Zed
His Wings of Death finished Masaru off, the man’s last words not fazing Zed. The loud revving of a vehicle soon got his attention, the Adept turning to see Leon kick a motorcycle in his direction, forcing Zed to fly slightly lower to avoid it, raising his Eclipse Solaire as it passed overhead to cleanly cut it in half. The officer wasn’t done, sprinting towards Zed as he fired several bullets at the Adept, who raised an arm in response, sending a flurry of birds to intercept them. As before, it took two bullets to completely take out one of the birds, and Zed’s constant supply would greatly hinder Leon’s progress.

Then, Eitri’s voice called out to him from above, even telling Leon and Omega to cease their fire. She wanted to… see his most powerful attack? In a more restricted space such as this, with the barrier closing in around them… it could be devastating. And if it increased his odds of victory, he would oblige.

“With pleasure!”

Ring of fire encircles a world in twilight
Flame becomes my sword and wings
Crimson expands endlessly into hope

“Legitima Futura!”

Once again, Zed’s ultimate attack began with a storm of birds raining down from above, sweeping along the ground, threatening anyone in the vicinity. Some of them headed back up into the air and towards Eitri, where they would be joined by a row of Rexcaliburs, another row of them dropping to the ground below, releasing a wave of golden flowers upon impact.

Finally, a ring of blinding, golden flame burst from Zed’s position, expanding outwards and threatening to deal devastating damage to those in the area. This time, the part of the final attack headed for Eitri seemed to be brighter and hotter than before, while the part of the ring closest to the ground appeared weaker in comparison. Zed was prioritizing the girl as his target, just as she wanted.

Jack
The big angry turtle had taken some damage, but it wasn’t out yet. And the attacks only seemed to make him angrier. Powerful electricity burst from the Koopa King, arcing from one fighter to the next, Jack letting out a painful scream as the volts coursed through his body.

“Focus, Ghostrunner. This is no match for you!”

Coming from the Architect, it was surprising to hear what seemed to be genuine cheering for him. His body tensed up due to the electricity, he found himself unable to let go, but his blade had not fully reached its mark. Just a little more. Morton went into a stomping tantrum, blasts of fire and energy heading this way and that, Jack mostly safe from them, but with the fiery man’s attack approaching... He had a chance here. A risk to take. A choice.

Like hell he wasn’t going to take it.

“The bigger they are…”

Letting out a shout of both pain and determination, the Ghostrunner’s acceleration module fired on all cylinders, gaining a burst of speed with the sole goal of driving his weapon through Bowser.

Eitri

The wind dragon around Eitri abruptly vanished as Zed unleashed his attack. It was an illusion, bait to trick the user of the Golden Trillion to launch his attack against Eitri. It worked... but the attack was not exactly what Eitri had hoped. She could make this work. While it appeared the sage had been charging up an attack to force Zed into a beam struggle, that had only partially been the case. The true reason she had been honing her focus? Evading whatever attack Zed was about to throw her way.

The moment the flaming birds appeared, Eitri was already in motion. She moved, flying around and between the burning birds. Next, row of flaming swords. The same technique that had taken her arm when they last fought. But now, she was ready. She saw it. The small gap in the wall of blades, right where Zed was. Pushing herself on with her wind magic, she just barely made the gap. The blades shredded what was left of her cape as she narrowly made it in time.

Then the final wave. A ring of pure energy, flying towards her. No dodging, no evading, no way around it.

Had to go through it.

Eitri's Divine Recreation shield encircled her, with Eitri putting up a second magical barrier. The Sage flew to meet the attack, pushing through the flaming store. Her first magical barrier shattered almost instantly. Even her Divine Recreation wasn't enough to protect her, the flames pushing through and washing over Eitri.

But only for a moment, as Eitri pushed through the attack. The girl was covered in burns, her clothes smoldering and burning as she came to a stop directly in front of Zed. She gave the pink haired man a weak smile.
"Thank you, Zed. You've been most helpful." Eitri said to the man. Zed's attacks, having missed Eitri, continued onward... Towards the point of barrier where all the sides came together!

Eitri turned towards that point of the barrier as the wind dragon formed around her. Now, with all the attacks she had given and recieved, Dragon Fang was charged up once again. Along with Zed's attack, Eitri unleashed the Dragon Fang towards the point where all the sides of the barrier came together!
"Now, Belowski!" Eitri called out to the teen.

~

"Attack the point where the barriers come together now, Omega." The floating eye commanded the robot.

E-123 Omega
Zed weaved his way through the barrage of bullets with grace, taking no damage despite several close calls. The Golden Trillion sent several fire birds towards Omega, but the droid was not concerned. He continued to fire his minigun, shooting down the fire birds with a mix of accuracy and spray-tactics. The machine was about to continue firing ant Zed until a mechanical red eye flew down next to him. E-123 was about to blast it into scrap until a familiar voice came from it—Eitri. She seemed to have a plan, requesting that the robot use his strongest attack on the barrier after she attacked it herself.

Almost immediately afterwards, Eitri (and Belowski) appeared in the air, the girl commanding Leon and Omega to cease fire. The witch made it this far, so she undoubtedly had a strong tactical mind, and the machine assumed this was part of her plan. This prompted E-123 to, VERY hesitantly, cease fire, although he kept his minigun spinning, ready to fire at a moment’s notice.

At Eitri’s request, Zed used what seemed to be his strongest attack, apparently it even warranted a name call-out like on those stupid TV shows that the two-tailed fox was so obsessed with. First came a wave of birds, which Omega dealt with in the same manner as the previous ones. Then, several swords appeared in the air and dropped towards the ground. Calculating the most successful course of action, the war machine reconfigured both hands into drill-shaped missile launchers and fired several at the swords, blasting them outwards, some of them even hitting the barrier from how far they flew. (I didn’t acknowledge the flowers due to the fact that they are reliant on the swords hitting the ground.) Finally, Zed released a blast of fire from his body, the weaker end heading towards the robot. E-123 tore out a large chunk of the building next to him, holding the piece out in front of him to shield himself from the blast.

“Attack the point where the barriers come together now, Omega.”

Finally.

His laser had recharged fully from the previous usage, and now was the perfect time to use it! Omega reconfigured his hands into the laser cannons and…!

BWWWWAAAAP

The giant purple laser fired once again, heading directly to the point where the barriers converged!

Sonic the Hedgehog
Bowser was being overwhelmed, they could win this!

That’s what Sonic thought before he noticed that Bowser was holding a ball of electric magic.

“Oh no—watch out!” The hedgehog yelled before leaping backwards, but it was too late. A massive shockwave released from the king of the koopas, the blast hitting Sonic while he was still in the air. “AGH!” The blue blur soared through the air, crashing into a building nearby.

The hedgehog tried to get up immediately, but faltered and fell back down with a wince. That sucked. There was no time to rest, though, the barrier was still closing in and Bowser wasn’t taken down yet! Finally getting up after a brief moment, Sonic curled into a ball and spin-dashed out of the building.

With a determined expression, Sonic ran towards Bowser and extended his fist, going for a quick hit to the koopa’s jaw. He’d then go back around for the same maneuver again, before spin dashing towards the king’s torso.

Belowski

...!

Suddenly, he was dragged into a dogfight. Flying just a short distance behind Eitri, he didn't have a say in the basics maneuvers. As she was nimbly flying between and around the flaming birds, the young duelist was sticking out a bit, one of the birds clipping his chest, making him cough in shock.

"Uh....maybe making that dude mad wasn't a good idea-" He tried to say, putting out the flame on his stomach with his jacket.

But there was no stopping her now. Or Zed for that matter. A wall of blades was next, which honestly? Looked kind of pretty, despite how hot they seemed. Belowski sighed as he took in the sights, still fully in danger, kicking back midair. However, his monsters attempted to keep up. But the more and more Zed through at them the tougher time they had sticking around - especially without a pair up help in evading.

"Mokey!"

The first Mokey was also the first to go, disintegrating into the field of flaming blades. Happy lover was next, taking a flaming bird that would have otherwise nailed Belowski directly. This left him two Mokeys, which puffed themselves up in pure rage, making their attack rise up to 3000 once more.

"Now, Belowski!" Eitri called out to the teen.

"Huh? What? Oh...right." Belowski snapped out of his trance. "Mokeys, ya know what to do."

"Mokey!!!!"

"Mokey!!!!"

Firing intense vibrations up toward the intersecting barrier, he was aided by Omega's laser, Eitri's Dragon fang, and of course Zed's ultimate attack. These attacks shot past the growing bundles of lightning before-

CRAAAAAAAAASH!!!!!

The shielded roof shattered apart like glass, fragments of red barrier raining down on the city below. Lightning pouring out, almost like blood of a creature gushing from an open wound. Crimson shocks cluttered the skies as they howled in high pitched ferocity. A storm of red. And within a moment, they began to lash out against those that had disturbed this balance. Hailstorms of lighting zapped in and around Zed, Omega, Eitri, and Belowski. It seems it wasn't going to be holding back this time.

One particular lighting strike shot out, striking right in front of Belowski and behind Eitri, the strike reverberating between them as a pulse of red static relaxed from it.

"Ack!"

Red static volts ran through Belowski as the connection between him and Eitri were severed, his duel disk forcefully deactivating from the effect of the lightning. He began to spiral towards the ground as a colossal bolt of red lightning struck the square in and around the urban arena where Zed fought. Nobody would be safe. Nobody in the battle would be spared from the attack. Branches of lightning from the singular bolt shooting off like sparks, striking any targets that lingered in the air.

Eitri

Her strategy had worked. With a maniacal grin, she watched as the top of the barrier shattered completely. Of course, the barrier was not happy about it. Lightning blasted all around her, breaking her connection with Belowski. The teen began to plummet to the ground. Not good. A bolt of lightning flew towards Eitri as she flew down towards Belowski, but Eitri was ready. She once again drew her prototype of the divine weapon Breidablik, firing it at the bolt of lightning. In a burst of light, a cloaked figure appeared, falling alongside Eitri. It was only in the world for but a moment, when it was blasted with the full force of a red lightning bolt. The creature let out a pained scream as it was literally blasted in half. Currents of electricity jumped from the falling corpse, striking Eitri and knocking her back in the air.

Eitri felt as though her nerves were on fire as she was shocked. The pain was intense, and incredibly disorienting. It was all she could do to stop herself from plummeting. There was no way she could catch Belowski... But she could try to break his fall. Conjuring a blast of wind, Eitri attempted to use it to cushion Belowski's fall.

BOWSER

"YOU WANNA BE A HERO, SO BAD!?" Bowser roared, and despite the pain of the blade wedging further through the crack, inching along to something wholly vital, he grinned, glancing over his shoulder at Jack. Sonic attempted to intervene, but Bowser's stomps kept him at bay, the hedgehog unable to break through shockwave after shockwave (Zed's attack suffering the same consequence), and the moment Bowser stopped?

"THE YOU CAN DIE LIKE ONE!"

The barrier was closing in from all angles, surging toward the conflict. As Eitri's ruse busted part of it, the rest remained intact and operational, its march unending. Bowser wasn't a total fool, he knew he was on borrowed time now. That dumb sword had made sure of that. Without it, perhaps he could have taken a few more out (even if Zed totally stole his kill).

The koopa leapt toward the barrier, laughing as he turned his body around so that his back was aimed toward the barrier, where Jack was as well. The plan was obvious and simple: to eliminate them both, but if Jack chickened out and leapt away to avoid death, the king would increase his weight to smash back to the ground---and remain in the fight. If Jack stuck to his guns, he could manage to sink the blade directly into Bowser's heart.

With no time to avoid hitting the barrier.

Bowser personally thought it was genius as he laughed the whole way along, sailing through the air.

LEON

"God... fucking... damnit..." Leon muttered, seeing Eitri return herself to the fight. He couldn't blame her completely, of course, the barrier was rapidly closing in. She was demanding Zed attack her with everything she had.

Is she crazy!? Leon thought as he took his lask magazine and loaded Matilda, having emptied the rest of the previous one on Zed, who was quick to oblige. The flaming birds were predictable, to say the least. Seeing no other alternative, Leon was quick to jump over the hood of the nearest car, and dart into a partially collapsed building to avoid the wrath---though he felt his being targeted was an after-thought.

The birds were simply stopped by the rubble. It was the blades that crashed through, forcing Leon back further as he flipped his combat knife. He swung two rapid strucks, knocking aside two of the flaming blades, but a third was stabbing directly for him---

The knife's cutting edge stabbed into the tip of the sword, then cut through it, Leon stepping to the side and dragging the blade through the sword's length. It fell in two, before dispersing completely. However, that wasn't quite the end of the show. A final band of energy propelled outward, once more forcing Leon into deeper cover, but it was enough, as it shattered through and eliminated what remained of the building, but dispelled before it could reach him.

It was here that Leon realized the truth of Eitri's motive. She'd used Zed to try and break the barrier - and somehow succeeded. "She really is crazy," Leon muttered to himself, watching as the top of the barrier's shattered form started trying to reconstruct itself, sending out crimson bolts of lightning through the air, all while he raced back out into the open...

And then watching Belowski fall.

He felt his heart surge into his throat, more lightning crackling all over (Omega at serious risk, his body seemingly attracting the lightning's wrath the most, even on the ground). Sprinting forward, the agent leapt into the air, sailing upwards way beyond what should be humanly possible, extending his arms as a bolt of lightning arced by toward Omega, some of its static shock reaching out.

Leon's eyes widened as he felt the energy course through his body, felt his vision darkening, his heart palpitating, but he clung on, catching Belowski out of the air and holding the boy to his chest before he crashed into the earth on his back, knocking the wind out of him, but at least the kid was safe. Fighting against the strange fit the tiny bolt had sent his body into, Leon gasped for air as he let go of Belowski, letting the boy slide safely to the grass as the DSO agent clutched at his chest, feeling like he was having a heart attack as his other hand searched his pockets, feeling for that last vial he'd made.

Belowski

The kid plummeted below, his duel disk having a major crack through the center as it was rendered nonfunctional. His wind had been knocked out of him due to the lightning that struck nearby him before. Even though it wasn't a direct hit, he could feel just how strong it was. However, before he could hit the ground to his demise, a gust of wind came up from under him, sending him a few feet in the air in an attempt to break his fall. And then to top it off, Leon swept in, snatching Belowski into his arms before dropping him into the grass nearby.

Belowski rolled on the grass, his chest rising and dropping as he attempted to get his wind back in him. Some remnants of red lightning crackling between his teeth. Seemed like any exposure to the stuff was detrimental to anyone's health.

Finally getting a grasp on himself, he deep breath before sitting up, catching his bearings. Well, he seemed to be alive. But what about Eitri and whoever just saved him? Looking around, Belowski turned to Leon, who was fallen nearby. Making his way over to Leon, he found his panicked expression and body language, as if he was suffering a heart attack.

"Ey, that no good." Belowski said, putting a hand on his chest, trying to calm him down. "What's happening?"

Kirby

Krak-oooom!

The force of the barrier's retaliation quaked the earth, tripping Kirby mid-run. Apparently, his allies have been busy, especially with the barrier. Suppose there was no need to warn them anymore.
Yet Kirby picked himself up and kept running as quickly as he could. They were still fighting, after all. His first sight was Belowski and Leon, both of which looked rather beat up.
Kirby chirped a quick "Poyo!" as he closed the distance, essentially repeating Belowski's question in Kirbeese.

Eitri

THUD

The blackened, smoldering corpse of the summoned one crashed to the ground a few feet away from Belowski, Leon, and Kirby. The creature's lance struck the ground shortly after, the sound of steel clattering ringing out over the storm before the weapon rolled away. Eitri hit the ground shortly after. While the lightning blast had hurt and disoriented her, she was still able to maintain enough control over her magic to slow her fall. She laid on the ground for a moment, breathing heavily as the world seemed to spin. The girl twitched as jolts of red electricity occasionally sparked out of her.

No, this was no time to be lying here. She had made their opening, it was time to escape. Eitri pushed herself to her hands and knees, looking over to the trio. Leon had somehow managed to catch Belowski... but it was clear he was badly hurt. Possibly even mortally wounded. The pink puffball was still somehow alive too. Eitri watched as Leon frantically searched his pockets. Looking for the last piece of miracle medicine he carried. Eitri had seen what pocket Leon had put the vial in. But would it really be worth it, to save him? He had claimed it was his last vial of medicine, one that could be useful to her should he pass away. Even if he survived, Leon had no means of flight. Eitri would only be able to carry one, and Belowski was the far more reliable fighter. Then again, Leon was a far more proactive fighter. And he had stated he would be willing to lay down his life for her, due to her child form.

But then there was this competition itself. Whatever creature that had created it, whatever creature was behind the scenes controlling this wanted their deaths. And in this moment, with Niðavellir and it's royal bloodline far, far away, the thing Eitri wanted the most was to rob whatever creature that was behind this of it's satisfacation.
"...Belowski..." Eitri croaked. She weakly pointed to Leon's belt. "Second... pouch..."

THUD

Suddenly, there were two bodies. Eitri had fallen and joined them, alongside that of her bisected summon. Right as he flipped his head to meet her, she was also taking in his situation.

"...Belowski....second...pouch..."

She pointed at Leon's belt, telling him where to find it. Now that she mentioned it...didn't Leon drink something to make him feel better one time? He kinda forgot. But he was gonna try and find it anyway. After all, if Leon was gonna save him, he was gonna save Leon. What comes around goes around.

Feeling inside Leon's second pouch, he grasped a singular vial that was in it. Huh. This was his last one. But what about Eitri's condition? How was she gonna walk out of this? Hmmm...well, technically, she saved him too. So saving her as well would also restore balance in their universe. Hmmm. Idea.

"Okay...I think it's time for a Belowski hookup."

That's when he shook up the vial, putting a waterfall of half of it in Leon's mouth. Then he shuffled over to Eitri, halfway tripping in the process. Staggering over to Eitri, he also raising the concoction over her mouth.

"Say aaaaaa..." Belowski told her, letting the nectar drip down to her lips.

Zed
Eitri expertly weaved in between his attacks, making it past Zed's Legitima Futura alive---but her plan was not something he'd anticipated. Looking up, a series of powerful attacks struck the very top of the barrier, the combined force enough to shatter it. But it retaliated in kind.

In an instant, a storm of crimson lightning befell them, knocking the others out of the sky. One such lightning bolt headed for Zed, who was able to do little in response, his Vibratio activating once more. While the auto-evasion move could not nullify the damage, it did dampen it somewhat, the Golden Trillion's wing vanishing as he fell to the ground, a mix of blood-red sparks and golden feathers coming out of his body.

He landed on the ground with a thud, his whole body tensed up. After a few moments, he managed to look around him, noticing that those near him had been similarly affected by the lightning. Looking up, he could see the void beyond the barrier---a possible exit. But with his wing gone, he had no means of getting up there on his own. Two Lux Assaults had proven enough to get it back, but he was also able to focus his Septima into replenishing it. Back home, it took under a second to achieve, but here... Well, it would certainly take considerably longer.

Pushing himself up onto his knees as he caught his breath, Zed began to focus. He had a chance to escape, and he sure as hell wasn't going to let it pass him by.

LEON

He was losing focus, the edge bleeding out of him, feeling his heart grip itself painfully in his chest... before a familiar taste reached his lips, sliding down his throat, and he could feel its effects practically wash away, like a baptismal cleanse. With a cough, the agent sat up, seeing Belowski giving the last of the vial to Eitri.

It wasn't good, losing that. It eliminated one of his few trump cards he really had. However, the barrier above didn't seem to be phasing back over, as though in a perpetual state of brokenness. No more lightning came after them---making it a very close call indeed. Then, his eyes found Zed, who was in the process of pushing himself to his knees.

Gritting his teeth, Leon rose to his feet, feeling the herbs working their power through him. Emboldened with this, and Zed's obvious weakness, the DSO Agent marched toward him. "You did your part. You're finished," the agent stated. "What you're fighting for will still be there when you're gone, dead or alive." He paused only briefly to let his words sink in. "Top's broken off this place. We can all get out without killing anyone else."

Not something he knew with certainty, but it seemed better than the alternative of staying around until all but one person was dead. Almost unexpectedly, Leon then reached out a hand, though notably cautious as he did so. "No need to keep fighting. Eitri used your power to bust open our prison. It'll be easiest if we get out together."

It wasn't quite the easiest thing to do, holding a hand out to the enemy like this. Zed had killed Pyro and Masaru, and whoever else before they'd crossed paths, but they didn't need the distraction of battle. They needed to get out of that hole ASAP, before it had a chance to close, or before whoever made it could fix the problem they'd exposed. Leon's beef with Zed could wait.

Eitri

"Say ahhh..." Belowski said, dripping the elixir into Eitri's mouth. The girl grimaced, but opened her mouth. She was growing weary of being treated as a child. This blue potion, contrary to the green one she had before, tasted sweet, almost fruity. When she drank it, Eitri felt a warmth in her stomach. It quickly spread out to the rest of her limbs. She had a sudden boost of energy, quickly jumping back to her feet! With surprise, Eitri looked at her hands. It was as if her power was overflowing.
"Incredible..." Eitri muttered.

This place made no sense. Herbs just as powerful than the most potent healing magics. She would have to find what world Leon came from and give it a visit.

Zed had collapsed nearby, somehow evading the intense storm that roared overhead. Leon had gone off to confront him, and as expected, was offering him his hand. Eitri smiled. How predictable. She looked to Belowski, giving the teen a nod.
"It seems I am thanking you once again, Belowski." Eitri said. Noticing the crack in his duel disk, Eitri frowned. "Your device. Are you able to use your magic without it?"

Belowski

Looks like they were back and kicking. Karma didn't fail him now! He smiled as the two were brought back from the reaches of death, though they didn't wait around and marvel at this. No, they instantly jumped to action mode.

"Ey, don't mention it. I'm just a helpful dude, helpin' along." Belowski brushed off her compliment. "As for this ol' thing...yeah, I think it's no good. Like, I can still chat with my spirit bros, but I don't think that'll do you much good here."

The storm above still appeared violently unhappy. It swirled around in a maelstrom of red, acting as a Cerberus to the gates of the underworld. It seemed ready to destroy whatever came close with overwhelming force. In the meantime, the barrier continued to retract, shortening the time to think as it closed in on their position.

Eitri

Eitri took Belowski's arm, inspecting the broken duel disk closer. No, this wouldn't do at all. Out of the storm, the metal eye approached and hovered next to Belowski and Eitri. The damage to the duel disk was... incredibly extensive. Even thought the area of the damage was relatively small, the insides of the device were nearly completely destroyed. It was a good thing she had allowed Belowski to save Leon, this boy was now next to useless. The girl glanced up to Belowski.
"Unfortunate." Eitri said.

The girl walked away from Belowski, towards Zed and Leon. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched Kirby. Just as before, something deep inside Eitri told her that this pink puffball was incredibly, incredibly dangerous. It did have a good relation with Leon and Belowski, so perhaps keeping around Belowski might still be beneficial.

Reaching Leon, Eitri crossed her arms and looked down at Zed with a smirk. Hopefully, he would decide not to lash out and try to kill them. But there was the problem with escaping. The lightning storm. Not to mention the fact that Leon, Belowski, and Kirby had no way to fly. Well, perhaps Kirby did. And who knew where Jack, Bowser, and the blue creature were. They must still be alive, the number hadn't gone down yet. Omega had rockets, perhaps he could be of assistance with the other trio. But how would they get through the lightning storm? Eitri would not be able to dodge and block every blast of lightning...

"Hmm... Any ideas?" Eitri asked Leon, looking up to the sky.

E-123 Omega
The attack was a success—the ceiling of the dome shattering like glass. However, just as it did, Omega’s sensors went crazy, detecting something incredibly dangerous. “MASSIVE ENERGY SURGE IMMINENT.” The robot stated to nobody in particular. The laws of science were not on his side in this situation, his metal body attracting the lightning the most even in his grounded state. He needed to find cover immediately!

ACTIVATING GULLENBURSTI

Omega blasted off at speeds that could possibly make the blue hedgehog jealous, a shockwave releasing from his previous location. He immediately crashed through a building, the massive bolt of red lightning striking it soon after. With an ominous rumble, the building began to cave in and collapse from the sheer power of the lightning strike! From inside, a jet thruster could be heard as the building fell completely, cresting a massive dust cloud and a mountain of debris.

After a few tense seconds, two red eyes emerged from the dust cloud and Omega flew out—unharmed. He flew out of the dust cloud and towards a group of his teammates. Omega slid to a stop once he reached the group, scraping his feet against the asphalt, and looked down at Leon and Zed. While his face was unreadable due to the fact that he was a robot with no mouth, one could still tell that he was upset. He rapidly looked back and forth between the two, but they seemed to be recovering. Leon got yo quicker than Eitri did and…approached Zed? The DSO agent was trying to reason with the enemy, Eitri following suit.

Omega immediately reconfigured his hands into two machine guns and approached Zed as well, pointing them at him but not opening fire yet. “LEON, I URGE YOU TO RECONSIDER THIS COURSE OF ACTION. THIS MAN HAS KILLED TWO OF OUR ALLIES, HE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.”

Sonic and Jack (Co-Written by Blue)
Within moments of Jack's determined attempt to finish the Koopa King off, Bowser had unexpectedly switched strategies. While he couldn't stop the cyborg's blade from going deeper, his plan was now to take Jack down with him, forcing the Ghostrunner to stick to his plan to ensure the turtle's death. If he let go, Bowser would have the chance to stay in the fight. It was either two deaths or zero.

"If I get to save at least one life," Jack growled, gripping his blade firmly as he made his decision, not caring about whatever the Architect had to say about it. "Then it's worth it."
With a malicious grin, Bowser threw himself into the direction of the barrier, aiming to take Jack with him! But suddenly—

Sonic dashed into Jack‘s side, knocking him off of Bowser right as they were both about to hit the barrier! Carrying his momentum, he turned around midair and spun around so that he was speeding towards Bowser. Using his speed and momentum as power, he boosted full force into the Koopa King’s torso! Sonic had thought about it, this maneuver was far too fast and unpredictable for Bowser to anticipate, it had to work!

Zed
Zed was quickly surrounded by his foes. Well, it seemed everyone except the large robot no longer had interest in killing him. Thanks to that hole in the barrier, escaping without claiming any more lives was now a possibility. Leon had a solid argument, adding that working together would make things easier, but could he really trust those who he'd just been fighting? Those whose allies he'd just slain?

...That question was probably going through their heads as well. With some slight hesitation, Zed grabbed the agent's hand, and he was helped to his feet.

"...you're right," the Adept concurred. "It'll take time for my wing to reform, but time is something we don't quite have." Zed added, his back softly glowing, golden feathers sprouting one by one. He looked up, noting the ongoing thunderstorm near the barrier. They didn't really have the means to get through it as far as he knew, and without flight, he could not simply zoom past it. He doubted he'd have the necessary speed, anyway.

"I can't offer much at the moment. I can create barriers with my Golden Trillion, but they may not last against that lightning."

Eitri

Omega arrived with a speed that Eitri recognized from the Gullinbursti she implanted in the robot. He voiced his opinion to destroy Zed, but the officer accepted Leon's had. So, Zed decided to throw in with them after all. The odds were low, but with all of them working together perhaps they did have a shot.

Eitri took a moment to consider the situation. If she decided to betray the group now, her odds also seemed rather well. She could likely take down Zed in his weakened state, and activate her plan with Omega. Belowski was out of the picture. That left Leon, who, while his weapons and means were simple, still might be enough to overwelm her in such close combat. Then there was that terrifying pink puffball, who's abilities were still completely unknown to her. On top of that, the other three contestants were still out fighting. Jack, Bowser, and the blue creature.

No, until her chances to win increased, she would stay the course of rebelling against this invisible captor.
"I can use my magic to create barriers as well, but I know mine will not last long against the lightning either. Even my Divine Recreation shield would not stop this, and I fear what energy it would absorb from the lighting would be... detrimental to my health." Eitri said. "We will not be able to rely on Belowski's magic as well. The device required for him to use it is destroyed beyond repair. I can take one person with me in flight. Omega, are you able to clear the barrier with your rockets, with one or more people in tow?"

Eitri glanced to Kirby.
"If you have some ability to help us, now would be the time to speak up." Eitri said to Kirby.

BOWSER

The king of the koopas knew the threat the hedgehog posed. Knew how heroes operated. Knew what to expect, and exactly that came to pass, a blue blur zipping through the air. Acting quickly, attempting to maneuver in tandem with the speedster, Bowser's claws snapped out. Sonic was successful in knocking Jack away, but Bowser's claws tore into his back, locking in place.

"HA HA HA!" The koopa was uproarious as he was slugged in his chest by Sonic, plates of shell flinging off from the impact. The red barrier was met, and Bowser continued to laugh, waggling his fingers at Sonic as he pulled Jack in with him, both deteriorating. "See ya soon, rodent..." Bowser promised darkly, before both he and Jack were eliminated.

Despite the destruction above, the number still counted, skipping 8 and moving right toward -

LEON

Omega was displeased, making sure to voice his opinion. "It's not about trust," Leon replied. "It's about survival."

Zed took his hand. He could see their logic. Their differences could be dealt with some other time. Zed's offer to Eitri's question was barriers, possibly enough to delay the lightning. "No, that's perfect, we can use that," Leon replied to the Golden Trillion, devising a plan. How could he get everyone through that hole before it closed, and prevent lightning-induced casualties?

Eitri posed her own ideas, of which Leon agreed with. Omega had his thrusters, he could carry at least two people up. Eitri could similarly carry someone with her, but options remained limited.

"We need to work quickly," Leon stated, glancing about them for a certain something, his eyes landing on just the perfect thing. A car, its top half removed from the recent fighting. "If Omega can carry that, those of us without flight can hitch a ride there. Omega would be slowed, but if Eitri and Zed provided combined cover, we could block the lightning strikes coming in. Eitri," he turned to the girl. "You've got that windy stuff. Worse comes to worse..."

He was in luck, noticing a nearby truck, a blue tarp covering its back, almost untouched beside a destroyed Waffle House, save for the front half being crushed. "You use that wind, push it into that tarp. Anyone holding on will be carried, like a hot air balloon. Could even use that while we're in the car, give Omega more mobility, and being aboard would mean you could focus more on defense than flight."

At that moment, the sky thundered. Two more deaths. He grit his teeth. At least that lessened their load, some. He couldn't help but notice Jack wasn't with them, making his stomach churn uncomfortably. "We don't have a lot of time---does the plan work with the rest of you?"

Belowski

Belowski cocked his head at Leon, who explained his plan. It seemed that everyone was trying to band together at the last minute for survival. As the cannon shots rang, Belowski thought hard about the proposal.

"Hm...one problem, broski. A car is made of metal, and I dunno about you, but a car is really conductive. Would be like bringing big lightning rod up there. We'd be smoked like fresh bacon."

Not to mention a lot could go wrong in that case. After all, Zed did prove to be highly aggressive. It's possible he's send them to their own graves while they were exposed and out of their element to claim an easy win. Especially now that the rest of them were crippled and he had now way to retaliate with Mokey Mokeys.

Kirby
"Uwoh?" was Kirby's blank response to Eitri's question. In his current state, there wasn't much he could do other than eat some of the electricity, but given how it seemed to strike from many directions, he wasn't sure how helpful that would be. Instead, he turned to face Leon, who seemed to have something in mind.
As Leon explained his plan, Kirby nodded along. But he failed to mention him, prompting a balk from Kirby. He wanted to do something too!
But what?
...Oh! Surely if Eitri and Zed can be useful, he could replicate it. He'd try the new ally first.
Kirby waddled his way towards Zed, aiming to catch his attention. He gently pulled on the Adept's wing and pointed at his own mouth, all with a pleading look. Surely the new friend would be agreeable?

Zed
Leon proposed a plan. Risky, but just plausible enough. The chance of death was high, but it wasn’t like they had many other options to get through.

“It might be our best bet. If we go through the storm quickly, we’ll be able to minimize the amount of lightning striking us.” Zed remarked, before he felt a slight tug at his still forming wing. It was that pink puffball, pointing at its mouth as if asking for food. Worrying about food at a time like this… how odd.

A few golden feathers fell from Zed’s back, drifting into Kirby’s mouth. They weren’t exactly edible, but it would be foolish of him to think his diet was similar in any way to the pink creature. For all he knew, nuclear fusion- powered flames could be this thing’s breakfast.

Kirby
The pink puff's eyes seemed to glitter as bright as Zed's feathers. He knew he was a good guy!
With a hearty gulp, the feathers were gone, and Kirby changed. Predictably, feathers gave Kirby the Wing ability, yet these carried Zed's essence, resulting in a something different. Instead of two wings, Kirby carried one similar to Zed, and even sported the same hairstyle! This was...
Golden Wing!
Kirby flapped the wing proudly, showing it off for the others. Now he could help out like Zed, he was sure of it!

Eitri

The sage considered Leon's plan. She had to say, in all her time, in every life she had lived... This was a new level of poor plan. The odds of this working were incredibly low. But as she watched, the pink creature ate one of Zed's feather and shapeshifted it's appearance to become slightly similar to Zed. Eitri's eyes widened. The creature even had Zed's golden wing.
"Incredible..." Eitri said. She pondered what would occur should the pink creature consume someone entirely. But quickly brushed it off. Now more than ever was not the time for such frivolous thoughts. Eitri approached Omega, walking behind the robot.

"Open up." Eitri commanded. The robot complied, bending forward slightly and opening up as it had done before. Eitri once again jumped onto the robot's back, using her magic to work on it. After a few moments of manipulation with her magic, Eitri closed up Omega.
"I have recharged the Gullinbursti I placed within him. That should give us another slight advantage." Eitri announced to the group.

The sage approached Zed.
"I will use my Pair Up ability with you. It will power up the both of us slightly, making our abilities more powerful." Eitri said to Zed. She looked over to Belowski.
"Well? Are you with us, Belowski?" Eitri asked the teen. "Even if you do stay down here and somehow win, there is no guarantee you will be released, let alone spared."

Belowski

Something was off. Very off. Belowski looked up at the sky, the boundary continuing to close in. These vibes. He felt as if the lightning wasn't just going to let this happen. The lightning strikes in the past were when only a couple of people resisted. If everyone resisted. He knew. He knew it wouldn't let them leave alive.

Belowski frowned. His vibe sensitivity was more acute than the others here. He knew this attempt to flee would result in mass casualties. They probably wouldn't survive. His gut told him this. Should he tell them?

No.

He wouldn't.

He was never one to dampen the mood. Everyone was finally cooperating, coming together as friends. Why would he break up such a bonding moment? Would be pretty uncool. Even if this would certainly kill them all, he couldn't think of a better way to go than uniting everyone together.

What was death?

That's a question he always asked pondered when he was imprisoned underground. But usually he and his monster crew danced around the topic. Didn't connect with their vibes. But now? With the reality setting in? Hm...reincarnation was always a rad concept. If he had to choose, he would be reincarnated as a cloud. To float across the air with nothing but breeze and sun rays all day. No responsibilities. That sounded nice.

"Well? Are you with us, Belowski?"

Finally resting his thoughts with a smile, Belowski looked back at the group, his eyes not betraying any thought he had. Only showing that of a lazy boy that had stumbled into this mess.

"I'm in with y'all to the end, my dudes."

E-123 Omega
Zed accepted Leon’s hand and got up, agreeing to help the group escape and set aside their differences. With reluctance, Omega reconfigured his machine guns back into hands, not taking his eyes off of the adept for a good several seconds before turning to Eitri, who had asked him a question.

“AFFIRMATIVE, MY ROCKETS SHOULD BE CAPABLE OF CLEARING THE BARRIER.” The robot said with confidence, whether it was warranted or not. Further devising the plan, Leon gestured to a partly broken car and stating that others could ride in it if the robot could carry it. After bending over to let Eitri recharge the Gullenbursti, E-123 voiced his opinion on the plan.

“I WILL BE ABLE TO CARRY THE AUTOMOBILE WITHOUT ISSUE. HOWEVER, YOU ALL SHOULD NOTE THAT WHILE MY WEAPONS ARE NOT LIMITED TO MY ARMS, MY STRONGEST FIREARMS REQUIRE ME TO RECONFIGURE AN ARM. IF I CARRY THE VEHICLE, ONE OF MY ARMS WILL BE OCCUPIED AND MY DESTRUCTIVE CAPABILITIES WILL DECREASE.”

As he spoke, he turned to look at Kirby inhale some of Zed’s feathers. What an odd source of sustenance, Omega thought. However, it seemed that the puffball gained some power from it, growing a wing quite similar to Zed’s. “IMPRESSIVE.” The machine noted. “YOUR VERSATILITY IS FAR ABOVE THE AVERAGE FOR SQUISHY ORGANICS.”

Sonic the Hedgehog
Despite the hedgehog’s speed, Bowser still managed to grab Jack, taking them both into the barrier with a dark promise of seeing the blue blur again. Clenching his fist, Sonic exhaled sharply, visibly tired of this twisted game. Turning around, he saw a large group in the plaza, including Leon, the guy he helped earlier. Deciding that he’d rather not be disintegrated by the barrier, the hedgehog ran over to the group, skidding to a stop and assessing everybody there.

They seemed to be discussing some sort of plan to escape. Cocking his head to the side in confusion, Sonic looked up to the hole in the sky. They wanted to go through that? Most people would hate this idea, but the blue hedgehog seemed to dig it, a smirk appearing on his face.

“Ey, Leon, right? Anything I can do to help?” Sonic asked the one person he knew besides Omega.

LEON

Despite his confident words, and outward confidence in the plan he'd made, Leon silently agreed with the unspoken reservations of the others: he was lacking confidence in this idea. There were far too many outliers, far too many variables, and far too little time. Regardless, the plan was agreed upon, for the most part. It was set, ready to go, and-

“Ey, Leon, right? Anything I can do to help?”

He turned his head to see the old sega character grinning back at him. Leon inwardly grimaced. This confirmed Jack's death. He couldn't linger on that, however. Had to push on. The blue hedgehog was fast, and Leon had seen the tail-end of his fight with Zed before he'd run off to do battle with Morton.

And then Leon got another idea that might make his previous one a little easier to pull off. "Yeah, actually. That whirlwind thing you were doing before? That could help us get a boost in the air, launch us further and higher, especially if Eitri helped strengthen it. We're burning daylight, people, let's do this before I get cold feet!"

Eitri

Belowski asserted he would be with them until the end. In a blur of speed, another creature appeared. The blue hedgehog-like creature she had seen running around. Eitri prepared an attack, but relaxed as she realized he came in peace. So he was the one that had emerged victorious from the battle with Bowser and Jack. Leon already had a part for the creature in the plan. These heroic battle-types were most helpful. Everyone was gearing up.

Omega brought up the fact he would not be at his full capabilities for destruction with his arms occupied.
"Well, that is unfortunate. But unless you are capable of destroying lightning with your weapons, you shouldn't be doing much destruction during this part of the plan." Eitri said to Omega.

Eitri gestured to Zed, using her Pair Up ability on him. Zed would feel a small gust of wind as he began to float slightly off the ground. He would also feel a small increase in his powers, as did Eitri.
"Where I am from, we have a tale about a turtle and a scorpion crossing a river together." Eitri said to Zed. "If you truly must sting, I would suggest you not be stupid and wait until we cross the river."

With that, Eitri floated over to the truck. Her Pair Up ability pulled Zed along with her, and she waited by the vehicle for everyone to be ready. As she waited, she began to focus and charge up the energy for her Dragon Fang attack, should she need it. The metal eye flew back to the group, once again coming to a rest inside her hat that Belowski was still wearing.

Zed
Just as Eitri said, her Pair Up ability powered the two of them up slightly, Zed feeling a small surge of energy flowing through him. It had the added benefit of keeping him airborne and near Eitri at all times, making his lack of a wing a non-issue. Interestingly, Kirby somehow replicated his powers, gaining a wing and hair just like his own. It was kind of cute, he had to admit.

Upon Eitri's comment about a scorpion and a turtle, Zed couldn't help but chuckle. "Wouldn't dream of it," he replied. "My Golden Trillion may be limitless, but my body has taken too much damage for another grand fight. Even attempting to sting would just get me killed, wouldn't it?"

He didn't think he'd ever end up in this situation, but it was for the best. His odds of survival, even with the storm raging overhead, were higher if he teamed up with everyone. One determined push for an escape. A chance to secure their future.

He was filled with hope, but it was hard to shake off that nagging feeling in the back of his mind...

It soon became clear there wasn't much time left. The barrier had closed in toward them, the last remaining buildings disintegrating underneath the red beams of light that glazed over them. It was coming imminently to a close, only their small oasis was left out of the entire map, and visibly shrinking by the second. It was now or never.

"Uh...let's go ahead and do that thing now." Belowski uttered. "I don't like the idea of being laser jelly."

LEON

It was decided. Eitri had used her Pair Up ability with Zed, who, with Leon and Belowski, would be taking the car, carried by Omega.Kirby had a new wing, he could fly. Leon had a strong feeling that the now-aerial Kirby would be a little quicker and harder to hit than Omega and the car, anyway. Sonic would generate his whirlwind around them, give them a strong burst of carried wind to fling them up, gain a lot of ground on lift-off, and allow them to accelerate at a much greater rate to clear the lightning, and the outer edge of the barrier.

It was a fool's errand. A stupid plan. But they didn't have many options. Leon just hoped he hadn't sentenced everyone around him to death.

Omega grabbed the car as Leon climbed atop it. He'd need to be as attentive as possible, be the eyes in the back of Eitri and Zed's head, hopefully keep them from getting snuck up on by any tricks this barrier had in store. Eitri, Belowski, and Zed followed momentarily afterward as Sonic gave a thumbs up, before zipping around them, kicking up a tornado, with them at the center.

"Alright, on the count of three, Omega... One...

Two...

Three!"

Fwooosh!

Thrusters flared and in seconds they were off! Kirby and Eitri flying separately from the car as they took to the rapidly shrinking skies. The red storm that swirled ahead of them shrieked, not unlike an animal that was heavily angered.

Belowski, who rested in the car, just watched on. Practically unfazed by all this. Instead, he had crossed his arms behind his head and laid back on the ripped up car seat under him.

The crackling of lightning above wasn't going to let them leave. Not if it had anything to say about it. First, three strikes of elect rift shot out to Kirby, each at different angles, attempting to track the puffball, while an arc of lightning zig zagged around Eitri, before shooting up to her from her flank.

There also seemed something broiling in the future. The storm rapidly revolving around itself, generating a grand buildup of crimson energy deep within itself.

Eitri

The Sage launched herself into the sky alongside the now flying vehicle, watching as they drew ever closer to the storm. It seemed as though they had only just lifted off the ground when bolts of lighting rained down towards them. She tracked an arc that seemed to fly past them. But Eitri was at the ready. The way this storm moved, acted... It was as if it was alive.

Or controlled.

And if she were controlling the lighting, then she would have it... Eitri orientated herself to face the lighting as it attempted to flank her. With Zed at her side, Eitri conjured a green magical barrier. Zed chimed in, with a scarlet orb surrounding them as well. The lighting punched through each barrier, but each one reducing the energy of the blast. It struck Eitri's Divine Reincarnation shield, blasting the pair into the side of the rising vehicle. But the blast had reduced enough in power to be non-lethal. Eitri managed to hold onto the side of the vehicle as it continued to fly, pushing though the pain to keep her focus on maintaining her Pair Up ability to drag Zed with the group.

Letting out a breath, Eitri pushed off the side of the truck to continue flying. Her Divine Recreation shield remained up, with red lightning crackling from one golden hexagon to another. She had to keep pushing onward.

That's when the red storm above bellowed, a raising of decibels and a low reverberation echoing throughout the sky. Something was brewing. Crackling lightning compressed and compressed within the cloud, tighter and tighter.

Step Step

Belowski stood on the roof the hood of the car, looking up at the cloud above him. He gave a single look over to Eitri, taking off of his hat as all of his hairs began to stand on end. Throwing the hat up, it caught wind and slapped back down on Eitri's own head, if a little haphazardly.

"Hey. Try looking up at the sky sometimes when you get back home, yeah?"

BOOOOOOOM!

The energy of the cloud released, a massive bolt of lightning shot down, thicker than a skyscraper. It threatened to exterminate most everyone down below it. But most specifically? It was honed in directly on Omega and the metal he was carrying. In an instant, Belowski's eyes lit up with Red before-

6

The car itself would completely disintegrate. Not only that, but everyone touching it and around it. Leon right in harms way and Omega...well...Omega was made of metal. He wouldn't be far behind.

Sonic the Hedgehog
After giving the group an air boost, the hedgehog leapt into the air and landed in the back of the car with a surprising amount of confidence, although his expression was more serious than usual. Hearing the ominous rumble in the sky, Sonic looked up to see the red storm begin to retaliate against his teammates, although they dealt with it successfully.

“So far, so good—“

Sonic’s ear twitched. His quills tingled. Something was…very wrong.

With a gasp, Sonic leapt off of the car, yelling out a panicked and nearly unintelligible “Watch out!”. The storm retaliated once more, with much more force than before, aiming at the vehicle!

BOOOOOOOM!

The blue blur spun around in the air, being blown back slightly by the force of the attack. He found himself airborne, and he lacked the power of consistent flight, not unlike most hedgehogs. Looking to his pink puffball friend who was nearby, the hedgehog yelled out. “Hey pal, little help?!”

E-123 Omega
The machine’s sensors were going berserk as the storm brewed, cresting a massive lightning bolt that headed straight towards the vehicle. Calculating his odds of survival in a fraction of the second, Omega quickly decided what the best course of action was.

As the lighting bolt headed towards the car, Omega exerted force upwards, tossing Leon and Eitri off of it, and threw it aside shortly afterwards. While this had spared him from instantly being electrocuted, his body’s conductive properties would undoubtedly cause the lightning to pursue him without time to escape.

It was too late for Omega…but not for his teammates. Them escaping opened the opportunity of them creating more violence in the future, an outcome the machine was pleased with.

E-123 grabbed Leon and Eitri out of the air and activated the Gullenbursti, gaining as much height as possible in the time he had, zooming upwards even closer to the exit. “I AM OBLIGATED TO RESCUE YOU, MEATBAGS.” Omega looked at his teammates as he flew upwards.

“DYING NOW WOULD BE UNACCEPTABLE AND EMBARRASSING, FLESHY TEAMMATES. ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT.” The machine then turned to Eitri specifically. “MY DEBT TO YOU IS PAID. COMMIT AS MUCH VIOLENCE AS POSSIBLE IN THE FUTURE FOR ME, EITRI.“ With a massive mechanical thrust, Omega threw the two upwards, giving them a final bit of height!

Then…the inevitable happened. Lightning struck the war machine, electrifying his entire body with a loud, crackling ZAP!

The red lights in Omega’s eyes went out and his thrusters disengaged, eletricity arcing across E-123’s chassis. After a brief moment of silence, the machine’s body sped towards the ground.

CRASH

The robot landed in the ground in a massive crater, his body quiet and lifeless.

Kirby
"Ha-Hai!" Kirby chirped, oddly jolly despite the tense situation, before allowing his light body to be taken by Sonic's whirlwind. Soon, he split off from it, apparently able to fly without the use of his wings-er-wing. Instead, he fired a few golden feathers from it, which changed to golden birds soaring beside the puffball.
Birds that were struck down by the barrier, which clearly was not keen on letting them escape. But Kirby wasn't as exhausted as the others, smoothly evading the lightning bolts, flying as naturally as if he were Zed himself. But the barrier was a stubborn one, and a bolt got too close for comfort, almost striking Kirby directly before he shielded himself with power similar to Zed's Golden Trillion. The shield was not completely safe however, as some bolts pierced the defense and zapped Kirby, leaving dark, smoking marks on the puffball. Not only that, but the force of the blast was pushing Kirby back, leaving him open for the other bolts to strike him from above and behind.
"Hey pal, little help?" Sonic could be heard calling him. Kirby spared a glance to see him knocked away from the car, before Omega's untimely death.
A sight that should certainly traumatize the young puffball, but he hardly had the time, as the bolts converged over the puffball.

The three collided against each other, and he was gone.

Only to thankfully reappear nearby Sonic, having teleported at the last second and catching the blue blur. With a smoking sigh of relief, Kirby flew towards the others.
Oh wait.
"Hai!"
Before he could forget, Kirby gave Sonic the greeting he forgot to give back on land.

LEON

No.

No...

It was falling apart. Leon had expected it, but it still rocked him to his core nonetheless. Despite their initial success, they weren't prevailing. He clung on, trying to keep his mind sharp. He tried to uphold his confidence. It faltered when they launched. It shattered when the lightning struck.

BOOOOOOOM!

Leon was airborne. He had seen it.

Belowski...

...

Damnit...

...

What little confidence came crashing down as he was caught in the air, and Omega delivered a parting speech. The agent grit his teeth. He understood what Omega was doing. Despite the robot's nature, so clear and on the surface, he was giving himself up... for them.

He said nothing. He simply balled his fist, then tapped it against Omega's own---and he was airborne once again. Not even a second after the catapult-like effect, Leon watched Omega get struck. His eyes dimmed as he fell back to the ground.

The number had ticked down twice.

Omega's speed and force had been tremendous. If Leon hadn't been trained to deal with whiplash, he'd have certainly broken his neck. Fortunately, all he got was a crick. He'd entered this realm with nothing but his wits and his weapons. Then he'd met Kirby... Masaru... Omega... Belowski... Eitri... Jack...

Leon crossed the barrier. He passed out onto its other side, but he was slowing down. He would begin to fall again. Omega had succeeded in getting him out... but if there was nothing to keep going with, Leon would simply fall back to the earth and be consumed anyway. Omega's sacrifice would be null. Everything would be...

The DSO agent's eyes widened as he felt the air charge with the familiar energy. Another strike was coming, and he could see it fire from the barrier, headed directly for him. Worse: its trajectory was aimed at Eitri and Zed as well. Leon wasn't like the car or Omega. The bolt wouldn't stop at him. It would eradicate him, then continue moving.

He had nothing to stop it.

Except maybe...

“ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT.”

Another-

BOOOOOOOM!

Leon felt himself being flung back as his knife disintegrated, his hand shattered. Somehow, some way, he had spared himself. Just this once. He had tried to block the bolt with his knife. It had been destroyed, but it had stopped the bolt as it erupted. Leon had been launched once again, heading further outside of the barrier, but he was struggling to focus, his ears were ringing. Even if he didn't save himself from death that time, at least perhaps he'd spared that bolt from striking Eitri. That was all that truly mattered.

He struggled against it. Against the encroaching darkness. But it was strong, and he was losing. Even with his serum still coursing through his veins... If this was it...

Hell, he'd made it a good run.

Hopefully, Omega wouldn't be disappointed.

Leon's eyelids relinquished, and his eyes closed, unconsciousness consuming him as he continued to fly further from the barrier, gravity slowing him once more, at the mercy of anyone and anything.

The lightning wasn't going to let up after a single strike. Instead, after the last attack struck, several static shocks began to zap about at random. Reckless and unguided branches of red electricity shot through the air, zapping anything that would cross their path.

One of the branches would snake across and strike Leon, who was currently in a difficult spot to respond to. A large bundle would shoot across toward Sonic and Kirby, sending dozens of smaller bolts fragmenting around and at them.

As for the remaining two, Zed and Eitri were shot upwards, four bands of lightning followed them, beginning to revolve around their position. In a second, they'd all close in and strike at once on the pair, Disintegrating them instantly.
