The young trainer once more sat in a daze of confusion and thought. His mind swirled with endless images, sounds, and feelings from the previous hours. Wes’ eyes, during these moments of his life, didn’t seem to work at all; just a darkness before him, only permeated by the images in his mind. As Mike, walked in the unlocked door of his room, Wes’ merely nodded to the young trainer. He saw the shadow of the trainer, yet nothing else except for darkness. He could hear his greeting and the worry in his voice, yet nothing seemed to shake him out. Not entirely out if his trance yet, he felt the door shut and lock behind Mike as he exited the room.
Throughout the day, Wes sat in the trance upon the plush mattress of the BTU cot. His body did not move except to blink once or twice within an hour and to fidget with his glasses. The happenings of that morning soon left his mind and were replaced with his life rolled up into images. First, the image of his father shone brightly in his mind. Wes would have cried after seeing such an image if it wasn't for the daze, for he intentionally blocked it from himself. Several years back, his father contracted a deadly form of the common Swinub Flu and lied on his deathbed for nearly five months before passing. He would never forget the day, some three months into his sickness, when his father had handed him an egg. His father had been a local police officer before his sickness and owned an Arcanine. This was his father's Arcanine and another Arcanine on the force's egg. It had hatched a few days after his father passed and the Growlithe had been with him ever since.
The long forgotten image passed deeply into the thresholds of his mind to be replaced with his mother, who had never wanted him to go on a journey. So, he stayed around the house and battled who he could in the small town of the Hoenn region and never thought twice about leaving. The next image came into view, that of his old neighbor's yard sale. Wes' Growlithe and him were searching through the sale when they came upon a pile of ancient rocks. Deciding to grab one as a trinket, the pair didn't realize that they had stumbled upon their next partner. Some two months after the buy, Wes still carried the fossil in his bag; not realizing yet that he had a fossil. During a battle, the trinket fell out and the trainer on the opposing side screamed in excitement and told him about it. She was a local girl who seemed to know too much about Pokemon for her young age of eight. Wes, feeling the excitement from the girl, cut the battle short and ran to his mother; begging her for a ride up the road to the nearest big city to revive the fossil.
He smiled through his daze and continued to dive deeper into his story. Wes remembered how frightened Shieldon was after being reborn into the modern world. I always wondered how Old Frank the neighbor got a hold of a fossil like that. he thought to himself before continuing. The next image showed the Dragon's Den of the Johto region. His mother and him had gone on a trip up to Blackthorn City to visit relatives. During that trip, Wes had decided to walk over to the gym and take a look around with his partners, Growlithe and Shieldon. They hadn't noticed the foreboding clouds ahead until it had started pouring rain and sounding thunder. Upon running back to the house, the trio had spotted a lifeless looking Dratini in a bush. After warming up and caring for the delicate Dragon, it wouldn't leave Wes' side.
The final image appeared into Wes' mind of the pamphlet from BTU the post office had received in their small town. The few teens applicable battled for the anonymous invitation and Wes had come out on top. After the final image vanished from his mind, he awoke from his daze feeling unnaturally hungry.
