An RP that intrigues me, and starts on my birthday too? Well, that's sure caught my eye!

Name: Shanya 'Colored' Harika
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Trainer Class: A mix of Battler and Coordinator.
Physical Appearance: Standing at 5'2, Shanya (or Colored as she likes to be called) isn't that remarkable physically. She's got typical weight for her age, and a rather pale skintone too. Her eyes are a natural hazel and she keeps her shoulder length, brown hair tied up in a ponytail most of the time. The only thing slightly interesting about her appears to be a scar above her left eye.
Clothing: Colored takes surprising pride in her appearance. She always wears an oversized purple hoodie with rosy pink trousers beneath it, and Velcro sneakers that are the same shade of purple as her hoodie. She... didn't learn how to tie shoelaces. Colored also has a glittery silver backpack with her at all times which mostly contains info on her team as well as other important items.
Personality: A mix of sweet and sour, if you would. Colored, for the most part, is introverted and very reserved with all that she does. Nobody ever seems to notice her, and she's honestly quite happy with that. But Colored can also be very snappy and rude at times, often accidentally becoming aggressive as well, although that's quite rare. But putting that aside, Colored is gentle and pure of heart no matter how you see her.
Backstory: Despite being named Shanya at birth, some online testing had made Shanya forget all about her real name and become her online persona instead: Colored. Being raised in Galar's Stow-on-Side, she learnt to stand her ground in the rustic town despite having to run most errands for the house she lived in. But one passion Colored couldn't shake was Pokémon, and boy did she want in on it. Yet it wasn't until she was 13 did she be granted permission to go off and find one.
This came in the form of a summer-break vacation she took that year to Colored's old home in Unova's Castelia City, where she took extreme caution in finding a lifelong partner. And eventually, she did find that one Pokémon her heart latched on to: a Snivy that was wandering through the woods not too far from Castelia.
On returning to Stow-on-Side later that year, Colored slowly built up a team she was happy to call her own and eventually felt ready to set foot into the world on her own accord after learning all she needed to know. Did she know what she was going to do? Nope, but that wasn't going to stop her from finding something out.
Starter: Dawn, a Snivy. Female with the moves Tackle, Leaf Blade, Vine Whip and Growth.
Other Members:
Drip, a male Vaporeon.
Surf, Water Gun, and Bubble Beam.

Mocha, a female Kantonian Vulpix.
Ember, Tail Whip, Growl and Will-O-Wisp

Nino, a male Heliolisk.
Parabolic Charge, Thunderbolt, Dig and Dragon Tail.

Puffy, a female Cincinno.
Echoed Voice, Sing, Charm and Pound.
Welcome Alt~ Accepted.

Could we give out prize money in the bug catching contest? Or do we keep the regular prizes? Also how can we do the bug catching contest, do we all decide on the winner? do we rng it? do we rp catching level 22 Caterpies in one throw?
The Bug Catching Contest would be an event, and you would be free to decide on the prizes as long as they didn't go above the rank limitations.

You would have to decide on the rules yourselves since you're the ones making the event. Feel free to discuss them with anyone else who shows interest in the event.

I would suggest a limited number of high-value bug Pokemon (maybe three or so) and then ask one of the other RPers to control them, maybe a Scyther or Pinsir; and, that RRper would do their best to evade capture by the participants. Whoever managed to catch the bug Pokemon becomes the ultimate victor. And positions would be decided by whoever caught their bug first—so the first person to catch a Pinser/Scyther would be first, the second person to catch would be second, etc.

This may be a bit of a long shot, mostly due to my own thoughts that I’d rather not state, but I was considering a league like the Coronation series but for Contests at some point, kind of to mimic the battling version of the league. It would be quite smaller than the battling series, maybe 50,000 members? Ranking would be laid out like so:
Normal: 50,000 - 30,000
Great: 29,999 - 10,000
Ultra: 9,999 - 5,000
Hyper: 4,999 - 1,000
Platinum: 999 - 100
Chroma: 99 - 11
Master: 10-1
Battles would be laid out like a normal Contest Battle in the anime, with gauges on the Coordinator’s devices to mark everything. Same beauty, skill and battle in general to keep the show rolling beautifully!
It’s been eight years, so I’d like to believe it’s at least a bit of a clever idea. But at the same time, it could also be kinda bogus for whatever reason.

I like it! I think you should stick to 5 ranks though, and you could use the Contest Ranks, Normal/Super/Hyper/Master with one more to round things out. Master rank should also stay 8 (because it makes a perfect bracket for a tournament just like in the World Coronation Series.)

I think it's a great idea and there's definitely more room to flesh things out since Contests are more complex than Battles. Since we do have a Pokemon Performer, I think it would be cool to include them in some way. Personally, I planned to have Esther pick up tricks from both Coordinators and Performers.

Finally finished a bio! Sorry for the delay, I didn’t have much time and I’m also trying out a detailed backstory for the first time.
Name: Frances (Fanny) Copeland
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Trainer Class: Cabbie
Physical Appearance and Clothing:
Fanny is 5’7” with a light build and a medium complexion. She has sustained heavy scarring on her lower legs and left forearm, as well as the back of her neck. Because of this, she generally wears long sleeves and allows her black hair to drape past her shoulders. Her bangs are lightly swept to one side. As for clothing, Fanny wears the signature trousers, brown shoes, and brown aviator coat of the Galarian Corviknight cabbies. When flying, she also wears an aviator cap with goggles over her muddy yellow eyes.
Backstory:
Frances was raised on Akala Island in the Alola region. She lived with her aunt and younger cousin and was given a modest but comfortable upbringing. As a child, she was quite taken with the Pokemon battles she saw on TV. Unfortunately, her family did not have enough money to invest in a powerful Pokemon team and battle gear. Fanny knew this, and dreamt of working her way up from the bottom.

At the age of eleven, Fanny partook in the Island Challenge, as was expected of all children in the Alola region. She received her first Pokemon, Sandile, for free from a Pokemon breeder in Ula’ula island; it was a newly hatched specimen that did not live up to the highly competitive standards of the breeding industry. Although he was not deemed worthy of the highest level of competitive battle, “Sobek” was still a well bred Pokemon with a powerful fighting instinct. Fanny was confident that she could go far with Sobek’s potential.

Fanny surmounted the first trial with relative ease. This victory, while only the first step in the path towards completing the Island Challenge, pleased her greatly. It was evidence that, perhaps, there really was a chance that she would eventually become a top level trainer. However, her celebration was short-lived. Sobek was utterly outmatched by the powerful water Pokemon of the second trial.

Fanny attempted the trial several times, and only came close to winning once. Sobek had managed to fight his way to the very end of the trial, where he faced off against the gigantic totem Wishiwashi. The huge Pokemon had no problem shrugging off the little Pokemon’s bites and scratches, and was comfortably winning the battle‒until something happened. Wishiwashi landed a particularly powerful blow on Sobek, which sent the poor Sandile flying backwards. As Sobek staggered to his feet, Fanny immediately realized that something was wrong. The Sandile’s eyes had flared red, and it seemed as if every muscle in his body was tensed to its very limit.

Before Fanny could even comprehend what she was seeing, Sobek was on Wishiwashi, ripping savagely at the totem’s flesh. As she watched foam and blood fly from her Sandile’s snapping jaws, Fanny was reminded of a rabid Houndoom. It scared her.

Wishiwashi was eventually able to defeat Sobek. Later, as Sobek was getting healed at the Pokemon Center, Fanny confessed to the nurse about the strange incident during the battle. The nurse reassured her that it was perfectly normal‒for a Pokemon with Anger Point as its ability.

Fanny was eventually able to pass the second trial after coming to the realization that with Sobek alone, the matchup was impossible. After bartering with other trainers for a new Pokemon, Fanny was eventually able to purchase a wild caught Beldum for relatively cheap (as non-bred Pokemon usually were). With “Nugget” on the team, Fanny was able to scrape by the water trial and continue on her journey.

After each trial, whether an easy victory or a hard won battle, Fanny grew a little more confident. She was starting to get a feel for her Pokemon and how they liked to fight, and was becoming adept at using each of them to their maximum potential. She was making it, one battle at a time. By the end of the sixth trial, Fanny was feeling better than ever.

That day, everything changed. As Fanny and her two Pokemon emerged from the abandoned Megamart, jubilant over their victory, a great hole opened in the skies over Alola. This was a day that would go down in legend: the day that the creatures known as Ultra Beasts descended over the Alola Region

Fanny didn’t encounter an Ultra Beast that day. Sometimes she wonders what would have happened if she did. Maybe things would have gone differently.

When the wormhole opened in the sky, wild Pokemon immediately began to flee for cover. Fanny’s last memories from that day were those of her and her Pokemon being struck by a flock of fleeing Pikipek. Everything that followed was a blur. There were foaming jaws and flaring red eyes. The sound of metal being broken apart and crushed. Tears of fear and confusion. And finally, the pain and sorrow of being shredded in the jaws of her best friend.

Fanny spent the next two years in the hospital, healing from her wounds. Luckily, her vital organs were relatively untouched, and the only permanent damage she had sustained were to her legs and left arm. It took months of physical therapy for these limbs to return to an acceptable level of functionality. In the end, Fanny considered herself lucky that she had managed to get off with nothing but scars.

Nugget, her Metang, had sustained far worse damage. Since he was a steel type, it was possible to reconstruct much of his shell, but it would be a long time before he was back to full strength.

Sobek was found defeated near the scene of the incident. Interestingly enough, whichever Pokemon that had managed to defeat him left him with heavy bite wounds, so no one suspected what had really happened. When Fanny was questioned, she claimed that she was attacked from behind and never got a good look at her assailant. She did not blame Sobek for what had happened, but resolved to find a way to protect herself in the future.

Fanny was often visited by her aunt in the hospital, and told her the truth. Her aunt was‒reasonably‒worried about allowing her to continue her career as a Pokemon trainer. After Fanny pleaded for her not to forbid her from battling, her aunt decided to allow her to continue on one condition: that Fanny would bring her Togekiss along with her for protection. “Hurricane” was a strong and experienced Pokemon with a perfect type matchup against Sobek, and could easily handle the Krokorok if things got out of hand again.

Once she was discharged, Fanny once again set out on the island challenge. But as she took on her first battle, she realized that things were not the same. Nugget was still a shadow of his former self; the synthetic metals grafted onto his shell were not nearly as strong or durable as Fanny had hoped. Sobek was healthy as can be, but he had lost all his zeal for battling; his attacks came out weak and half hearted. Fanny could tell that he was weighed down by guilt, and knew that there was nothing she could do about it. As for Hurricane, she was a Pokemon that Fanny hadn’t trained herself and could not be used in good faith.

This was the end of the road for Fanny as a Pokemon trainer. She was already two years behind, and with her Pokemon unable to battle properly, she had no source of income. So, with a heavy heart, Fanny laid down her Z-ring and went home.

For the next three years, Fanny took on small jobs throughout her home island of Akala. Income was meager, but she was able to manage since she was once again living with her aunt. Her Pokemon seemed content with their new peaceful lifestyle. Metang was happy to regain his strength through labor, and Sobek in particular seemed a lot less tense.

With adulthood on the horizon, Fanny finally decided to leave her home region for the industrial region of Galar‒the place from which her family originated. There, she managed to land a job as a Corviknight Taxi pilot, presumably because of her experience “training” the powerful flying type Hurricane. She was happy with this job; it paid quite decently, and gave her opportunities to learn more about the region’s people.

Sometimes, as she flew over the region on one of the Corviknights, Fanny would spot trainers battling each other with Rotom Drones acting as referees. She knew these battles to be World Coronation matches, and while she was already aware of the series, seeing battles like these on a daily basis made something stir within her. She was reminded of her old childhood dreams. Fanny reminisced that it had been five long years since her last battle. But maybe it was finally time to reopen the book on becoming a professional Pokemon trainer.

Interesting backstory, I like it! Remember Pokemon can have up to eight moves. Accepted!

Name:
Sam Flune
Age: 19
Gender: Male (They/Them)
Current Rank: 80,975
Personality: Sam is normally quite upbeat and loves to lift others spirits as a bit of a cheerleader. However, Sam lacks confidence themself, usually putting on some facade of confidence while internally panicking over every little decision. Sam does enjoy company and likes being around other people. Despite lacking confidence Sam really does believe in their dream, wanting to pursue it to the fullest extent.
Backstory: Sam was born in Twinleaf Town, attending school for a number of years before graduating last year. After graduating Sam decided to follow a passion of becoming a Pokemon Trainer, specifically their dream is to battle Cynthia some day, a notable figure often discussed in the history classes, even one day appearing as a guest speaker for the school to speak of Sinnoh Myths and Legends. On the day Cynthia did arrive Sam was only 6, at such a young age they grew to idolize Cynthia’s knowledge of Sinnoh’s lore, but also her skills as a trainer. Sam made a deal with their parents, as long as they graduated from school when they were done they could take time to become a trainer, specifically the deal was that Sam had one year, starting from May 16 (same year, dunno if we have a year) to become a skilled trainer, specifically Sam had to enter the World Coronation Series and rank up from Normal to Premier, if they failed, they’d have to go to a post secondary school for a real job. Sam agreed and upon signing up was granted the rank #79,065. Sam was confident at first and after receiving a Starter and a Pokedex from Professor Rowan Sam set out to become a better trainer. Unfortunately Sam learned quickly how far they’d have to climb. Sam lost 3 battles in a row about a month, eventually dropping to #80,975. The dream started to seem hopeless as Sam mostly wandered around Jubilife City for the past few days in despair.

Looks good! We do indeed have a year, it's currently June 8th so same would've spent about 2-3 weeks as a trainer already. Accepted!

Decided to work on my idea for that Contest styled World Coronation Series, and here's what I got as of now.

The World Coronation Series has a side division for a lot of classes, such as the Breeder's Coronation Series (Which I can work on if asked) and our focus of the Coordinator / Performer Coronation Series. CCS or PCS for short.

Due to being smaller than the main series, the CCS only ranks the top 50,000 Coordinators and Performers globally rather than the top 100,000. As customary for any Coronation Series, there are ranks for each level in where you are in the rankings.

Normal: 50,000 - 40,000
Super: 39,999 - 20,000
Hyper: 19,999 - 10,000
Platinum: 9,999 - 8
Master: 8 - 1

Battles play out like a normal Contest Battle or Showcase performance depending on whether it's a performance out in the open or if it is an official match in a building or stadium. The battle itself is triggered by the two participants linking devices and granting them a miniature scoreboard and basic stats for how his, her or their Pokémon would be doing.
While these battles can usually only be won by a depleted scoreboard, if a Pokémon is to faint during a performance then their Trainer would lose.

Top ranking Trainers in the CCS / PCS are considered to be fully in sync with their partners, being able to sense feelings and in general be extremely close to one another. And even with this Coronation Series running right along two other major leagues, it still thrives in its aspect of truly entertaining people and Pokémon alike.

The only change I would make it the numbers, I think each higher tier should have less people in it rather than them all having 10,000ish save for masters (for that I'd suggest copying the numbers for the WCS or something similar). Other than that, looks great!

With Pokemon Legends Arceus comes many new mechanics and Pokemon, such as Frostbite, Snow, Drowsy, Alpha Pokemon, etc.

First and foremost, we'll be following whatever Moderator guidelines are placed regarding Legends Arcues, but since I haven't seen those come up yet and the games are out and thus free to RP, there are a lot of topics that we'll need to discuss. For now, let's talk about Alpha Pokemon since they were brought up in a discussion on discord.

Here's how it's suggested Alpha Pokemon be implemented:

Alpha Members of the species are naturally the "biggest, toughest, strongest" members of a given pack.
In quotations, because this will not be decisive. Yes, they are indeed bigger due to the size factor and that comes with the basic assumptions that bigger = physically stronger but less nimble/agile

What do you all think?

Hmmm I think alpha would just be cosmetic primarily. Or at least should. And I'm not a big fan of bringing any arceus status conditions into this
While drowsy...is kinda suspect, I think frostbite is very good, very balancing. it's a counter-part to burn which really levels the playing field on special vs physical attackers. I'm totally okay with frostbite; all the other status conditions and weather are...eh—I wouldn't carry them over.

And yes, Alpha as a cosmetic seems quite fine by me.

I think the reason for getting rid of sleep and freezing was to accommodate for the new style of battle in legends arceus. First off, the combat system is supposed to be much more fluid going in and out of battles, and straight up missing turns due to those status conditions would greatly slow them down. This is also evidenced by the fact that they made it so stat boosting/hindering moves affect both types of offense or defense in order to speed things up, the loss of priority moves to increase the rate at which you gain turns, and the addition of agile and strong style moves to mess around with your turns. Just simply put, those changes to status conditions were created specifically for the legends arceus game.

That being said, I do really like the addition of frostbite for the reasons you said and also because freeze and sleep were essentially the same thing before. (Not to mention my signature pokemon’s main move has frostbite in the description and wouldn’t make much sense if it was freeze)

My personal preference would be:
- get rid of drowsy and keep sleep.
- keep freeze and add frostbite for new moves created with frostbite in the description (bitter malice and Bleakwind storm) or straight up replace freezing with frostbite

I don't own a switch nor Legends: Arceus, but all the systems mentioned seem to translate fairly well to RP. Sleep and Freeze are notoriously difficult/downright annoying to RP around in an interesting manner, so I think using Frostbite and Drowsy instead makes complete sense. I'm cool with the Alpha thing being cosmetic, too.

Alrighto, after a lot of thought and a lot of poking around, here are the eight trainers I'll put forward as suggestions for this years' Masters 8, which the older trainers are free to challenge if they think they're up to par: (one representative from each region)
  • Sinnoh — Champion Cynthia
  • Hoenn — Salon Maiden/Tower Tycoon Anabel
  • Alola — (Pending Mod Request)
  • Galar — Champion Leon
  • Unova — Boss Benga
  • Johto — Orange Islands Supreme Gym Leader Drake
  • Kalos — Lumiose Conference Winner Alain
  • Kanto — Grand Champion/Top Coordinator Daisy Oak

Just learned who tf Benga is but I like the list. Haven't thought about Drake from the Orange League in a MINUTE
same, outside of Cynthia and Leon I had to actually puzzle over the rest.
Benga is Alder’s grandson. Also where is Steven?
Steven didn't participate this year, he's busy running Devon Corp and being a Champion. Anabel is more than enough.

Where is Acacia on that list? If he’s gonna be fighting Leon in a bit, shouldn’t he already be like Top 8?
Acacia isn't in the Masters 8, he's ranked 9. He needs to beat someone in the Masters 8 to take their spot.

Yeah he’s 9. But it could be argued he should be higher. Like Daisy doesn’t even seem like much of a trainer.
Daisy's probably who he's gonna have to beat to get in lel
