Well i think we should first establish if we want a basic or nuanced story.
Yea, that's what we're here for.

We threw around some ideas in the discord, but they're long lost and I'm not scrolling all the way to find them.

Well I think first we should establish just where this is. Canon region? Fanon region? Location is simple but important for a Pokemon RP groundwork.
Of course. From what I do remember, we wanted it to be a fan-created region, and Neb said he would make the map.

Here's the suggested map.

ADMIN EDIT: Remember. We have rules regarding the use of images in the RP forum!

Well typically in a Pokemon RP there are two main plots.

One is the "be the best" plot which follows paths of the Pokemon League, Coordinators, Performers etc. whatever professions the OCs aspire to chase and those competitions/Gym Battles leading to the big tournaments.

The other is typically the villain team or general region story plot. Basically the main conflict of the island our cast would have to resolve. So figuring out what this would be would help tackle one of the two key plots.

The idea had been to have a Journey type of role play, so I imagine that leans more towards the "Be the Best" plot.

We'd spoken about Gym battles, so it's safe to assume that much of our RP would be competitive battling. Personally, though, I've always wanted to try Pokemon Coordinating. It sounds pretty intriguing to me. If there's anyone else willing to be a coordinator with me, then we can do that as a sort of alternative focus.
Yeah so we have a map to start on, do we base this region off of any country?
Any particular reason to do that?

I see. Well I personally love the anime style Contests so I might either make a character along with a Gym Battler or I can try an OC concept I've had for a while of a guy trying to both win the Pokemon League & Grand Festival and pull double duty. Liked that guy Nando from the Sinnoh anime.

I just tried to pull Nando's team in a Pokemon Showdown tournament on Discord and he got bodied lmfao. Admittedly, he got bodied against Drake, but Solidad, who won the Hoenn Grand Festival, pulled the rug from under Red (I was surprised too).

I considered doing the double pull as well, but...guess I'll see how it goes.

For the Gym Leaders though, I was actually thinking we invite other RPers for appearances as needed.

To be fair, I meant the Nando concept not so much his exact team. I just always had a guy with a duel career thing going, even had an idea for him to have a masked over the top persona for his Contest stuff and some baggage with his father to boot.

And damn, Solidad beat Red? And they say he is the Pokemon Master. But honestly I like that, I feel there isn't a reason a good Coordinator couldn't compete with a good trainer. Even if this example is the most eye popping lol

Ya should've seen Dawn in action.

I had to change up her team a bit

Bunneary > Lopunny w/ Mega Stone
Piplup > Empoleon
Quilava > Typhlosion

but she managed to take down Blue, Gehetis, Brock, Palmer (twice with three losses), Diantha...

It was a good run. I think Coordinators are pretty viable, but they do start at a innate disadvantage. Nando, in particular, doesn't really run pokemon with competitive stats.

Yeah...I was red. But hey, flint is getting pretty far lol (also me.)

Okay...so a few questions that need to get out of the way...

1. How many characters should we have?

2. Fan region? If so, what is the geography?
We'll start 1-2 Characters for each person?

Sounds pretty reasonable yea?

There's 9 of us, so maybe while we're traveling we'll split into 2+ groups or so?

A 9-person traveling group sounds a bit high to me... 9-way interactions for the whole RP? Yikes! Probably a small nightmare.

This is a map Neb made. Probably Pacific climate and the geography is fairly diverse. It's lacking in extreme terrains though, deserts, mountains, tundras or anything like that.

Annnnyway, back on topic. My questions?

That sounds like a reasonable split for a RP like this

My that does sound like a nightmare...okay I can get behind this.

Hmmmm this could be nice. Though I do love my poison city idea

I am inquisitive. Sue me lol

But yeah just getting a concept character out there. Shen now asking stuff about the region. Which needs at minimum

A Champion
Elite 4
8 Gym Leaders
Professor

I could RP a few Gym Leaders if need be.
Well, as I've said.

For Gym Leaders and the like, I think we should invite other RPers to act in that capacity just so we don't bog ourselves down with side characters.

For example, if you know a good battler from another RP they could hop in for Gym Battles as needed and then leave with no major effect on the story.

Unless you've got a plot in mind for a gym leader, I think 'guest gym leaders' would be a good way to keep ourselves focused on a smaller number of characters.
Nobody in the anime cares about competitive stuff except Paul.
Yea, in the anime and in RP, stats aren't that important. So the competitive stuff isn't as dead-set.

I'd also personally suggest for the Coordinator side of the plot we have a former Grand Festival Winner. Basically a Champion equivalent for that plot.
Well, of course, we'd have to do this.

We'd need to do a bit of pacing though.

It's 5 Contest Ribbons to 8 Gym Badges, or maybe we'll change up some things to accommodate story pacing.
That is usually how the anime is split up, Ash with the gym battles and The female companions with the contests/Showcase
Yea, that's how I imagine it would go.

Maybe the groups would take detours to go to a town with a Contest Hall but no gym. Just to get the exploration in.

Hmmmm this could be nice. Though I do love my poison city idea
I'm not against it, just jot it down so that when we come back to compile our ideas we can present the region we have in mind to Neb so he can make the map.
