Okay, i got three quick questions.

1. What is the plan after the chunin exam?
We've decided that we'll alternate between major arcs (involving all the nations) and minor arcs (involving smaller, personalized arcs).

The next Major Arc will be the Land of Snow's Civil War; which comes from the first Naruto movie. The long and short of it is, the exiled princess of the Land of Snow will beseech Leaf assistance in reclaiming power and the other nations will also intervene based on their loyalties and interests.

The next minor arc, since you're in the Leaf, you may end up tagging along with Raiku Uchiha, Shiho Hyuga, and Taiyo Akugami on their trip to Takumi Village in the land of rivers. There you'll encounter the warriors of Hasa, Roulan, Kogane and Super Ultra Mega Kami Tensai Megami. Conflict may ensure.

2. Is summoning allowed? ( i wanted to add summong to my oc but didn't know if it was allowed)
Summoning is indeed allowed.
3. Can you send me another discord link because my computer would not open the first two links I got.
https://discord.gg/48eStdJZ (Join the Naruto AU Discord Server!)

One last question

If we can learn different techniques from people then who can teach us?
(i want to know so you won't get angry at me later.)
Long as you're reasonable about it then we won't mind; if you want someone important to teach you then you've got to have established a reason why they'd teach you. Also, don't go crazy with the number of techniques or super-high-level techniques.

Since we're at the chunin exams the average rank of techniques would be D - B, and A-rank technique would be exceptionally rare and likewise exceptionally difficult. Chidori is A-rank so if you have such a technique you could expect to be able to use it twice in a fight much like Sasuke could only use it twice.

@Cmeriwether an opportunity for a mission has arisen. This mission requires shinobi at the early-chunin level but most shinobi at that level are participating in the exams. This results in the villages only being able to send one shinobi at that level instead of a full team.

The mission will be to act as the escort for the Prince of the Land of Moon whose nation is currently going through a coup.

It will let the three Ocs, Lin, Ayaka, and Kai, go on a mission while the chunin exams continue. You'll have to leave the exams to take the mission, but you'll definitely get an encounter with Hasa at some point. Interested?

Alright mission is a go @Cmeriwether @ThAtGuY101 @Grand Master Koop @Demonic Bunny

Remember that you don't know that the others are on the same mission (the people from the Leaf might know since they're from the same village), you'll learn about the others when you arrive in the Land of Hot Water.

You can have your post include receiving the mission and then setting off for the land of hot water, it should take around 3-5 days to arrive there and you'll meet the Prince in a Hot Spring town, you can't miss him, he just bought an entire circus.

Have fun!

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwagakure Genin
Stadium 5, Konohagakure

In between bouts of puffy white clouds, the sun peaked down over the quiet stadium; the Iwagakure genin looked up and wondered if his month of training had truly been enough to get him over the wall -- or if his grip would slip and leave him falling farther than ever before.

He tried to ignore the crowd; most spectators seemed to be from what convoys had trickled over from the Stone and the Rain occupying the main stadium. Keito couldn't see them, but he could feel his father and brothers' eyes boring holes in the back of his skull. At least everyone stayed mostly in the upper ring, far away from ground level, with televised access to other fights, in case Keito's style bored them to sleep.

"Azumi Noriko of Amegakure v.s Keito Ugokasenai of Iwagakure," The sleepy-eyed Leaf chunin chosen to proctor the fight announced, projecting to the high-up audience, 'This is officially the fifth fight of the first round of your Chunin Exams Final; You two are to fight until one of you surrenders, or can no longer continue fighting. Take your proper places, and prepare for my signal to begin your match."

Keito didn't move far from where the proctor stood, but would be about ten meters away from his opponent; in place, the Iwa genin dug his bare feet into the ground and faced the genin girl meant to be his foe. With his left hand, Keito formed a fist; his right hand held in front of him, fingers together, palm facing his fist. As he brought the two together and held them out in front of his body, Keito bowed low enough to have his face parallel to the ground.

"Thank you for being my opponent today, Miss Azumi," Keito said as he straightened himself out of his bow, "May we both fight our best, and may the better of us be the winner."

The Leaf chunin held his right arm high into the air, the 'ready' part of his signal; all he had to do was swing his arm down like a hammer to a nail, and the genin would know to 'go'.

Contrast to her opponent, Azumi had largely been able to ignore the crowd. As if there was nobody else here but herself, and her opponent. Oh she had been aware of who was in attendance, from her own village to especially those notable names that sat in the chairs of the Kage section, but her focus had only been on the present match before her.

As the announcer called her name, she moved down to the arena itself as she opted to jump from the participant stand as she wanted to waste no time as she kicked up some dirt on her landing but soon moved to face her foe. Her gaze had been stoic if not slightly intense, not directed at this specific individual who she had not known but rather a desire to win. She needed to defeat him, there was no other result that would be deemed acceptable in her eyes. She had to prove the strength of Ame from a crowd who largely expected little of her "minor" nation.

Her focus on this almost caused her to miss the gesture from her opponent, as the Iwa ninja attempted to show a gesture of respect; bowing to her and thanking her for being his opponent, a modest gesture though Azumi would not be lying if she admitted to herself the first thing she noticed was that headband he wore. Still she managed to suppress these emotions easily enough as she acknowledged his gesture with a nod.

"Do know I intend to hold nothing back, so I expect the same from you." Azumi said, as she pulled her umbrella from her back and had it at the ready while the announce noticed that both competitors seemed prepared and with that he lowered his signal.

"Begin."
Pre-Fight courtesies, I've little to say here.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5, Konohagakure

All Keito could do was nod at his foe; he hadn't been planning on holding back during the bout, but if he had any second guesses about that, well, those were put to bed. But just from the look of this girl from the Hidden Rain, the Iwa genin could tell she was quite serious about the whole affair -- maybe far more than he could hope to be. After all, at the end of the day, it was still just a test to pass or fail, right? He was just there to do his best, whatever that happened to be.

"Begin!"

The proctor waved his arm down from the sky as an added signal to start the fight. Without hesitation, Keito took a long jump backwards; being that he and Azumi had been standing in the center of the arena to start, both of them had plenty of room all around them to build a buffer space between each other if they wanted; Keito's jump took him back about another twenty meters. In the air, the Iwa shinobi bit into his thumb to draw blood -- and, as quick as he could, attempted to form the Boar, Dog, Bird, Monkey and Ram hand signs.

"Summoning Jutsu!" Keito yelled out as he landed, dropping his body down low to slam his palm on the ground and complete the jutsu, enveloping the Iwa shinobi in a momentary cloudy puff of white smoke.

For Azumi this was more than just a test, it may have been but one at the end of the day but Azumi had something more to prove than simply her skills being worthy of ascension, but whatever personal motives she had to take this as seriously as she did she kept internally as the match soon began and the Ame-ninja went to work.

Woosh!
As the match began and Keito moved back, Azumi had taken the moment to toss her umbrella high into the air. The momentum of her toss caused the weapon to open up as it spun high in the air, and as it spun it began to rain dozens of projectile senbon; creating a 360 spray while Azumi remained save just underneath as she aimed to strike Keito and whatever he summoned for an opening strike as she displayed a signature Amegakure Bukijutsu for all to see.
Decisive action on the side of both parties.
Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5, Konoha

The smoke cleared quickly, revealing the Iwagakure genin and a pair of Earthworms, each about Keito's size -- just under two meters in length, though stood up on on end to be of height with the summoner, though thinner than the already slender Keito. Of all the jutsu he had added to his arsenal, the Summoning was quickly becoming a mainstay in his burgeoning arsenal; oddly enough, sometimes the shinobi of the Stone felt more at home in the dirt with the worms than with his peers in their homes.

As Azumi's umbrella soared into the sky, opening up to rain deadly metal upon Keito, his summons burrowed their way underground with haste. Meanwhile, the Iwa genin himself slid his slumbering sakabatou from the sheath at his hip with a quick chhhhkk sound; frankly, he'd had enough of senbon during the Forest of Death.

Ting! Ting! Tingtingting-! The distinct sound of metal clashing against metal rang out through the stadium as the Iwa genin kept up with the opening volley; Keito wasn't sure how long the initial onslaught of senbon would last, but he'd have to find out the hard way -- lacking the time and space to make a clean jump anyway, so he was damned in a way, whether he stood still or tried to move

Azumi watched as her senbon fired all around her and those that had flown in Keito's direction seemed to be blocked as she managed to put pressure on him but he managed to hold strong. As the last round of needless fired in this volley the dozens of senbon flew all around her and Azumi had already moved for her next move.

From her person she fired what seemed to be a pair of kunai in each hand, the aim seemed to be on the surface to overwhelm him with projectiles as the senbon stroke from the angled air and these kunai sailed straight ahead. However, attached to these kunai seemed to be a curious item; what seemed to be small sacks, little balloons almost that had been filled with water Azumi prepared just before her match. What purpose these served was likely impossible to tell at the moment, if Keito even noticed given his more pressing concerns.

The second those kunai had been tossed Azumi jumped up in the air, she figured the worms would likely try to attack her in the air and once the umbrella finished its rounds she aimed to grab onto it in the air as she glided down away from her original spot as she kept her ears and eyes out for the worms while she sailed to a fresh spot with her weapon in tow. In this case, right on top of the tree on this field.
Points for positioning.
Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

Surviving the initial onslaught of senbon, the Iwa genin formed a quick set of seals while Azumi launched her pair of kunai; though Keito could tell there was something attached to those kunai, he had no way of knowing what they were -- at the least, he could figure they didn't look like traditional paper or smoke bombs.

Rat, Ram, Boar, Snake; Keito slammed his palms into the earth with haste.

"Earth Release: Pawns of Stone!"

A trio of slabs of hardened earth shot up from the ground; the faces turned toward Azumi were carved to look like the kanji for shogi pawns. Each piece rose just above Keito's head, about two meters wide, and 30 centimeters thick.

Thkthkthkthk! Instead of metal clashing with metal, it was the grindy clang of metal against stone.

He'd gotten his defenses up just in time to withstand the second barrage -- but now he had to worry about Azumi's airborne tendencies, and trying to get her out of her tree to his left; not to mention whatever little trick she'd attached to her two kunai from before, which themselves could be a ticking time bomb; now Keito had to hope for the moment that the defense he'd prepared stood up to the challenge.
Minor knit-pick, three pawns would be a 6-meter defensive area Keito would be sufficiently protected with just one pawn, so I can't help but feel like two of those pawns aren't really protecting anything i.e. waste of chakra.

I get the impression they're lined up in a row, so I can't really say they're defending from multiple directions
Once Azumi landed at the top of her tree, she seemed to go to work in a hurry as she produced what seemed to be a sleeve of fresh senbon and had opened up a compartment on her umbrella as she seemed to be reloading while she had kept an eye on Keito.

Seemed he formed a wall to protect against her kunai, but his defense had worked to Azumi's advantage as the two balloons at the end of her kunai hung off the wall and quickly Azumi made hand signs which seemed to begin to make the water inside crackle and expand.

"Water Style: Bubble Burst Jutsu!"

The water balloons expanded, and before long burst as a pair of small explosions rocked the side of the wall. Not enough to shatter it, but the aim had been more to destabilize the base and the force of the boom itself be enough to "tip" the slab over in order to try and have it fall back into him.

During this, Azumi finished up loading her umbrella with fresh senbon as from the current safety of her tree and once more launched her umbrella above her as senbon fired in that angled 360 spray as she aimed to capitalize on her distance and tried to overwhelm Keito on two fronts.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

Aware and prepared for some sort of turbulence, Keito set his feet and steadied his palms against the middle-most of his ninjutsu creations - being that the trio of stones were connected at the moment and he used the center as the initial controller for his pieces - while the Azumi's water style expanded and exploded from the rigged kunai hanging from his shogi pawns; earthy shrapnel crumbled and flew off the stone walls in chunks as the force of the blasted started to tip them back against the Iwa genin.

Focusing chakra in his palms, beads of sweat started to drip from his forehead from the struggle as he knelt to the ground against the weight of the center pawn. Then, he could feel senbon begin to thkthkthk! against his stone walls once more. At the moment he had no choice but to disconnect the two side pieces, allowing them and their weight to fall flat to the earth while Keito controlled the lessened weight of the center piece.

Thankfully, the single slab of earth itself was just the right height to fit Keito, and more than wide enough to cover him; though the force of Azumi's explosives had pushed the weight of the stone against him, Keito could still use it as cover from her projectiles while he steadied himself and prepared an initial counter-attack.

Now steadied on one knee with the stone against his left forearm, Keito waited out the projectile fire from the girl's umbrella; he just had to remember exactly where her perch was, and the trajectory of how the umbrella fired...But he had to act, quick. With chakra infused in his balled-up right fist, he reared back and punched at a weak point in the top right corner of the stone.

Crrachkk! A significant portion of the center pawn exploded outward in a mass spray of stone shrapnel, propelled by Keito's chakra-infused punch. Using the broken section of stone as a means to peak out at the action to obersve carefully, Keito realized - though he'd wanted to take out Azumi's umbrella - his aim had actually been lower -- more in the direction of Azumi herself.
Kinda illustrating my last point, like why even make the other two slabs u.u

I'm not quite sure what the purpose of making the wall 'lighter' was; the previous heaviness would've made it harder to tip over...so he's kinda weakening his own defenses here. Though at the same time potentially reducing the chakra expenditure to just a necessary third was a good move and resolves my earlier complaint.
Azumi's expression had not shifted, as it seemed Keito was able to adjust his defenses even as she tried to collapse a pillar against him. This was enough to discern that Keito seemed to be a defensive specialist, which meant she needed to get him to commit on the offensive in order to get him out of his comfort zone. However, she had to focus on the current pressing matter as it seemed he found a way to not only fend off the senbon again but even strike back from his position.

Woosh!
Clang!

Clang!!

Clang!!!
Since the corner of the slab had been directed at her, Azumi jumped into the air to avoid it but as one hand reached up to grab the still airborn umbrella as it finished its round while the other had pulled a kunai from her pouch as she used it to deflect the follow up Shiruken with graceful yet purpose-filled movements. Once she had gotten a hand on the umbrella, she twisted her body to begin to glide to the side to move out of the path of other projectiles.

Azumi sensed that a random spot on the ground could be risky, given his summons had still remained hidden so she opted to move along the wall itself. In specific she worked to glide to the wall behind Keito as she focused the "link" of chakra needed to her feet and landed with a slide as she stuck to the wall and in that motion tucked her umbrella behind her back and quickly pulled a trio of kunai as she flung them down to Keito.
The aim seemed to be a quick strike at his flank, but among the trio of kunai one of them seemed to have a paper wrapped around it that seemed to have a trigger seal pulled....

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

As Azumi collected her umbrella and retreated to a high position along the stadium wall, Keito collected his other stone slabs he'd let fall beside him, once again forming a wide, almost u-shaped wall of carved rock to defend him.

The moment the kunai left her hands forming her next, projectile attack, Keito's worm summons burst from beneath the ground, right at the point where it met the section of wall Azumi had taken to; the worms shot toward Azumi, whipping their bodies toward her in an unusually quick slither; however, as they did so, the worms' bodies extended toward the Ame genin; they each moved in from a different side, one trying to bind her left arm, the other attempting to bind her right leg.

On the ground, Keito remained in a kneeling position as he punched toward the center of his left-most shogi pawn; instead of his chakra-infused punch sending the stone bursting out in a shrapnel blast, Keito kept the force of his blow to more of a controlled push from the direct center-mass of his jutsu creation. His goal was to intercept Azumi's projectiles before they got too close to him, although he couldn't account for the paper wrapped around one of the kunai, or the havoc it could potentially bring upon him.
Good positioning on Azumi's part to get around his defenses but I can only really frown on Keito here.

At the beginning of this fight, Keito leaped back around 20 meters. Azumi didn't seem to advance, she even seemed to take distance as well as she retreated to a tree which was at some undetermined location relative to Keito. This reads to me like there would be some significant distance between them, so I can only baffle as Azumi floats over half the arena and Keito does, what appears to be absolutely nothing to stop her.

Albeit, I can't say he wasted time since he reset his defenses. Just appears to be a very passive fighter.
"Water Style: Aqua Spike Jutsu!"
Azumi's focus intensified as the worms seemed to come into play, as it seemed her efforts to avoid the ground and burst along the wall, as that bit of the stadium cracked and they came as they tried to wrap around her. However, Azumi seemed to be ready for it.

Azumi had flashed hand signs the moment she felt the tremor, and along he belt had been a set of canteens that had been filled with water that all seemed to open up, six to be specific as each one shot a hardened stream of water that seemed to sharpen as she extended out the liquid spikes which aimed to stab at the worms as they tried to wrap around her body. Azumi aimed to damage and drive the woms off her, and if success she'd jump off the wall and aimed to use her umbrella to glide back to to the arena opposite of where Keito had been.

Meanwhile the kunai that Keito managed to deflect off his "push" had driven them from their target, but the paper slip soon burst out, which produced a blinding light! A flash bomb that aimed to burst and produce a stunning flair.
Flash was a good play.
Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

Not having predicted a flash bomb, Keito had to shield his eyes momentarily from the stunning light, shutting them tight and focusing clearly on the sounds of the battleground around him.

Meanwhile, Azumi would find Keito's worms to be harder to shake than she'd initially thought. Her Aqua Spike Jutsu pierced through the soft, juicy flesh of both earthworms attempting to bind their forms around her. However, as they were being impaled, the pair of larger worms burst into two clews of much smaller earthworms, each still aiming to latch onto the Ame genin. Even then, the earthworms were also attempting to re-attach, reforming their larger selves in the process.

Still on the ground waiting out the bright flash of his foe's flashbang, Keito - trusting his worm summons to do their job - wrapped paper bombs around the handle of several kunai in quiet preparation.

'They had to stick me up against one of the resilient ones,' Keito lamented in his head, 'I'll actually have to try, here, huh?'

What meddlesome creatures...

Azumi had already twisted as she jumped but the worms seemed to come with a not so pleasant surprise as they seemed to split into smaller worms while the larger ones reattached. With one hand on her umbrella as she glided off the wall the worms charged and aimed to wrap around her body which left her vulnerable.

Her water spikes retreated to the canteens on her belt as Azumi quickly drew an item from her pouch. The worms charged and were about to close in, before an item seemed to swing as it unfolded and revealed sharpened blades.

Slash!
A Fuma Shuriken, known as the "demon wind" shuriken was revealed as it aimed to slash at the faces of the smaller worms, as Azumi aimed to do damage but also make momentum to push herself back which would allow her to glide away from the wall to the floor behind her foe. Her sharp eyes remained focused as she descended to the ground and landed; kicking up some dirt as her sandals dragged on the floor.

Behind the dirt, Azumi seemed to reach for something else in her pouch, but the brief cloud seemed to conceal it, but soon that Fuma Shuriken seemed to launch out, as it seemed to sail towards Keito aiming to strike the blind side.
Props on using the dust cloud as cover tho somewhat redundant if he's blinded.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

Many of the worms that Azumi hacked-and-slashed fell away, in halves that always seemed to regenerate as they fell away from her body and through the air. Those worms re-coagulated as they landed on the ground, once again burrowing underground to try and regain some sort of surprise advantage. Not every worm was dissuaded, however, by Azumi's slashing shuriken and flighty hospitality. The few that remained chose to slither up Azumi's umbrella in an attempt to disrupt her key ninja tool.

Keito otherwise remained patient as his eyesight returned to him; he'd been able to tell that his foe had left her position along the wall - likely carried by that umbrella of hers - from her brandishing a fuma shuriken, and the distinctive sound of it slicing through earthworm flesh.

As she prepared to land behind him, the Iwa genin turned to face her, gathering his explosive kunai in his right hand. With his left, hand he manipulated the chakra he'd need for his stone shogi pawns behind him. Then, landing, the Ame kunoichi kicked up a cloud of dust to conceal her movements.

"I hope you'll take me a little more seriously than that!" Keito called out, taking the moment to move from the spot he'd been standing for quite some time to that point.

He began circling around Azumi's right, pushing out with the chakra he'd built up into his left hand as he did so. The Earth Release: Pawns of Stone barreled forward from behind where Keito had been standing, still clumped together in a horseshoe-like formation, almost like they'd been thrown, although thankfully Keito didn't have to exert the same kind of force in that way. They rushed toward Azumi's landing position had been.

Thunk! Azumi's fuma shuriken shot out of the cloud, sticking dead center into the right-most shogi-pawn -- where Keito's weak side would have been, had he not started moving. Though it had enough force to pierce the pawn and slow its onslaught, the other two continued on, kicking up dust of their own as they rushed in.

Still attempting to circle around his foe, Keito followed up his minor offensive by throwing his rigged-kunai - one-by-one, though in rapid succession - at the kunoichi's feet in a horizontal line.
I'm surprised Azumi's Fuma had that much effect on Keito's 30 cm thick pawn u.u

Azumi had used her umbrella long enough to know when there had been something to tip its weight one way or another, in this case she noted how a couple of the smaller worms seemed to crawl up to her weapon; if she guessed, with the goal to try and shatter it or sabotage it in some fashion. However, these worms had a thinner hide than the larger ones, and Azumi aimed to use this to her advantage.

Before the dust cleared, she folded up her umbrella which aimed to press the worms against the hardened, weighted base of it and with a mighty swing slammed the umbrella on the ground; her aim was to literally smash the worms inside it from the impact of the blow which only kicked up more dirt.

The sound of the Fuma Shuriken slicing the air sounded though its target seemed to be lost as the ninja weapon struck the shogi pawn as the clumped formation came to her position. But notably, what seemed to be a wire tied around the base was revealed as Azumi used it to tug herself forward. She sailed from her dirt debris which in effect shifted her from her position where the explosive kunai had been tossed towards. Showing a degree of grace, Azumi worked to land on the shogi piece that her shuriken had been stuck on as her canteen belt seemed to be missing. With a fluid motion she had a scroll in hand and produced another belt that had extra canteens filled with water as she strapped it to her waist before she pushed off the shogi and moved as she seemed to have her eyes trained on Keito.

As she sailed in the air, using the momentum she gathered as she bounced off the shogi towards him, a few hand signs had been made but the immediate concern for her foe had been that umbrella as she raised it and seemed intent to slam it on her foe before he escaped. Her eyes told one story to Keito and the message had been quite clear.

Want her to take this seriously? He needed to give her a reason to.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

Smashing her umbrella into the ground seemed to have the desired effect Azumi she was going for; she could hear softened earthworm flesh squishing as if being flattened by a hydraulic press. The worms, in turn, emitted a viscous fluid from their crushed bodies; though they couldn't control that fluid as it seeped from them, it began to creep around the interior of the umbrella, lurching toward its more mechanical parts.

Keito - in his circling motion - heard the sound of metal wire being pulled taut, and his foe flying through the air. He took the moment of her motion to form the Tiger seal.

He used the Body Flicker technique to move only a short distance; behind the rigged kunai furthest from Azumi's position at the moment (as he'd thrown them from her side in a horizontal line, one being closest to the position of his charging shogi pawns, another being on the opposite side) just on the edge of its blast radius.

Behind his own rigged kunai, Keito could tell the Ame shinobi hadn't lost sight of him, even as she landed - quite gracefully - atop his rushing earth release shogi piece; that would have to be fine with him, he figured.

Azumi charged through the air with her umbrella raised like a lance, forming hand seals. As she did, Keito's worm summon that had gone underground burst out from its hiding spot in another attempt to wrap itself around her like a living chain; behind her, the two remaining shogi pawns still charged in like stone bulls, and in front of her, Keito set off his bombs with a thundering:

BO-B-B-BOOOM!

Seemed Keito was full of surprises, as he used a Body Flicker technique to shift positions once more as now it seemed he was going for a multi-pronged attack. Before her but out of melee ranged was a set of explosive kunai that Keito had warped behind. The Shogi seemed to come from her rear, and if that had not been pressing enough one of those large worms burst from the ground and aimed to wrap itself around her.

However, even in mid air Azumi's expression never shifted. The focus showed no crack of worry, and while her arm was reared for a swing attempt, her other hand reached as her fingers finished the last of her hand signs just as the ground below her had began to crack.

"Water Style: Jetstream Jetsu!"
At once all of the canteens of Azumi's belt shot out a burst of water, water which shot and blasted against the worm below Azumi as she used this burst as moment and propelled herself into the air; she moved with the grace of a dancer betrayed only by her cold intensity as she sailed over the dangers that all converged towards her original spot, and landed right behind Keito.

Azumi had already had her umbrella extended back and took a swing, as she aimed to deliver a bone crunching blow to Keito's back before he'd adjust to her new position. The swing not only aimed to cause damage to Keito, but also intended to bat him forward right into his own explosive tags ahead of him, and into the shogi which now seemed to sail for the worm where Azumi had originally been.

This battle had shifted to a game of cat and mouse, where the one who'd be caught first would be the one to fall. The one question was, who'd end up being the cat and who'd be the captured mouse...
Good alternative usage of jutsu u.u)9
Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5

The worm summon took the water release jutsu directly against its body, pushed back into the earth as it tried to sail against Azumi flying mid-air; amidst the brunt force of her jutsu, the worm - near like a fish - chose to go with the current, burrowing back into now-muddied ground of the arena; wounded but not yet out of the fight in its own right.

His two remaining shogi pawns made it as far as the first explosion before their own momentum was caught and pushed against them; cracking like pawns, they stumbled and fell backwards against the ground, their pawn kanji carvings aimed toward the sky; though out of the fight, they'd done their job well enough earlier, protecting the genin from quite a bit of trouble to start the match.

Keito - through his summon - knew his foe remained unencumbered as she moved through the air over his explosions as they went off.

'The look in her eye said she was ready to end things here and now,' Keito thought with a grimace, as he shifted his right hand to the hilt of his sakabatou once more, focusing chakra in his ankles and feet.

The Iwa genin drew his blade with its distinctive tchhk, at the same time hard-pivoting on his right foot to meet the foe as she'd landed behind him, swinging her umbrella at his back.

Chnng!

With a narrow parry, Keito's sakabatou stopped Azumi's umbrella before it punched into his rib-cage; he was sure that would have been more than nasty had he been too slow. But his kenjutsu training the past month hadn't been for naught.

With his free left hand, the youngest (and one of the last) Ugokasenai let loose a hooking punch aimed for Azumi's jaw.

Azumi would never admit it, but Keito's ability to adapt even as she answered every trap he attempted with her was worthy of some praise. Her blow was cut off by a sakabatou as sparks flew between her umbrella and his blade, as each tried to push against the other for dominance.

With the Shogi disposed of and, for this brief window at the least, the worm forced back underground, so for the time being it had truly been a one on one showdown. And Keito seemed to be ever determined, as he took a swing for Azumi's jaw with his free hand.

Her eyes widened slightly, as she quickly moved to duck from the blow as his fist sailed over the tip of her hair as she just managed to avoid having a tooth knocked out, but in that same motion she ducked her leg extended out as Azumi was not one to take a wasted motion.

Her aim was to try and sweep Keito off his feet, break the deadlock between their weapons and force him in an unfavorable position. If she proved successful in that, it'd grant Azumi the chance to stand back up, and perhaps take a swing down to his chest to try and get some damage in with that dangerous umbrella of hers.

That was of course, if she managed to knock Keito off his feet. For now Azumi's leg hoped to set this into motion with a hard swing to his ankle.

Thankfully for Keito, he'd maintained the chakra welled up in his feet and ankles from his earlier pivot to parry Azumi's umbrella; the persistent kunoichi's sweeping leg kicked out and slammed into his left ankle, and the Iwagakure genin knew he had to show his foe what the Will of Stone was. He grimaced as his leg absorbed the impact, but he managed to stay firmly stood up in spite of the blow.

With his right leg, Keito aimed to slam his knee straight into the ducking shinobi's head with as much force as he could muster.
Good use of prior set up u.u)9
Azumi's eyes widened as her kick did not knock Keito off his face, but what had been a more pressing worry was knee that threatened to slam into her face as she was forced to pull an arm back to raise a guard as the knee slammed into that. Azumi winced as she moved back a step breaking the deadlock of the weapons.

Azumi worked to try and shake the sting of the blow out of her arm before she grasped her weapon and charged again. She aimed to test Keito's guard, and unleased a volley of thrust strikes as she aimed to try and hit Keito anywhere she'd be able to strike with the tip of her weapon.

With his opponent taking a quick step back before re-engaging, Keito took the moment to calm his breathe and gather himself. He didn't have time for much more than that before Azumi was rushing in at him again, looking to pierce him with the tip of her umbrella much like a fencer might. Though his sakabatou was heavier and bulkier, he just had to avoid taking a direct prick from the Ame genin's weapon -- which was much easier said than done.

Keito - the explosions and everything else behind him well settled down - gave up several steps of ground as he fended off Azumi's attacks. Eventually, a spot opened up on his left side that proved a potential striking point for his foe's umbrella; with little choice, Keito swung his blade's opposite - and sharpened - edge up for Azumi's armpit, hoping she'd either retreat without striking, or trade blow-for-blow.

As Azumi pressed her attack, she seemed to be forcing Keito steps back as her relentless and ever increased tempo of thrusts worked to put the pressure on the Iwa ninja. He seemed to be moved back towards where the explosions and such had settled, though for Azumi this had been by design as she kept her attack up and tried to offer no opening for him to so much as get a breath, but it appeared Keito was full of surprises.

As she spotted an opening, Azumi saw Keito as he tried to strike back; aiming up for her armpit as it seemed he either hoped to catch her while she seemed overly aggressive or fend off a strike to that opening. Regardless Azumi shifted her umbrella to the side as she aimed to deflect and push off Keito's swing; though in that same motion she advanced as she aimed to drive a knee to Keito's now exposed gut. Her got was to deliver a blow to knock the air out of him, and force him to take a step back; right to the uneven ground that the explosions had created to shift his footing as she aimed to knock him off balance.
full marks for capitalizing on the environment

Even as the Iwa genin tried to well up chakra in his belly, the kunoichi's knee striking into his gut felt like the trunk of a redwood being slammed full force into him; in spite of the rumbling around of an unsettled stomach acid hinting that he could maybe vomit at that very moment, Keito held his ground as best he could, even as he'd been pushed against the uneven and shattered earth. His left foot moved over the edge, and would have sent him tumbling down into a shallow ditch had it not been for the chakra focused in his feet.

With his feet steadied against uneven ground, Keito unleashed his own flurry of furious swings toward Azumi, trying to move to his right and retake even ground. Even as he did, the genin Ugokasenai built up another store of chakra -- this time in his gut, so recently removed of all its beloved breath by force.

Azumi landed the strike but the blow seemed to not have the effect it desired. Granted it seemed to do damage, even as Keito managed to buffer the blow with what she presumed was chakra lining his body, but had failed to knock him off his feet. To make matters more complicated, it seemed that Keito had been quick to strike as he unleashed a flurry of blows with his blade as Azumi gripped the handle of her umbrella and prepared to answer in kind.

Sparks flew as Azumi matched the pace Keito swung at, and trade blows with the blade. Each hit created sparks which likely had been a visual treat for the crowd but Azumi had cared little for that fanfar. Her focus had been to perry his strikes and press forward as she tried to get Keito on his back foot once more; her years of practice with Kenjutsu on full display as she almost anticipated each strike from Keito and answered with her own.

Azumi aimed to try and strike his wrist with the tip of her umbrella, an effort made to disarm her foe though how successful Azumi proved to be with this remained to be seen.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5
The pair stayed in line with each other's strikes for some time, exchanging swings and sparks with an increasing - but controlled - pace; to the crowd, it must have looked like a blur of flesh and cloth and steel as their weapons played a vicious tune. During their close-quarters battle, Keito had given Azumi ground but continued to circle around so that his foe was the one facing uneven ground.

However, over time it became apparent that Keito's kenjutsu was but centimeters behind his foe's, as his parries and strikes slowed for just long enough that the tip of Azumi's umbrella poked into the flesh of his wrist on an upward swing. With another squinting grimace, Keito's sword went flying up into the air and behind him, the blade landing in the ground with a satisfying tinggggg!

Not allowing himself to miss a beat, Keito kicked up high with his left leg on his foe's follow through, hoping to catch her neck or her jaw with a heavy blow. He just needed a little more time...

Azumi's strikes that seemed to be so focused yet so relentless finally appeared to bare fruit as she got the needed strike as Keito's blade as it sailed behind the Iwa Genin and landed with a thud on the ground. Azumi's eyes seemed to widen slightly, as if she had been a shark that smelled blood as she aimed to build on this key moment but Keito was one if not defiant as he tried to land a counter blow even disarmed.

As Keito went high, Azumi shifted low. Azumi worked to duck the aerial kick and she focused the next swing of her umbrella on the lone ankle that had kept Keito somewhat grounded. As she avoided the kick she knew that even with his chakra buffs a solid blow to his lone ankle the force of the blow combined with the fact Keito's base was limited with one leg in the air should ensure she'd be able to get Keito on his back.

Azumi's focus was clear, once she had managed to force Keito on his back she'd quickly aim to press the tip near his neck, where a simple shift of the handle would reveal a bladed tip that extended from the top and threatened to press into the next should Azumi have made even one nudge forward.

"Surrender, this will be the one time I ask this. Try anything else and these exams will be the least of your concerns."

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5
He'd made a simple mistake in giving up his footing, but given the lack of time and space Keito's kick had seemed to be what he might need to send his foe back even after she'd disarmed him. Yet, for someone who knew to stay low, he'd gone high. Even as the tip of the umbrella bore into the flesh and pressed against the bone of his ankle, Keito knew his father would give him shit for that kick.

With one leg swinging wildly through the air and another buckling down on its topped ankle, the Iwa genin fell with his back to the ground. Even still, he shifted the chakra from his upended feet and rumbling stomach into the tips of his fingers. Azumi extended her umbrella's newly furbished blade against his neck, looking grim as always. He gave her a curious look before she spoke to him in the quiet tone of a trained killer.

"Surrender, this will be the one time I ask this. Try anything else and these exams will be the least of your concerns." She said to him.

"What else could I even try--?" Keito began to ask, a dour look on his face but a coy sound about his voice.

Even as he spoke, the worm Ubongirigiri burst from what little ground was shared between the two battling genin: Keito's summon extended both ends of itself, rapidly wrapping around Azumi's wrists and up her arms, finally wrestling the umbrella from her grip. With a powerful tug, the worm pulled the Ame genin toward Keito as he rushed up from the ground, extending both hands outward to meet Azumi..

"Maindo Keimusho," Keito whispered, almost saddened by his decision to use his technique, as the tips of his fingers gripped at Azumi's skull, pushing his chakra through to her brain, like he'd stabbed his skeleton key into her skull and twisted hard to pull the door open.

He could hear the ringing echoes of metal pipes and steel as the Hidden Art: Mind Prison laid its trap for the unsuspecting Azumi Noriko.
Hmmm, about here is where the 'assessable' part of the fight ends with Azumi's win and Keito making a last-ditch effort with genjutsu.

It's hard to comment on this fight because it doesn't feel like Keito pressured Azumi at all, the Worms probably did more on that end.

Azumi controlled the pacing of the entire fight, so it was a good display for her but not too much I can say for Keito. The close quarters is where he stood out the most since he...actually attacks unlike the passive defending he'd been doing earlier but he does ultimately get outclassed at every turn and then disarmed so it's hard to say to more than 'A for effort?' and it's largely because on some of his counters even Keito is like 'damn, my dad would kill me over how sloppy that was' so I assume they were intended to be kinda sloopy.

I assume he has pretty good kenujutsu, but since y'all described it as 'a flurry of strikes' most of the time, I can't really judged the details. If nothing else he showed to be decisive and quick on his feet, being fairly adaptable and not getting flustered or frustrated against the aggressive Azumi. So it really does read like Azumi attacks and attacks and maybe Keito does a little something in between until eventually, Azumi breaks his guard.

Overall Azumi made better use of...just about everything so I don't really have much to say here: clean reactions and all, but Keito never really pressed her so...yea. It's a bit difficult to judge some of her maneuvers since they go basically uncontested.

Good use of Umbrella for movements, Good use of jutsu to escape entrapment, and good swordplay. Her offense is solid on one occasion (Fuma w/ String), she was even a step ahead of her opponent and...I can't remember if Keito even managed to hit her...so Flawless Victory and that isn't a criticism of Azumi, I honestly don't think Keito deserved a hit. It seems like he relies too much on his worms who seemed to cause Azumi more trouble than him. I will say that he made excellent use of chakra flow, but he only used one earth release and then his genjutsu so ehhhh? Don't even know what to say about his ninjutsu capabilities.

With Keito it feels like at the end of the fight I couldn't really think of anything he'd done with his jutsu and rightly so because he only used it once in the whole fight :T

Soz m8, really think he was just too passive for his own good

He does trade blows after this and I'm petty sure that's the only blow he lands, guess we can count the genjutsu as two blows.

Azumi had been quite careful at every phase of this battle. Every move she had made had been with purpose, every step made to get to a winning position and she accounted for every variable from her supplies to the ground itself. Azumi had made a point to steer this action up to now in a way that suited her goal. Yet in spite of all these precautions, she seemed to overlook one detail in the heat of the moment.

She had overlooked the one worm she had yet to dispose of, and that had been about to cost her dearly.

Azumi cursed inwardly as her body was suddenly wrapped by the worm as it seemed to focus on her wrists and waist as she was lifted up and the umbrella had been forced from her grip! Azumi cursed, but she seemed to not overly panic, as she struggled in the grip and seemed to be sure she had an out to this. One minor misstep was gonna be a far cry from beating her, but it seemed that Keito had been quicker to act in this instance.

Before long she had felt this odd sensation that had begun on her forehead, and things seemed to darken. Azumi cursed, this had to be some sort of illusion. Though her focus on trying to disrupt this seemed to falter a bit, as a certain noise.

Drip.
Drip.

Drip.

Rain, this seemed to be curious, of all things to try and temper her mind with, it seemed Keito had picked something more familiar than anything if he even had been away of this. Azumi seemed to note something in her view, and focused to try and make our her surroundings.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5
The young shinobi put the full weight of his mental and physical might to hold his opponent in his genjutsu; it would take a lot out of him to hold the whole illusion together, and keep his poor victim locked inside -- but he just had to hold out longer than Azumi, long enough to wear her will and physical energy down enough to claim the match as is...the match had turn from a physical spectacle, to an illusory one.

While holding his foe under the Mind Prison genjutsu, Keito couldn't move to attack Azumi for fear of losing his control over her -- what would be the point of moving in for a final attack if she could break free? He'd seen the look in her eyes; she'd leave him breathless in a ditch on the side of the road if she had half the chance. No, Keito had to keep her suppressed long enough for her body to give way to fatigue.

Azumi's Mind
DripDripDrip the rain would fall as if in slow motion, each immensely tiny drop falling as if right in front of Azumi's eyes. She could see her own reflection in them all, and every reflected looked back in captive despair. The rain was a sanguine red, a thick, viscous thing which threatened to weigh down Azumi's shoulders.

Around her, steam-pipes and steel beams formed an elaborate series of walls and floors and ceiling to hold her in tight; in front of her lie only a single path to start, which branched left toward one, redwood door, and right to another.

Behind the Ame girl, the scraping of a kunai against the maze's steel walls threatened her eardrums near the point of rupturing pain; looking behind her would show a massive, hulking form, which stomped toward her as it continued dragging the kunai with a horrible screeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Azumi could look at her new pursuer, and no matter how near he got, she could see only shadows over his body, and a ninja headband tied around its usual place; was it Leaf? Stone? Mist? No, it was almost all of them, at once.

Boom! B-Boom! Explosions rang out through the maze, followed by wailing sobs of pain -- all too familiar to Azumi. Something she'd experienced before. It was the sound of the battlefield she called home.

Azumi worked to focus not on the weight of things, as she reminded herself this was just an illusion. The issue was how to dispel it, as far as she recalled her body was somewhat bound by the worm which had meant even if she had been aware this was just an illusion she had trouble when it came to force her hands together to try and dispel this.

The environment seemed to be this sort of twisted aesthetic of her home in many ways, the almost steampunk esque visuals along with the perpetual rain around her but that and how to get out of this illusion proved to be a secondary thought.

A rather horrific sound shifted the Ame Genin's attention, and before he had been a rather disturbing image. The sounds of conflict, that terrible war that had brought her nation to near ruin and left her to grow up int he ruts. This being, this dark entity who seemed to move with a malevolent purpose...it caused her calm composure to freeze as she tried to catch her breath. This was ever nightmare her mother had spoken of, the way things had been that led to their struggles in his childhood, the seed of evil as Azumi referred to.

"Just an illusion...just an illusion..." Azumi repeated in her mind, a whisper more than anything as she attempted to ready her umbrella. Only she discovered it was no longer there. In fact, as she glanced at her hands they seemed to be smaller than she recalled. And this opened her eyes as her appearance had taken a shift, no longer had she been in her proper ninja garb and had instead been in a more ragged set of clothing; as if she had become but a young child, no older than five once more.

Azumi stepped back in shock, but as she had she tripped over something and landed with a thud. Azumi glanced over and her eyes seemed to widen; as she saw what seemed to be a scared corpse of a Ame civilian along the ground. One that had a pair of kunai logged in her chest. All around Azumi had been the bodies of Ame civilians, the men the women and even children; victims in the war they never asked for merely had been in the "crossfires" of. The rain felt heavier and heavier, but perhaps that had been her heart as he composure grew thin and she started to become shaken.

It's just an illusion...it's just an illusion....it is JUST an illusion....
Yet no matter how Azumi tried to rationalize this to herself, that scared little girl who grew up in a broken land abandoned by the great nations who nearly destroyed it seemed to gain more sway. And as that black figure approached, as it moved closer with each step while its kunai continued to scrape the walls of this maze Azumi's body seemed to shift into an automated reflex and she had done the only thing that she could.

She ran into the maze, ran fast as her little legs carried her while tears dripped onto the blood-stained ground below.

Azumi's Mind
The bodies were everywhere, they were everywhere, everywhere around Azumi, more like quick-sand than like former people; the walls turned from steel to flesh, became their rotting, rain-soaked forms. The maze itself became their bodies. Some, still living, poked their hands out of the walls, desperate for Azumi to help them out of their sideways sinking fate.

Whatever shadow followed Azumi never seemed to lose sight of her. He just kept walking, chuckling along as he did. The whole arrangement was amusing to him, a delightful change of pace from his normal, daily affairs. But the shadow was just that; he always seemed close enough to make a move on Azumi, never to do so. Instead he followed, thumping footsteps, cackling laugh. And all around them, the sounds of war raged on.

Each path of the maze seemed to branch into forking doors -- harbingers of horrors personalized for the poor Rain kunoichi. Would it ever end?

This maze was becoming a nightmare the longer Azumi moved in it. Time seemed to be some sort of illusion, in fact so had all of this but the panicked mind as she moved about this nightmare of a maze. As if this had been some cruel joke with no punchline, each door seemed to only offer a gut punch rather than any escape from this twisted vision.

One door showed the depravity of the world she lived in, a poor woman mugged by a pair of men with suggestive expressions, another poor beggar robbed in plain sight as there seemed to be no enforcement in this lawless land.

Another door, and this one showed the struggles to get by. The lack of food, a resource that had long been stripped by visiting powers even as the war had passed. A sea of starving faces who fought for scrapes of bread in a chatoci mess. Each door seemed to lead Azumi nowhere, and this dark presence seemed to keep pace no matter how much she tried to lose him. In fact, that blood-stained kunai nearly had a clash at her shoulder, but she just managed to stumble and avoid the worst.

Azumi tried wiping the tears out of her eyes, a small voice in the back of her head urged her to recall this is just some deception. A trick, but it all seemed so real, and the images clouded her thinking as this had been unlike any Genjutsu she expected to encounter.

But Azumi still tried to find a way out, a way to get away a way to just have this all end. There had to be something anything to grant her salvation, and as she stumbled ahead to a larger door a figure seemed to meet her there, one that had similar if not softer features to Azumi, but seemed a little older with a tired but kindness to her eyes. A look Azumi, whether as the child she seemed to be or the ninja she had been, had known all too well.

"M...m-mom?"

Azumi's Mind
"A-Azu-mi," The mother Noriko called out, her voice reminiscent of a high pitched beg. "This way, please, this way-- he'll get you, he'll get you!"

The room Azumi found herself in was that of her old home and a grave. Even the warmth spread by her mother's opening arms turned to rigid cold, as her mother shrunk in size.

And from behind Azumi's mother, the shadow began to rise, a smile curled at his lips. His stretching arm passed explosively through her mom's chest, the shadowy kunai reaching out for the Ame genin.

Only two doors remained: the one Azumi had just come through, and one behind the attacking shadow, straight ahead past the crumbling figure of her lost parent.

Azumi had never felt so small in her life. The image of her mother had brought a rare, almost foreign feeling to the young Ame ninja....true happiness, a warmth in this despair, and even that seemed to crumble before her eyes.

That sinking feeling that any joy in her life, any happiness had been stripped of that dark figure. No...not it. Azumi's tears seemed to fall as her expression shifted from fear, to anger. Anger at the true source of her pain, the real thing that had given this maze its power.

She glanced at the dark figure who blocked the one door left in this, one that lunged for her. Tried to make her suffer the way others had, but Azumi gripped her hands as that scared girl seemed to grow in an instant. And so she charged.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

*****
Azumi's eyes snapped open as she seemed to shatter the illusion, blood trickled down as she had bitten her tongue as the pain allowed her to figuratively clear the path, but she panted a bit as the experience seemed to be draining.

However, even as she panted, her eyes focused a little onto Keito...and a glare, a gaze he'd pick up could send shivers as a look of utter fury and pure malice was present. Hatred, directly solely on the one who had made her live that nightmare.

She would not lose here, not like this....not on this land, not to him!
Azumi tried to gather her strength, to shake off this almost drunken stupor that the illusion had caused, and tried to force her arms together even as the worm constricted her. She worked to just get her fingertips together, as she began to try and form signs with all the effort she'd be able to muster.

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5
It could have been seconds. It could have been minutes. It could have been hours. Keito kept his prey under as long as he could, forcing back her malleable will with that of his own -- and, in part, aided by the worm Ubongirigiri. Still, Keito could only hold on for so long as Azumi explored the darkness of her own mind. Eventually, the pain started to seep through; he felt the genin's anguish near as if it were his. Until then, the Iwa genin could hardly picture the violence of war besides that which he read in old textbooks, or stories told to him by his father, now a veteran of two shinobi wars.

He hadn't expected the destitution, the desolation -- the utter lack of any emotional aside from terror, and the driving force of one's own survival instinct. Keito had read about the deaths in Amegakure as nameless statistics to be devoured in a library; Azumi had lived it all -- a reality harsher than any fiction a creative mind could imagine.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Everyone in the stadium could feel the chains of Keito's genjutsu being broken, maybe even the crunching down of teeth through tongue given proximity.

'She almost bit her god-damn tongue off,' The fatigued Iwa ninja noted. 'I thought I had her. And here I am: used up too much chakra, between summoning and Maindo Keimusho...'

While Azumi momentarily reeled from the physical and mental fatigue brought about by the Mind Prison, Keito moved his tired, bleeding body to his sakabatou, pulling it from the ground.

'I took my shot and I missed it,' He thought, watching light return to Azumi's eyes, turned into pure, burning hatred as those eyes found him through the daze. 'That's a shame, I guess. Sorry, everyone; this one just wants it more than I, you know?'

Keito could tell the tired, injured Ubongirigiri struggled to hold on tight to Azumi after she'd broken free from the genjutsu. And he saw, to his dismay, the girl still somehow managing to form hand-signs, having forced her restrained limbs close enough to mold chakra for jutsu. He had no other choice.

Raising the sakabatou in front of his face, Keito used his left hand to form the Ram seal, disappearing in a cloud of smoke. He'd need the Body-Flicker to work this time where it hadn't before. Keito needed to be quicker than he'd ever been.

"Wanting it more" had been a rather stock phrase, but that pure drive to win that pure desire to emerge victories proved to have more weight than mere motivation. In spite of the struggles of the worm, Azumi had just barley managed to get her fingers together to form the needed signs.

Azumi sensed that, between the mental fatigue she had endured, and the wounds Keito had taken, that this struggle was close to an end. It was more a matter of who'd be able to deliver a finishing blow to the other, and Azumi had one thing that fueled her drive...

"Water Style: Mist Cutter Jutsu!"

...it would be her!
As Keito seemed to vanish in smoke, Azumi shot out a stream of water from her mouth, a mixture of chakra and her saliva as she used the thin stream to slash at the sections of the worm that had her waist and wrists bound. Blood seemed to shot out as she cut herself free and quickly worked for her umbrella that had fallen on the body of the worm. Keito was quick to meet her, as both young ninja prepared to deliver dual strikes.

Azumi aimed to try and deliver a thrusting stab aimed for Keito's gut with the extended blade at the tip of her umbrella. Azumi had little time to judge the aim of his own swing, as she trusted her body to duck the motion of Keito's swing to avoid the worst of his slash.

Azumi cared little if he had gotten a grazing cut to her shoulder or something, she seemed set on dealing heavy damage as her eyes screamed with that invigorated intensity of hers.

The crowd looked on with baited breath, as they wondered who'd come out on top in this key exchange. But Azumi cared nothing for them, her mind had one thought that worked to fuel her fire.

I must win, I will win, I'll show every last one of you all what we are about!

Ugokasenai Keito, Iwa Genin
Stadium 5
He'd gone in from up high again, whereas she'd come from down low. What were the odds of that? Keito had seen the hand signs, but he'd just been a hair too slow. What else was new? He'd taken his swing, but Azumi had ducked below and grabbed her umbrella. Still, Keito pressed on, slashing his blade in at her neck before she could deliver a retaliatory blow.

The pair moved together liked actors performing on the stage, Keito's sword swinging, Azumi thrusting her umbrella up and--

Cracck--!

Shhhnkk--!

In their synchronized slashes, Keito's sakabatou missed its marked, its tip slamming down hard into Azumi's right shoulder, sending crackling vibrations down the bones of her arm -- a vicious blow in its own right.

But Keito looked down and saw that damned umbrella jammed into his stomach like a tent-spike driven through the ground. Sure enough, the Iwa genin could taste blood on his lips. She'd gotten there first, of course. And her attack diverted his, just enough: a tragedy told in split-second snippets.

"Damn," He sputtered, one eye closed as he made eye contact with Azumi. "Is that my pancreas?"

His body slid off Azumi's steel and dropped to the ground with a harsh thud; Keito's head turned to look up to the sky through his open eye -- how different the sky looked. Was it a different shade of blue? No more did the sun peak over puffy clouds to stare down at him; instead, the clouds locked the sun away like a newly hidden treasure.

That eye closing, Keito's opponent could hear him speak, faintly:

"Sorry about all of that-"

Needless to say much in the crowd had been stunned, the two shinobi traded hard blows as they seemed to land dueling strikes on one another. Azumi gritted her teeth. The pain that shot through her shoulder had been no paper cut, her dominant arm seemed to get a good blow in as she felt blood trickle down the side of his blade. The soreness shot through her as if she had been hit by a bull, and even in spite of that one thing became clear.

Azumi had managed to land a decisive shot to her target.

Her umbrella stuck right into the gut of Keito, the blade at its end seemed to press into his body as blood dripped from her foe. It had not been a clean visual, and as Azumi worked to catch her breath she tried to focus past the pain in that very arm that held the umbrella to her foe, but it seemed that her strike was not fatal as Keito had some choice words for her.

While others may have found that amusing as he slipped off the end of her blade to the ground, Azumi had only found further infuriating.

"You...you dare, after all that..." Azumi cursed, the idea he made a quip of all things even after such a blow seemed to fuel her anger which still stewed over from that nightmare illusion he trapped her in. Azumi had heard the seemingly more sincere apology he passed but to her, that had been a token gesture. Overshadowed by the insult of that little "joke" of his. Azumi, even with her arm sore and the general mental and physical fatigue managed to focus past the pain as she raised her umbrella up. Seemingly with the intent to smash his skull in while he had been down, but before she'd make that swing, the proctor came between them and glanced back at the Ame Genin with a tired expression.

"Enough, he cannot continue. This match is over." The proctor clarified, as Azumi took a moment to take a breath and managed to hear some faint snores from Keito as he rested with his hand holding the open wound. Slowly, Azumi shifted the umbrella behind her back, but her gaze shifted from her foe to the true source of her tempered emotions as she cast a glare right in the direction of the Five Kage.

"I am sure none of you expected this, huh? Some lowly Ame ninja making it past the opening round. Hard to imagine right?" Azumi said, her voice low but it seemed to gain volume as her bitter sarcasm had been heard loud and clear. "Well get used to it! The days of Amegakure being a doormat to the world, someone you can just walk over with no regard are over! When this day concludes, you will be forced to crown me the winner of this little festive, and you all will know what the spirit of Amegakure really is!" Azumi said, as she had been overflowing with emotion and just unleashed it all out in her rant. Years of bottled up emotions burst out at once, and slowly she had already began her walk back to the medical station as the proector took note of Keito before he glanced back at Azumi and sighed.

"The winner of the match, Azumi Noriko."
Since you've all

Very nice in-dept analysis, what would your final verdict be?
I don't think Keito passes, very much lacked any offensive presence though his defense wasn't bad. As Azumi points out internally, Keito barely does anything to even make her take him seriously. Overall he fought a...fairly average fight, and the genjutsu with his worms was opportune.

Azumi does excellently, and I expect to see more from her in the next fights.

As requested, a self-assessment of my own fight
The crowd had been in an uproar as Kiro stood in his battlefield, but that was probably due to another match which would be taken place. They were practically foaming in the mouth due to the matchup between Shiho Hyūga and Raiku Uchiha. A duel between the two dojutsu wielding, noble clans if the Leaf. There was pride at stake for the Uchiha clan. With the Hyūga Heiress having failed the previous round, all eyes were now transfixed on the supposed Uchiha prodigy. That may or may not have been overhyped by the crowd and papers advertising the event. While Shiho was respectable in her own right, she did not carry with her the status of Hyūga Heiress and so, this was a match Raiku could not afford to lose.

In a way, the attention placed on Raiku benefitted Kiro. Less eyes would be on a match of the unknown. While Kiro would prefer not to, if he found himself in a position where it was necessary to use his eyes, there was less of a chance of him being caught. Even so, the obnoxious clamoring for the Uchiha annoyed him slightly and it was like there was a dark shadow cast over his eyes as he gazed forward to await his opponent.

His expression seemed to lighten when Yan Xia Roulan finally made her appearance. The waiting was over and Kiro could finally focus on her instead of the distractions around them. Like usual, she held a serious expression and didn’t even say a word to him. He could respect it. On the battlefield, it was kill or killed after all. There was no room for the common exchange of pleasantries, unless one was comfortable enough to make an attempt to do of course. While Kiro would prefer not to harm a girl, he’d respect her desire to fight. Locking eyes with his opponent, Kiro instead opted for a generous gesture, or perhaps cocky one depending on the perspective.

“After you, Xia.” Kiro said in a calm tone, offering her the first move

Here's where Kiro loses the initiative and he spends the whole fight trying to get it back

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

Roulan—or rather Sagisō—nodded lightly in response to Kiro’s words but otherwise did nothing. Her eyes stayed trained on the proctor who had yet to give the signal for the match to begin.

When the proctor declared the beginning of the match, Sagisō immediately threw a scroll to the floor—one of her newest purchases in the leaf. As the scroll fell to the ground and unfurled, the script for 'Water' could be seen. With a pair of hand seals, Sagisō stepped on the scroll and unsealed it, causing oodles of water to emerge from the scroll as it seemed to store what was a pond-sized volume of water.

As the water began to spread around her Sagisō was already weaving hand seals in preparation for her next move, her chakra already flowing through her feet and into the water beneath her.
I look at this opening in hindsight and cringe because doesn't do nearly as much as it could've to capitalize on a free move.

It's kind of a flat opening that doesn't advance the fight offensive or defensively, it just lets her save chakra, which shouldn't have been a priority on turn one unless she intended to play the long game, which she doesn't do—and worse yet she doesn't even move from her position. This is almost worse than Kiro just giving a way the first move.

Roulan was not the only one who had been preparing for this stage of the exams. Kiro had come ready to blow this bitch up if he had to. The “bitch” being the stadium itself. As soon as the girl unleashed the scroll, Kiro’s hands were already above the seals on his wrists with three kunai in his hands. Two had explosive tags attached and were coated in gunpowder while the other was imbued with some electricity. By the time the water was just starting to spread out of the scroll, the three kunai would already be in the air, aimed towards the feet of his female opponent. The one in front was the lightning kunai, which would electrify the water Roulan was standing on and potentially her too. The other two kunai would land almost immediately after, which was when the explosive tags would explode. Even if the electricity didn’t activate them, they were still set to explode.

Originally, his aim with the kunai had been to force Roulan to move from her current position. Now he should be able to achieve the same effect while also destroying the scroll and her water supply. Even if she did somehow manage to get a jutsu off, the combined force of two explosions should be enough to instantly destroy it.

Of course, Kiro wasn’t done there. After he had thrown the kunai, he then summoned a fūma shuriken attached with a dozen explosive tags or so and connected to a wire. Should the explosions occur as Kiro expected them too, he would immediately throw the large shuriken upwards. It would be in an arc aimed to go over the area of the explosion before going down. However, it’s primary objective was actually quite simple. The girl just needed to see it. That’s because he had summoned two more kunai with his other hand. Just one of the kunai would seemingly be an actual a threat though.

Kiro would throw both after the fūma was launched, so when Roulan saw the giant shuriken, it would already be too late for her eyes. Thanks to the shuriken being thrown above the explosion, no matter which way Roulan avoided it, the smoke wouldn’t be able to block her from seeing the explosive weapon. With her eyes drawn to that area for just a moment, that’s when the kunai with a flash bang attached to it would enter her vision. The regular kunai would simply strike through the flash bang, activating it, before being deflected upwards and falling harmlessly somewhere near the outskirts of the arena while other one would just be sent downwards. As for the flash bang, assuming it even got to that point, Kiro would obviously avoid being blinded before continuing to go on the offensive, presumably with the fūma shuriken. After all, Kiro should be able to know which Roulan had gone if she chose to avoid the first explosion.
Le gasp, a shurikenjutsu combo that uses several smaller shuriken/kunai around a large fuma wrapped with bomb tags. Where have I seen that before?

Jk jk

Overall an excellent offense intended to counter, disorient, then punish the opponent. Very nearly wrapped up into one package, but seems too reliant on things going as planned. I'd take a stab and say Kiro was confident she'd counter the first move (the kunai and gun powder) and so had already gone ahead and set up the second move (the Fuma)

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

She had expected bombs, her opponent had seemed awfully fond of them from their very first encounter and she had come prepared with a counter-measure. However, she hadn't expected the chance to use her counter-measure would come so soon or with such perfect timing.

As Kiro sent his shuriken through the air, Sagisō stomped—hard. The stomp served two purposes: one, it stopped the release of water from her scroll; two, it initiated the jutsu she'd just been weaving—Water Style: Spider Lily!

Like the petals of a spider lily, the water around her began to rise in tendrils, forming a wall of water in front of her. The area immediately around her and the scroll dried as the water was displaced to create this wall; meaning the lightning had little else to do but discharge its payload into the water wall—a payload which really should've been large if her opponent wanted to accomplish anything significant. Even if it had hit her, such a small discharge would be severely weakened after spreading across the water. However, it was still enough current to set off the sensitive explosive tags and balls of gun-powder that landed in the water soon after.

Her opponent had been very precise in his calculations and the resulting explosions decimated Sagisō's wall of water—exactly in the way she'd hoped he would; not enough tags to greatly evaporate the water but just enough to create a strong explosion that send water droplets splashing across the arena at blinding speeds. Water droplets that quickly and subtly narrowed into a scatter-shot of water-senbon as with a single hand-seal, Sagisō utilized her water-shuriken technique. She had been careful with molding her chakra, only molding the rough half of water droplets that weren't heading in her direction.

The end result was an explosively launched shower of water-senbon; a furious and painful rain, that would prove difficult, if not impossible to avoid. Even if Kiro developed the visual prowess to track each and every water droplet, it would be like trying to count drops of rain—an effort in futility; and, even if he had the eyes and the sense to only track the ones on a direct course with him, the water-droplets were just that—droplets, too numerous and too densely packed for there to be any hope of slipping a human body through them unharmed. If Kiro wasn't careful he would quickly be turned into a porcupine.

This point was exemplified as an explosion rang out above the field—the Fuma with its dozens of paper-bombs unable to avoid the hail of water droplets. Just one had been enough to cause it to detonate quite harmlessly in the air.
OOC I think I was overly eager to use a counter I had prepared and Kiro did play right into it, but hindsight is 20/20 and Sagiso had a much simpler counter that would've saved the water rip

IC it's a solid reaction but def illustrates the point earlier about Sagiso's opening move being very bad, it immediately put her on the back foot.

Kiro expected Roulan to attempt to defend herself somehow, however, to form a complete water wall in such a short amount of time seemed implausible. At the very least she should’ve taken some damage. Considering the explosion did happen, Kiro still did end up throwing the in a gradually upwards arc. At the same time, the water droplets that were sent by the explosion, which somehow failed to completely evaporate the water wall, were suddenly turned into dozens upon dozens of water senbon. This meant his shuriken wouldn’t get far before it would be pelted by the rain. Realizing this, Kiro resealed the kunai with the flash bang and hopped back while moving his arms to cover himself in attempt to avoid taking further damage from the large explosion.

When the explosion occurred, Kiro was sent backwards, tumbling over before flipping back up to his feet as he neared wall. When he stood up, there were visible scratches and some burn marks over his uncovered body parts. His eyes stared in the direction of Roulan, perhaps more annoyed that she had caused his clothes to be dirtied. The positive part was that the explosion had prevented him from being struck by any of the water senbon.

‘So that’s her strategy to deal with my explosions then. Damnit! This will be risky, but it seems I’ll have to start expending my chakra now.’

Throwing down the remaining kunai in his hand straight into the earth besides his feet, perhaps in frustration, Kiro then ran forward to retake the offensive before Roulan could while rapidly performing hand seals. Five balls of fire were then launched from his mouth. At the same he was spewing out the flames, Kiro pulled out five basic shuriken from his weapons pouch and tossed them into the flames as they spread. Each one of the shuriken were now hidden inside a fireball.

The boy had used Fire Release: Pheonix Flower Jutsu and all the fireballs were targeted towards the location of his opponent, except aimed in a manner where they would spread out like five fingers reaching out to grab something. After all, the main perk of this jutsu was that he could freely control each fireball. Yet, Kiro wasn’t finished. He would immediately follow up by pulling out three kunai, each enhanced with lightning chakra as well. Then he threw them directly at the girl. With their trajectory going straight for Roulan combined with the force Kiro threw them, the kunai would reach her before the fireballs, if not right through the girl assuming she was foolish enough to stay in the same place.

‘Let’s see you block this with your water. Youwon’t.’
:v

His offense reads like he might've had something in mind but hard to say since he abandons it to counter Sagiso's following move

Village Hidden in the Leaf, Chunin Exams Arena – Day of the Exams

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

The proximity of the blast had blown Sagisō backward, forcing her to tuck into a roll until she was forced to a stop by the arena's wall. The spray of droplets had soaked her body before being evaporated by the heat of the blast. That layer of water had protected her from any serious burns but she had not avoided her fair share of scrapes and bruises; but, she had been able to track the kunai and anticipate the explosions, and as such, her recovery was not as haphazard as her opponent's.

Eyes flashing, the girl sprung upward to regain her footing while—hidden by her billowing hair—she released a flash-bang and began weaving hand seals. The flashbang had been thrown in such a way that it would be hidden by her body until she hit the ground. At that point, she would bend at the knees, storing energy in her tendons in preparation to spring forward with blinding speed.

If Kiro had been paying attention, the exact moment she bent her knees would be the moment the flashbang was revealed, peaking above her head, and he wouldn't be able to avoid its immediate detonation. If he had somehow turned away in time, then he would be blind towards the girl's movements while the blinding light behind her would provide her with the perfect cover.

Phantoms flashed forward, smears of speed as they raced past Kiro's attacks. These were basic clones and hidden inside their bodies were shuriken and attached to them were bombs and an additional flashbang. The spread of Kiro's fireballs would allow them to pass between the gaps. It wouldn't help that the boy was running forward as he would have even less time to react to these clones—and assuming he could somehow avoid the first flash, if he looked back to gauge the distance of her two-paper bomb clones, he would open himself up to a point-blank flash as light easily passed through the illusory clones.

Regardless, more important than the clones were the main body's actions. Rather than spring forward, Sagisō's real body had sprung upward, scaling the walls of the arena. In her hands was her water scroll—the scroll having been blown back with her in the blast. Estimating that the scroll only had about half of its water remaining she promptly swapped out for a fresh scroll. As she activated the scroll, she threw it in the air, sending a kunai chasing after it.

The kunai would nail the scroll to the wall at another section of the arena; but, as the scroll released its payload—a waterfall-like deluge from on high—it would drench the ground and Kiro beneath it, should he still be in its path. Hidden by the spring of water and dangling from the end of the kunai was another one of Sagisō's more recent purchases—a bomb. If Kiro had any way of seeing inside the clones, he would note that the bombs within them were also new additions to her arsenal, the same type of bomb.

Although she would've loved to press the offense even further, Sagisō was paying close attention to Kiro as the clones closed in on him. His actions would determine the order in which she detonated her tools.
Mmm, not much to say here. She already had her next move and Kiro's reaction mapped out, to the point where she was confident in not pressing the assault because she was sure what she'd done was already enough.

Kiro had been paying close attention to her hands, trying to see if Roulan would use a jutsu to defend herself that he didn’t even get a chance to see the flashbang due to it erupting as soon as it peaked out over her hair. Of course, the bright light enveloping the area around Roulan was still enough to get him to pause.

“Damn her!”

Fortunately, since he hadn’t been directly looking at the flashbang, but rather her hands, his senses weren’t as discombobulated. This meant Kiro was able to see the three clones earlier than Roulan might’ve liked. However, the light did help her conceal the items with Kiro being none the wiser.

“Clones? That’s not gonna help you!”

Right when she leapt into the air, Kiro redirected three of the fireballs towards incoming clones, thinking that they were real. Since he had been running towards Roulan at first, the clones would’ve been able to reach him faster. Conversely, his fireballs would be able to reach the clones faster, especially since they were aiming to pass through the gaps between the flames. Of course, his main focus was still on the girl in midair. He didn’t hesitate to send the remaining two fireballs at her. Well, it ended up only being one since Kiro ended up redirecting another fireball towards the scroll. The shuriken inside the flame would strike the seal on the scroll as the fireball exploded, destroying it. At the same time they were redirected, three shuriken laced with gunpowder, along with having an explosive tag attached to them, were summoned in his hand. Imbued with a sliver of his chakra, they were thrown immediately at Roulan’s trajectory.

He wanted to see how she planned to dodge or even block the fireball with the three dangerous shuriken following it not too far behind. Being completely midair meant she didn’t have much options to dodge what was essentially a faster fireball that could track her down. On the other hand, she could attempt to block with a makeshift water wall somehow, but Kiro was confident these explosions would be more than enough to evaporate most it this time.
In hindsight even if he was looking at her hands, he wasn't anywhere close enough to have his vision narrow in so he should've been totally flashed.

Kiro seems to have lost his cool, and for the last two moves has been hyperfocused on a water wall that'll never come u.u

Village Hidden in the Leaf, Chunin Exams Arena – Day of the Exams

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

Sagisō clicked her tongue as Kiro diverted his fireballs, attempting to counter all her moves at once. The clones had been minor tricks so the virago paid no mind to them as the fireballs incinerated the ninja tools within. Three fireballs down with two remaining. The pair of fireballs split, one going after her and another after her scroll.

The latter she didn't worry about as she had already expected this reaction from Kiro. That was why she'd attached one of her new bombs to the scroll. As soon as Kiro's fireball was within range of the bomb, she would detonate it; the results of which would create a small cloud of mist that hung in the air, murkying vision from the arena floor from its sky-high walls. The misty explosion would send the scroll flying erratically, spraying its contents about in a wild spin that would cascade the arena below in a downpour of 'rain'.

Meanwhile, Sagisō would apply the same tactic to the fireball headed towards her. She withdrew three kunai tagged with paper bombs and threw them in a triangular formation. The bombs were spread out to cover a large angle in front of her and would detonate when they neared the fireball. The ideal outcome was the destruction of the fireball and the gun-powder-laced shuriken that followed it; however, even if Kiro controlled the shuriken to avoid her blast, she had used her explosions to block off the most direct route to her. This meant his shuriken would have to travel the long way around all three of her explosions adding on extra time that would make her escape all but assured.

As her feet touched the arena walls, chakra held her in place, and beneath the cover of the explosions and the spreading mist, Sagisō vanished as she used the mist-rain created by her scroll to enact the hiding in drizzle technique.

She raced along the arena walls, weaving hand seals—Water Release: Starch Capturing Field! Rather than at Kiro, Sagisō direct her jutsu into the air above the mist where the sticky water began to mix with and conceal itself in the make-shift rain. As the rain fell on the arena below it would turn sporadic patches of the arena into hidden glue traps of varying stickiness, greatly restricting movement.

More importantly though, as the sticky rain fell on Kiro it would glue his body parts together while also gluing him to the ground—crippling both movement and any further hand seals just long enough for Sagisō to nail with another attack. Pulling water from the air she had created a liquid fuma shuriken and within it was another of her special bombs.
Immediately capitalizes and makes a move to heavily restrict her opponent's movements. Neither he nor clone ever falls into any of these, but tis a good move nonetheless.

By now, Kiro had come to expect an excellent counter to anything he threw at the girl. She was quite skilled to say the least. Roulan ended up protecting her scroll by triggering the bomb she had attached to it. The ice bomb not only shielded the scroll from being destroyed, but also reversed the outcome Kiro had wanted. The scroll was sent flying, spinning out of control, and spewing out water in nearly every direction. Avoiding every single droplet was currently not very possible for Kiro, so he ended up getting some water on him.

However, the main thing he wanted to avoid was the cloud of mist forming near area of the explosion. Primarily the sticky water that was raining down from it. He figured the girl had launched her syrup jutsu into the cloud. Fortunately, Kiro was currently outside its range. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t last for long as the mist continued to spread. To his left, he could see the mist being formed and spreading in a certain direction. Logically, all the mist would gradually spread at the same speed, but the mist near the wall was simply spreading faster for some reason. It didn’t take long for the buy to figure out what she was up to. He glanced briefly behind him, then turned fully to the left in the direction a majority of the mist was spreading in.

‘I can’t afford to spend my chakra so recklessly right now, but I need to start applying some pressure. Her intent is too cover the arena in a mist. In that case...’

Kiro began moving closer towards the side of the area where mist was quickly spreading as he quickly performed the hand seals. The mist was rotating around the arena wall at a decent pace, so Kiro would have to time his next attack accurately. With the hand seals having been completed, Kiro stopped and brought his head back before launching a large stream of fire from his mouth. It was the Fire Release: Fire Wave technique. The flames spread wide as Kiro aimed to cover the area of the wall was spreading towards. If his guess was correct, the girl would be somewhere there with the mist following her. Since Kiro couldn’t see her exact location, even through the mist, he hoped the large spread of the attack would be enough to get her.
Idk how he figured that, he's never seen the effects of this jutsu before xD

In any case, Kiro makes a very logical deduction here, so I can only really applaud his quick thinking.

Village Hidden in the Leaf, Chunin Exams Arena – Day of the Exams

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

By this point, Sagisō had judged that the distance between her and her opponent was a double-edged sword. The distance allowed her to comfortably react to his moves but it likewise allowed him the same privilege.

She noted that Kiro had estimated her location and then chose to blanket her location in a wide-spread fire-release. Sagisō was okay with this.

Clutching her Fuma underarm, the virago weaved a pair of hand-seals and took a deep breath—Water Style: Syrup Capturing Field!

Rather than the sprinkling of water she'd released earlier, Sagisō choose to meet Kiro head-on by releasing a powerful, continuous stream of sticky water into the flames. The contact between water and fire resulted in an explosive release of thick and sticky steam, which caused the mist to rapidly expand while gaining some of the adhesive properties of her starch capturing field.

But Sagisō wasn't done there, she lined herself up with Kiro below and then...launched herself! She dove straight down at him pushing back his flames with her water release. With the steam being created from the clash between fire and water ahead of her, Sagisō's descent would be largely concealed.

She suspected that Kiro wouldn't even be able to tell that his flames were being pushed back since he would only see the stream disappearing into the now rapidly thickening and expanding steam. With his visibility reduced to near zero, the boy would have seconds—the time during which Sagisō was airborne—to decide his next action.
Very bold, very risky, those are the main takeaways.
It wasn’t too difficult to determine what exactly Roulan had countered his attack with. The moment the steam began to spread rapidly was when Kiro knew she was shooting water at the fire. Reluctantly, Kiro’s sharingan was then immediately activated along with something else. It was good that the steam had covered a good part of the arena or everyone would’ve been able to see his eyes. Even though he didn’t know Roulan herself was also falling towards him, this reaction was close enough to what he was looking for.

Since he needed only one hand to control the fire, Kiro quickly pulled out a scroll with the other. He held it sideways, while allowed the scroll to fall open, facing the fire wave. When it did, that’s when the condition activated the scroll. The specific condition for this scroll was that it would activate when it was heated to a certain temperature while open. Of course, the heat from the fire was quite enough to trigger it. Once the scroll was activated, a strong gust of wind ended up being released into the flames, fueling it while also pushing the water back. Anything else that happened to be pushed inside would likely be pushed back a bit as well.

A bead of sweat trickled down the side of Kiro’s face. Perhaps this was due to the heat or maybe it was because of the chakra expenditure. This was a very risky play on his part. Even with wind enhancement, it was still possible for Roulan to overpower the fire if she wanted to. If Kiro failed to hold off the water, then he would be soaked. From his experience in the Mist, he knew first hand how dangerous that could be against a water release user. However, that result would depend on if Roulan was willing to do what was necessary to douse the flames with water.
What he might lack in other areas, Kiro makes up for in prior preparation.

Also, that clone is p lucky to have avoided all the scalding mist and the glue traps scattered over the arena.

Village Hidden in the Leaf, Chunin Exams Arena – Day of the Exams

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

The scalds she received from the steam was a worthy sacrifice to obtain the chance she sought; so as the girl's furs were matted with the heated steam, stickied from its adhesive properties, and her skin was beginning to flush from the excessive heat, she prepared her final move. Sagisō had intended to time an explosive burst of chakra, rapidly widening and overpowering Kiro's fire release while leaving him in a precarious position where he wouldn't be able to avoid getting pinned by her sticky water.

However, as Sagisō gauged the strength of this fire release she noted it was getting stronger...much stronger...in fact, too strong. Her expression shifted dramatically as her water released was pushed back with a sudden gale that had caused even her to halt in the air. 'Wind?'

It was a little-known fact that when empowered with wind, fire release could clash against water release without losing. With the addition of wind even if she dramatically increased the strength of her water release, Kiro could still overpower her by increasing the strength of his fire release.

His actions were beyond Sagisō's initial expectations, but she hadn't been caught completely flat-footed. The Fuma shuriken she had created earlier was still in hand, although the water had boiled away to reveal the ice-bombs within. The casing of water had protected them from the immense heat of the fire and allowed her to employ them at this critical moment.

Sagisō strengthened her water released, not to overpower the fire, but to open up a small safe zone around her. With the wind and fire blowing her water backward, Sagisō was quickly soaked by her own water, the outermost layers of which were even beginning to boil. However, it was at this moment that Sagisō detonated her own ice-bombs, flash-freezing the inner-most layer of water and encasing herself in a layer of ice.

Now a Sagisō-popsicle the girl had just enough protection to weather the fire wave. The dual forces of gravity and the blow-back Kiro's own attack caused her to be pulled out of the fire wave, and the ice around her rapidly melted as she dropped out of the fire stream and into the hot steam below. Kiro's addition of wind had punched a hole right through the steam, and that displaced steam had been forced to the sides, thickening the steam directly around it. This was combined with the water from Sagisō's earlier scroll which would've also begun turning to steam with the rapid increase in heat. The end result was zero-visibility steam as thick as it was scalding.

Within the steam, Sagisō landed on the ground below the fire wave which was still aimed at the upper reaches of the arena's walls. The deafening sound of Kiro's flames destroying the arena's wall also served to perfectly mute any sound from her landing. Sagisō had sustained no small number of first-degree burns and even quite a few second-degree ones despite her being coated in water and ice.

Still, this was an opportunity she would not miss. She swiftly went through a series of hand-seals, performing two jutsu utilizing the water around her to fuel the first while disappearing with the second. If and when Kiro realized what had happened it would perhaps already be too late...
Ice bombs are pretty clutch, Sagiso is very resourceful and makes many risky moves at great cost to herself.
Kiro was expecting the girl to continue her attempts at overpowering his fire with water and expected to be overtaken at any moment. However, that moment never came. Perhaps she had actually gotten disintegrated by the fire. Kiro doubted that would happen, but there was no sign of any water coming through his fire. The only way to find out what happened was to stop the fire wave, which he did. With the fire dissipating, Kiro could clearly see the wall in front of him, but no sign of Roulan. At the very least, the view gave him confirmation of something else. He had to act fast.

“This was your plan, right? If you’re gonna finish this, don’t be a coward! Come out and face me yourself!”

The boy tried provoking Roulan as he performed quick hand seals for Lightning Release: Chain Lightning technique, hoping the chains wouldlock onto her if she was nearby. Since her chakra covered most of the mist around him besides the front, Kiro would then lunge forward and junk towards the wall. The remnants of mist in that direction should’ve been just enough to keep the spectators from noticing his eyes, if they weren’t already distracted by something else. Fortunately, the unusual stickiness from the Mist hadn’t been enough to impede his movements, especially since he had also superheated the chakra in his legs to dissolve and liquid that got on them.
solid, practical reaction.

Village Hidden in the Leaf, Chunin Exams Arena – Day of the Exams

Sagisō
Rank 36 — Heavenly Skillful Star | Yan Roulan

Kiro's provocation only served to allow the girl to once more confirm his location from her position underground. His subsequent jumping around then allowed her to confirm his location with even more precision. She had expended no small volume of chakra to utilize her strongest technique—Water Release: Water Fang! This was a B-rank technique, incredibly fast and incredibly powerful.

The water release technique caused water to rotate at incredibly high speeds which she had then utilized to drill into the ground. Following that, she has utilized the hiding in water technique, which allowed her to conceal herself in what should've been an impossibly small volume of water.

The steam above her along with several puddles of scattered water had been saturated with her chakra, providing cover for her as she hid. It was perhaps these scattered puddles that prevented Kiro's chain lightning from locking onto her or, failing that, if it had locked onto her it had probably run itself straight into the ground as it tried to make a B-line to her position.

Her water drills were fairly thin, which made them silent as they burrowed through the ground. Moments after they'd hidden they would re-emerge directly under Kiro, penetrating the soles of his feet before moving onto sieve his body.

Of course, while the drills assaulted her opponent Sagisō continue to bide her time underground.
This is the first and last time Sagiso lands a hit on Kiro :v

Albeit, he's likewise not had many direct hits.
Kiro was already planning to jump up the wall once he got close enough. Yet, when the boy jumped forward, the chain of lightning that had been occupied with the random puddle on the floor suddenly chained into a direction right under him. Unfortunately, Kiro didn’t have time to react as he felt something sharp pierce through his legs. It was like multiple sharp needles going right through them, causing Kiro to curse in pain. They weren’t stopping either, and more seemed to be coming at him from underground. The girl was more cowardly than even Raiku. For all that big talk of hers, the most damage she could do him was when she was hiding safely underground.

‘Pathetic.’

Using shape transformation, Kiro changed the lightning into a blade like shape and then swiped at the water, attempting to break its connection with him. Of course, the lightning was enough to distort the water enough. Since he had been going in a forward motion, he was able to avoid being crippled by the rest of the water. Unfortunately, his legs had to be the sacrifice.

By the time he land on the side of the wall, blood was already starting to stream out from the multiple tiny holes on his legs. The boy grimaced in pain as he spared as little chakra as he could to remain attached to the wall. Kiro then turned around and looked around at the ground, frantically searching for Roulan with his sharingan. From what he could tell, she was only able to attack him from underground due to the sound he made. That’s why it would be in his best interest to remain as quiet as possible. Glancing up to the top of the wall, the boy then nodded as he understood what he had to do.

He pulled out six shuriken with gunpowder and an explosive tag attached to them. Three in each hand as Kiro began to limp up the wall. Then he threw three of them into the air above one-by-one. His intent was seemingly to cause explosions in the air to create enough noise to distract her while avoiding lessening his field of vision. The only way for the girl to actually know where Kiro himself was would then be for her to come out of hiding. His own chakra was already pretty low due to the risks he had taken, so at best he had enough for one, maybe two strong jutsu. Right now was likely his last chance to win.
Since he was already using the sharingan, the smoke wouldn't have mattered and would've cleared the mist and some of the water, more a missed opportunity than a demerit tho

The sound of deafening explosions prevented Sagisō from further triangulating Kiro's position and so the girl cautiously extended her senses from a puddle hidden beneath the mist.

As Kiro took to the walls and began detonating bombs, the steam had been allowed to spread unhindered and it was finally near full coverage of the battlefield. Sagisō intended to help that along.

She silently emerged from her puddle and re-applied the hiding in drizzle technique, causing the already expansive mist to expand until it had covered every inch of the arena floor. From there Sagisō positioned herself between a number of puddles that had been imbued with her chakra from the earlier sticky rain.

The virago intended to confirm something but she wasn't going to do it without a little insurance.

"Proctor," She called out. "I was under the impression that killing wasn't permitted in these exams, but this guy has clearly tried to kill me several times. I request he be disqualified for his violation of the rules."
Uh, nothing to say here, no matter how you slice it, it's objectively a bad move for her to have revealed her location.
“This exam is meant to simulate live combat. A shinobi in control of a fight would have the battle go exactly how they please. If you’re allowing your opponent to freely throw around attacks you’re displeased with, then that’s your choice. With that said, killing isn’t necessarily allowed. However, I’ve yet to sense any actual bloodlust from the boy or seen any attack used with the intent to kill. That could be cause for disqualification. Since that doesn’t appear to be the case, your current request is denied.”

————————
It didn’t seem like Roulan was attacking anytime soon by the time as Kiro managed to make it to the top of the arena wall. The boy winced in pain as he stood up and took in deep breaths as he glanced at his bloody legs. Roulan had gotten a good hit on him, almost a deadly one. That was why Kiro found it funny he was able to hear her complaints from the other side of the arena. Apparently he had been trying to kill her multiple times. It was sad that after hiding away, she was stooping down to an even lower level by asking the proctor to disqualify him.

Fortunately, the proctor didn’t disqualify him. Taking advantage of knowing where her general location was, Kiro used a portion of his remaining chakra to use the fire wave jutsu again. He began to spread more fire, an an attempt to displace the mist and clear the wide angle in the direction the girl might be.

Out of no where, black smoke also suddenly began to cover the area Roulan had been talking from. A quick sniff would be able to smell that this was no ordinary smoke bomb. The dry, dark smoke gave off a fumy scent as it painted the area all around her pitch black. There had been two of these special smoke bombs. The third bomb thrown together with them was just a single gunpowder bomb, which sent the powder flying in all directions after it popped. More importantly, the smoke bombs had chakra infused into them, so when it spread, it coated the area in Kiro’s chakra, allowing him to see chakra that was not his own with his eyes. Of course, the finishing touches would come soon after.

There were three kunai thrown in as well, hidden by the spreading smoke as they silently flew into the dark smoke. Only a second later would the tags attached to them light everything up. Even if Roulan managed to escape in time, the explosion should still cause some serious damage. Perhaps even enough to knock her out for a few seconds. If she was so concerned about being touched, then Kiro could be generous for her. Hopefully, for the first and last time this match. The explosion itself also served as a good cover, as her own vision would be quite limited. More importantly, the water nearby should’ve been evaporated.
A strong offense that served multiple purposes, what more can I say?

The sudden appearance of smoke and its tell-tale smell immediately alerted Sagisō to Kiro's plan. With fire coming from above and the kinder he'd somehow prepared below, it was evident he planned to blow her and the arena to pieces. Without hesitation, she activated the insurance she had prepared for such a situation as this—Water Release: Spider Lily.

Tendrils of water, much thicker than the ones she'd created at the beginning of the match emerged from the puddles around her, swirling together into a defensive curtain. Although Sagisō had been expecting an attack such as this one, what she hadn't expected was for the igniter to come from somewhere else and the sudden detonation shattered her water curtain and flung her across the arena. She hit the wall with a crack that would've been sickening, had it not been drowned out by the sound of explosions.

It was her fortune that she'd made the mist hanging around her more viscous with the vaporization of her starch capturing field; the unnatural adhesive and cohesive properties of the mist had allowed the ambient particles of water to capture the spreading powders and then clump them together. This had concentrated the powder further away from her than Kiro might've liked as the powder's ability to spread was severely undercut.

Even with the explosion further away from her and the shockwave blunted by her Spider Lily, she was sure a rib or two had been broken. She could only watch helplessly as Kiro's fire wave bathed the arena in heat, wiping away much of the mist she'd created.

The girl grunted and pushed herself to her feet. What she'd gathered from her short conversation with the proctor was that as long as she didn't release her killing intent, it would be fine to attack with moves that could easily kill.

Striking a few hand-seals, Sagisō created a water-clone from one of the few puddles remaining on the very edges of the arena. The beauty of the water-clone technique was its ability to reproduce a clone with all the physical capabilities of the user and as Suigisō lacked the accumulated damage that Sagisō had sustained, she was in peak form. This was something she proved with action.

Suigisō shot out of the mist at top speed and lead with a double Arabian. She rounded off, heading for the center of the arena, and vaulted on her hands. She left a single paper bomb plastered to the ground as she sprang high into the air spinning into two somersaults as she neared the halfway mark on the wall.

On the first somersault, she dispensed three bomb-tagged kunai in a fan, which would nail themselves into the wall below Kiro. The tags were all fake, but that fact was unknown to her opponent. Had they been real, their explosions would've blown him off the wall and into the air, where he would be helpless to defend himself from a follow-up attack. The limited space on the wall limited the number of directions he could move in without being air-borne.

On the second somersault, she dispensed three more kunai. Only two were bomb-tagged, these tags real, and fanned out near the mid-point of the wall below Kiro. The last kunai had been thrown towards another section of the eastern wall, which she was closest to, and the wire attached to it would allow Suigisō to swiftly pull herself towards that wall.

Simultaneously with Suigisō's assault, still within the mist, Sagisō had condensed the remaining mist into four Fuma shuriken, causing it to fully vanish. All of the Fuma had been condensed around regular shuriken, but they were not the only regular shuriken in her hand. Sagisō dished out her shuriken in flourished pairs.

The first flourish sent two Fuma shuriken that had been loosely condensed using less chakra than was necessary. Sagisō threw them in opposite arcs towards Kiro on the wall, covering his right and left exits. Without the necessary chakra needed to hold the water together in its compact form, the water-shuriken began to disintegrate into a misty trail.

Their curved paths would delay them, ensuring they arrived shortly after Suigisō's first volley of fake bombs. If Kiro dodged left or right, he would dodge into the range of these Fuma shurikens, or rather, since the Fuma would've fully disintegrated at that point, he would dodge into the range of any approaching attack, hidden within the misty trail.

And there would be attacks hidden in the misty trail, but their trajectories were instead aimed to cover the right and left walls. Two bomb-tagged shurikens were headed for the sections of the wall, both right and left, he'd need to dodge towards in order to evade the explosions at his current position. These were the second flourished pair.

Sagisō kept the last two Fuma in hand as she began to move up the wall right behind her. She was closing distance in preparation for Kiro's reaction—seeking to pin him after he reacted, or if needed, detonate her various paper-bombs, which had been set to remote detonation.

Pretty much got lucky there that something planted earlier happened to be crucial at this moment.
‘So that’s how it is. Not that I can complain.’

If Sagisō or Suigisō looked close enough, they could see Kiro’s sharingan quickly analyzing the trajectory of all the thrown kunai from the water clone. It was pretty clear that remaining in his current position would be the unwise decision. Forcing him into the air must’ve been the aim of the Hasa Kunoichi. In that case, he’d give the girl what she wanted and perhaps even something more. Since his legs were currently not in the best shape, Kiro was forced to rely on his hands.

Before the first set of kunai with explosive tags dug themselves into the wall directly beneath him, Kiro let himself fall forward. As the boy did so, he turned his body enough to where he could push off a just a bit with his hands into a sort of half mid-air front flip. It granted him some extra distance from the wall. As he was falling towards the area where the next batch of kunai had now dug themselves of the wall, Kiro pulled out a smoke bomb and some kunai before immediately crushing the bomb with his hand just before passing over the explosives.

Of course, since they were set to remote activation, once they inevitably exploded, there were at least three kunai that burst out of the smoke in the direction of Suigisō. Their speed had been intensified all thanks to the force from the explosion. Meanwhile, there was another kunai that had been sent flying upwards, nearly over the arena walls. As the lone kunai drew near the center of the arena, it would then be shriuded in a white puff of smoke. Out of the smoke came the boy, his body turning midair while summoning six shuriken laced explosives tags and gunpowder, three in each hand.

Attempting to predict her movements to avoid the kunai, Kiro would then throw three of the Shuriken downwards at wherever Suigisō was. Fortunately, there was still some rising steam on the outskirts of the arena above the walls, which should’ve been enough to conceal his sharingan from the eyes of the spectators. The boy continued turning his body until he was prepared to throw the remaining three shuriken at Sagisō, who was running up the side of a wall. It was all thanks to his sharingan that allowed him to determine the real one and continued to watch her with it.

Sagisō

Sagisō decisively detonated the twin paper bombs as Kiro entered their range, the added smoke and loss of vision causing her to narrow her eyes warily. Ninja tools shot erratically from the smoke and littered the battlefield, the explosion shooting them in every which direction. None managed to near Sagisō or her clone, who had both been below the explosion but the numerous kunai did give the duo other things to focus on as Kiro hid amidst them. He didn't seem keen on stealth, however, dropping his transformation in mid-air.

Once he was in the air, Sagisō knew his ability to reposition was limited. She launched herself off the wall, spinning through the air. She noted as Suigisō intercepted Kiro's shuriken with one of her own, a chain reaction of explosions quickly eliminating all six shurikens. Using the explosions as a smokescreen Sagisō sailed both her Fuma towards Kiro's airborne location, they would detonate after a few seconds, where they would've been relatively close to the boy.

Sagisō also detonated the paper-bomb Suigisō had planted on the ground, creating a cloud of detritus that concealed her as she fell into it. Moments later, tendrils of water would shoot up from Sagisō's location, penetrating the debris clouds and seeking out the airborne Kiro. This was Sagisō's Spider Lily, generated from the water that had seeped underground through the holes she'd drilled with her Water Fang. This subterranean water had been protected from Kiro's best efforts at evaporating it.

And now she struck, capitalizing on this moment as Suigisō watched vigilantly, shuriken and bombs in hand, and Kiro remained limited by his airborne position.
idk what to say other than she clearly knew exactly what she doing. She was either being very resourceful or very deliberate.
Although Kiro managed to successfully avoid the potential explosions from kunai thrown earlier, being stranded midair still meant he had played right into her hands. He was unable to avoid the two fūma water shuriken Sagisō has sent his way. The concussive force from their simultaneous explosions were enough to knock the air out of him for a brief second, causing him to drop remaining shuriken he had in his hands. This was why he had to act before she could complete whatever her intended strategy was.

Fortunately, there was still another trump card Kiro had in play. You see, before the match had begun, Kiro prepared something just in case. It was high risk, high reward. By creating a shadow clone to charge up a certain technique of his, one that would normally take too much time if he did it himself during the middle of battle, Kiro had sacrificed a good portion of chakra before the match even started. It could’ve been costly, especially if Sagisō just happened to sweep away the kunai it was transformed into. Kiro had taken another risk by leaving it out on the battlefield. It had been the same seemingly basic kunai he threw on the floor earlier. It was supposed to take Sagisō by surprise and the opportunity did arise during the brief clash with his fire wave. The large amounts of steam would cover the clone while it waited on the walls, in one of the remaining clear areas in the arena, for its moment to strike.

For the clone to have thrown the previous smoke bombs accurately in the first place, it had to be near Sagisō. Which Kiro was after it was attempting to sneak behind her beforehand. Once she had cleared all the mist in the nearby vicinity, the clone had to refrain from coming any closer until the time came to strike. Now with both Sagisō and Suigisō focused on Kiro, the clone, which could be dubbed Kira, was able to move across the wall while still concealed by the remaining mist somewhat. Of course, the blue electricity that suddenly began to coat Kira didn’t help his cover much. What did help would be the sound of the explosions that would occur from the first three shuriken that he threw towards to Suigisō. Once they exploded, the sound should be enough to cover the noise of the electricity around clone, which would allow to get the jump on Sagisō before she could complete her finishing move.

After moving towards the bottom of the wall, Kira would dash towards Sagisō at blistering speeds. Even though Sagisō was concealed by the debris she had jumped into, his eyes allowed him to see her chakra inside as well as the chakra that began to rise up from beneath. Thanks to the sound of the latest explosions and the water erupting from the ground, that should’ve been enough noise to cover his advance. The clone aimed to quickly knock Sagisō out with a strike to the back of her neck before her attack connected with Kiro. Considering her thick hair was covering the entire back of her neck, there was still a chance the simple attack wouldn’t be enough. The clone would then try to hold onto her just in case it needed to proceed with a follow up attack.

I think the for the most part, Sagisō vs Kiro speaks for itself; they're both highly competent and tactical fighters.

Kiro spends much of the fight trying to deduce Sagiso's location and actions through a combination of logic and a really clutch guess or two. if nothing else it shows he's keen, observant, and more than a bit lucky. He has an amazing offensive presence and capacity for ninjutsu that I don't think has been matched by any other OC, he's ruthless in his approach and tends to cover every base he can—though this often results in him overextending and he doesn't appear to plan more than his next attack. He also doesn't seem to show much resourcefulness with regards to making use of the environment, prior attacks, or things like that—but what he might lack there he more than makes up for with prior preparation, which ultimately gave him the edge and the win.

Sagiso is...a wild fighter, as strategic as she is reckless, and in this battle, she certainly controlled the pacing. Kiro spent most of this fight either looking for her or guesstimating her location—her raw resourcefulness is perhaps her strongest showing but even it doesn't stop her from getting saved by coincidence when her reckless actions put her in precarious positions. Props to Kiro for being able to capitalize on these moments.

In spite of all that, it's hard to say she has a strong offensive presence...in the sense that she doesn't overwhelm her opponent with power but spends most of the fight positioning herself for high-risk, high-reward gambles, and most of these gambles fail due to Kiro's prior preparation or him just luckily not getting hit. All that said, she may not be the person you want leading teams in the field under any normal circumstances lol

Needless to say, this is not the most objective analysis and I do have my biases. Should compare it against Retro's analysis of the same situations.

Interesting analysis, what would your final verdict be on this?
Sagiso is the more flexible combatant of the two, though she comes off as the type to return from a mission with 90% casualties. So obviously she gets marks for combat but not for leadership unless you put her in charge of a suicide squad.

Kiro's the safer fighter but of the two times he got a decisive upper hand, they were both dependent on things he'd pre-prepared, which isn't bad but doesn't speak to his ability to perform under pressure. So likewise good marks for combat but leadership and decision making are lacking.

As requested, a self-assessment of my own fight

Here's where Kiro loses the initiative and he spends the whole fight trying to get it back

Le gasp, a shurikenjutsu combo that uses several smaller shuriken/kunai around a large fuma wrapped with bomb tags. Where have I seen that before?

Kiro: I copy your techniques and make them better, Sagisō ;)

I think main thing was that Sagisō just had full control over the flow of the match the entire. Kiro was mostly countering whatever she did. Pretty sure I’ve said that before tho. Everything else Kyuu said is pretty much in point, but I might some add more stuff later.

Kiro: Look at you hiding in your own little server, afraid to face me. Anyways, I wasn’t referring to this technique I used. Obviously, I’d use something more advanced.

What Kiro did with those kunai wasn’t really trying to copy Sagisō tho. If he was, I’d have him do something a bit more special and noticeable for her lel

Raiku was a bit sad at the last thing Shiho said, though he tried to hide it on the outside.

"Sorry... we can talk about that after the fight though." The Uchiha turned his attention back into the matter at hand and began doing hand seals.

"Water Style: Black Rain Jutsu..." A small cloud began forming above the battlefield, however as stated by the name of the technique, the rain was not normal but instead flammable and black. Puddles began forming on the ground made up of this black rain as Raiku watched to see what his opponent would do.

"Hmph." Shiho let out after hearing Raiku put off the subject where he left her to fend for herself till after their fight concluded. Honestly speaking, Shiho didn't really care that much about what had happened in the past and wasn't one to hold a grudge. However, that doesn't mean she'll simply forgive someone who's wronged her. The young Hyuga intended to take this match as a way to pay the Uchiha back for leaving her behind during the exam's second stage.

Shiho observed Raiku as he pulled his first move, soon after the young man weaved his hand signs, black rain began falling from the sky from the dark clouds that were forming. Shiho quickly leaped backward before the black rain reached her. "I better stop him before this spread to the entire arena." Following her retreat, the young girl raised her palms up. "Eight Trigrams: Vacuum Palm!" She shouted before launching two chakra waves at Raiku by thrusting her palms out one after the other.
No comments on the opening move aside from Shiho must've expected Raiku to stand still so her attacks could disrupt him.
Raiku committed to his jutsu and extended the range of the cloud to reach Shiho once more. In addition, with a few short hand seals water began extending from his water, though the act was so subtle one would need dojutsu to notice it. With Shiho starting a counterattack, Raiku put his plan into motion.

"Water Style: Hiding in Water Jutsu."

Suddenly, Raiku disappeared, his body being turned into black water. Simply put, what had happened was the Uchiha connected the rain around the arena with himself using the water that had been extending from his hand. This allowed him to dodge his opponents attack, while at the same time moving at high speeds.

However, Raiku knew his opponent would quickly activate their Byakugan to detect him, so he sprung out from above Shiho with his Sharingan activated and sent out kunai at his opponent. To prevent them from simply being blocked however, he used his Sharingan to cast a genjutsu on the reflection off them. Athough its effects would be weak, the purpose of the genjutsu was simply to paralyze Shiho for a split moment in order for the kunai to actually reach her.
I thought this was a really creative use of hiding in water, my only criticism is that you say 'Hiding in Water' and then proceeded to use like 'Teleport anywhere'.

The explanation you gave isn't really sufficient for the feats performed—for example, how is Raiku teleporting between disconnected bodies of water—going from water on the ground, to what I'd assume is a raindrop in the air? And I'm assuming that in the two posts since he used black water it covered the whole arena already and that's why he could reach Shiho?

I'm also not sure how a kunai coming from above Shiho was going to cast a reflection that could see; the only part of the kunai that could hold a reflection would be the flats of the blade, which...she couldn't see if the kunai was coming at her. But I mean, it landed anyway so...eh?
Shiho continued to back away from the black rain, she had hoped that her attacks would have disrupted her opponent's early start. However, looking back to where Raiku once stood, the girl found that the boy had suddenly vanished. "Huh? Where did he go?" No longer having the location of her opponent available, the young Hyuga quickly shifted into a more defensive pose. That was when the Uchiha boy suddenly jumped out of the water and threw a Kunai at her.

Shiho was about to move out of the way when the surprise Genjutsu cast by Raiku reached her before she could react, freezing her in plance just enough for the Kunai to reach her. "Oh crap I can't move, even if I break out now I won't be able to stop that Kunai from hitting me." Panicked, the girl began searching for a way to avoid a grave wound at the very start of the match. Thinking back on all the techniques she was taught, the girl managed to remember one that would be of great use in this situation. "I got it, I don't know if I can pull it off but its worth trying."

As the Kunai reached Shiho, the girl was able to break out of the paralysis. Bringing her arm up, it appeared as if she was going to block the projectile with her arm and sacrifice it to avoid a more deadly injury. However, the girl had other plans. As soon as the blade made contact with the skin, Shiho sent out a wave of chakra at the point of impact and instantly blew the Kunai away, leaving behind only a shallow cut from what could have left a dangerous wound otherwise. "Phew, I'm glad that worked out." The girl internalized. Quick to retaliate, Shiho used her other hand to take out a pair to shuriken which she then launched at the airborne Uchiha.

Raiku realized Shiho was going to send a pair of shuriken to him as soon as she began moving her hand towards her pocket to take them out. Instead of trying to block or dodge the attack, he let Shiho continue while creating his own hand seals. When she sent the pair of shuriken out, he casted another genjutsu. From Shiho's point of view, the shuriken would reach Raiku and he would start falling while wounded. In reality, Shiho would hesitate and Raiku reaches the ground before the attack hits him. He then Body Flickers to Shiho and uses the acceleration of the jutsu in combination with coating his hand on fire to send an attack at the temple of the Hyuga's head.

Raiku's illusory deception worked once again against the young Hyuga girl. Thinking that she hit her mark, Shiho prepared her follow up attack when she soon realized she fell under another Genjutsu trick. Being mispositioned due to previous misdirection, Shiho was unprepared to react to Raiku's instant body flicker closing the distance between them. Shiho barely had enough time to focus her eyes on the approaching Uchiha, a wave of panic swept her mind as she prepared herself for the inevitable impact of Raiku's attack.

The young Hyuga stared intensely at her opponent's incoming fist when suddenly, it appeared as if her eyes became blank. Shiho's body began reacting on it own as her mind became empty of all thoughts. Quickly bending her knees and folding her whole body back, Shiho was able to narrowly avoid Raiku's flaming fist, only feeling a burning scratch scrape her forehead. Following her evasion move, the young girl spun her body around and aimed a leg sweep at the back of Raiku's knee with the aim of knocking him off balance. She would then quickly stand back up and deliver a palm strike directly into Raiku's chest, intending to stun him with one attack.

Raiku quickly realized that his attack wasn't going to connect when he saw the Hyuga's body beginning to bend. Instead of following through with his arm, he reached back and jumped over Shiho to behind her, avoiding the leg sweep which she performed after spinning. Then the Uchiha performed a spinning side kick once more surrounded in flames to the side of his opponent's body while she was still trying to perform her counterattack, carefully using his Sharingan to observe any movement that could lead to his attack missing again.

Seeing as her counterattack failed to connect, Shiho's body swiftly reacted to the change in a appropriate manner. Weaving some hand signs, Shiho quickly spun around while standing back up her legs to face her Uchiha opponent. Taking short quick steps to close the distance, Shiho minimized her movements in order to get to Raiku faster. The young Hyuga reached her arm out beside her to catch Raiku's flaming leg with her hand. While it appeared like a dumb move, it was all part of her plan. As the fire would have collided with the girl's hand, which would have left a nasty burn, a stream of water shot out from her palm. This was a Water Bowl Jutsu, the technique she had prepared with her prior hand signs.

Aiming to use the water to throw off Raiku's rhythm, Shiho sent a quick uppercut to the Uchiha's chin with her knuckles.
I dunno what happened to the Black Rain during the flame attacks...like did you forget about it or...?
As Shiho turned around Raiku noticed the water chakra in her palm and realized she had an attack prepared for him. He let her perform the jutsu but was prepared for it which stopped his opponent from throwing him off. Instead, he took out a kunai to prepare for a follow up attack and blocked the uppercut using his left hand while slashing at his opponent's arm using his right hand.
Basically, everyone was using UI/Sharingan to react here so not much I can say.
Noticing that her attack had not gone through as she had planned, Shiho's body began trying to come up with a solution in the very limited window of time before Raiku's Kunai stabs into her arm. Without many options left, Shiho unfolded her fist back into a palm which was now facing Raiku. Chakra began qucikly building up inside her palm before suddenly, a massive wave of chakra erupted towards Raiku. However, the technique appeared to have been imperfect as half the force of the attack instead imploded into the arm, sending the young Hyuga sliding back quite a distance and into the wall of the arena.

The sudden jolt of pain caused by her own attack seemed to have brough life back into Shiho's eyes as the young girl growned in pain while holding her arm. "Argh, what just happened?" Looking at her surrounding, a very confused Shiho attempted to piece together what had happened since she blacked out earlier.

Raiku noticed the large build up of chakra in Shiho's palm but it was already too late. The chakra energy attack hit the Uchiha from a very close distance causing him to be sent a few yards away and it was quite visible he had taken considerable damage. However half of the damage he would've taken was absorbed by Shiho's arm, causing her to also be injured. Raiku shakenly stood up and looked over at his opponent.

Damn it... of course getting close would be dangerous. Who knows what else the Hyuga can do with their amazing chakra control? That said... this fight isn't over. I need to attack while she's still recovering from her attack backfiring against her a bit.

Raiku began doing hand seals and summoned a Crow Clone of him. Then the two continued the hand seals and performed two jutsu, both elemental bullets except one was made out of fire and the other oil. The two techniques would combine and make for a dangerous attack heading towards Shiho's way.

Holding her aching arm, Shiho shook her head as she fully regained her consciousness. "What happened? I remember blacking out after seeing Raiku throw his punch at me and now I'm here." Scratching her head, the young Hyuga's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the incoming combo projectiles launched by Raiku and his clone. Clapping her hands together, Shiho first winced due to the pain in her arm but quickly began weaving hand signs. "Oh well, let's save that for later."

Taking in a deep Breath, Shiho shot out a stream of water from her mouth. "Water Release: Wild Water Wave!"

The two attacks collided with one another, the Wild Water Wave and Oil Flame Bullet. However, the added oils to the flames worked as Raiku had predicted, easily countering and vaporizing the incoming defense water jutsu. The Raiku which was adding the flames kept the jutsu up, coming closer to Shiho as her water was being boiled. Meanwhile, the other Raiku had begun performing other hand seals, and placed his hand on the ground summoning a crow.

"Ramer, I need your wind to help me out with these flames..."

The summon nodded and flew into the air, sending out large chakra enhanced gusts to the flame bullet Shiho was fighting against. The winds spread the flames to completely encase the Hyuga between the wall and the incoming attack, while also adding strength to the fire.

"Shiho, I wouldn't like to see you be burnt to a crisp here! Can you please surrender?" Raiku yelled from the other side of the flames.
Yea, since the black rain that's covering the arena, is never mentioned again, I'll assume you just forgot it was there, but the whole arena would've gone up in flames. Like, continuity-wise? Raiku super murdered Shiho, like worse than Taiyo to clone Asahi.
The stream of water collided with the combo fire, creating a large cloud of steam. Seeing how her attack was being overpowered, Shiho raised the power of her water wave in an attempt to at least slow down the inferno's advance. The young Hyuga aimed to keep the flames at bay while she tried to look for an opening to escape, however the addition of a sudden gust of wind messed up her hopes of that plan working out.

An anxious expression grew on the young Hyuga's face as the fire surrounded her. "Oh crap this is bad! What do I do?" From the other side of the flame, Shiho heard Raiku calling out to her, asking for her surrender. "Surrender? I don't want to lose this early on, there must be something I can do." As that rain of though ran through Shiho's head, the raging fire crackled in her face, causing her to break her jutsu and take a unbalanced step back. With that stride however, Shiho's eyes once again went blank, her body automatically beginning to weave another Wild Water Wave. Aiming at the ground, Shiho spat out a large quantity of water which quickly spread in a circle around her. The young girl quickly followed up by positioning one arm in front of her and the other behind her. "Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven!"

Shiho spun into a rotation, expelling chakra from every tenketsu on her body. The water she had produced around her was also picked up by this rotation, dousing the flames as they were repelled by the ultimate Hyuga defense technique. A thick fog of steam formed all around as Shiho spread the former inferno away from her. Once the danger of burning alive was gone, Shiho slowly came to a stop. She stumbled around clumsily, the rotation having sent her head into a daze. "Whoa what was that? I think I blacked out again." Shiho spoke to herself with slightly slurred words. Hopefully the obstructing fog in the are will hide the fact that the young Hyuga is currently in a rather compromised state.
Sips, yea, she'd be super-dead. Wind + Oil + more Oil + Fire would've vaporized most of the water immediately, you might've been better off with a normal rotation since water causes oil flames to flare up explosively.
Raiku stood with his summon Ramer next to him as they were training and were in the middle of a break. “Man, don’t you wonder what it’s like to be a human Ramer? I mean, I know I can transform into a crow but… well you don’t have hands so you can’t really do much besides wind jutsu.”

“What? Why would I want to stop being a bird? We’re awesome, I can fly and you can’t.”

“Well… whatever. All I’m saying is, maybe we could work even better if you understood my point of view.”

“Yeah, well that’s never going to happen. It’s not as if I can transfer my mind to your body or something.” Raiku paused for a moment and then looked at his summon.

“Hold on… a mind transfer technique… That’s actually possible Ramer! In fact, one of the clans of the Leaf, the Yamanaka are renowned for being able to do just that. It’s their signature hidden.”

Ramer looked shocked, while an idea began forming in Raiku’s head. Sure, Ramer couldn’t do jutsu to perform a mind transfer technique, but just maybe… something else could be arranged.

Raiku unsummoned Ramer and began making his way towards the Yamanaka’s Flower Shop. He remembered that he had a classmate from there from when he was still in the Academy.

Maybe she could help me…

Raiku eventually reached the shop and entered it. He noticed a girl around his age behind the counter and waved at her with a smile.

“Hey, Ino. It’s me, Raiku Uchiha from the Academy. How are you?”

The young Yamanaka girl was watering some plants behind the counter when she heard the door to her family run flower shop open. She expected it to be another usual customer that came every day or so, but it was Raiku Uchiha instead! The girl was quite shocked at first as she never expected the antisocial Uchiha to make time to come this flower shop? The girl did her best to hide cover her anxiousness and quickly tidied her hair to make herself look presentable to the boy.

She could only wonder why Raiku had come today. Was he here to get flowers? Who were they for? Another girl? His girlfriend?! Ino shook her head quickly to clear herself of those thoughts before she heard Raiku call out her name. Calming herself, Ino found the black eyes of the Uchiha as she returned a greeting.

“Oh, hey Raiku. I’m doing well. Taking care of the family business stuff, you know? How about you? Here to get some flowers?”

“I’m doing good as well. I’d love to buy some of your beautiful flowers. Of course, they’re not as beautiful as you are. Say, Ino, would you like to talk privately about something? I’m fine with waiting for you to finish working though.”

The girl would’ve fainted if she didn’t have a job after hearing the words come out of Raiku’s mouth. He called her beautiful and then said he wanted to talk to her privately. Did he like her? Was he going to ask her out?! In an attempt to keep up her calm composure, Ino went back to watering her plants as she responded. “Um, yeah, sure. I finish in like an half hour anyways. You can tell me now if you want though, since it’s just and me in here right now.”

"Well, in that case... Simply put: I have a favor to ask of you. The final exams are nearing soon, and I'd like to be better prepared for whatever obstacles come my way. I'd really appreciate it if you could graciously help me with a matter of... your expertise."

Raiku stopped and realized that this sounded like a business deal. As if he was asking her to assassinate someone for him.

Hold on... maybe I need to be more casual.

"Well, only if you want to, haha. It'd be nice to spend some time with you, though."

The girl blinked as it took her a few seconds to understand what Raiku was talking about. Her expertise? Besides her expert taste in boys, she was also a Yamanaka and had the special capability to utilize her clan’s hiden. That must’ve been what the boy was after, since Raiku didn’t seem like the type to directly ask a girl like her out. Or maybe not.

“Yeah, we haven’t talked much since our Academy days. Well, we didn’t really talk much then either...” the girl said with a nervous chuckle. “It would be nice to catch up while doing whatever it is you want. Though, if this about my clan’s hiden, then I’m gonna need something more...” Ino said like she was making a special deal with him as she leaned forward on the counter between them. This was her clan’s speciality, so it wasn’t like she could just give it a way because a boy asked her nicely.

Raiku gave a small chuckle back at her comment about during the Academy, which was true. However, the girl made it clear she would not be so easy to get help from regarding her clan's hiden. The Uchiha suspected as much though, deciding already he had to at least try.

As Ino leaned forward on the counter between them, Raiku decided to be bold and do the same. The boy's dark Uchiha eyes looking deep into the girl's blue Yamanaka ones. He had noted that she didn't completely decline his request, asking for something more...

"To be honest, you got me. I am asking for help about that... though if you want to catch up or if you need something more, I'm fine with doing so. I'll buy some flowers for you, at least, to show I'm serious about needing your help and giving you what you need."

If I wanted too... I could just use my Sharingan and make her help me using Genjutsu. After all, we're making such direct eye contact... but I'd rather not have to do that to someone from my village.

Needless to say, Ino didn’t expect Raiku to also follow her action. He was so close to her and she found herself gazing into his deep black eyes. She mentally cursed the Uchiha and their naturally good looks. Even if they all seemed to be lacking social skills, their attractiveness made up for it. Like the boy in front of her, for example. Backing up so she wouldn’t do something she’d regret, Ino let out a sigh.

“Fine. Buying flowers helps the family store, so you’re basically paying the clan in return for some of our secrets. You have a deal, Raiku.” Ino said that last part playfully as she put her right hand out for a handshake as if they were going to confirm a deal.

Raiku backed up as well in unison and listened as she agreed to help him out. When she extended her hand out for a handshake, the Uchiha did as well and finished the handshake with a grin on his face.

"I'll get some lavender flowers. Thank you, Ino. You said you're going to finish working in around half an hour right? I'll wait until then."

With that, Raiku took out his wallet and paid for the flowers he was purchasing. Of course, he wouldn't keep them, they were for Ino anyways.

"By the way, I didn't see you during the exams. What happened to you?" Raiku asked while looking around the shop, enjoying the other flowers.

The girl didn’t expect Raiku to wait for her to finish, but appreciated his company. Lavender flowers weren’t a bad choice either. Smiling, the girl took his money and completed the transaction as they talked.

“Thank you for the flowers. But yeah, I made it to the forest of death but ended up getting beat by some other ninja. Mom and Dad were disappointed, but they didn’t let me get to down. I’ll just pass for sure next time!”

Raiku turned and looked at Ino with a smile. “I’m sure you will. Just keep on practicing and you’ll be good enough to pass. By the way, how are Choji and Shikamaru doing?”

…Thirty minutes passed along with some idle chatter between the two and Ino finally finished working. She notified Raiku of this who was starting to get excited for the training that was about to happen. First, Ino demonstrated her basic techniques when they arrived at the training grounds. Raiku quickly learnt the basics, but actually applying them would end up taking the Uchiha a couple of weeks. Most of his training during this time was specifically on learning the basic mind transfer jutsu. Fortunately, Raiku has the Sharingan, which helped to streamline the process. Once Raiku finally managed to get the mind transfer technique to work against minimal resistance, it was then that he asked Ino the question that would reveal his true motives for learning this technique, attempting to combine it with his own idea for Ramer.

“Is there anyway for me to connect my mind with my summon’s?”

Ino looked at him for a moment thinking. After a short discussion, they reached the conclusion that it was indeed possible. Before parting ways with the girl he’d spent the past few weeks training with, Raiku asked her to gather information on the other participants as well. Having no reason to deny her boyfriend, Ino agreed. Raiku then spent the remaining time before the exams attempting to utilize the mind transfer technique to bring the idea he had for Ramer to life. It was quite the tedious process, but Raiku remained determined to make his goal a reality before the exams...

~~~~~The Battle~~~~~
Raiku had been formulating a plan for if Shiho declined his request to her surrender and watched the Hyuga's next moves. He took notice of her beginning to perform another water technique and expected it to continue being overpowered by the flames. Instead, to the Uchiha's surprise, Shiho performed a version of the Eight Trigrams which provided a rotation mixed with the water that doused the incoming flame attacks.
Raiku quickly called Ramer back and used the Tiger hand seal. He used the Beast Human Clone technique to transform his summon into a clone of himself.
"Ramer, me, get close to Shiho. When she finishes her rotation restrain her so I can perform a technique."
The Uchiha expected his opponent to be shaken up by performing one of the Hyuga's more advanced techniques as she had done to him prior with the Mountain Crusher. He pointed towards Shiho so his allies would know who she was, which Raiku himself was able to figure out due to being used to seeing within fogs of steams to locate his enemies, something he often had to do with his boil release form of Hiding in the Mist.
The two swiftly reached Shiho as soon as she finished her technique and grabbed a hold of her to make her still and stop stumbling around. Raiku then moved his hands out and formed a circle, and casted the Mind Body Switch technique. He had expected his opponent to be fatigued after the recent chain of events and wanted to take advantage of this to say from Shiho's body that she was surrendering.
Shiho slowly regained her footing, slapping the sides of her head to restabilize herself. "Whoa, I'm still not sure what's been happening but it seems it gets me out of tricky situations." She thought to herself. Suddenly, Raiku and his clone went on the offensive, flanking her from two sides. Being unprepared, Shiho fell prey to the clone's grapple. "Darn. I left myself open."
Many thoughts quickly ran through her head as she tried to think of a way to get out of this situation. Shiho's eyes glowed bright when an idea came to her mind. "I got it! One Body Blow!" Focusing her chakra on her back tenketsu, Shiho shot out a burst of chakra behind her directly into the clone's chest. However, before the young Hyuga even got the chance to catch her beath, she herself losing the control of her own body. She felt herself no longer being able to move, the world faded to black but not in the same way as before. Shiho became prisoner in her body as Raiku hit her with a Mind Transfer justu. "Huh? What's going on?"
After Raiku successfully took over Shiho's body, he intended to let the body be knocked out using Ramer in order to gain the victory. His summon went over to the Hyuga's vulnerable body and sent a chop to her neck with Raiku releasing the jutsu barely a moment before he would also be knocked out, as their minds were connected.
As Raiku entered his own body again, he watched as the Ramer clone of him caused Shiho to fall to the ground and lose consciousness. After the referee took notice of it, he declared the fight, "Shiho Hyuga is unable to continue, Raiku Uchiha wins!"
The crowd responded with loud applause and disappointment depending on which of the battlers they were rooting for, mostly due to favoritism of one clan or the other. Raiku himself smiled and looked up, finding his family members and mentor using his Sharingan and waving at them.
"Nice job kid," Shisui said, though obviously his student wouldn't be able to hear him.
"I'm so proud of him," Akari cried, while Senshu was nodding while thinking of the fact that his son had to use a technique of another clan to win.
Overall this was a pretty short fight and Shiho probably would've died multiple times, Raiku had some good offensive presence even though I don't think some of his opening moves would work as portrayed. He did get to show up a number of jutsu and to good effect, so he's got that going for him. He'd need more review to really earn chunin imo, but he's well on his way. Would like to see more attention to the environment, esp if he's the one that changed it.
Shiho...uh, very passive, landed one hit—one that was not only self-damaging but put her in a worse position for the fight. Shows competence in one basic water release, vacuum palm, and...not much else, seeing as all her other jutsu backfired on her in one way or the other. I'd still call the rotation impressive since she shouldn't even know it, but other than that she just barely holds off Raiku's attacks and loses in...like 5 moves. Def want to see an effort to show Shiho is a competent fighter who can hold her own without her jutsu backfiring on her.
Neat. So based on the likes I've gotten the people who are actually keeping up aren't in the escort squad. It's been three weeks, long enough for anyone to react so I think I'll call this a wrap. Since no one's interested then the arc is over u.u
We can discuss the details of what would've happened during the arc.
So here's a proposal. We're going to kill the wandering ninja clan here on the beach and then someone from the escort group can write the post doing mission completion. I think the overall low levels of commitment deserve a mission failure, but that's just me. In any case, this arc will wrap up this weekend which is frankly as far as I'm willing to go.
Sound good?
So is the mission retconned? Do we fail? Whichever option we go with, if the story continues I'll be fine with it.
We're going to take down the enemies attacking us and then call the mission a wrap.
Continuations of the story will be done in small groups who have arcs planned since large groups tend to cause the RP to slow to a crawl—see the still ongoing exams for a prime example. I might suggest hitting someone up and asking them if they want to plan an arc together.
I don't really want to spend months of time stuck in the Land of Snow, so I don't think I'll be participating in that, but for smaller, more concise arcs I'm always up for them. I do remember Hisato's pirate mission, do you have an in-RP date in mind for that to happen?
Is there really any time to plan with the hand we were dealt in the RP?
Being able to improvise and coordinate is a valuable skill. You really just need one of the characters to take charge and start making calls, even if that call is to retreat and re-group so you can make an actual plan. Another option would be to use signals or simple calls that allow basic coordination without giving away everything to the enemy.
E.g. you could have a character shout out for a certain number of people to engage, while the others defend the convo or get them to safety.
You hardly need a detailed multi-step plan of any kind.
