Hubert Lee

Castelia City Gym

[Withdraw] again? Irritating, but understandable; Hubert watched as Comet's attack had minimal effect, and as the Dwebble then began to scurry around, waiting for the right time to strike.

"Easy, Comet. Let's match them with [Shadow Punch]!"

Dwebble's attack couldn't be avoided, so Hubert would respond in kind. Comet's fist now emanated a malicious aura, burning with a deep indigo as the Golett waited for Dwebble to approach. As soon as the attack came, Comet lunged as well, and fist met claw with ferocious energy. The clash caused both Pokemon to stumble back, but the Golett had sustained just a bit more damage due to the unfavorable type matchup of the attacks. Hubert, watching intently, opted to press the offensive as soon as possible, calling for a follow-up attack as soon as Comet broke away.

"Now, [Mega Punch] again!"

The Automaton Pokemon swung yet again with a glowing fist, though this time was a bit wilder and with more reckless abandon as it attempted to attack right after recoiling from the previous impact. To any typical spectator, and hopefully to Burgh himself, it was almost like Hubert wanted Comet's attack to miss...

It was strange enough that the young man was using Mega Punch when he had other options available to him and his insistence on using bored on the irrational. Nevertheless, Burgh was content to watch the two pokémon continue to trade blows.

“Dwebble, use «Rock Blast»!”

Dwebble claws sunk into the battlefield, and it began to toss claw-sized chunks of rock at the approaching Golett. Rock Blast wouldn’t be all that effective against the paritally ground type Golett, but in a battle of attrition every little bit mattered.

Hubert Lee

Castelia City Gym

Comet was slowly getting more and more frustrated. In the past few interactions, Hubert could tell that much. He would even go as far to say that a good portion of his partner's agitation could be directed toward Hubert himself. But that was just fine. In fact, Comet just needed one more push, and as Dwebble began to attack from a distance, the trainer saw his opportunity.

"We're not letting up, Comet! [Mega Punch] once more!"

Murmurs of confusion audibly began to fill the stands. Couldn't Hubert see how little damage Comet had been doing with that attack? Why was he still going for it? However, his smile didn't waver. Even the Golett seemed to hesitate for a split moment, nearly turning back to glance at its trainer incredulously, but with no more than an exasperated grunt, it dashed into the fray once again with a glowing fist.

As its chassis was pelted with debris, Comet pressed on, not giving much heed to the not very effective attack as it advanced. However, in its wild attempt to swing with the 85% accurate [Mega Punch], it failed to maintain its balance as well, and its approach was suddenly interrupted when a pothole formed by Dwebble's [Rock Blast] tripped Comet and caused it to fall to the ground with a heavy CRASH! The audience winced at the embarrassing error, but Hubert's grin only widened.

Getting a little riled up now, aren't you?

The Automaton Pokemon stumbled to its feet with a mechanized whine, now visibly upset. Its emerald eyes began to gleam with anger, and all of its grievances with how the battle had been going thus far began to bubble up within its ancient frame. Hubert didn't have to give any instruction; with a furious roar, Comet repeatedly leapt into the air, crashing into the ground with increasing force as it took out its frustrations on the field.

The ground shook beneath Dwebble's feet, and without warning, the Golett acted independently, dashing at the Rock Inn Pokemon with newfound speed to unleash a flurry of fierce blows in the form of [Stomping Tantrum]. The past failures to use [Mega Punch] to any visible effect amplified the Ground-Type move's power, which was sure to surprise both Dwebble and Burgh, considering Comet's inability to inflict any substantial damage up 'til now.

Stomping Tantrum! Now that wasn’t a move you saw very often, especially in a first-badge gym challenge. Burgh brought his hands upward and formed a picture frame, capturing the furious Golett in frame…maybe he’d paint it later. Empowered by its hidden effect, the tantrum caused the gym to rumble and ultimately, Dwebble could not withstand Golett’s fury. The rock hermit Pokémon fainted as the trembling stopped.

“Well done, well done! Let’s see how you handle my next pokémon.”

Dwebble returned to its pokéball in a flash of light and out came…Sewaddle!

“Go Sewaddle, give ‘em a taste of your «Razor Leaf»!”

The Sewaddle quickly followed suit, flinging sharpened leaves at Golett from it’s leafy hood.

Hubert Lee

Castelia City Gym

"Way to go, Comet! I knew I could count on you!"

The Golett's frustration subsided, and upon realizing it had achieved victory, its mood lightened, but Burgh had wasted no time in sending his next Pokemon, Sewaddle, and initiating an attack right away. Hubert snapped back into focus after drawing first blood and returned his attention to guiding his partner.

"No space to breathe, huh? Comet, get out of there and use [Iron Defense] again!"

Comet grunted with effort as it hurried out of the way of the incoming barrage of leaves and, once it was out of reach, reinforced its body once more to boost its defense. Now that that troublesome Dwebble had been dealt with, Hubert now had the advantage, and though he wouldn't fret too much should Comet fall here to even out the numbers, he sure wouldn't mind tacking on some extra damage before that happened.

"Let's keep up the momentum with [Shadow Punch]!"

The Golett let out a fierce warble and dashed forward, readying a shadow-cloaked fist to swing at Sewaddle once it was in range. The unavoidable attack was sure to weaken Sewaddle a good amount, coupled with its same-type-attack-boost.

While Stomping Tantrum had been a pleasant surprise, that didn’t mean Burgh was going to let Golett run away with this battle.

“Keep at it Sweaddle, «Razor Leaf»! Aim for its weaknesses!”

Razor Leaf was among the few moves with a high critical hit ratio, meaning it was precise enough to target an enemy’s weak spots and ignore their efforts to bolster their defenses. Of course, there was a great deal of luck involved in securing a critical hit, but that was a chance Burgh would have to strive for before this Golett grew any sturdier.

Sewaddle would take the Shadow Punch but a good hit from Razor Leaf should still secure it the win!

Hubert Lee

Castelia City Gym

[Shadow Punch] had made direct contact, but the Sewaddle had immediately fired off another [Razor Leaf] attack as soon as it recovered, and the sharp leaves cut their target down, kicking up dust as they collided and burst into flashes of bright green light. When the dust settled, the outcome was revealed, and Comet finally succumbed to the onslaught it weathered against both Dwebble and Sewaddle.

Hubert sucked in a sharp inhale, but he maintained an encouraging smile as he recalled the fainted Golett back into its Pokeball. Tapping it to his forehead, the trainer whispered words of praise in the hopes that his partner would hear, promising as many treats as the Automaton wished once the battle was over. Comet's Pokeball was then exchanged for another, which Hubert once again held against his forehead before he flung it onto the field.

"Let's take the lead back, Phantasm! Hit the ground running with [Acid]!"

The Pokeball opened with a flash of light to reveal Shelmet, who let out a warbling chirp before immediately puffing up its cheeks and spewing out an oozy, burnt orange stream of corrosive fluid straight at Sewaddle.

Joyce Blake

Joyce had messed up. She intended to return to Alola after her participation in the Junior Cup. Unfortunately, the girl forgot to buy a plane ticket for the way back. With no flights heading from Unova to Alola for a few days, the girl was going to be stuck in Unova for a while. Not one to let bad decisions ruin her fun, Joyce decided to take this opportunity to explore Unova instead. It might not be her original plan, but hey, it's still a new region to explore.

Due to coincidence, the young woman happened to have been in Castelia City when she caught wind that there was going to be a gym battle happening soon. Not one to miss the excitement, Joyce quickly made her way to the gym, taking her place amongst the spectators. “A live gym battle, this should be fun. You guys come out and watch too.” The girl spoke to herself as she sent out her Turtwig, Larvitar and Abra. The trio of pokemon each let out a cry of varying levels of interest as they got themselves situated to watch the gym battle unfold. “Hmm, I wonder if Wyrm would like to watch the battle as well.” Joyce pondered as she raised her Gyarados’ pokeball. An act that was quickly met with disapproving gestures from her other pokemon.

A little bit after she arrived, a boy around Joyce's age took a seat next to her. Taking a quick glance his way, the young woman noticed the large Electivire that accompanied the trainer. "Whoa, that pokemon looks pretty strong." The girl mumbled to herself after a whistle.

"I cant say I am not glad to see you so soon" Candice said as a greetings to Shiro. Ice Gym leader seemed in a honestly cheerful mood but her eyes still showed a small regret she didnt hand him the badge and his additional reward before. Still, that was Shiro wish to fight all out and win fairly, so at the time he prepared his team for her she prepared for him as well.

This second match surely would proof more challenging to both sides than the other.

"But are you ready?"

"I wont be more ready if I wait a hour or a day more.. So whats a point in that? I am a busy man, got a bunch of people to catch up to"

They picked up their pokeballs, well, Candice picked up her Nest Ball which reminded Shiro of what kind of pokemon is inside.

Oh! Burgh paused to admire the challenger’s Shelmet as it took to the field. The state of its armor and the intensity of its color were excellent tells of the bug-type’s health and on this specimen, both looked to be in great shape. Burgh could appreciate a fellow bug-type enjoyer but that didn’t mean he could go easy on Hubert.
“Go Sewaddle, use «Camouflage»!”
Sewaddle swiftly spun some thread around itself and then rolled around the gym battlefield, collecting dust and debris to cover itself with. On account of their environment being a Gym, Sewaddle had camouflaged into the normal type. This meant that when the acid landed on its outer coat, Sewaddle could better withstand the no longer super-effective hit.
“Now follow it up with «Tackle»!”
After it shook off the corrosive acid, Sewaddle shot forward to deliver a powerful Tackle attack.

Axel scanned the snow covered route leading to Snow Point City. He had planned this trip in order to access the Northern Underground. The journey up the mountain had been, as always, a long tough trek though zubats and geodudes, though mostly uneventful. He had saddled upon his Hisuian Arcanine, whose fast speeds and warm body, had made the trip a successful one. He noticed a trainer had made camp nearby and thus he dismounted the beast and made his way over knowing that grouping together usually made it easier to beat out the cold wind and snow.
"Hello there," He called out to the trainer, who seemed to have some strange steel type Pokémon he was unfamiliar with, "Do you mind if we join you for a quick rest?"
Axel began trekking with his Arcanine through the snow waiting for a response. He was mostly presentable today, only slightly covered in rock dust and dirt. His Pickaxe prominently presenting itself from his back. His long thick red hair was beginning to get powdered with snow.

"Underwater fight? Your pretty fish might be a water type, but Maya is a master of the ocean! Aqua Tail!"

The whirling waters gathered around the dragon's tail, creating a bigger and more powerful one. Maya set eyes on the Feebas and swung her empowered Aqua Tail at it. From outside a big wave broke out, smashing on the beach, getting Reina completely wet. Still, the Metztlian trainer was laughing, she was indeed having fun.

"Tony, you see that log?" Buck asked.
"Mud...?" Mudbray looked at the log.
"try hit it with double kick on it!"
"... Mud!" Tony hit the log once, making a loud CRACK! Followed by a second CRACK!
"try rock smash on that boulder"
"bray...!" Tony looked at the small boulder hesitantly but charged towards it. Smash! Buck began throwing small rocks, two at a time so he could continue to work on Tony's double kick. Occasionally asking him to throw in a mud slap as a trick shot before using double kick again. Buck had some food for the next two days and ate his food while his pokémon ate theirs. He had a sleeping bag, but no tent. His pokémon would keep him safe if anything happened and he could look up at the stars.

“We’ll see about that,” the waters surged, and it was clear that Maya was using a powerful move. Aqua Tail was physical, so they couldn’t reflect it with Mirror Coat, so that left… “Withstand it, then use «Flail»!”

The waves raged and did their best to batter against Feebas, if not for its water resistance it probably would’ve fallen there and then. Instead, it swam furiously against the currents. It wasn’t able to make much headway, but it was able to prevent itself from being swept onto the beach. As the waves from Aqua Tail died down, Feebas rushed forward, transforming its injuries into power as it raged and flailed!

Maya cried out as the Flair connected with it, sending the dragon out of the water. She wasn't expecting such a small Pokemon to have such power. The Dragonair landed inside the ocean again, actually making Reina worry a bit, before she called out for the next move.

"Okay, we're not letting that happen again, Extreme Speed!"

One would think that the ocean would slow down Maya's move, but it didn't. She shot forward like a torpedo, blasting from one side to the other. Reina looked over at Esther, "Come on, we want to fight Pyrrha!"

It didn’t take long for Īstha to float to the surface of the water: belly up and her scales reflecting the moonlight. She had done her best, even landing the best blow of the fight so far, but it was gonna take more than that to put down Reina’s Dragonair and Īstha just didn’t have any more juice left in the tank.

“Tch, return!” That was two down, almost three with the damage Susu had taken and not a lot to show for it. Her best option really was Pyrrha but… well, the drake wasn’t going to see a lot of battles after Johto until they could get an everstone so her last battle might well be a bang!

“Alright, fine! You asked for it!” The first pokéball on Esther’s waist shook and Esther agreed. Just because they were stronger they thought they could run through their team? Pyrrha’s pokéball felt hot against her palm and through their bond Esther could tell the drake burned with excitement. Was it the fact that Maya was a strong opponent? Or perhaps was it the fact that she was going head-to-head with another dragon? Maybe it was even Esther’s own excitement feeding into her through their connection.

Whatever the case, Pyrrha had never been more eager to battle, and Esther had every intention to oblige her. Unclipping the first pokéball from her waist, Esther let it fly high! “Pyrrha, pyrrichios! Hammer them with «Dragon Tail»!”

The pokéball burst open in mid-air and Pyrrha’s tail was already awash with draconic energy, glowing purple as she tucked into a roll and came barreling downward to slam her opponent with Dragon Tail.

Celia knew they had to end this battle soon. They were dropping like Cutiflies! Seda probably went down to that nasty Air Slash. Luan was only standing here fighting due to the Life Dew and being saved by the Lucario. Then there was the trainer she presumed was Monty and his plan. It was similar to her original plan. The one that nearly got her and Psy kidnapped. The Yanmega was far faster now. No human could feasibly outrun this Yanmega. Monty's plan was going to get him or one of his Pokemon killed if she didn't act fast. But she had to be sure the Yanmega would go down with no issues. Call it greedy, call it cautious, Celia had a game plan. "Work up. We're going to take it out right here, right now." Luan nodded, and red energy surrounded him once more. Then, Dawn's Wish came true. It wasn't entirely needed anymore thanks to the Life Dew, but it was nice to have that extra energy. She let Dawn back out. "Dawn, Helping Hand on Luan, please. Luan, go straight for the Blaze Kick, we need the Helping Hand to help power it up there. Luan, if it doesn't go down, Endure." The two nodded, Dawn did her little Helping Hand ritual then passed the energy to Luan. Luan ran towards the Yanmega, knowing he probably wasn't on its radar anymore. With narrowed eyes and coursing with energy, he launched into what he hoped to be the final attack.

Elsie smiled at her new companions. "I'm Elsie Titanlia, and my Sentret friend is Alvin. He was born pink, and I regulate his diet. Had him forever now. Also, thanks. Going alone isn't my idea of fun." As she entered the Park, she wondered if she would see any Fairy-Types. She was a Fairy-Type trainer, after all! Getting a good Fairy-Type was one of her main priorities. Also, some dread filled her when they said that they were going over to Mikan Island next. Part of her research told her that the gyms on Orange Islands had special challenges, and this one involved the move Water Gun. She didn't like the idea of catching a Pokemon that she might never actually use other than a single gym. She hoped that she could get her hands on an Azurill, Marill, or Popplio before then, but she wouldn't count her luck. Then she had to consider the surfing part of the gym. That... isn't going to be fun. The only water/fairy Pokemon big enough for that would be Primarina, and no way she could handle a Primarina! Yeah, this wasn't going to be fun for her. But those were future Elsie's problems. All she had to worry about at the moment was making a good impression on her new friends.

Reina's smile was as bright as ever as they were finally going to face Esther's best. She watch as Pyrrha emerged into the air and prepared a move both Reina and Maya knew too well.

"Match it with your own Dragon Tail!"

Maya let out a cry as her tail gathered energy, her eyes watching the incoming dragon carefully. Once Pyrrha was close enough, Maya swung her tail upward to collide with her opponents.

The impact sent sand and water flying all over, forcing Reina to protect her eyes. "Maya! Are you okay?!"

The dragon hit the beach, her body dragged along sand from the impact. She stood up though, swirling around her trainer and making sure she was okay from the sand. Reina laughed and urged her to go on, allowing Maya to slither forward and face her opponent.

"That was amazing! Let's see you deal with this! Thunder Wave!"

Dragonair gathered electricity on to her horn and then sent waves of blues electricity towards Pyrrha.

The Sucker Punch from Spidops had been pathetic. Even if Spidops weren’t an inferior bug type, it couldn’t hope to match up to the strength of Yanmega. It was the strongest of its flight, the only one to break that barrier and achieve an elevated form. Yanmega had taken great glee in blasting the uppity arachnid with Air Slash as it left itself open to counterattack, its noodle limbs hardly even denting Yanmega’s tough carapace.

The next attack though, that had actually shocked it as nightslash cleaved deep. Yanmega was furious, but the Absol was just as quick to flee as she had been to take advantage of momentary distraction. “Coward!”

And yet, Yanmega could no longer afford to pay attention to Absol as a new presence appeared on the battlefield—something immense, powerful, ancient. Yanmega whirled around to face Azumi’s Tyrantrum, the most threatening thing present to its senses. There was a smaller threat, that little blue thing once again trying to hit it with a fire-type attack. The attack was much stronger than before and would’ve dealt some serious damage if it managed to hit. Unfortunately, the blue thing had no support, no assistance, and no aid; Yanmega wasn’t distracted in the slightest and it was faster than ever thanks to its Speed Boost. Yanmega couldn’t imagine how this Blue thing thought it would land a blow without any assistance from its allies, but nevertheless, Yanmega was happy to eviscerate it with an Air Slash. Maybe this time it woulld finally stay down.

The rebound from the collision sent Pyrrha careening to the sound as the dragon’s disengaged. The wrym was quick to scramble to her feet, claws dug into the sand as shook the partices from her scales and gave a mute roar of challenge! Esther knew that the dragon typing was a double-edged sword in this battle; it would help them deal big damage, but it would also make them suffer big damage as well. They had to strike first, and they had to strike hard.

“Ha! As if—«Protect»!”

Lightning cracked and danced across the sand but as it reached Pyrrha it had no choice but to crackle impotently around the translucent barrier she had conjured. Thunderwave would be a troublesome move to counteract, and it would all but seal the match if it landed. They had to apply the pressure!

“Now «Scale Shot»!”

As Pyrrha’s shield dropped the dragon shook her body, embuing her scales with dragon-type energy and whipping them towards Maya with flicks of her tail. The shed scales lightened her body, making her faster at the cost of defense. It was a risky move, but anythinig to close the gap on those killer extreme speeds!

Luan threw up an Endure as soon as he missed the attack. All of that prep, gone to waste. Celia could feel Luan's aggravation. If she didn't feel his aggravation, she was sure she would've felt the same way. She knew they could attempt this again, they just had to try again when the Yanmega was fully distracted. "Luan, hold your position. Wait for it to get distracted again and don't let your guard down until then." The speed was a huge problem, and the only way she could deal with it was to bring Psy out again, and Psy wasn't a Pokemon she wanted to bring out here again. Not after what happened last time he used String Shot. The mandibles shooting out the sticky silk as it wrapped around her still filled her with terror. Instinctively she knew what was going on, that if it had finished that, her journey would've made an abrupt end. Psy was with her. She felt his terror as well. Honestly, she was still scared now. She wanted to just have Luan go in for another Blaze Kick, to try to go in recklessly, but she knew that could very well just make Luan its next meal instead. She was quite adept at hiding fear. At masking a calm composure. She always had to be. Celia knew that they had to slow down the Yanmega, though. She sent Psy back out. "Psy, String Shot the Yanmega. Be very careful. Dawn, be ready to set up Luan again." She looked to the other trainers. "Luan, my Riolu, is powered up with two Work Ups and a Howl. All we need to do is get one good Blaze Kick to connect, and it should be over. It needs to be distracted, though. Or maybe greatly slowed down."

Beatrice Esperanza Lazlo

Although the Spidops’ attack had landed, the results of said hit were far from desirable. With the attack leaving her open, Seda had no way to defend herself as she felt a sharp pain hit her body. The Yanmega's Air Slash dealt a devastating wound on the other bug type, sending her falling down to the ground. However, before the Spidops would hit the ground, her body would be touched by a red beam, turning the Trap pokemon into a mass of red light before being absorbed into her pokeball.

Beatrice furrowed her brows as she withdrew her Spidops. "Crud, I made a miscalculation. That was my mistake." She said out loud. Following that, the young woman pressed her index finger on her forehead, trying to decide what to do next. After a few seconds, her eyes returned to the battlefield. "Simply attacking is not going to work, let's change our strategy." She concluded.

"Wattz, I'm counting on you. Move in!" The girl declared. With a gleeful expression, the Plasma pokemon dashed towards the center of conflict, quickly closing in on the Yanmega. "Now! Double Team!" Just as the Rotom looked like it was going to collide with the opposing bug type, the Electric Ghost type pokemon would suddenly split and multiply. The myriads of Rotom surrounded the Yanmega, staying on the move to keep the Bug type's focus spread.

As this happened, Beatrice overheard the Riolu's trainer speak. Her plan was simple, and it wasn't a guarantee that her attack would end the battle as she claims. Nonetheless, that didn't mean it was a bad idea, certainly better than continuing this chaotic slugfest. Besides, even if the attack doesn't take down the Yanmega, it will likely still deal some good damage to it. "Wattz, slow it down with Thunder Wave!" Hearing its trainer's words, the many Rotom copies quickly began vibrating their arm appendages in front of them, releasing rings of yellow electricity at the opposing Yanmega.

"Oh no you don't!" Reina raised her fist in the air, "Show them true speed."

Maya gained a pink glow as she slithered forward, moving faster each second as Agility took effect. The scales exploded as they hit the sand, but Maya weebed around them, taking damage from the scales impacting the area around her, but not slowing her down!

"Maya, smash her to the ground!"

The Dragonair lunged towards the smaller dragon. Ready to wrap around Pyrrha and slam her to the ground.

Milliana Barlowe, Unranked, Route 217, June 22nd.

Milliana had just finished rechecking Duraludon's injuries and looked to see a boy about as tall as her, if not a little taller, and a strange looking Pokémon, kind of reminded her of Arcanine. As Sandshrew hid behind her leg, rather nervous of the Pokémon in front of them, Duraludon stood to full height, which was twice her own.

"I-I d-don't m-mind," Milliana responded to the boy, "S-Sandshrew s-seems a-a b-bit n-nervous, D-Duraludon h-here i-is a-a b-bit i-injured a-after a-an e-encounter w-with a G-Gyarados, h-heads u-up, i-if y-you're g-going a-anywhere n-near L-lake A-acuity, t-there m-may b-be a N-new C-crater."

Klefki then flew right in front of the boy's face. Duraludon pulled the Floating Keyring away from the boy's face.

"S-sorry a-about K-klefki," Milliana responded about her Pokémon, "M-my N-name is M-Milliana B-Barlowe, w-what i-is y-your n-name."
Axel, Route 217, June 22nd

The boy smiled at the key-ring Pokemon and the massive Duraladon next to it, who he found slightly intimidating, before introducing himself and the Pokémon behind him.
"Its nice to meet you Milliana, I'm Axel, and this is my trusty Arcanine. I'm sorry to hear you got in a scuffle, could I perhaps offer to make you a fire and help heal your friend Duraladon? My Clefairy is such a sweetheart and you must be freezing out here in the snow like this. "
Courage and heat emanated from the rugged looking Arcanine behind him, which stood only a little taller than Axel. Axel still kept up his smile as the flurries kept dusting his features. He was accustomed to the cold a bit as he hike the mountain quite often but he knew he would also need a fire soon as well.

Adaptable as ever, Burgh had avoided the risk of taking super effective damage and allowed Sewaddle to press through the neutral attack before unleashing a counter in [Tackle]. Hubert clicked his tongue and thought fast, weighing his options as fast as he could before making a move.

"Phantasm, use [Curse]!"

As Sewaddle approached, the Shelmet let out a low growl, and he was suddenly doused in a deep, malicious aura, emanating around him for a few seconds before it suddenly absorbed into his body, coursing through him with a pulsating hum. Sewaddle's attack soon reached its target, and Phantasm flinched as the two made contact, but the inflicted damage was now muted, courtesy of [Curse] having boosted his defense, along with his attack. His speed had fell, but Hubert hadn't planned on running from this interaction.

"Now, [Struggle Bug]!"

As the two Pokemon were locked in their clash, Phantasm then began to glow with a bright green light before beginning to, well, struggle, thrashing about and crashing into Sewaddle repeatedly.

An old song ran through Monty's head as he watched the blonde girl's little blue dog jump at the Yanmega. "WAI-"

Bum-bum-bum...Another one bites the dust!

"-...shit." Like hearing thunder after seeing lightning, the insect predictably met the blue dog's attack with its own. The Air Slash was just as devastating as the one against the spider, and the man gritted his teeth as he watched the situation deteriorate even further. What would Michel do when a job went awry? What would Antoine do?

The crew all had to be on the same page, to start. Luckily, the blonde girl's plan was a solid start. His gaze didn't leave the Yanmega, watching as a swarm of orange lightning bolts circled around it. The work of that other girl's Pokémon? Shit, if they surrounded the monster it would probably use another area of eff—

Wait! That was it!

"We'll draw out another wide attack!" Monty shouted to the other two trainers. It would be a gamble, but as he saw it their options were narrowing. "While it's focused on everything around it, it won't be watching what's above it!" To the blonde girl, he added, "That's where you come in. Oracle—" He pointed to the bristling Absol and her clones. "—can get Luan into position above it with Quick Attack, then they'll attack while its distracted. We'll keep it's focus down here in the mean time."

All or nothing...just Monty's style. His partner, on the other hand, was skeptical. The Riolu's first attack didn't even connect, so now it needed her help? When she could just get the satisfaction of tearing the insect apart herself? She glared at useless Monty, and he opened his useless mouth to say, "Just get it there. If it doesn't take the Yanmega down, you can finish it off."

The Absol narrowed her eyes. Very well. She'd prove the stupidity of the plan, then steal the glory for herself. Oracle stalked over to the blue dog, ready to grab it by the scruff when the moment presented itself, while her clones dashed in toward the Yanmega. They LEAPT! up with black-glowing horns; a phantom <<Night Slash>> from all sides.

Huh? It was getting even faster? Esther snorted; she should’ve known Reina would be packing a move like that. Between Maya’s increased speed and Extreme Speed, it would be almost impossible to nail the dragon. She had to think of something and quick. Maybe she could… “Hold steady Pyrrha!”

Pyrrha tensed as Maya closed in, doing nothing to stop the dragon as she wrapped around her and hoisted her for a slam. Esther licked her lips—she sure hoped this worked.

“Now Pyrrha, trap it with «Protect»!”

Even as she was slammed to the ground, Pyrrha threw up a protect. It did nothing to stop her from hitting the sand hard, but the barrier had been thrown up around Maya who was practically on top of her. What did that mean? “She’s got nowhere to run—Pyrrha, squeeze in then «Dragonbreath»!”

Protect began to shrink down as Pyrrha forced Maya even closer, then as the barrier began to fade, gouts of dragon fire began to spill from Pyrrha’s jaws, even if she were faster there was no way Maya could avoid a face-full of dragonbreath! Or at least, that was the hope. Extra points for paralysis on dragon breath, that would really swing the fight in their favor!

"Ouch!" Reina called out as she watched Maya take the Dragon Breath completely. "That's fine, we can take it!"

Maya growled as she shook off the dragon's attack. But now Pyrrha had no where to run to. Her orb lit up as she prepared to blast away the smaller lizard with a Twsiter, but she didn't move. Static covered Maya's body, not allowing her to move!

"Shake it off Maya! Thunder Wave again!"

Maya cried out as her horn lit up and began sending electrical waves again.

This kid really loved boosting his defenses, huh? Well, every trainer was allowed to run whatever strategies they wanted to overcome the challenge of the gyms. Still, that didn’t mean Burgh was thrilled when a battle seemed poised to drag out. Whatever the case, Sewaddle was eventually thrown off Shelmet as it struggled for all it was worth. That was fine—“Use «String Shot» then «Tackle» once more! Knock it over!”

Sewaddle sucked in a deep breath and spat out a glob of sticky thread. The threading would stick to the Shelmet and slow its movements, but more importantly, if Sewaddle could knock Shelmet over then the sticky threads would keep Shelmet flat on its side, glued to the ground in such a way that its stubby little legs would not be useless. Once the Shelmet was stuck, like a Torkoal that had been flipped on its shell, Sewaddle could finish it off at leisure.

That was some real wishful thinking on Reina’s part and some great luck for them! Maya seizing up in paralysis had given Pyrrha more than enough time to catch her breath and swing her next move. “Knock ‘em senseless, «Dragon Tail»!” Pyrrha struggled out of Maya’s slackened coils, her tail glowing as she prepared to slam home a Dragon Tail right on the Dragonair’s horn. She wasn’t able to avoid the surge of thunderwave, but their luck seemed a bit better than Reina’s and Pyrrha didn’t seize with electricity.

"Blast her away!"

Maya locked eyes with Pyrrha. She was about to make her wish she had left. Maya's orb glowed with dragon energy as a Twister developed around them, not only would Pyrrha get sucked away, but Maya would remain safely in the center.

" We're not going down that easily!" Reina shouted as the vortex made the dragons disappear from view.

Hm... well, that plan had been a bust.

Phantasm, now much too slow to move around and avoid attacks, couldn't defend against the Sewaddle's incoming [String Shot], which quickly encased the Snail Pokemon in sticky thread and left it susceptible to the following [Tackle]. According to Burgh's plan, the Shelmet was swiftly toppled, and it wasn't long until a few more [Tackle] attacks finished the job. Heaving a sigh, Hubert maintained a grin, though it was now considerably more somber, and as he recalled Phantasm, he murmured words of encouragement for him as well, as he'd done for Comet.

"Don't worry; you did the best you could. You'll get a whole lot stronger before you know it, I promise. Rest easy."

Down to his last Pokemon. His ace in the hole. As he held Reaper's Pokeball in his hand, he could feel his partner's spirit, and no words were needed for them to be of the same mind. The capsule shook with anticipation, and Hubert held it to his forehead, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. When his eyes opened, his hazel irises shone with determination, and his confident smile returned in full force as he summoned his final ally, hurling the Pokeball onto the field.

"Wouldn't be fun if it didn't go down to the wire, would it? Reaper, let's do what we do, and get started with [Hone Claws]!"

Bursting out from the capsule with blinding azure light, the Skorupi entered the field with a shrill, ferocious screech, and as soon as he landed, he wasted no time in sharpening his claws, honing them to a wicked point until they practically gleamed in the stadium light. With his attack and accuracy now increased, Hubert immediately pressed the offensive, aiming to knock out Sewaddle and drag out Burgh's final Pokemon as soon as possible.

"Sewaddle's weak thanks to Comet and Phantasm; let's make sure their efforts don't go to waste! [Poison Fang]!"

Reaper snarled and lunged forward, skittering swiftly toward Sewaddle as his fangs began to glow with violet energy and drip with venom, and as soon as he was in range, the Scorpion Pokemon aimed to land a direct hit and deal boosted super effective damage.

Pyrrha was thrown back by the sudden twister, skipping across the sand until she came to a halt in a sandy crater. Was she down for the count? Esther could see that the repeated clashes had done a number on her partner. Her scales were a patchwork of missing and outright shattered; even if you considered the scales she’d shed during Scale Shot, it was obvious the damage was racking up. Pyrrha struggled to her feet, pawing through the unsteady sand falling once as her footing failed her, but stubbornly rising again. Esther remained silent, only flooding their bond with pride, silent cheer, and encouragement.

Eventually, Esther’s little wyrmling stood tall once more. She stared up at Maya, her gaze defiant. Though she stood, her legs trembled. Despite her endless fighting spirit, there was only so much damage her body could withstand…her trembles intensified! Pyrrha thrashed her scales clattering against each other as she kicked up a clamour. It was a valiant final hurrah, but Esther could feel Pyrrha’s weakness and exhaustion through their bond. They’d lost but at least Pyrrha had gotten a chance to—

Pyrrha’s body erupted with white light! Esther’s eyes widened the exhaustion she’d sensed on the other side of their bond was obliterated but a sudden wellspring of power. It didn’t take a genius to understand what was happening—Pyrrha was evolving! Horror, Guilt, Regret! Esther wore a mask of distress as what she’d spent the last few days trying to avoid now arrived with inevitability. She had let her emotions get the best of her, that combativeness and drive to compete that had only been strengthened by her empathic bond with Pyrrha. How could she possibly have risked her partner’s future and well-being on something like this?

The Oblivian’s shoulders slumped. She didn’t even have the heart to scream, instead, the words slipped from her mouth like a man’s dying rasp—“Oh no…”

Pyrrha was at the peak of her glow, like a star fallen to the sand. Any moment now she would metamorphosize and transform into—Huh? The faintest sense of something firm and unyielding trickled through their bond—it tasted of…resolution. Pyrrha’s glow re-doubled the light of her evolution illuminating the entire beach until…with nary a sound or scene the light broke away and revealed Pyrrha once more. Still a Jangmo-o, still unevolved.

Esther was beyond confused. What had happened?

Whatever it was, it needed to wait. The sense of exhaustion she now sensed from Pyrrha was simply overwhelming, so much so that Esther staggered and nearly collapsed. But while Esther was able to catch herself, Pyrrha slumped into the sand—out cold. Several moments passed while Esther stared, unblinking, at her partner. Pyrrha had done…something—she didn’t know what—but whatever it was, this time she had been the one cleaning up Esther’s mistake.

Without a word, Esther returned Pyrrha to her pokéball. That was close.

“What a reckless trainer I am….” Esther shook her head and chuckled deprecatingly. After a short kiss goodnight, she snapped Pyrrha’s pokéball back onto her waist and then turned to Reina.

“Sorry about that, we’ve got some…growing pains. This will probably be the last time I see you for a while, so I don’t wanna bother you with my problems. Don’t worry about it. Ready to continue?” Esther’s expression had firmed and her next pokémon was already chosen; she only had two left who could but she knew her next choice would be—“Howl, Kasriel—use «Snarl»!”

The Galarian Zigzagoon took to the field excitedly, yipping twice before he let out a vicious sound, filled with dark energy.

Another bug type? Burgh could say he was pleasantly surprised by Hubert’s repertoire of pokémon. He would be a fine bug trainer one day and this gym battle would be his first step! It was only now, when the pressure mounted that he and his pokémon could dig deep and excavate all their potential. Burgh was but a humble whet, he would do his job and ensure Hubert came out the other side all that much sharper.

“Don’t let up Sewaddle, «Tackle»!”

The Bug pokémon collided, but invariably, Sewaddle was doomed to fall. It had done more than enough. Burgh returned Sewaddle to its pokéball and then called on his final pokémon.

“Go Karrablast! Start us off with «Peck»!”

The clamping pokémon chittered as it took to the field, its horn glowing white as it lowered its head and charged its foe!

"Whoa is that what I think it is?!" Reina's eyes gleamed brightly as the light from the evolution reflected in them. "That's amazing!"

Reina closed her eyes as Pyrrha became too bright. Even Maya had to look away. However, both were very confused when they saw, nothing had happened.

"Don't worry about it?!" Reina almost scolded Esther. "That seems like something serious!"

There wasn't time to discuss since Esther's next Pokémon was out on the field. The Snarl did what it needed to, causing shivers to go down Maya's spine. The dragon didn't take too kindly though as she once again vanished.

"Looks like Maya is a tiny bit upset." Reina laughed nervously.

The dragon had moved behind Esther, letting out a growl as she flew past her and prepared to smash her water covered tail on the Zigzagoon.

Esther didn’t respond to Reina’s questions; instead, she focused on the battle at hand. Maya was coming in strong with another Aqua Tail but thankfully, she was much slower than she could’ve been. Paralysis was really putting in the work. “Go Kasriel, meet it with «Take Down»!”

They couldn’t play things safely. Maya was just too strong and fast. What they needed was to apply as much pressure as possible to rack up damage and maybe take Maya down with them. It wasn’t something any single one of Esther’s pokémon could do, but all of them?

Esther watched as Kasrieal launched himself off the ground and slammed into the incoming Aqua Tail! Kasriel was blown backward by the collision, but he wasn’t out of the fight—“Follow up with «Pin Missile»!”

They couldn’t let Maya catch her breath. Kasriel shook his body, sending strands of fire rocketing off the bombard Maya’s location. If they got lucky with paralysis they could get in a few more clean hits, but even without that luck Esther knew she’d need to make Maya & Reina fight for every bit of damage from here on out.

Maya shook of the hit from her opponent, the stack of successful hits finally starting to wear down the dragon. She watched as a Pin Missle was shot towards her, something she could easily avoid but, paralyzed. She closed her eyes while the needles impacted her body, it wasn't much damage, but it still stung!

"Move in, Agility!"

Maya locked down her opponent, ready to mover towards him, but once again static traveled through her body, not allowing her to move!

Kasriel turned up the charm, emitting fairy enery from its eyes to blunt Maya’s fill to fight and dull her edge. That would go a long way to preventing Maya from ploughing Esther’s team with its powerful attacks! Still, that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to capitalize on Maya’s paralysis.

“Now, once more—«Snarl»!”

“Once more Kasriell, «Take Down»!”

As Kasriel threw itself recklessly into the in-coming Aqua Tail Esther knew this clash wouldn’t end as well as the last one. Though Kasriel did his best when he was knocked back by the rebound of the collision, this time he stayed down. Not surprising, even with some attack drops that Dragonair was still a beast.

Esther returned Kasriel. This was it…her last pokémon, it was do or die. “Alae alae, Halay! «Sucker Punch»!”

Halay came in with a flash of light, a flash that briefly illuminated the Houndour before she all but vanished into the darkness. Her pitch-black fur rendered her nearly invisible and even Esther had to squint to pick out her white bone plating. When Halay blurred into motion though, Esther completely lost track of her. When Houndour reappeared, she was a string of afterimages, circling Maya until suddenly—she stuck!

While Cubchoo was waving goodbye in his friend's direction. Shiro smile disappeared for a second. He thought over his tactic again when his new friend left and then headed to the gym.

No one.. Not even Arceus himself would have seen such bullshit before as he would get to see at this moment.
Gym was full... Trainers were waiting in what seemed to be half a mile of a line. He wouldnt have a glimpse of Hope to get to fight today.

"Well I will be... Even broken Mirror looks more Lucky than me today..."

Then a black cat... Purrloin looked in Shiro direction and ran away.

"The hell? Purrloins are avoiding me now!?" He sighed, he could hear Cubchoo giggles as he sat on his shoulder.
"Aaaaaa! Screw it! I am just gonna come tommorow then I guess! May send a message to Milliana though..." As he said, he has done so and after sending to his new friend an SMS which told her it was him writing to her and situation at the gym. He decided to go somewhere and train...

As he made that decision a snów fell from nearby tree and onto his head.

"Cubb... Cho! Cho! Choo!" Glacier couldnt hold it anymore, as small bear was dying out of laughter his Trainer was pissed.
"Oh! Stop it! You sound like a train" Shiro said annoyed. "Whats next? Aeriel Ace is gonna Miss?" He looked around then at Cubchoo and Glacier looked at him. Cubchoo smirked... Can Cubchoo smirk?

"Dont answer that"
