Yellow Rock Isle, Whirl Archipelago
Johto Region

“Looks like you’re with me, kiddo!” Esther bounced over to Gene and threw her arms into a wide, trapping hug. She kept it short and sweet; a quick reassuring squeeze and then she backed off and gave the girl room to breathe. After Gene’s quick smothering, it was Desmond’s turn—though not for a smothering. “Okay Desmo, let’s get going!” Esther looked right, looked left, and then picked a wide road that looked like it could be a main. The Oblivian navigated by fancy, she turned down whatever street or alley looked like it would take them closer to the towering mountain. In spite of her whimsical navigation, they were on the city outskirts after just a few minutes. A few minutes more and they had reached a clearing that Esther figured was scenic enough for her purposes: plenty of leafage, with flowering buds here and there, and a large smooth rock that'd make a perfect seat.

Of course, Esther picked the obvious perch, squeezed her legs together as any proper lady should, and fluttered her lashes.

“Try to get my good side, 'kay?”

Actually, on second thought her pokemon should be in frame too. Esther quickly released her team and quickly arranged positions: Pyrrha in her lap, Paris on her head, L' Basseau on her shoulder, and Halay at her side.

"Okay, now I'm ready."

These would go to her family, the next set of pictures would include Gene and those would go to Reina.

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto. Reina, current rank, 35,219

"Aqua Step!"

The Quaquaval launched into the air, his right leg becoming involved in water as he did a three sixty spin and then brought down his leg towards Peque. But, Reina was ready, having her Pokemon using Protect. The impact caused splashes of water to land on the audience, who were more than delighted to be part of the match.

"Fight back, Ice Punch!"

The invisible barrier popped, sending the dancing duck back while Peque rushed after him with his fist covered in ice.

"Mega Kick!"

Quaquaval landed on his left foot and with his right foot aimed a kick that connected with Peque's punch. Both Pokemon held their ground, neither moving back an inch from the impact of their attacks colliding.

"Water Pulse, Peque!"

The Swampert created a water sphere with his left hand, shooting it directly at his opponent's face. Although the attack hit, the damage wasn't much, just making Quaquaval stumble back a few steps.

"Earthquake!" Reina called out, seeing the opportunity.

"Endure it!" Martin called out with a smirk on his face.

The dancing water type gritted his teeth as the ground under him shook, courtesy of Peque slamming his front fists on the ground. When the shaking stopped, Quaquaval looked up with the same smirk as his trainer, "Counter!"

An orange energy covered Quaquaval's body and shot out of him, slamming into Peque and knocking him down on his back. Reina and Peque were both taken back by the attack, giving Martin the chance to attack again. "Aqua Step!"

The dancing Pokemon jumping gracefully into the air again, this time doing a front flip as his right foot became covered in water. The duck went straight down towards Peque's exposed belly.

Out of instinct, Reina called out the only move she could think up of the moment, "Mud Shot!".

Peque opened his mouth and shot out a volley of mud balls, hitting the Quaquaval straight in the face as his foot slammed into the Swampert. The duck stood on one foot on Peque's stomach while Peque just looked up at his opponent. Quaquaval jumped off, landing a few feet away and falling to one knee. On the other side, Peque rolled over and began to stand up, his body shaking after taking such a direct hit.

Reina could feel her Pokemon was at his limit, but it seemed Martin's was also. Both trainers seemed to understand the situation, as they prepared their final move. While at the same time, Quaquaval became covered in a whirlpool of water, activating his Torrent ability. Same with Peque, he stood on his two legs as water began swirling around his body.

"Let's end this, Aqua Step!" Martin shouted while Reina following up with, "Water Pulse!"

Quaquaval shot ahead, again his foot covered in water, this time no fancy movements, his eyes were set directly on his opponent. Peque charged a big watery sphere with both his hands above his head. Just before Quaquaval could make an impact, Peque threw the Water Pulse as hard as he could causing both attacks to explode upon impact. Water sprayed all over the area, making a small downpour on the crowd. Even Reina and Martin had to look away.

Once the attention returned to the battle, Peque was standing still, with Quaquaval's foot just centimeters from his face. The duck had a smile on his face, before falling on his back unconscious. Peque let out a loud sigh of relief as the water around his body disappeared. The crowd began to clap and cheer as Rotom Drone announced Swampert as the winner.

Reina wiped the water from her face as she smiled and walked over to hug her Swampert. "Now it looks like I fell into the ocean." She smiled as she returned the Pokemon back into his Pokeball. "Great battle Martin!"

The trainer returned his Quaquaval, whispering words of confidence to the Pokeball before putting it away. "Yeah that was really good, I think anyone of us could have won that, guess you got lucky this time."

As Reina shook Martin's hand, she noticed people in the crowd raising their hands, "So I guess I'm King of the Hill now?"

Martin smiled and nodded, "Good luck!"

Reina looked around and chose a random trainer, grabbing Blue Demon's Pokeball, "Rank or unranked? I'm fine either way!" She took her spot on the battlefield and prepared to enter into her next combat.

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto, Eveline

After riding the cable car with everyone else to Yellow Rock Isle, Eveline stretched as she followed along with the others. Reina decided to go off on her own though... that girl sure was a free spirit. Eveline did want to distance herself from the others though, for various reasons. She was sure that Esther didn't need her help right that second, so she took the opportunity to excuse herself and give herself a little more room to breathe... also so she could get a smoke in on the side.

"Alright, I think I'll keep an eye on Reina... don't want her getting too distracted now, right? Otherwise we won't have a place to sleep tonight."

She gave a small wave before walking off towards the general direction Reina went, making sure she wouldn't be followed by anyone else. After walking around for about 10-15 minutes, she pulled out a lighter and a cigarette, and placing it on her lips lightly as she looked out in the distance... she was just kidding when she said she needed to keep an eye on Reina, but seriously? Was she starting a mosh pit or something? Groaning, she quickly put the cig away... she hadn't actually used it yet, so she could probably save it. She made her way over to the small crowd, watching Reina just taking out a bunch of random trainers with reckless abandon... she had to make sure the girl was actually being responsible.

"HEY! HAPPY CHICK! Don't get too carried away, we still have other crap to do!"

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto, Genevieve

Now that they were on Yellow Rock, Geneieve looked as Reina just decided to leave and leave her with Esther. Somehow she felt less safe with Esther being her boss than Reina. After an affection overload, Sticky Fingers peeked his head around as they took in their surroundings. There was a good amount of walking as Esther insisted that she got many pictures taken of herself and her Pokémon. Genevieve was even forced into quite a few pictures, along with Sam and Sticky Fingers obviously. Sam was very photogenic, Gene didn't really care, and Sticky Fingers just thought "the hell's a camera?"

Montagne Khastil - Unranked - June 19th - Geosenge Town, Kalos

Surely Reflection Cave didn't spit them out into the hills above Geosenge Town? Monty remembered passing through the little village once when he was a young kid, well before Team Flare's uprising, and back then it was more of a loose collection of buildings than a proper Town. The Geosenge he found himself looking down at now, though?

"Come one, come all! Our next tour is starting in fiiiiiiive minutes!"
"Daddy, I WANT TO SEE THE CRATER!"
"Oh please can we visit a stone shop, dear? You haven't gotten me a present in days!"

It was raucous, bustling with people, and street vendor smoke congealed in wispy, aromatic clouds overhead. If Monty didn't know any better, he'd say it was Lumiose City, only the stone wall-like buildings were swapped with tall trees and taller hills.

"Stay close, Oracle," he said to his partner, who didn't need to be told twice. She kept her red eyes on a swivel, indiscriminately glaring at the throng of people around her, and the ones who met her gaze gave them a wide berth. The streets in Geosenge were tighter than Lumiose, and what would be regular traffic on Estival Avenue had become a claustrophobic sea of heads, and Monty practically had to consult the stars to navigate through it to the Pokemon Center.

"Ugh, move!" Monty barked as he pushed his way through the crowd into the red-roofed, luxuriously air-conditioned building. Oracle shook her ruffled coat, and her partner figured the summer heat combined with the sheer number of people couldn't be good for her. Maybe the Poke-Mart would have something to cool her down when they left.

"Welcome," called Nurse Joy from behind the counter. "How can we help you today?" Monty eyed the pink-haired woman with confusion. Didn't she work at the North Boulevard Center? And come to think of it, the nurse in Coumarine looked the same, too.

"Uhhh," the criminal said, still focused on her apparent teleportation abilities. "We...uhhh...just got into town, from Reflection Cave. Oracle here-" The Absol was sat on her hindquarters, the cool-air-induced bliss evident in her expression. "-is due for a checkup." In a routine which Monty had grown quite accustomed to, Nurse Joy called for an assistant, this one as rotund as the rest but with pink feathers and a strange beak, to take Oracle to the back while she spoke with him.

"Thanks, Nurse Aromatisse," she said cheerfully before turning back to Monty, who was still dumbfounded by her appearance.

"Do you...uh..." How the hell was he supposed to ask?

"No, I don't work at every Pokemon Center," Nurse Joy answered. Apparently his expression spoke more than his words. "My sisters and I get that question a lot, but I guess we shouldn't be surprised."

That took care of that conundrum. The criminal still had questions, though, and they had plenty of time while Oracle got healed up. "Why's Geosenge so busy?" He asked, leaning on the counter with his forearms.

"Oh!" Nurse Joy seemed surprised. "Is it your first time to Geosenge Town? Our summers turned into a busy tourist season several years ago, when-"

"When Team Flare got wiped out, right?" It was common Kalosian knowledge that Team Flare was defeated in Geosenge Town ten years ago, when some cataclysmic weapon malfunctioned and destroyed their base and half the Town in the process.

"That's right," the pink-haired nurse confirmed, though she didn't sound happy about it. Regretful, maybe? "Before that, we were known for our rare stones. The Stone Emporium in Lumiose sources their inventory from here, y'know!" She pressed her hands on the counter as she settled into a rant. "But then it came out that Lysandre was using Geosenge for his base, and what does he go and do? Blows it up!"

Monty threw a couple mhm's and yeah's in, but with the mystery of the teleporting nurse long since solved he was quickly losing interest in the conversation. What was taking Oracle so long? "Now all we're known for is the crater to the north!" Nurse Joy finished in a huff, crossing her arms for the dramatic finish.

"And people care about Team Flare?" The criminal asked skeptically. The name was feared in the criminal underworld for several years, but by the time Interpol cleaned up their remnants they were mostly a joke. "Tourists do, at least," the nurse replied, "And the rest of the Town has really leaned into it. They make more during the summer than the rest of the year combined, these days."

Nurse Aromatisse popped back out from behind the door with a chirp, Oracle right behind her with a refreshed vitality in her red eyes. "Don't let me keep you, too long," Nurse Joy said as the Absol returned to her partner's side. "Please see us again, and do be careful if you're looking to train on Route 10, the Pokemon get stirred up this time of year from the influx of trainers."

Monty thanked her for the advice, and as he and Oracle took back to the crowded street he said, "Now let's find some grub."

With roles more or less decided, and it seemed they were watching over the kid again. So long as he didn't wander off aimlessly, he was fine enough with that, and soon enough they would depart as Esther seemed to find the main road and despite being a bit too cheerful on the route with her whimsical whistling, they had made good time and arrived to the city outskirts and indeed found a clearing that had been ideal for good shots closer to the mountain.

"So you imply there is a bad side then." Desmond mused with dry sarcasm, but had began to set up his tripod and camera from his bag as he got in position just as Esther had, but that could not have been enough could it? No Desmond had gone a whole 10 minutes or so without a freak out so Esther decided to fix that as she suddenly released multiple Pokemon she had owned all at once which caused Desmond to jump back.

"Agh! D-damn it give a guy a warning..." Desmond cursed to himself, but he had his camera set up, but none the less he settled his head and began to snap some pics for Esther; he'd make sure to get multiple sets, a reel for himself, and others for Esther and company to keep so everyone had pictures to share.

“Perish the thought,” Esther scoffed with mock offense but continued with a self-satisfied preen. “I’m a darling from every angle~”

With all the teasing temporarily expunged from her system, Esther settled down and allowed Desmond to work his magic without further disruption. The time flew by and before she even knew it, the photo shoot was over. Once the pictures had been transferred Esther took a few moments to send them off to their respective destinations and attached a small note for her mom.

“Thanks, Ésmondo. I doubt the others are finished on their end, so it looks like we’ve got some free time.”

In spite of Desmond’s apparent discomfort with pokémon, Esther decided hers would remain outside their pokéballs; though, she did wave them over to her side, and then she herself kept a respectable distance from the flighty photography.

"Up for some exploration?"

"Cross Chop!"

Blue Demon slammed his crossed forearms against the Gurdurr, sending the fighting Pokemon flying and landing on his back.

"Bzzt-Reina wins-Bzzt!"

Reina pumped her right fist into the air, a big smile on her while Blue Demon sat on the ground to catch his breath. "That's three matches in a row! Blue Demon, take a break, you did more than enough." She raised the Pokeball and returned her Hawlucha back, before walking over and shaking her opponent's hand, "Great match!"

Just as Reina was getting ready to choose her next opponent, she heard Eveline's voice. "Oh hi! It's fine, I found the Inn, we can book the rooms later. Besides I'm on a winning streak here! Okay who's next?"

Desmond worked to place his own personal photos, both with Esther in frame and some pics of the mountain area with her out of frame, into his own photo collage as he placed them in new spaces of the photo book before he set it back in the bag and put his equipment away for the time being.

"And you just seem so humble about this flattering aspect." Desmond mused again with that bit of sarcasm, and Esther seemed to keep her party out which he of course had not been thrilled by but Esther had kept her Pokemon closer to her which he appreciated.

"Hum, suppose that could be a good way to kill time." Desmond admitted, as they seemed to finish ahead of schedule and taking a walk could provide chances for him to get more good pics of other areas around this area, so he had all the reason to support it.

"Poli!"

"Tune!"

As if on cue, Desmond's own Pokemon seemed to release themselves form their Pokeballs as Politoed and Kricketune came out and Desmond had to jump back a bit as he grit his teeth before a sigh of frustration had followed.

"Again. Warning, it's all I ask." Desmond mused as Politoed and Kricketune seemed happy to be part of this little trip all the same, so it had been an exercise in futility.

~Aldon...~

Aldon turned to hear and see Esther release all her pokémon from their pokéballs. It seemed like quite the assortment. Seeing Desmond's surprised reaction to it was somewhat humorous. Without any warning, poor Desmond.

A bronzor, a magnemite, a golett, a sigilyph and a baltoy all came out, joining Skol. The pokémon made all sorts of bewildering sounds ranging from machine buzzing that came from magnemite to the clanking sounds coming from golett all the way to the strange humming noises that came from sigilyph. Bronzor gave of a vibration sound as it moved around and Baltoy made a whirring sound as it spun around in place. Slowpoke relatively stood out compared to Aldon's other pokémon.

"Say cheese" Aldon said.

"Slo...!" Skol cheered, facing the wrong direction.

Pokemon Team: Chu the Pichu, Mudster the Swampert, Iwa the Wishiwashi, Ludwig the Ludicolo, Aero the Aerodactyl, Brute Tooth the Barraskewda

Interactions: Esther (kyuukestu), Savannah (Grand Master Koop)
Mentions: N/A

Having gotten off at Megi City was interesting. While they were just passing through, Naka did get off the cable car for a moment to find some Corsola to take DNA samples of. After some gentle coaxing, she managed to get some rather patient Corsola that won't immediately use Bubble Beam, Earth Power, or Power Gem on her. Once she got her samples and a necklace of Corsola antlers (a bit macabre, but oh well), she got back on the cable car to head to Ogi City.

In Ogi City, she heard a girl she hadn't been introduced to before saying if Esther needed anything, she could help. Esther had decided to be the de-facto leader again and called out what needed to happen. Renting some gear? Naka raised her hand, grinning. "On it with the gear!" She looked at Savannah, waving her arm for her to follow. "Come on. I have one stop before we rent some gear to grab a better backpack, and then we can rent our gear." She then ran off, heading towards not only the renter's shop, but also the mailing office that had her new gear waiting for her.

In the mailing office, she opened her box that was shipped by plane to Olivine City, then by bird Pokemon to this post office. It wasn't too big, and it had her new backpack she had her father order for her. Same day delivery was nice. Maybe a bit hectic with how they got it here though. After unpacking it and putting everything in her new waterproof backpack that felt even heavier now (why?) because it had not only a plastic but thin sheet of metal casing in some points, she rolled up her old backpack and clipped it to the bottom of her new backpack with her bedroll.

Now it was time to rent some gear.

She went over to the water gear renter's shop just down the street and began counting how many there were. Uh... Uh oh... How many were there? She just met them, too. Desmond, Aldon, Esther, maybe Gene?, that girl with Gene (probably Reina if she were to use context clues), Eveline, and this other girl she saw but didn't know the name of? She joined the group before they had left. Was that all? She looked back at Savannah, hoping she had followed because she was going to look like a fool just staring at her fingers while talking to literally nobody who was behind her. "Hey uh... Dunno your name, but you're one of the group I think. How many are there? I'm counting eight, including myself. I'm Nakano Saito, by the way."

Watching: Ron Towers and Luz the Espeon (Hecotoro), Ozzy the Deino (IDKWhatUserNameToDo)

Naka grinned. The Piplup did not listen to Gwen. Even if it was a smart move, time to punish. "Fluffy, you know what to do!" She grinned, maybe a bit too giddily coming from the sadism of the moment. It wasn't every day she got to beat down a prideful Pokemon. "Cobalt, you could have won if you had listened to your partner."

Fluffy's body shone with a white light, and he zoomed much faster than when he had used Tackle. His Quick Attack - a battle-ready move - shot forward, his body having crouched down enough avoid the popping bubbles and fire that popped above him. He then found himself in front of the Piplup, a serious face full of disappointment as he made his attempt to smash into him with no mercy.

Savannah

Savannah watched on as the group began breaking into a few smaller groups, each going off to do their respective tasks. However, this left the young woman a bit lost as she wasn't told where she should be going now. Luckily, another person of the group stepping in as a lead for the wild woman to follow. "Hmm? Ok." Savannah replied, seeing the other woman motioning for her to follow.

Savannah followed behind Naka as the other woman first went to collect a package, a new backpack. While Naka took care of her business, Savannah was busy marveling at the constant activity that went on inside the mailing office. She watched as many people moved in an out of the building, carrying letters and packages with them as they went. She didn't really understand what this was all about, but the sight was certainly new and interesting. "Whoa, there sure are a lot of paper being passed around in here." She commented.

Finally, the pair had made it to the location where Esther had asked them to rent the gear from. Savannah was planning to wait for Naka to do the complicated stuff and help out where she can. However, the other woman turned to her and asked her a rather odd question. "Huh? Well, I am called Savannah." She first answered the part about her name. "How many of what? Do you mean us?" She pressed. "If you do then... Um... There's Miss Essy, me, you, that girl with the smaller girl, that guy who carries around a weird box everywhere, Um..." Savannah began recalling everyone she had seen with them in the group, bending her fingers down with each count. Finally, she counted the total on her fingers. "That's 9 I think. Yeah I remember seeing 9 different people show up in our pack. But I haven't seen one of them in a while so I don't know if he's still with us." The young woman replied.

Eleonor
July 25th – Golden Lake, Johto Region

“And that’s a wrap folks! Please congratulate this year’s Seaking Catching Champion Eleonor Evelyn Mae–uh, Mail?– er, Mayle..?”

“Just Ellen,”

cough Right... Then please congratulate ‘Just Ellen’ for her victory! As per tradition we present the victory with a year’s supply of chocolate and a prize pool of—”

Eleonor rolled her eyes and silently urged the announcer onward. A year’s supply of choco-whatever, it wouldn’t last with Cordelia around. Two months. Tops. And money? Transient and Materialistic! It wasn’t why she’d entered the competition. Her goal was the last prize!

“—and the coveted Fisher King’s Crown!”

At that Ellen’s eyes sparkled and she stepped forward to graciously took a knee to accept her crown. This was the real prize. The most coveted prize in all of Johto, a crown that would stir envy and awe in even the region’s Champion. After all, not even the Dragon Master Lance wore a crown as bold as the Fisher King. Truly, the Fisher King’s Crown needed no introduction, in fact, it introduced itself. Embroidered on the front in bold font:

“Women Fear me,
Fish fear me,
Men turn their eyes away from me as I walk,
No beast dare makes a sound in my presence,
I am alone on this barren earth.”

Eleonor quietly pumped her fist, ‘Awww yea, a trucker hat!’

"Whaddya mean, 'No rooms available'?"
"I'm sorry, sir, but we're booked up for the next week," the Hotel Marine Snow receptionist apologized, though it seemed less genuine and more like a bored rehearsed response. It pissed Monty off, and he fixed the man behind the desk with an Oracle-rivaling glare as he demanded, "So where the hell are we supposed to sleep?!"

The receptionist gave a serpentine smile and suggested trying the Poke Mart for camping supplies. "Route 10's beautiful this time of year," he commented slyly, and Monty scoffed as he retorted, "Beautiful and swarming with wild Pokemon, eh?"

"Is there anything else I can help you with, sir?" The receptionist seemed to delight in irritating Monty, whose face was growing redder and redder with every passing second that he didn't have a room secured, and the criminal left him with a few choice explatives on the way out.

"Fuck that guy!" He exclaimed to Oracle as the weaved their way through the bustling tourists, and the Absol nodded her head in agreement. Camping...Monty would almost rather make a scene at the bar and spend the night in the drunk tank than sleep in the wild, where anyone and anything could sneak up on him. The thought made his skin crawl, but at least Oracle's presence would let him sleep with one eye open instead of not at all.

He'd brought a sturdy black leather backpack along for his laying-low trip, and he stocked it well at the Poke Mart with food, water, and the various medicines the attendant advised him on. He picked up a comfortable-looking sleeping bag and some fire-starting supplies, too, along with a collapsable cooking pot which didn't take up much room in the backpack and a short fold-out knife at the attendant recommendation.

Monty realized that all the recommendations weren't out of the goodness of the attendant's heart, though, but clearly out of an effort to gouge him for as much money as possible! The small mountain of goods ran him for all the money he'd won in Michel's poker game and then some, and by the time it was paid for he hardly had any left for a hotel stay if every tourist left Geosenge that minute.

"This trainer shit's expensive," he complained to Oracle as he hefted his burdened backpack, and she shot him a look that said she didn't care. And why would she care about him handing over the paper the old man had given him? Was useless Monty really that attached to it? It's not like he'd been eating it this whole time, and he'd traded it for things they (and more importantly she) could it, so why was he so sorry to part ways with it?

Rick
Tuesday, June 14th - Relic Castle, Unova

Staring at the Volcarona that was now flying high in circles, Rick heard Iris neighing from the bottom of the room, lying down under the bridge, probably hurt from the fall that she most certainly didn't see coming. "Go help her. I'll get the Meteonite." Rick said to Zephir. The cat nodded and started leaping down the many balconies towards Iris, while Rick rushed to the bridge. The Volcarona started spinning, spreading several fireballs into the air that showered across the room. Zephir avoided the fireballs for the most part, save for one that hit right behind him and flip him over on his head into a sit position, fortunately towards the bridge, where he would be in relative safety from another airstrike like this. He shook his head and walked towards Iris, putting his paws on her injured leg as he used Refresh.

Meanwhile, the Volcarona turned its attention towards Rick, who was running across the bridge to try and get the rock. He leaped forward to avoid the flamethrower launched at him. However, he was then forced to roll to the side and off the bridge to avoid a second one. Fortunately, he hanged on to the edge, although now he was in a terrible position. Seeing this, Iris fired off Swift projectiles that homed in at the Volcarona. While she didn't expect those to do any harm, she did hope to at least divert its attention off her trainer. Upon getting struck on the back by the projectiles, the Volcarona flew backwards to briefly stare at the two pokemon down at the floor. It then somersaulted while cloaking in flames and darted at them. Iris pointed her horn and fired a Hyper Beam, which the Volcarona dodged. Zephir then turned and charged at the Volcarona, clashing with it with a Giga Impact. This stoped the Volcarona in its tracks, but Zephir was shoved against Iris.

The Volcarona followed up with a flamethrower. Iris grabed Zephir by his nape and jumped up to the bridge. She then droped him next to her to grab Rick by the collar and pull him up. "Thanks!" Rick said, before pointing at the Meteonite. "You go grab it!" He told her. As the Volcarona rised up, Iris ran towards the Meteonite. Seeing this, the moth rushed towards the Meteonite, scooping it up first. Iris leaped forward and nabbed the Volcarona by a wing, pulling it down. Once on the floor, she jumped onto the Volcarona, pinning its wings with her hooves and taking the Meteonite off the moth's little feet, her flames flaring up as soon as she grabbed the rock. Rick was peeking from the bridge. "Damn, I've never seen her flames like that, even during an Overheat." He muttered, before Iris jumped back to the bridge. "Girl, tone down those flames, please!" He shouted, covering his face with an arm.

Suddenly, the Volcarona burst out from below the bridge, smashing at Iris on her chest and knocking her on her back, as well as knocking the Meteonite out of her mouth. Rick sighed. "You're really persistent, aren't you." He said. The Volcarona stared at the group before grabbing the Meteonite again, putting it back in its pedestal before rising high into the air. Then, with a high pitch cry, its body burst out in bright flames as it started releasing massive heat waves and spreading flames all across the room with each flap of its wings. Meanwhile, the temperature of the room started increasing exponentially, and it became hard to breathe. Rick gritted teeth. "Everyone, stay close and hold up Protect for as long as you can." Rick said to his pokemon. The two raised a protective dome, and now they could only hope the shield would hold long enough for the Volcarona to cease the attack.

Montagne Khastil - Unranked - June 19 - Route 10, Kalos

Maybe the hotel being fully booked was a blessing in disguise. He was supposed to be laying low in case Interpol came snooping around, so it wouldn't do him any good to be around such a high volume of people, anyway. Then again, maybe he was just trying to convince himself that sleeping on the ground wouldn't be as bad as he imagined. At least they still had plenty of daylight until that time came.

Still, it was inconvenient for Geosenge to be closed off for his base of operations. He'd chosen Southwestern Kalos for its seclusion, yeah, but it was also home to a few Pokemon that caught his eye when researching potential partners for Oracle. The criminal anticipated an extended stay, but now he'd have to keep well away from the town.

Then there was the issue of actually finding his prospects. He didn't know the first thing about tracking Pokemon! Oracle had basically fallen into his lap, but he had a feeling it would be a little harder than that to check off the shortlist he'd drafted up.

Once they were a good few minutes out of town, Monty sat on a conveniently chair-height rock and took a swig from one of the water bottles he'd purchased. The cool water was as refreshing as he could hope for in the hot summer sun, and he beckoned Oracle forward to offer her some.

"Use your horn and slice it here," he directed, motioning halfway down the disposable plastic bottle, "And watch the fingers!" The Absol rolled her red eyes before delicately slicing the bottle, and Monty let out his held breath as he set the bottle down for her to lap from.

"While you're doing that...," he thought aloud as he pulled out his phone, navigating to his notes app that held his prospect list.

<< Eevee - Lots of possible evolutions - Easy to fit into roles >>
<< Electrike - Strong Ranged Attacks - FAST >>
<< Houndour - Strong Ranged Attacks - FAST - GOOD TEAMWORK! >>

The list was self explanatory, with most of the information gathered from the PokeDex's search function. These three Pokemon were the most likely to synergize with Oracle based on his research, and Monty was confident in his partner's ability to beat them if it came down to it.

He relayed the plan to Oracle, though she wasn't keen on picking up new teammates. Was he implying that she wasn't strong enough on her own?! She made her displeasure known with a glare and a healthy dose of Pressure, and when Monty felt the all-too-familiar weight he barked, "Listen, I don't know what your problem is, but we're here to do you a favor! You don't want to have to fight every battle, do you?"

Oracle seemed to consider her trainer's words as she alleviated her Pressure. She supposed it could be inconvenient to have to fight an opponent she was poorly suited to. Better to let some other whelp take the damage for her. The Absol turned her nose up at him as she deactivated her ability, begrudgingly agreeing that having teammates could be useful.

"Great, thanks, your Highness," Monty said sarcastically. His partner was strong, and she hadn't had many close calls in their training up until now, but clearly it had stoked a royal ego. "As long as we're on the same page, let's get started."

Desmond sighed, but given the number of Pokémon that had been out now, and that he had now gotten over the shock of things he saw a chance to get some good photos on top of the ones he had already taken of Aldon, Skol and Esther with the mountain as a backdrop.

"For the record, are your Pokemon open for some snap photography?" Desmond asked Esther, with a camera strapped around his neck as he always had a policy to ask for permission before he randomly took pics of Pokemon that he had not owned. During this, Politoed and Kricketune seemed to join Esther's Pokemon and Skol as the former seemed to happily clap and greet them while Kricketune seemed to use its appendages to produce a sweet little sound as it greeted the Pokemon.

Desmond glanced over to Aldon as he noticed Skol seemed to face the opposite direction in the initial pictures. "Uh, I should let you know your partner seemed to look the opposite way of the lens." Desmond replied to Aldon.

As it turned out, Nurse Joy's warning about the wild Pokemon being riled up was warranted. Monty and Oracle had hardly been walking five minutes when they were attacked by some sort of freaky flying black-and-green Pokemon, a Sigilyph according to the PokeDex, and though Oracle beat it back fairly easily with Sucker Punch and Night Slash it was only a primer for Route 10 as a whole.

Monty weaved around an arrangement of tall boulders, doing his best to avoid the flurry of Shadow Balls and Mud Slaps that a swarm of Goletts were sending his way. He and Oracle's presence seemed to be a great offense, and the green golems were doing their damnedest to let them know it.

Shit, this was gonna be a close call. Monty put some distance between himself and the nearest two Goletts and dove behind a boulder, taking cover long enough to gather his thoughts and think of a strategy. They were Ghost-Type according to the PokeDex, so Oracle should be resistant to them. Speaking of which, where the hell wa-

"LEEETT!"

A Golett flew past Monty and smashed into a nearby boulder, the light in its eyes going dark as it crumbled down into the dirt. Oracle appeared in front of her fallen opponent in a flash of black light, and she scratched it with her front claws in an apparant act of gloating. "Oracle!" Monty called, and she turned to him with a questioning look. Why was useless Monty just hiding behind that boulder? The enemies were over there!

She bounded over to her trainer and sat in front of him, scratching an ear with her hind leg as he started blathering about "strategy" and "a plan". What for? These Pokemon were weak! He produced some sort of small capsule from his bag, and she narrowed her eyes at it as he held it out. "This is an X-Speed," he explained, even though she was hardly listening. "If you eat it, you'll be much faster than the Goletts for a little while."

Didn't useless Monty know this wasn't the time for snacks?! She could sense the vibrations produced by the three remaining Golett rapidly approaching their hiding spot, and their moves were getting harder to read with proximity. The Absol's eyes snapped up as she flared her Pressure out, trying to slow their attacks preemptively, and one of the blue golems popped out from behind the boulder as she did.

Useless Monty practically jumped at the spectre's sudden appearance, and he shouted, "Sucker Punch!" Oracle was way ahead of him, though, the black light already crackling around her legs as she shot forward and slammed into her opponent. It should have been a clean hit, but her horn didn't bite into the Golett the same as the first; it was like this one had an Iron Defense.

Before Oracle could jump back, the Golett slammed a fist charged with purpleish energy into her, and she was sent rolling back a few feet from the unexpected counter attack. Her fur bristled with fury, and she shot back to her feet with a venomous glare as the Pressure poured off of her. How dare this peon actually strike her? It would need to be taught a lesson in humility.

"Oracle! The capsule!" Monty shouted to his damaged partner, flinging the X-Speed at her in the hopes she'd know what to do. To his surprise she actually caught in, swallowing it in one go before turning back to her opponent. Thank Xerneas, she finally liste-

"OOF!" Monty grunted as something slammed into his back, knocking him off his feet. He spun around to see another Golett behind him, a white energy fading from its fist, and the criminal panicked for a second as he scrambled backward. Shit, he'd forgotten about the other two! He was fucked, Oracle had her hands full with the one she was battling, but this one seemed intent on turning him to mush!

Monty jumped to his feet and dashed behind another boulder, hoping to shake it off his tail, but the Golett appeared in front of him just as he rounded the corner! The criminal jumped forward, narrowly dodging a Mud Slap and taking his chances that it wouldn't be fast enough to hit him as he rolled by. He didn't hear the sound of battle coming from where he left Oracle, but she hadn't reappeared yet! Had she been defeated? No, more likely she was just watching in amusement at his game of cat-and-mouse with the Goletts.

Monty was exactly right. Oracle had defeated her sturdy opponent with relative ease thanks to that capsule he'd given her, and she watched him from atop one of the smaller boulders. She mused that her vengeance for making her sit in those warehouses with those irritating rats was finally at hand, and she found great joy in useless Monty's hooting and hollering as he ran for his life. That would show him!

After a minute or so of revelling in her vengeance, Oracle decided she might as well bail useless Monty out. She readied a Night Slash, the dark energy gathering in her horn as she shot forward with abnormally high speed, and just before one of the Goletts caught her partner with a Shadow Punch she caught it in the neck from behind. The Golett fell forward with a cry, and Oracle began stomping and scratching at its back; Play Rough.

Useless Monty started shouting at her for not coming to his aid sooner, the ungrateful welp, and she fixed him with a glare as she searched for the final Golett with her horn. She followed the vibrations, sensing for its movement along the ground, and flared her Pressure as it approached. There!

The black light of Sucker Punch carried her to her opponent, zig-zagging between boulders before she slammed into it. It's movements were hampered by the outpouring of Pressure, and it was sent flying before it could manage a counter. It fell with a cry, staying down after bouncing off a boulder.

Monty breathlessly ran up behind his partner as she loomed over her opponent, and he sank down next to her as he tried to catch his breath. Rather than the usual glare, she regarded him with amusement, and he gritted his teeth as he asked, "What, you think this was funny?"

The Absol nodded her head affirmatively. He had put on an amusing show, after all!

~Aldon...~

Aldon grinned and placed one hand on magnemite and another on sigilyph. He then paused after Desmond noticed Skol facing the wrong direction.

"That way. That way, bud" Aldon said. Skol silently staring into the distance.

"Hm" Aldon muttered. He walked over and stood in front of Skol, waving his hand around side to side, which quickly got Skol's attention as he watched Aldon's hand sway around. Aldon then pointed in the correct direction. Skol looked at Desmond before glancing back at Aldon. He looked at Sigilyph.

"Can you help?" Aldon asked.

Sigilyph made a rumbling noise before using its psychic powers to lift the slowpoke off the ground. Toes dangling around as the flying psychic pokemon turned the hippopotamus pokémon to face the correct direction. Aldon patted Skol on the back, "Good job, Wunder!" Aldon said giving sigiylph a double thumbs up. Aldon then made his way back to his spot, ready.

"Saaaay dendrochronology!" Aldon said. To which each of his pokémon let out a short burst of cheer.

“Hmmm,” Curious. Esther blinked and her gaze shifted from Desmond to her party. A few pointed glances told Esther everything she needed to know. Her pokémon milled about without reaction to the photo shoot. They didn’t mind either way. However, maybe some additional pictures would do well. Esther had a few ideas.

“Sure, but you’ve got to send me a copy of the photos. Where do you want them?”

Gwen Tucker - 16th of June - Battle field behind the Pokecenter, Eterna City, Sinnoh
"Ack! Cobalt!" Gwen shouted as Naka scolded the Penguin pokemon. She was right, but the young trainer still couldn't help but feel like her starter listening was her responsibility.

Cobalt's prideful smile was quickly wiped off as he was met with Fluff's disappointed face, but his smug smile was ripped off more so because the Flareon was charging right at him! He had no time to dodge it with Fluff not holding back and going full force on him. Cobalt stood no chance of being tackled by him and flew backwards and landed limp on the sandy field.

Gwen gritted her teeth, fearing that this misstep had become their loss, and it proved to me the case. The water-type had fainted.

The young blue haired girl slumped her shoulders and shook her head, "We lost.. Thank you though, Naka. I don't think me and Cobalt have fought this well, ever," she said putting on a smile and looking at the older trainer gratefully and took out the plain pokeball to recall her pokemon.

"I guess it's your turn then," Gwen said, swapping pokeballs to nab the Duskball to prepare for the next fight with her new team mate against Ron and Luz.

"Ready, Mr. Punk?"

Fluffy's Quick Attack had practically bowled over the poor penguin. The Flareon skidded to a halt, staring at the knocked out Water-Type. He seemed to be thinking about something, then he walked towards the sidelines where Ron and Luz were, not wanting to be pulled into his confines just yet.

Sighing at the girl's loss, Naka walked over to Gwen's side of the field, patting her shoulder with a smile. "I don't want you to think you did terribly, Gwen. You and Cobalt gelled well when you could, but Piplup are very prideful Pokemon. His pride isn't your fault, and sometimes we need help to curb that behavior. We have a Pokemon Center right next to us, so don't worry about the damage he received. But you're welcome, Gwen. You and Cobalt did wonderfully, especially from where you were before, if I am to assume correctly. Hopefully, Cobalt takes his loss as it being his fault for not listening to you when he should have."

Pardoning herself, she walked over to the sidelines, getting on one knee and fishing for a Sitrus Berry for Fluffy to snack on. Laying down next to her, he held the berry in both paws and ate it chunk by chunk, his energy slowly coming back to him.

Ron Towers, June 16th, Eterna City.

"Well that was a close match." Ron teased as the battle ended. He gave a small clap and then looked down at Luz, "Alright girl, you ready? We gotta train the newbie's newbie."

Luz looked up, tilting her head to the side, but a few moments of thinking it over made her jump up on to her four feet and trout towards the battlefield. She stopped where she believed to be the center of it, but she was pretty close to the edge of the right side. Ron walked over and took his spot, looking a bit confident despite battling with a blind Pokemon.

"Alright Gwen, Ozzy needs to smell and listen in order to know where to aim his attacks to. So, your words are going to be very valuable to him. If you say right, he might not listen cuz he's a baby, but practice makes perfect, right Luz?"

The Espeon purred loudly in response and closed her eyes, waiting for the battle to start while she tried to get used to the area around her.

Savannah, as she introduced herself, let her know how many there were. Nine? Huh, Naka was only one off. Hearing that one of them hasn't been around in a while... "Well, I don't think this ninth person is showing up if he hadn't followed you guys here. While I don't mind renting another set of gear, I doubt he's here now, so I'll just rent eight, if that's okay. If he is here though, I'll just pay him to rent his gear." She smiled and turned towards the renter, passing over her money to rent the scuba diving gear they needed.

Oh... Now they needed to carry it. "Well, glad I only got eight, but now we need to figure out..." She trailed off, then sighed. "Got any Pokemon who can carry this? I got a Swampert and an Aerodactyl who can carry probably two each. Ludicolo can carry two... If he allows me to use his lily pad hat, which I doubt... But I don't think him carrying anything with his propensity to dance is a good idea..." Trailing off, she looked up at Savannah expectantly, hoping she had some Pokemon who can help.

His heavy footsteps reverberated off the glossy walls of Reflection Cave, his legs carrying him faster than he had ever moved as he ran through the infinite labyrinth. His breathing was ragged, and his eyes frantically searched for...whatever he was pursuing. Wait, who was he chasing after?

His pace slowed, and he came to a stop as he wondered why he was running in the first place. Did he lose someone in the cave? He looked around, but the corridor was devoid of life. He was alone. Of course he was, he always had been. He didn't need to run after anybody, all he needed was himself. He shook his head, laughing at himself that he'd been so worked up in the first place.

His epiphany reached, he turned to go back but spotted something in one of the myriad mirrors lining the stone corridor. It was...him? But it wasn't him now, it was him back then, orange jumpsuit and all. His heart dropped at the sight, adrenaline coursing through him as his body readied itself to run again, but before he could react the image lunged forward. It burst out of the mirror, latching onto his coat and dragging him into the glossy surface.

He struggled against the apparition, but his limbs felt like feathers blown in the wind; completely powerless. Was this really happening? It was going to drag him back! He flailed against his grappler to no avail, kicking and shouting voicelessly as it pulled him through the mirror. This couldn't be happening, he couldn't go back!

Then he was back. Moonlight flooded his cramped cell for the first time since his incarceration, and he wondered why the light couldn't be this gentle on his eyes during the day, instead of oppressing them with harsh flourescence that stung his eyes when he finally closed them for the night.

He laid on his side in the uncomfortable bed, and his body felt like it was sleeping even though he could see his cell just fine. He was acutely aware of the even rise and fall of his chest, of his overgrown hair tangling even then against the pillow, and worst of all, he could feel his face and it's blatant lack of stitches.

His heart dropped for the second time, and he tried to thrash himself awake to no avail. He was an unwilling spectator in his own body, and he had a front row seat to what would come next.

The shadows on the wall opposite to him congealed and bubbled, and a spherical mass pulled away from the concrete surface. He tried to scream, tried to rouse himself, but his body stubbornly refused to react as the sphere's bright white eyes snapped open. It pushed a small object out of itself, the bronze key glinting in the flooding moonlight, and the sphere lazily floated to the cell door.

GET UP!
ITS HAPPENING, GET UP!
YOU HAVE TO WAKE UP!

"AH!"
Monty half-gasped, half-screamed as he shot upwards in his sleeping bag, gasping for air and whipping around frantically to locate the sphere and its trainer, but all his frantic eyes saw were the smoldering embers of the campfire, the orange-tinged early morning sky, and Oracle staring at him from her sleeping mat across the camp.

She regarded her trainer with curious eyes, wondering what could have gotten him so spooked that he'd wake up in such a fright. She was there, after all. What did he have to worry about with such a strong fighter in their camp? Silly useless Monty, getting worked up for nothing. The Absol returned to her own slumber, while Monty wriggled out of his sleeping bag and staggered to his feet.

He'd had that dream before, each one a little different, but this one was something else entirely. What was he supposed to make of it? That reflection that dragged him into the cell...it was the same one he'd seen in Reflection Cave the day before. The criminal wiped the sweat from his brow as he crouched down next to his bag, rummaging around for a water bottle to hopefully wash away the dryness clinging to his throat and the memory of the nightmare.

Sweat permeated his undershirt, and when he rummaged through his backpack a little more he came to another startling realization.

He didn't pack any changes of clothes!

"Book rooms later? If you were over there, why didn't you just book the rooms while you were there?! Did you even check if they had open rooms? That's it, you're coming with me whether you like it or not! Since you care about a winning streak so much that you ignore the most important part of your job, then clearly I need to take it from you!"

Eveline groaned as she shoved people out of the way in the small crowd and pulled out one of her Poké Balls. She would then get to her spot and toss it out, sending Ruination, her Overqwil. She couldn't believe how reckless this girl was... she probably didn't even go into the inn to check if there were available rooms. She could have just left the girl here and got the reservations herself... but she felt the girl needed to be taught a valuable lesson about responsibility.

"Whoa I didn't know Qwuilfish could evolve!" Reina exclaimed, happy to have finally started her next battle. "This should be fun, a good practice for the Whirl Cup, water versus water! Storm let's go!"

The Lapras emerged from her MoonBall and landed on the field, causing a small splash of water as she did so. The eager water ferry Pokemon wiggled her ears and flapped her front flippers, always anxious to battle. Reina smiled and raised her right arm, stretching it.

"You know, you look really strong, I was just too shy to ask you for a battle. I'm really glad this is happening." The Metztli trainer stretched her other arm and then took a deep breath, "I the King of the Hill accept your challenge! Storm, Water Pulse!"

Storm took in a deep breath, a sphere of water began appearing in front of her and then she roared, shooting the sphere like a canon ball towards Ruination.

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto, Eveline

As the pulsing water ball hurtled toward Ruination, they prepared to take the hit as they thought about their next move. Eveline had a feeling she would get this, Reina didn't know Overqwil's typing, which meant she had somewhat of an advantage, even if the Water Type would help a bit in this situation. After taking the hit, Overqwil shook their... head(?) in order to readjust.

"Ruination, silence this little canary, would you? Not a fan of the whole whale noises helping you sleep thing."

Ruination would zoom towards Storm while preparing to use Throat Chop, spinning a bit as one of their large spikes would go for Storm's neck.

"Kid, sometimes there are fights you just don't want, this is one of them. Me because I see this as pointless when you could have listened and just gone back to get those reservations now. You because you're gonna get completely stomped by me."

Desmond watched as Aldon seemed to become aware that his partner seemed to be facing the wrong way, some encouragement and even leading with a finger seemed to not register fully to the Pokemon who perpetually had a thousand yard stare. Thankfully, Aldon had called upon his Siglyph Wunder who used its psychic power to place Skol in the correct position.

Much as Desmond had kept a fair distance from it, seemed Aldon's party had complimentary utility.

"And that's it..." Desmond mused, working past the shiver as he snapped some pictures of Skol, Aldon and the rest of his party. Once he was done he placed his set of photos in his little catalogue and offered a set of pictures for Aldon if he desired.

Desmond's attention then shifted to Esther, as she seemed to glance at her party and contemplated the offer, before she seemed to give a green light on the condition she'd get a set of photos. Which he had already intended to honor so that had been no issue with him, when asked on where she wanted them he seemed to pause in thought.

"Just anywhere where I can take a group photo and them some natural shots of each just out and about." Desmond clarified to Esther.

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto. Reina, current rank, 35,010

"Careful!" Reina called out, but in vain as the Throat Chop connected, making Lapras jump back with a whine as she failed to make any sound with her mouth.

"I didn't know it could do that, we'll be more careful." Reina pointed at the Overqwil, "Rain Dance!".

Storm began to move her ears again, sending a blue beam from her horn into the sky. Dark clouds gathered quickly over the battlefield and in a few seconds, rain began down pouring over them. Many of the spectators had to cover themselves up, some running for shelter while others staying to watch the match.

‘Natural shots, eh?’ If that’s what Desmond wanted then who was she to deny him? It sure was a good thing they were out and about in the forest...

Esther turned to her pokémon with a mischievous grin. “Scram!”

A testament to her effective training, or perhaps a shared playful nature, her pokémon were quick to obey. Dust flew as within seconds, Pyrrha the Jangmo-o, Halay the Houndour, and L’ Basseau the Surskit vanished into the forest undergrowth and scrambled away. Save Pari, who remained lazily perched atop her trainer’s head, all Esther’s pokémon had taken a hike.

The Oblivian spun on her heels and faced Desmond just long enough to offer an impish grin. She flourished her hand in the direction of the still-shaking leaves, “Au Naturel! Go get ‘em, tiger!”

“Come on Gene, we’re going for a walk~”

Esther tapped the dream-eater pokémon softly and shuddered for a moment as her senses transformed; a telepathic net reached out, tethering Esther to her pokémon and giving her some idea of what they had in store for Desmond. If the photography was quick, he would earn a number of prime, action shots. Esther could feel the itch of her scales...no, Pyrrha’s scales—had it been time for her to start shedding?— and so the scaley pokémon would likely find a firm rock against which to rub and bash. The sound was sure to draw Desmond to her first which would give the restless Halay enough time to find something to stalk. The Houndour hadn’t been afforded many opportunities to stretch her legs, not since the Junior Cup in Unova, and so the dark pokémon would be searching for something to playfully hunt. Perhaps Desmond would score a shot of the Houndour sneaking through the undergrowth or perhaps mid-pounce? Fate would decide.

Finally, L’ Bassaeu was feeling dry and so the Surskit was headed towards a nearby pond where she could moisturize while she skated across the water’s surface. That would likely be Desmond’s last stop and where Esther intended to re-unite with the photographer and her pokémon. Until then...well, she hadn’t had much time to look around the Whirl Islands, so she’d just take in the sights. A futter of movement caught her attention, a small feathered pokémon of black and white and...was that red or was it orange? Another burst of activity, pink feathers, and large, vibrant eyes. Oh, another! Wait, hold one, who was that pokémon?

As the rain poured down, Ruination looked at the Lapras and decided to keep putting pressure onto them. Ruination inflated, swelling up before firing several poisonous spikes towards Storm. This was Barb Barrage, Overqwil's signature move with a 50% chance to poison its foe. And if the foe was poisoned, it would be twice as potent, quite the deadly combo.

"You're very lucky, Reina... had Ruination's Ability been different, you would have just surrendered the match to me. But as it stands... it didn't make a difference anyways. You will fall as you writhe in pain from the deadly poison seeping into your skin, your blood becoming tainted and your body ruined. That is why they are called Ruination, they rend you from the inside."

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto, Genevieve

Genevieve was being dragged along with Esther to yet another spot to take more pictures, though she let her Pokémon roam along with Esther's with a small wave. Sam flew off through the underbrush while Sticky Fingers slowly squelched their way in. Sam would find a random tree and fly up into it, trying to see if there were any berries hanging from the branches... and after just one tree, he had foraged enough to stuff a normal Pokémon quite handedly. However, his stomach was not normal, and he desired consumption. Sticky Fingers would eventually flop into the same pond as L'Bassaeu, spreading out their arms as they relaxed... suction cups only did so much when trying to hold onto Gene's back for so long...

Montagne Khastil - Unranked - June 20 - Menhir Trail, Kalos

Oracle lazed about on the riverbank, soaking up the morning sun as she watched useless Monty fuss about in the water. He had packed up their camp in a daze, hardly saying a word to her as a he stuffed the sleeping bags back into his backpack, and his silence had continued during their short walk to the water. The Absol was confused by his strange behavior, annoyed that he wasn't his usual blustering self.

Useless Monty dunked his shirt in the river, but as his hands moved his eyes seemed to be looking far past the cloth garment. What had happened that he was acting so strange? Oracle's own dream was pleasant, but useless Monty seemed to have ripped himself out of a nightmare based on his loud awakening.

The Absol flexed her claws, scratching at the grass. This wouldn't do! If useless Monty was going to be distracted by something as trivial as a nightmare, how would they get anything done today! She'd just have to bring him to his senses. She stood up silently, and crept up on her trainer who had his back turned to her. Oracle crouched down onto her hindquarters, wiggling her hackles a little as she shifted into the perfect position, and POUNCED! on useless Monty.

"HEY!" Monty shouted as he felt paws on his back, and he fell forward into the brisk Menhir River with a SPLASH! The cold shocked his system, and he pushed himself up and whipped around to see Oracle cackling on the bank. "Why'd you do that?" He demanded, cheeks rosy with embarressment, and his partner fell back and started rolling around in apparant mirth.

Monty threw his soaked shirt at Oracle, which SPLAT!'ed against her face, prompting a boisterous laugh from the criminal and a furious glare from the Absol. His laugh was cut short when he saw black sparks crackling around her feet, and Monty threw his hands up to defend from an attack that...never came.

Monty had closed his eyes in preparation for the Sucker Punch's impact, but instead he felt the weight of her Pressure emanating in waves. He opened his eyes to see Oracle's back turned to him, her fur bristling as she stared up at the treeline. What was she looking at? The criminal scanned the bushes and trees, but whatever caught his partner's ire had yet to appear.

WHOOSH!

A blast of fire came soaring out of the trees, prompting Monty to dive back into the water as it passed dangerously close overhead. The criminal scrambled out of the water, adrenaline coursing through him as he clambered onto the riverbank, and he looked around for cover as he called out, "Oracle, watch out!" The criminal swiped his PokeDex from atop his discard backpack, and held it up for analysis of whatever came out next.

The Absol shot him an irritated look, as though questioning why he thought she wasn't already watching out, and her legs began crackling with the black sparks of Sucker Punch. A second later and she'd SHOT! up into the treeline, and Monty waited with bated breath for her return. He heard some sort of cry, and a Pokemon came flying out from the bushes and landed halfway between the treeline and Monty.

It was smaller than Oracle, with orange fur on its belly, black fur everywhere else, and bone-white growths on its back, legs, and face. It growled up at the treeline, and gave a << Howl >> as Oracle reappeared with a venomous glare.

Monty pointed the PokeDex at the Pokemon, and it reported << Houndour: The Dark Pokemon >>. Perfect! Houndour was on Monty's list of potential captures, and this one had saved them the trouble of hunting for it.

Smoke poured out of the Houndour's nose as it threw its head back, snapping forward and sending another Ember soaring toward Oracle. She jumped to the side, dodging the attack as her horn began glowing with the pink light of Zen Headbutt. "That won't work!" Monty called up, conscious of the Houndour's Psychic immunity, and Oracle flashed him a glare as she disipated the energy.

If that wouldn't work, she'd just have to get in closer. The Houndour charged at her, it's jaws glowing with black light as it readied a << Bite >>, and Oracle decided to meet it with a Night Slash. The Dark-Types clashed in the middle, the Houndour's jaws closed around Oracle's horn, and she thrashed her head to dislodge the black puppy.

The Absol's superior attack won out, and the Houndour let go and rolled a few feet away before popping back to its feet. "Try Quick Attack!" Monty called, hoping the move wouldn't knock out the Pokemon before he could catch it. He readied a Dusk Ball, and in a flash of white light Oracle ducked beneath another Ember before SLAMMING! into her opponent. The Houndour cried out in pain and went flying a few feet farther, landing just in front of Monty.

The criminal paled as the Houndour's attention turned to him, and smoke poured from its nose as purple wisps escaped its growling mouth. "Oracle!" Monty shouted as he backpedaled, trying to put distance between himself and the imminent Smog attack, and his eyes widened when the Houndour sent the small purple cloud flying.

"OOF!" Monty grunted as he was knocked to the side, pushed out of the way by Oracle's Quick Attack. The Absol took the Smog head on, the purple smoke enveloping her as she staggered back a bit. She'd taken the attack for him? Monty was surprised that his partner would do that, and he apologized frantically as she staggered out of the cloud, shot him another glare, and poured Pressure onto him.

"Keep your eyes off me!" Monty shouted, realizing with a start that the Houndour was almost on top of Oracle with another Bite attack. "Detect!" Oracle's eyes glowed blue as her gaze snapped back to her opponent, her legs springing backwards to dodge the incoming Houndour.

A cascade of Pressure came off of the Absol, visibly slowing the Houndour's follow up Bite. The black-and-orange puppy seemed confused at Oracle's ability, and it staggered a bit under the uncomfortable weight. The Dark Types clashed with Bites and Night Slashes, exchanging furious blows until Oracle caught her opponent with a cut to the neck.

The Houndour whimpered as it was pushed back up toward the treeline, and for a moment both Pokemon paused as they caught their breath. Were they an even match? No, Oracle had been whooping it up until that Smog attack...the Smog! Monty's suspicion was confirmed as Oracle suddenly convulsed, retching and throwing up a small amount of purple ooze. She'd been poisoned!

The Houndour wasn't fairing too well, either, though. It seemed to be hanging on by a thread, its breathing heavy as it stared down Oracle. The Pressure definitely wasn't helping either, and Monty grabbed a Great Ball from his bag. This was the perfect chance to catch it, as long as neither Pokemon moved before he threw the ball.

The criminal winded up for a perfect pitch, but Oracle had other ideas. Her legs crackled with the black sparks of Sucker Punch yet again, and she took off just as Monty threw the Great Ball. She sent the Houndour flying up into the treeline, and took its place in the Great Ball's path as it bounced off her harmlessly.

"Damnit," Monty muttered, though he didn't want to scold Oracle considering she'd gotten poisoned defending him. He grabbed another ball and ran up to the treeline, hoping to snag the Houndour before it got far, but it was long gone by the time he got there. The criminal groaned exasperatedly, annoyed that the chance to grab a teammate had come so quick yet left equally so.

Monty hustled back down to Oracle, who threw up another batch of purple bile as she sank to the ground. "Hang on," he told her, and she gave him a glare that seemed to ask if she had any other choice as he ran down to his backpack. The criminal rummaged around for a second before producing an Antidote, and he administered it to his partner after a quick read through of the attached directions.

The Antidote proved to be effective, and Oracle's condition stabilized with no more purple bile incidents. Her partner was relieved, and he sank into the grass as he released his bated breath. Monty swallowed his pride and said, "I'm sorry you had to take that attack for me."

Oracle rolled her eyes, curling up into a ball to rest a bit since she couldn't sense the Houndour's movements through her horn anymore. Of course she had to save useless Monty, he was useless for a reason! Still, it wouldn't do for him to get injured. They both needed to stay in top shape, and it would be a major annoyance if she had to sit at some Human Center waiting for him instead of just going to the Pokemon Center herself.

Yellow Rock Isle, Whirl Islands, Johto (July 19th)

"...you know, when I say "natural" that doesn't automatically equate to me playing hide and seek with them."

Desmond responded with a dry scowl and a exasperated tone as his eyes focused on Esther who decided to cheerfully just let her Pokemon roam wild as he really should've seen this coming given what he had known of Esther since he attached to this group. So really, he had been as annoyed at himself much as anyone.

The kid also seemed to release Pokemon into the wild, and since it had been a bit pointless to complain and his two partners already had began to move to follow and he sighed, as he took his camera and began to scout for some natural pictures...though he paused, just in case Aldon wanted the set of photos he had taken of him and his team first.

Ezio Farello - June 14th - Grand Lake Hotel, Sinnoh

Ezio raised an eyebrow, Raging Fury? He had never heard of that move before, yet it looked like a Fire move if the flames had anything to say about it. Smirking to himself, he commanded Erebus. "Stand your ground, Erebus!" He said as Etna charged at his Typhlosion. Erebus used her paws to try and push against the charging dog, tilling the ground as she got pushed backwards. However, Etna's fiery fur lost its luster as the fire energy got absorbed through her arms.

Erebus ability, Flash Fire, had been activated. It was a rare ability found in the Typhlosion line, so not many people anticipate it.

"Gotcha! Thunder Punch!" Ezio said as Erebus' paws crackled with electricity and she began punching Etna. "Raging Fury, huh? Sounds like a devestating move, were it not for Flash Fire. This might just be closer than I expected." He said, grinning at Kaden.

Nicole Newman - June 10th - Route 3, Galar

"Swablu fly closer to towns during the spring to feed, towns near clean rivers attract more Swablu as they like to clean themselves. They cannot stand dirty things, but I am unsure how that affects the migration. One anecdote that consistently shows up is that Swablu perch on the heads of people and act like they are a hat. Swablu are not afraid of people, but no one knows why they act like hats. Maybe they like the view it gives them?" Nicole said, telling Lara all she knew about the migration.

"Altaria sometimes fly alongside them, but they are a rarity and usually seclude themselves in forests or mountain ranges." She said, looking up at the sky. "I doubt we'll see any, but they are very affectionate Pokémon and have been known to form close bonds with their trainers."

July 19, Tuesday - Yellow Rock Isle, Johto. Reina, current rank, 35,010

"We're not touching those!" Reina called out, spreading her right hand open and aiming at the sky, "Water Pulse the ground, defend yourself!"

Lapras created another water sphere above her, this time it was twice as big as the one before due to the rain. She then shot it down, creating a wave in front of her, washing away the barrage of poisonous spikes. Now Reina was aware of the danger before them, Ruination could basically end them in two moves if they weren't careful.

"Storm, Ice Shard!"

The Lapras wiggled her ears again while several shards of ice formed around and shot forward towards the Overqwil.

Kaden Miller - June 14th - Grand Lake Hotel, Sinnoh
Etna and Erebus clashed, essentially wrestling with each other as the Arcanine's flames were absorbed by the other fire type. Kaden gritted his teeth. Looked like Ezio's Typhlosion had the same exact ability as Etna, something he did not expect at all. The Hisuian-Arcanine had no chance of dodging the next attack and was hit square in her jaw by the electric type punch move. Being hit on the head did not bode well for Etna. Kaden grit his teeth as he watched his beloved pokemon tumble onto the field with a pained whimper, unable to get up as she had fainted.

The coordinator couldn't help but sigh. He did expect this outcome since Ezio was a skill battler and well, he wasn't.

"Good job Etna, you did well there," Kaden said, putting on a small smile for his pokemon as he recalled her into her Luxury ball, "Raging Fury is a move that has been the signature move of the Hisuian-Arcanine. It's equally as beautiful as it is powerful," he explained before grabbing a great ball with a couple of stickers on it.

"Astraea, your turn!" the coordinator then called out with his Starmie appearing out of a flurry of pink and blue bubbles with their center gem flickering with shades of red, "Blast your opponent with Power Gem!" Kaden called out and just as ordered, Astraea's gem began to glow, aiming at Erebus and fired off a red beam of glittering energy at the Volcano pokemon.

Lara Brook - 10th of June - Route 3, Galar

"Oh interesting! I never knew that about Swablu," Lara said, happily listening to Nicole. It was quite nice to learn more about different kinds of pokemon and who else to ask about bird-pokemon than a bird keeper of course. Swablu were just such cute little pokemon and Altaria's were so beautiful and graceful! Such photogenic pokemon, but Lara thought so pretty much about any pokemon out there.

"I would absolutely love it if I ever got the chance to pet one someday. They just look so soft and cuddly, but I know better than not to go and hug a wild pokemon.. I'll stay hopeful that someday I might meet a trainer with one. That might be my best chance," Lara said, explaining her thoughts.

"I could tell people at the KENN office. Maybe we can get a chance to get a gig on gathering material to make a potential report on the migration?" the photographer then suggested, tilting her head to the side a bit.

Gwen Tucker - 16th of June - Battle field behind the Pokecenter, Eterna City, Sinnoh

"Got it," Gwen said with a firm nod. Clutching the Dusk ball in her hand and then tossing it in the air to release the baby Deino again, "Ozzy! Let's see what you've got," the young trainer called out as the disoriented dragon-type shook his head to try and rid him of some disorientation as he had still yet to get used to being called out and being retrieved to a pokeball.

Gwen pulled out her Pokétch to try and see what a Deino might know at its current state and well... It wasn't much. Then again, he was also a baby so it made sense. Luckily Lux happened to be positioned right in front of Ozzy.

"Tackle! And charge right ahead," the light blue haired trainer ordered and the Irate pokemon simply charged ahead, doing his best to ram at whatever was in front of him and let out a loud cry.

Ezio Farello - June 14th - Grand Lake Hotel, Sinnoh

"Interesting, I didn't expect that." Ezio said, trying not to wince as Etna let out a whimper. She was such a sweet Pokémon, it hurt him to see her in pain. As Kaden sent out his Starmie, Ezio gritted his teeth. A Water type, and a strong one at that. It threatened Erebus with Power Gem, a Rock move that was sure to take Erebus down. Still, he didn't want to let his partner go down without a fight. Clenching his fist, he shouted before making a fist-bump motion to his Typhlosion.

"Bring the heat, Erebus! Blast Burn!"

Erebus let out a roar as the flames on her neck flared up and she rubbed her fur together, igniting her fur as she got set ablaze into a fiery circle, spreading out over the ground as the flames rapidly expanded with Erebus in the middle, hoping to break the attack for now and possibly even hurt Astraea. However, Blast Burn was a risky move and Ezio rarely used it due to the strain it put on Erebus. He just hoped it was worth it.

Nicole Newman - June 10th - Route 3, Galar

"You might be able to, Swablu are known to be friendly. Who knows, maybe you could catch one?" Nicole said, smiling slightly as she watched Lara's excitement. It was endearing, seeing her so interested in her stories. "As for the Swablu migration news story, it might be a worthwhile item. Maybe some other Pokémon fans will come and visit? It would probably be good to say that catching should be kept to a minimum, unless you want the population to be decimated."

Ron Towers, June 16th, Eterna City.

"Roll right." Ron said, a smirk of confidence on his face.

Luz ears twitched as she heard her trainer and swiftly rolled towards the right. As she sniffed the incoming Deino, she reached out with her tail, allowing the dragon Pokemon to catch her sent.

"Good idea Luz, that should help the little- ow!" Ron cried out as Ozzy ran into his chin, "Wrong way man!" He jumped away from the Pokemon and looked at his Espeon, "A little help here?".

The Espeon purred loudly, calling out to the dragon Pokemon as she sat down once again to wait for his attack. She knew she could take a couple of hits from the baby Pokemon, but it was more important for her that he knew how to find his opponents. Ron had trained her in a similar way, having his Quilava give Espeon her scent and then chasing each other around the field. While she learned to aim her attacks, it was with one of Ron's ex girlfriends, who had psychic Pokemon, teaching Luz how to react to her surroundings while feeling the changes in the atmosphere. Of course, Deino couldn't do that, but he could definitely smell and hear very well, at least Luz hoped so.

Nakano Saito

Date: 1 Month Ago (26 years old); June 16
Location: Eterna City Pokemon Center Battlefield, Sinnoh
Pokemon Team: Chu the Pichu, Fluffy the Flareon, Hanu the Infernape, Yuki the Froslass, Aero the Aerodactyl, Orochi the Zweilous

Interactions: Ron Towers and Luz the Espeon (Hecotoro), Gwen Tucker and Ozzy the Deino (IDKWhatUserNameToDo)

Naka stood there and watched with her arms crossed, shoulders relaxing as she looked between the baby Deino and the Espeon. Even though this was a mock battle made to teach the Deino, Ron looked to be growing excited to finally get to fight. Huh, a battle junkie. For a bit, she used to be that way. Well, okay, scratch that, she loved to fight and show off how strong her Pokemon were.

At least Gwen made sure to check what the Deino had and ordered it with a direction. Good on her.

What she had noticed was that, despite the Deino bonking, Ron was sounding a bit... ridiculous. He didn't have Luz focus on attacking, but Naka realized he was holding back. Maybe a bit too much. Then again, this was a baby they were up against.

The purr from the Espeon had Naka's Flareon's ears perking up and he took a moment from his Sitrus Berry snack to stare, seemingly in awe before realizing what he was doing and going back to snacking.

Wanting to cause a bit of mayhem, Naka's Pichu grabbed a few pebbles strewn about behind Naka, climbed up to her head, and threw three pebbles into the battlefield. One hit near Luz, the other landed quite far from the other two, and the last managed to land next to Ozzy. Before she could throw her fourth, Naka grabbed it in mid-air, her chuckle dark and foreboding. "Chuuuu... Let them figure out how to fight, damn it."

Pichu's ears fell, only to give some attitude by crossing her arms and looking away. Then she conceded and slumped, nuzzling herself into Naka's hair. Naka called out, a look of exasperation on her face. "Sorry 'bout that, Chu got bored." She sighed, shaking her head.

She felt one of her PokeBalls wiggle, then another. Holding the two who did it, she realized who they were.

Hanu, Aero, keep inside for now, pleeeaase...

Montagne Khastil - Unranked - June 20 - Menhir Trail, Kalos

It was a shame that the Houndour got away, but Monty and Oracle spent the rest of the day making up for losing out on their potential teammate by carving their way through Menhir Trail's hordes of cute and cuddly critters. Between the training and the sweltering June sun, though, Monty realized another problem had arisen; he smelled!

The criminal didn't have the foresight to pack either a change of clothes or babywipes, and his attempt at washing his shirt in the river did little in the long run. He tracked down a nearby town on his phone, one which was home to a motel, laundromat, and Pokemon Center, and should be devoid of Geosenge's tourist influx. Perfect!

But just where the hell was...Calam? Cauldron? Monty checked his phone again as he and Oracle walked side by side on the wide dirt path which ran parallel to the Menhir River. Calanthe Town! The criminal had never heard of it, but apparently it was nestled somewhere along Menhir River within the route's foothills. There may have been good reason for never hearing about it though, because Monty was starting to seriously doubt that it existed in the first place!

"We've been walking for hours," the criminal grumbled, peering up at the slowly setting sun as Oracle did some looking of her own, throwing her trainer a glare that questioned just whose fault that may be.

And just why did they need to visit this supposed-human town? So useless Monty could buy clothes! Oracle scoffed at the notion, seriously doubting the importance of such articles. Humans were strange creatures. She looked at her partner, who figeted with everything from the straps on his bag to the glowing slab in his hands, and decided useless Monty was the strangest of them all!

The Absol wasn't the only one thinking their partner was behaving strangely, though. Since they'd beaten the Houndour that morning, Monty had noticed Oracle seemed...distracted. He'd noticed her seeming to meditate on several occasions since they'd met, but today it seemed like she was doing it constantly.

The Absol would finish a battle and whip around in some random direction, as though expecting another opponent to leap out at them, but they never came. They'd take a break to eat or drink, and she'd rest her eyes instead, or she'd glare out into the surrounding forest with her fur on end. Maybe he was running her too hard?

Monty reflected on their past few days since going into hiding. Reflection Cave was a constant go-go-go for hours, and their time on Menhir Trail so far was much the same. He felt fine, sure, but the worst damage he'd taken was from sleeping on the ground. He'd have to give her a longer break soon. All the better that they get to Calanthe Town quick, then.

Oracle had different plans, though, and promptly sat down, planting her rump on the path and refusing to move even another step. Monty raised his eyebrows in disbelief, sharing a look of disbelieving-annoyance with his statue-esque partner. "What, can't be bothered to keep walking?" The criminal asked, and Oracle nodded a firm yes as she brought a paw up to her mouth to lick. What the hell was he gonna do with her? Monty looked forward down the path, seeing nothing but more orange-bathed dirt and trees ahead.

"Fine, I guess we can set up camp," the criminal grumbled. Oracle silently rejoiced at her trainer's first good decision of the day, and the duo cut into the forest to find a good spot.
