As Kabuto spoke with the Sound Four about their plans, Kiro found himself rather intrigued about what the skeleton guy had said. The ninja who he was referring to, Kimimaro, had seemingly offered up his body for some reason. It took Kiro only a few seconds to comprehend what the situation was. ‘He’s offering up his body to Orochimaru...’ Now knowing what Kimimaro meant by offering his body, Kiro felt a shiver crawl up his spine when Kabuto glanced at him. ‘That disapproving look again.’ Kiro didn’t know whether he should be grateful or disrespected that Kabuto thought he wasn’t good enough to be a vessel at this point. At the very least, now he would have the chance to show Kabuto why Orochimaru chose him.
Unlike the other Uchiha, Kiro didn’t have any connections with the clan. He was abandoned by them, forgotten in the Mist. He never had the luxury of spending time with the clan. While in the Leaf, Kiro taken notice of the camaraderie between the other Uchiha. The way Raiku had so quickly stood up for Chikao left an impression on him. It wasn’t just them, during the time he spent in the village he had taken notice of the way they looked after each other. As an outsider looking in, Kiro saw the relationships they shared with each other. Treating each other as they were brothers, is that what being part of a clan was? To treat each other as family? To walk the path Kiro was going to take, could any of the other Uchiha really say they were ready to abandon their clan, the one they were so devoted too? Thinking about it was one thing, but actually living it, only Kiro could say he had done it. He didn’t have to worry about betraying his clan because he was never part of it in the first place. The Uchiha would never let the snake get away with one of their own. Maybe it was a blessing disguise that he wasn’t born within the confines of the clan. Now he could achieve the power a normal Uchiha would never be able to attain if they stayed sheltered by the clan. Power that he could use which didn’t rely solely on his eyes.
The sharingan could be considered an Uchiha’s greatest strength. However, it could also be their greatest weakness. What was an Uchiha without their eyes? An average shinobi at best maybe? Even with their eyes, there was a ceiling. That ceiling only raised every time an Uchiha raised their tomoe count or even when they awakened the mangekyou. The cost? Well, that required the user to further lose themselves into the darkness an eye upgrade required. That was the curse they shared. All the Uchiha, they were trapped by this curse. No matter which path they took, they would lose something. Would it be their sight, a loved one, or even themselves into total darkness? Kiro believed he had found an alternative solution. He wouldn’t allow himself to fall into the curse that would be shared by the same clan he resented. Rather than have his main source of strength come from only his eyes like the rest of the clan, he could reduce them to simply a tool for an even greater power. It was just an idea, a dream, but maybe it could be a reality.
A reality that could only be accomplished with the help of a certain snake. Kiro was sure of it now, but he had to tread carefully. If he wanted to see his full potential, Orochimaru couldn’t have his body. However, he needed Orochimaru alive for now, so he listened to Kabuto’s command and accepted it. “I may have stumbled earlier, but try not to underestimate me too much, Kabuto. We should be able to handle this. I still require Orochimaru’s help, so I will not allow his head to fall into the enemy’s hands.” Kiro answered Kabuto, his tone staying calm throughout. He still felt a bit insulted by Kabuto but now he had to focus on the mission at hand.

Fugaku stood silently with his arms crossed in his office at the Konoha Military Police headquarters. In front of him stood two of his three most trusted aides, Inabi and Yashiro Uchiha. Both of them continued to bicker about the action the clan should take. Despite specific orders from the higher powers of the village, some of the Uchiha had already taken part in defending the village against the invasion. Fugaku himself had no qualms with defending the village. However, he was sure Danzo did. The mistrust had been there since the aftermath of the nine tails attack all those years ago and Danzo was at the head of it. The rumor of an Uchiha controlling the nine tails seemed plausible yet after all these years, a suspect had never been found. Even though, the mistrust remained and it only seemed to grow as the years went on. Now they had gone as far as to keep the Uchiha confined to their district during this invasion.
The reason itself seemed to be no better than bullshit. If the rest of the village fell, they would supposedly be the last lines of defense. The Uchiha district hadn’t been spared from the invasion either, but they also hadn’t received any help from other members of the village. Not even the Anbu, who Fugaku had known were sent to spy on them, had even lifted a finger. Fugaku wondered how Danzo would spin this. There was no doubt in his mind that the villagers would begin to question why a majority of the Uchiha had remained in their district instead of helping defend the entire village. Even if he spoke up, it would be taken as an insult towards the elders.
“Damn that Danzo!” Fugaku heard from Yashiro’s raised voice. The ash-grey haired Uchiha knew almost as well Fugaku about the situation the clan was in. “You know as well as I that if we don’t do anything about this, the rest of villagers will...” Inabi, who was now speaking was interrupted by Yashiro, who also seemed to be in agreement. “Yes, I know!” Yashiro exclaimed before turning to face Fugaku, smacking both his palms flat on his desk. “Fugaku, the elders, the disrespect they have given towards the clan has gone too far! With all the commotion going on, the village, they will be blindsided by an attack from within. We nearly have the entire clan together, if we strike now, they wouldn’t be able to stop us!” Yashiro, always the aggressor, pleaded with Fugaku. All Fugaku was able to offer was a sigh before Tekka burst through the door.
The usually calm and collected Uchiha seemed to have some news with the way he had made his entrance. Even though he was the youngest in the room, barely over twenty, Tekka was probably the second best sensor in the clan. Shisui obviously being the first. “It’s over. The Sound forces have began to retreat.” Tekka announced to the group before taking a deep breath. “I’ve also been able to locate Shisui, he’s with the fourth...” Fugaku felt a shift in Tekka’s tone when he mentioned Minato. “How’s the fourth?” Fugaku asked about his old rival, a subtle display of concern coming out. “I could barely make out his chakra. Even Shisui’s was larger.” Tekka spoke, revealing the severity of the situation.
Yashiro seemed to be the first to speak up. “If it’s that bad, then it’s even more than enough a reason we strike now!” With no remorse coming out of his mouth, Fugaku was disgusted. “Enough! Change will happen soon but now is not the time.” Fugaku finally raised his voice, a bit angered by the disrespect Yashiro had shown towards the fourth, husband of Mikoto’s deceased friend, Kushina. Unlike the kage that had preceded him, Minato hadn’t shown the same amount of disrespect in the clan. Sure, Minato could do better, but now that wasn’t the concern. “The village requires our assistance. Now that the attack is over, there is no reason for us to remain stationary. Go out and try to assist as best you can. Send word to the rest that they are now permitted to leave the district. If they are instructed to return by anyone, tell them it was under my orders. I, myself, will go meet with the uppers to discuss the situation. Understood?” All three of them nodded before Tekka spoke up.
“What about the brat, Raiku? I noticed his chakra signal near the gate along with a few other genin level chakra.” Like always, Tekka always remained focused on his clan first. It was an exceptional trait that only those loyal to the clan would have. “If he’s that far up, then I suspect things will be fine over there.” Fugaku said, believing in Raiku’s ability to handle himself. Despite hearing from Itachi that Raiku had failed in only the first exam, Fugaku still remained confident in Raiku’s abilities. Maybe he wasn’t a prodigy like his big son, but in time Raiku’s potential would show.
Fugaku took notice that Tekka was still in the room, seemingly hesitant about something. “What is it Tekka?” Fugaku asked the young Uchiha. “What about him? The one from the Mist? You told me that it wasn’t possible but you can’t explain how he has our eyes. I may not be as skilled as Shisui, but I would like to think that my sensory skills up there. I’m not lying when I say I saw the sharingan in his eyes. And his face, he looks like the spitting image of...” Fugaku cursed under his breath before interrupting Tekka. “I know. However, you know as well as I do that’s impossible. Now do me a favor and don’t bring that boy up ever again. He’s none of your concern.” Fugaku stated, his tone basically saying that the conversation was over.
Once Tekka left the room, Fugaku sighed to himself as he began to think about the boy. Even now, his old friend had come back to haunt him in the unlikiest of forms. Fugaku smirked to himself before he made his way out the room. ‘Even now, you’re still playing games with me...’
