Shade waited for Ajax to say something between the lines of "congratulations" or something else along the lines of keeping her Gengar's Destiny Bond in check. What she wasn't expecting was for Ajax to be impressed, much less mentor her. What? She didn't register this at first, her face stuck in what looked to be her gears turning in her head, processing what he just said. As soon as it clicked, her eyes brightened up with joy, glistening with happiness, as Gar and Doom were all giving smiling faces to Ajax and Shade.
She was going to get better. Despite the fact that Gar did an illegal move, but that didn't matter. He understood why. Gar felt absolutely thrilled at the fact that he did so well, feeling a warming wave budding in his chest from the given compliment.
Shade was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet now, her smile so big, she can rival the likes of Joker. "Thank you so much, Ajax! It's a great honor!"
She realized what she was doing was pretty kiddish, so she cleared her throat as she stopped, but that big goofy grin on her face didn't go away, and neither was the excitement lessened.
Hearing the good news, Chu, Shade's Alolan Raichu, burst from her PokeBall to give everyone hugs and, in her new burst of energy from the happiness, used Wish on her comrades, the twinkling bits of energy sparkling around her before they traveled to the two Pokemon, sprinkling health and energy among them as two wishing stars passed by overhead. Of course, that didn't ease the soreness in their muscles from the moves they used, but it was enough to give them energy again.
Shade returned Doom and Gar while her Raichu floated about next to her, squeaking with glee. "Thank you so much, Ajax. I can't thank you enough. Can we train together tomorrow?" Arceus, she sounded like a giddy child.
Meanwhile, Glacier wasn't as lucky. As he was popping up, trying to surprise the Ghost-Type, he hit a snag. Well, more like a Shadow Ball to the face as he was going back up through the tunnels. He fell back and was dizzy for a bit. Now he was in the tunnels, unable to be seen when looking in, since he fell back aways.
The referee spoke out, saying that Edward was the winner. Eva couldn't believe it. She walked up to the tunnel, peeked inside, and found her Glaceon, laying there, unconscious. She returned him and kissed his PokeBall. Tears streamed from her eyes as she felt anger welling up inside her.
She didn't even want to look at the winner, much less congratulate him.
After a bit of calming herself down, she stood up. She had plastered an empty smile on her face, but her eyes were intense with anger and sadness. She quickly said "good battle" before leaving the battlefield super quickly. With all these people watching, she lost. How could she lose so quickly? Her first battle too! She mentally cursed herself as her fake smile turned into a frown, then her lip and chin trembled.
As she made it to the nearest Pokemon Center, she gave Glacier's and Umbra's PokeBalls to the nurse, who gladly took them. She then angrily sat down with a huffing and buried her face in her hands. Up to this point, she was practically beating herself up, and then projecting that onto Edward. The good bit of her said they had both fought well, but she didn't want to hear it. She still lost, and her first battle, no doubt.
Her Eevee, Eve, felt her sadness and forced herself out of her PokeBall. She looked to see her trainer crying, so she curled up between her lap and her head and let her cry into her furry mane.
Oh, how she felt so horrible.
