pokeball, but he still kept his guard up. Then, he smiled. "Just how gullible do you think I am? Let me guess: The pokeball you tossed me is empty, and somewhere in this area, Greninja's waiting for me and Roserade to drop my guard so it can strike out of the blue." He grinned. "So...now the question is, did I guess correctly?" he tossed the device back to Zion, waiting to see his response.

Zion grinned. "No, there's a pokemon in here, but it's not Greninja," he said before sending out the pokemon. As the all familiar orange dragon pokemon came out it's pokeball, fire came out it's mouth as it roared. The pokemon stayed in the air to avoid the toxic spikes. "If you're going to keep avoiding my attacks, then I'm just going to have to keep raising my speed. Charizard, use dragon dance!", Zion commanded. Charizard then started to a tribal dance midair, raising it's speed and physical power. "Now what's the last move you have? I've seen your two spike moves and your giga drain. Or you could just switch out. Do what you please while Charizard powers up to it's max potential.", Zion stated waiting for Dex's next move.

After walking for a while, the three finally arrived in front of the mall. All looked calm, until they stepped inside. There, a fierce battle was going on between a trainer in a trench coat and that Team Skull grunts they had faced before. "Pidgeot! Hit that Roserade with Aerial Ace!" With an ear-splitting screech, Pidgeot flew at the Roserade with incredible speed.

"Have you already forgotten?" Dex chuckled. "Very well, I'll remind you. Roserade, put the dragon to bed! Sleep powder!" Roserade once more sent a cloud of powder right at Charizard and Pigeot, trapping them in it. "Finish layering your spikes while the dragon take their naps, then we can pick up the pace!" Roserade obeyed quickly, adding two more layers of spikes as the cloud swirled around Pigeot and Charizard.

Zion mentally cursed himself. He always had this problem of being too cocky. He then noticed another group enter the mall, with one of them sending their Pidgeot out too fight. "Hey, you with the Pidgeot! Have your Pidgeot use it's wings to send the powder away. Charizard, do the same!", Zion ordered. Charizard started too furiously flap it's wings with it's speed boost from the dragon dance.

Dex grinned at Matt under his mask. "I was expecting you two to show up sooner or later. And what's more, you brought a friend with you." he mused. "But It's rather rude to interrupt an already ongoing battle. So wait your turn, and then I'll gladly stomp you into the dust." With that, he turned back to Zion, but repositioning himself so he could keep an eye on both him, and the trio.

"Dang it," Matt muttered, beaming Pidgeot back. "Glalie! Your turn!" Glalie burst out of the Pokeball. This time, Matt would have a plan to deal with Sleep Powder.

The second Glalie came out of it's Pokeball, it took damage from the Spikes and was badly poisoned by the Toxic Spikes scattered across the ground. Dex shook his head with pity. They just never learn, do they? he thought, as he put a hand to his pocket, waiting. "Your move." He chuckled, waiting for them to strike.

'How is this one Roserade so hard. Charizard should be able too out speed it by now due to dragon dance powering up it's speed,' Zion thought to himself. "Charizard, use flare blitz on the Roserade!", Zion commanded. Charizard roared as flames surrounded it as it charged at the Roserade at full speed.

Matt kicked himself. he had completely forgotten about the spikes! Yet he remembered to keep calm and not show signs of fear. "No no no," He said smoothly. "Ladies first."

"Well, one of you fell for it. Roserade...come back!" Dex beamed his Pokémon back into it's ball just as Charizard attacked, causing the flare blitz to hit the ground. "Now let's see...ah! Perfect! GO, HELIOLISK!" he sent out his next Pokémon, who gave a battle cry. "Use Discharge!" Heliolisk nodded and let loose a powerful blast of electricity into Charizard and Glaile. Charizard in particular suffered heavy damage due to his flying type.

"If that's how you're going to act," Rose cackled with an acerbic smirk, "Then Mari, use ominous wind."

The big balloon blew a purplish, sparkling mist across the battlefield, swinging gaily about her mistress's shoulders.

"Mightyena, use hyper beam!" Daniel ordered.

The dog like pokemon let off a bright orange burst of energy onto the field.

"Charizard use roost to heal up while the Helioisk is distracted by the other trainers." Zion said thankful that Charizard hadn't been paralyzed. They both then focused on the battle while Charizard healed up.

The second Mightyena stepped onto the battlefield, it sustained damage and was badly poisoned, again by the traps laid before the trio arrived. "You really need to be more careful, or it's gonna bite you hard!" Dex laughed. "Heliolisk, use discharge again! Make 'em pay for every inch of ground they get!" Heliolisk obeyed, and this time, the four opposing trainers saw something that the lizard-like pokemon was holding. It shone as Heliolisk executed the order and fired another powerful wave of electricity across the battlefield, damaging the four targets. The ominous wind did nothing to Heliolisk, given it's normal-typing. However, Heliolisk was losing HP gradually with each attack it used, and the hyper beam that hit it accelerated that, forcing it to just a sliver of it's health.

"Honestly, I'm disappointed." Dex chuckled. "Last time, you two alone could handle me. Now, you're struggling just to take down ONE of my Pokémon. I know you're more capable than this!" he seemed to enter a frenzy of sorts. "I know you can do better, so stop playing around and get serious!"

'He's right. I beat so many gym leaders and it takes so much too stop this one guy.' Zion thought too himself. "Return Charizard and come out Bisharp!", Zion exclaimed. Bisharp came out it's pokeball in a fighting stance. He had sent out Bisharp since the toxic spike wouldn't effect Bisharp because of it's steel typing. However it did take damage from the normal spikes. "Bisharp, use sucker punch!", Zion exclaimed. Bisharp nodded and in no time at all appeared in front of Helioisk ready to punch it.

"Glalie, return, and now, Sawk, use Stone Edge!" Sawk leaped out of his Pokeball, and immediately hurled sharps tones at the Heliolisk as Rose and Daniel commanded their Pokemon simultaneously.

"Then try this one on for size," Rose scoffed, sending out Kagura, her skuntank. "Two can play at the poison game. Kagura, use smog! Mari, use will-o-wisp!"

Daniel returned his Mightyena, and instead, sent out his shiny Honchkrow. "Honchkrow, use dark pulse!" he ordered.

'That sucker punch should be enough to handle the Helioisk since it has already received heavy damage and it takes extra damage from it's life orb.' Zion thought to himself as he watched Bisharp about to sucker punch the Helioisk.

Heliolisk took the full blow of each attack and toppled into Dex, who caught him, but was knocked back himself with a grunt. "Ugh...yeah...that's what i'm lookin' for..." he said as he got up, smiling. "Good work, Heliolisk." he complimented as he returned the fainted pokemon to it's pokeball. Then he looked at each Pokémon in play: Bisharp, Skuntank, Honchkrow, Driftblim(or drifloon), and Sawk. He had to use a pokemon that could damage and target all of their weaknesses, or at least as many as possible. Grinning, he took out his third Pokémon. "Donphan, you're up!" he called out, and tossedthe Pokeball into the air. "Use stealth rock!" Donphan let out a cry and scattered pointed stones all around the battlefield. "NOW ROCK SLIDE!" With a stomp of the ground, the elephant Pokémon sent massive boulders crashing into the opposing Pokémon.

"Sawk! Hit those boulders away!" Sawk smashed the rocks, shattering each one with a single blow. "Now, Sawk, jump right over Donphan and use Close Combat!" With astonishing speed, Sawk launched himself directly over Donphan and prepared to pummel it to the ground.

Surprisingly, Dex's Donphan tanked the Close Combat pretty well. Damage was sustained, yes, but Donphan remained standing. And now that Sawk's defenses were lowered, and Sturdy had been broken by the spikes (the toxic spikes removed by Daniel's skuntank), it was vulnerable. "EARTHQUAKE!" Dex roared, and the ground-type reared up and smashed it's forelegs into the ground. The entire building trembled as chunks of earth struck every Pokémon that wasn't flying or floating in the air from below.

Bisharp easily punched the boulders breaking them with it's steel hands. "Bisharp, use iron head on that Donphan!", Zion commanded. Bisharp head started to glow gray before it charged head first at the Donphan.

Once more, Donphan tanked the iron head, receiving damage but still toughening it out. Then, at the earlier command of Earthquake, Bisharp got sent flying back by the ground under it's feet.

(The skuntank is Rose's, not Daniel's)

"Kagura, return!" Rose ordered. There was no avoiding that earthquake for the skuntank... So she'd have to stay out, for now.

"Honchkrow, use payback!" Daniel ordered, and within seconds, the bird began to burst the boulders with popping purple sparks.

With most of the other pokemon occupied with the rock slide, Rose decided to just keep attacking the enemy pokemon. "Mari, use ominous wind again! We need to finish this up!"

The drifblim obeyed as she blew her sparkling gale, careful to avoid whipping the boulders around in the process.

Matt saw the Donphan tank the hits incredulously. "I guess I have to hit him harder," he muttered. "Sawk! Use Brick Break repeatedly!" Then, he took out a Pokeball. This Pokemon had been his partner since he was 6. "Sceptile! Go!" Sceptile, eyes gleaming with fire, leaped out, and looked at Matt. They had bonded so much, they could share thoughts. Without speaking, Sceptile hurtled toward the Donphan, arms conjuring glowing emerald blades.

Bisharp kneeled to the floor in apparent pain. As the earthquake was going, a boulder had hit a column which caused it too break. Bisharp noticed this and ran for the column to hold it up before it caused the whole building to crash down. Zion nodded at Bisharp and sent out Greninja once again. It leaped onto onto one of the columns, using it's tongue to hold on to the column. Then it used scald on the Donphan, which sent a steaming hot beam of water at it.

"Donphan, move!" Dex ordered. Immediately Donphan rolled up into a wheel like shape and rolled across the battlefield, drifting in a circle to avoid as much damage as it could. "I gotta say, you all really are persistent. But so far, It's seemed that I've always been one step ahead of you." Dex laughed. However, he knew Donphan wouldn't last much longer. "EARTHQUAKE ONE MORE TIME!"

"Sawk! Sceptile! Jump upward!" Both of them leaped into the air. "Now, Leaf Blade and Brick Break on the field!" The two striked the floor, sending debris up in the air. Matt prayed that the shock would hit Donphan.

"You fool!", Zion exclaimed as multiple columns started to collapse. "This whole place will go down if you keep doing that. But judging by the way you act, you're not going to stop. Greninja, take that guy!", Zion exclaimed. Greninja held on to the column as it sent it's tongue at Dex, and grabbed him with it.

Mari's ominous wind would be all but drained of its PP soon enough. Not that it mattered. Mari was forever floating, so the earthquake wouldn't affect her in any way.

Honchkrow was fine too, as long as he stayed in the air.

Aware of the imminent collapse of the building, Daniel returned his Lopunny, and ordered Rose to get behind him, to push him to safety should the foundations of the mall not hold out long enough.

"Mari, use shadow ball," Rose commanded, taking the handlebars of the wheelchair.

"Honchkrow, payback, one more time!" Daniel ordered.
