Ehhhh I dunno. They kinda were Allies all throughout the forest of death. They even had a talk before their fight about not killing each other. They weren’t all hatred you know XD

Madoka: To be fair, I'm pretty sure Zaku burned those bridges. Not like we had much time to build a bond as we didn't speak to each other after the forest.

Kyuu, be careful, Yasu's essentially become a different person from what I can tell. Watch how much you progressed that character over that two month period. I know full well that you can handle steady power development, but even the hair itself seemed like a speedy process on Yasu, lol.

Well, the hair is just a bunch of feathers bundled to look like hair. He already used feathers...so not much really changed.

I guess there's also the armor change, but that's more of an appearance quirk than power development.

Speaking of Chunin...

Zaku, Sagiso, Katsuo and Azumi are Chunin. Not sure if we decided Kiro was one as well or not. Just going off exam result memory.

I would write with you, but I'm disinclined to argue about it, since Sagiso treated the exams like a tourist resort.

They don’t compare. Shikamaru had her right where he wanted, and controlled her every movement. And THEN he gave up. Sagiso just...gave up. She missed the important step

She didn't flat out give up, she ran out of chakra because of an experimental move I was trying which i determined was too OP for that point in time and thus wasn't fair for a genin to use. Hence instead of decapitating Katsuo via a hidden clone, her chakra fizzled out and both the jutsu she was using to hide the clone, and the clone itself went Poof.

Actually no. They spoke during the prelims, Zaku helped her up. They spoke during the medical wing incident, and then again in the sound four chase where Zaku ‘accidentally’ saved her from an attack by reaver’s chainsaw blades

Madoka was speaking against/cursing out Zaku there, given he had just tried to kill Tomiko and had finished killing innocent nurses and medical nin on top of injured. And being struck by an attack to be "saved" is not something Madoka is gonna be much openly appreciative about given he fled right after.

The helping hand up was a nice little moment, just felt they needed more of those as most of their experiences were as enemies.

I think considering that out of Madoka's two closest friends, Zaku brutally insulted one who was hospitalized, then proceeded to hospitalize the remaining one, connections would lean heavily towards the 'enemy' side.

It's not uncaring but rather than you guys approach situations with the moral PoV of someone in the 21st Century which makes your character swift to sacrifice themselves for 'friendship', or 'moral justice' or some other Anime-MC-esque reason. My characters are just more practical-minded.

I get the reasoning, but it kinda causes your characters personalities to bleed into each other. They all seem like variations of Wyst.

Yeah, this is my big thing. Nothing that happens phases those characters. Even if a situation goes south for them, they have the exact same calm composed and practical mindset. The most we've gotten is Sagiso worrying about her sister being trapped in a cave for literally one post before going back to her usual attitude.

Doesn't make for good tension. Even Azumi had emotional bursts vs. Reaver. And she's the most practical of my cast. But just difference in styles I suppose.

Kai just about sacrificed himself for friendship, so I'm very sure :v

None of my characters are damsels, their all designed to be confident and strong-willed. Why would Baiyan even fear Reaver? On the matter of Sagiso, that's because of the tactical approach to battle that I impose on my characters. Sagiso never really felt she was at risk of dying. The closest any of my characters have been to dying is probably Baiyan.

And that is a problem IMO. If there is no risk or fear that the character might not make it, there is no tension in the fight. And it undermines what the opponent tries to do.

It's not being a damsel vs. not being one. It's about momentary cracks of emotion beyond calm composure. Sagiso was literally chakra drained and being bearhugged by Kidomaru to death yet her demeanor never changed.

Even Reaver, a guy whose persona is built on being the big scary monster, had moments where that cracked when things got hard for him.

None of my characters are damsels, their all designed to be confident and strong-willed. Why would Baiyan even fear Reaver? On the matter of Sagiso, that's because of the tactical approach to battle that I impose on my characters. Sagiso never really felt she was at risk of dying. The closest any of my characters have been to dying is probably Baiyan.

Reaver is basically a giant metal killing machine with several bloodstained trophies all around his suit from people he has killed, alongside a brander that takes their own blood and makes a trophy. Not to mention a super deep voice with sawblade extensions amongst other things. That is a serious reason to be afraid. Even Kiro was deathly afraid of him.

Even Reaver, a guy whose persona is built on being the big scary monster, had moments where that cracked when things got hard for him.

Not I agree with kyuu that not everyone needs to wet their pants just seeing Reaver, we are ninja. But in moments of struggle there should be moments where emotions other than composure leak through.
