Esther
Friday, June 10 – Police Station, Motostoke, Galar Region

It was Friday morning bright and early, and Esther found herself, once again, idling away. She had just finished answering a summons and was now reassessing her plans from the discomfort of the Motostoke Police Station’s lobby.

Yesterday’s altercation had shaken the Galarian authorities, and KENN’s live coverage of the events had ensured the shockwaves spread to the public with no chance of being contained. Although it was unnerving to think that it had started with her capture of Houndour, Wynter had assured her that the proceedings were, thankfully, none of her business. However, a bit of curiosity revealed that the trainer they’d arrested yesterday, after thorough interrogation, would be allowed to leave under parole. Apparently, the local authorities weren’t too keen on keeping him behind bars indefinitely when he wasn’t much of a lead on J herself, they settled for putting him on a short leash while they directed their energies to investigating J and the strange Blood Wing she’d wielded, both of whom had mysteriously vanished. Anyway, Esther hadn’t come for that, she had come for another reason.

The events of yesterday had revealed her Houndour’s origins, the poor thing had been kidnapped from its home in western Kalos, route 10. Usually, the rangers would handle Pokémon re-location, but their hands were, understandably, a bit full. To further complicate things, Esther had caught Houndour, and because of that, their hands were tied. They could no more force her to return Houndour than they could force any other trainer to return their capture to the wild. As Wynter had put it, the only real difference between trainers and poachers was that trainers legally kidnapped with Pokéballs what Poachers illegally kidnapped with traps and snares.

The ranger clearly had nothing good to say about trainers or their practices, but Esther couldn’t argue with her logic.

Trainers tended to walk the moral grey lines of human-Pokémon interactions. She hadn’t given much thought to it before, but if Pokémon were highly intelligent creatures, as they clearly were, then how did they feel about being captured in Pokéballs? How did they feel about battles? Sure, many Pokémon grew to love and adore their trainers, but the process was akin to a severe form of Stockholm syndrome. The more she thought about it the more uncomfortable she felt about the entire prospect of being a trainer. It seemed...wrong, in a way, but that was obviously a personal and moral view that was influenced by her culture and upbringing. To her, it was obvious that Pokémon shouldn’t spend time trapped in enclosures or confined to Pokéballs. Even Pyrrha, for all the biting she’d done yesterday, had spent the night at the foot of Esther’s bed, outside her Pokéball. It had helped that the drake appeared deeply remorseful, if not outright apologetic. Though to complicate matters, the incident had shocked the Jangmo-o into being more reclusive than ever before...back to square one, sigh.

Esther wondered what other trainers had to say about the topic; hell, she wondered what her own Pokémon would say about it. Jangmo-o...Pyrrha...she remained an enigma, but could it be that the drake’s erratic behavior was a way of acting out? Was it a defiant protest of her circumstances—to protest being torn away from her fellows at the orphanage and forced into the care of a trainer she never even got the chance to know? Well, for Houndour she already knew. She had learned from Wynter that her Houndour wanted to return home with all due haste. That had thrown a small wrench into Esther’s plans.

Kalos was a long way off. In fact, it was a whole other region and without her brother to ferry her around, she would have to find her own means of travel. This wasn’t exactly hard; though they weren’t used in Oblivia, planes, and trains couldn’t be that hard to figure out. No, the problem was the cost.

She still wanted to see the World Coronation Series match scheduled for next week Saturday, a full 8 days away. At roughly $50 a night, even a cheap room at the Inn would run her $400 dollars, nearly a quarter of her funds and that was before food or travel expenses to Kalos. Of course, it was entirely possible to set up her camp on the city’s outskirts and live in the Wild Area, but she certainly wasn’t going to be able to scavenge enough food for the entire group, and furthermore, tickets would still be a heavy burden on her finances.

Her problems all pointed towards one, overwhelmingly obvious conclusion—she needed a job.

- - - - - -

Technology was a wonder!

Esther had transitioned to a miniature park: centered around a Pokéball-adorned fountain and flanked by verdant trees and a few benches. On one such bench, the Oblivian sat with an array of pages projected from her Pokétch. Each was a holographic representation of job requests in the GMA, the great Motosoke area.

Given her circumstances, most jobs weren’t suitable. She wouldn’t be in Galar for an extended period, the job’s primary purpose was to fund her travels after all. So, any job with permanence or a contract period that exceeded a couple of weeks was automatically off the table. That restriction severely limited her options but on the bright side it limited her options, so she only had to look through a handful of jobs rather than tens to hundreds

Professional jobs were also off the table; at 17, although Esther had tidily completed secondary education, she didn’t have the necessary know-how to tackle technical jobs that would require certification or tertiary education. It was a shame because most of the jobs she saw wanted contract workers with specific skills like Web-design, Pokémon Compatibility Assessment, and Move Tutelage; fortunately, there was also no shortage of unskilled labor:

Delivery Rider
Bob’s Your Uncle, GMA
Part-Time
Flying Types Preferred

Full Job Description
Food is best eaten hot! We'd like to see some blazing fast Pokémon—preferably Flying-type Pokémon—to help deliver our meals directly to our customers. Complimentary refreshments will be provided to employees.

Pay will be on a per delivery basis.

A delivery job; it was simple and didn’t have much in the way of prerequisites, but the pay was a bit...uncertain. Payment on a per delivery basis meant no guaranteed salary, if no one decided to place an order, or worse, deliveries simply weren’t assigned to her, then she wouldn’t get paid. That would completely defeat the purpose of getting the job in the first place.

She’d have to pass on this one. Swipe left!

Hoodlum
Galar Taxi, Motostoke , GMA
$100 per target – Part-time, Contract
Dark Types Preferred

Full Job Description
Let’s see what kind of person they are... We would like to hire Dark-type Pokémon. People reveal their true natures when gripped by fear, after all; we’d like dark types to reveal the depths of the human heart through terror. Limited legal protection is included in compensation.

Contract Duration
As Needed

? ? ? ? ? ?

Hoodlum? Legal protection!? What the hell was this job? Seems like there were all kinds of jobs in Galar, but this one sounded sketchy... Swipe left!

Seasonal Farm Assistant/Hand
Gilded Fields, Dappled Grove, GMA
$18 an hour – Full-time, Contract

Full Job Description
Immediate opening for a full-time barn helper to handle the summer Wooloo shearing season; the farm sits on private land with an acreage of 225 in the greater Motostoke area. One-bedroom apartment included in compensation; apartment can be furnished or unfurnished and includes internet and utilities. Person must have prior experience with farm work and be an independent worker.

Duties include feeding, turnout, stall and barn cleaning, hay & feed setup, Wooloo shearing, Miltank milking, etc.

Contract Duration
June 10th – June 25th

Oh! This job was perfect. The Poke-farm was an environment that couldn’t be any more familiar; her own home was a bug farm where they produced silk threads utilized by Oblivia and Almia’s famous weavers as well as honey. Although she was far more familiar with bug Pokémon, the experience couldn’t be that different.

Even better, the job had decent pay and great compensation benefits; they might even provide meals with their lodging, but the date...that was today! The job was still posted so obviously, no one had taken it yet. She needed to get to Dappled Grove!

Route to Goldenrod City, Johto (June 8th)
The first impulse Desmond had when the random Axew had appeared in front of them was to jump back which given Drampa had moved close to "comfort" him had only reinforced this response. Still, he had managed to avoid a scream which allowed him to preserve some dignity as Emma had taken charge and Politoed released itself from its Pokeball.

"Politoed!"

Politoed seemed to sense danger, and as Emma tried to use Sliggo to understand what was going on it declared an attack which nearly caused Desmond to drop his camera.

"S-shit just my lucky day!" Desmond cursed as Politoed moved by Sliggo as if to offer aid if it needed it. Oh great, another battle this was just...just peachy Desmond sighed to himself.
Axew had attempted to dodge the Dragon Pulse, but it was too fast for the Pokémon's inexperience and was a direct hit. Emma knew her Sliggoo's moveset was not ideal for this situation, but had no choice. Axew walked over to Emma, and was Genuinely impressed with her Sliggoo. The mon looked at Emma, confused with what she had in her hand, he then touched the circle on the center of the Cherish Ball as she looked at it, sitting on the side section of her bag. It sucked the Axe Jaw Pokémon into the ball and one, click! Axew was caught in the Cherish Ball. She put the Cherish Ball on her belt, and looked to Desmond.

"Let's go, Desmond, We should get to Goldenrod City."

--------

June 9th, outside Motostoke City, Galar.

Firey Argentston had been recuperating after that Mysterious Salamence had somehow two shotted nearly three Pokémon, he knew he was going to try to catch her when Butt Ocks had actually caught up to her and tried to do something. He figured he'd write up what he had encountered, and send it to the Pokémon Rangers, after that he was calling a Press Conference. He needed to get in contact with someone who worked with KENN. But first, he needed to get to the Pokémon Center. He flew into the city, landing somewhere near the Gym there, and got off, returning his Salamence. He pulled out Sharp's pokeball, letting her out, as they walked around Motostoke City, seeing little shops.

"Ariana would love these little shops." Firey whispered.

Firey then looked and found the Pokémon Center, running towards it. When he arrived, several trainers familiar to The Battle Frontier had noticed him.

"Mr. Maze Guardian!?" One was shocked.

"I'm here to heal up several Pokémon." He explained, "Including a recent catch or two."

Firey produced the Pokeballs for Gyarados, Metagross, Carbink, Luxray, Volcarona, Hydreigon, Hawlucha, and Salamence. When it was his turn, he then walked up.

"Hello, how can I help you today?"

"I need these eight Pokémon healed today." Firey handed over the aforementioned pokeballs.

Sharp put her front paws on the table, as she looked at the Equipment used for recovering and Checking out Pokémon.

"I caught a Carbink, a Hydreigon, and fought a crazy Salamence today, it took a bunch of them." Firey explained.

"Everyone will be okay, I will do my best." Nurse Joy responded, "please wait while we help your Pokémon recover."

He sat down with his Absol, looking around the room, sending a message to his wife and kids. He had tried fighting this Salamence, but from what he'd heard about Anabel, this made Anabel look like a minor threat. It took him, the ninth ranked trainer, he was pretty sure he saw the ninety-ninth ranked trainer out of the corner of his eye and an unranked trainer who most likely Hydreigon's kid, to which she would likely unleash her rage against if she found out. He then heard a ding meaning that his Pokémon were ready.

"You okay," Nurse Joy responded, "Your Pokémon are ready."

"A ridiculous opponent, it seemed to able to use moves A Salamence should not be able to use, It used a Quiver Dance, and some time later, used Counter." Firey explained, "I'd rather be facing a Legendary than that Salamence again."

Nurse Joy was confused, and it was probably for the best that she was not explained the events. He then got everyone's pokeballs and headed back to the Budew Drop Inn. He went back to his room and prepared to sleep.

June 10, Budew Drop Inn.

He woke up with a fresh head, and figure he'd get some breakfast in. He had sent everything he needed to the Rangers before he snoozed, and everything had been fine, so Naturally he checked the Shinxtagram, finding a post about his nephew had landed in Alola, and a post stating that his wife, Ariana, had been encountered at the Airport, purchasing a ticket to Hammerlocke. What? His wife was coming to Galar? Since when did she want to come to Galar? He blushed, thinking about the old days and how nice it's going to be when they travel together, similarly to up to their wedding. He then got up, showered, dressed and headed out for the day, the Receptionist waved to him as he left. He then worked on trying to get a hold of KENN, he needs to do that press conference due to Carbink, Hydreigon and Hunter J.

"Hello, this is the Maze Guardian, I need to make a Press Conference for those in Galar and those in Hoenn."

"Okay, We're calling the closest person on our staff to your location."

"I'll be heading to Den D, who ever you send should meet me there, I'm going to see how it is." Firey responded.

"Understood, as such we'll get a hold of you when we have someone."

"Thank you," Firey explained, "This is also for my wife, she would be relieved to see me well."

Firey then hung up with KENN, and headed off, opening Luxray's pokeball to make sure nothing gets past him today. He then made his way towards Den D outside of Motostoke City.

Trainer Ariana Montgomery, Rank 20,046, June 9th-10th, Hammerlocke City Airport, Galar

It had been an almost fourteen hour flight, as Dedenne had been keeping his trainer from breaking down mid-flight. When the plane landed in Hammerlocke, Galar she had Dedenne on her Shoulder and Drakloak floating next to her as she got off the plane. The Galarian natives were quite surprised when they saw Ariana, a foreigner to them, with a Drakloak. Ariana got her stuff, and got moving, she packed a small backpack as she was traveling through the region to find her husband, and maybe travel through Galar again. She then started looking Lost, looking around Hammerlocke, looking to try and find a way out of the city, she needed to get to Motostoke, and Fast. She looked around and made a right, headed towards somewhere outside of The City.

Route 6, Galar

Ariana had been running for almost twenty-six minutes, and was now out of the city. She then started looking around the route, and immediately spotted a Maractus. That reminded her of her home region of Unova, where they live on a Desert Resort. She also Saw a Hawlucha, and a Skorupi. Those reminded her of two of her husband's strongest Pokémon, Drapion and Hawlucha. She also Saw a Haxorus, which was alarming, and some large snake like Pokémon she had never seen before. She looked through her bag to find a Love ball, a gift from her Husband for her birthday, to use on a Pokémon that she found traveling. As such she prepared for Combat, but was quite surprised when the snake approached her looking for help. She was confused as Drakloak looked around it, and found an injury on the Pokémon's tail. She then looked through her stuff and found a kit used to help Pokémon, which she had from her experience as a Breeder. She looked at the injury, and opened the kit, beginning to clean out the wound on the snake like Pokémon. Drakloak and Dedenne made sure wild Pokémon didn't get near the Pokémon or Ariana.

Route to Goldenrod City, Johto (June 8th)

Desmond seemed relieved that the battle passed and Emma seemed to have everything under control, even managed a capture though he missed a chance to photo the Axew because of...well, trauma. Either way it seemed the Axew had come along without much issue now so perhaps he'd get another chance once his blood pressure had dropped as a sigh escaped the lips of the photographer.

"Alright, I just hope we don't bump into anymore problems..." Desmond expressed.

Politoed seemed to be the more disappointed of the two, as it wanted to have a battle but had been impressed with the Sliggo as it hopped over to the Dragon-Type Pokemon. "Politoed!" ("Wow that was amazing!")

With that, the group continued their venture to Goldenrod City.

Colored
Violet City (Sprout Tower), June 11th

It was honestly quite a surprise that this combo move, which Mocha essentially had to pull off with barely any warning, had taken the problematic Bellsprout down. So while the Vulpix was ecstatic about her victory, Colored was far more calm about the situation as she walked over to the opposing Trainer, taking the <Flash> disc out of his hands. "Thank you for your time, sir."

After being questioned about how the <Acid> was stopped, she seemed a bit too eager to explain the truth behind it due to being fascinated with how moves work and all. "Oh, it was <Extrasensory>! A Psychic type special attack that involves the Pokémon using it attacking the foe with an unseen power. Hence how there was no evidence on what happened to the <Acid> as well as how that last <Will-O-Wisp> you saw went fast enough to the point of inflicting damage COMBINED with <Extrasensory>'s typically high base power and... whoops. I'm rambling a bit, aren't I."

The rambling caused Mocha to sigh a bit, but it was in a positive remark. "Vaouu.... <And to think she can ramble about that for who knows how long...>"

June 11, Saturday - Violet City, Johto. Reina, current rank, 45,385.

Reina shook her hands, trying to stop Colored from stopping herself. "No, no, please continue. I'm here to learn all about Pokemon, combining moves might just what I need to improve myself and my team."

The duo left Bellsprout tower, satisfied with the results and Reina was just eager to learn more about what type of trainer Colored was. The rest of the day was spent settling in at the local Pokemon Center and letting their team rest up. Reina worked a bit with Lapras, having scheduled her match with Falkner the following day. She called her parents before going to bed and even checked her WCS ranking while placing a remind for the upcoming WCS match Acacia vs Leon. If she wanted to be the best, she had to learn from the best.

June 12, Sunday - Violet City, Johto. Reina, current rank, 45,385.

Reina was up early, sneaking out trying not to disturb Colored. She got herself ready, getting her hair into a ponytail and leaving her backpack behind, only taking her Pokemon with her. She felt confident but at the same time nervous, she was on a winning streak and she felt it was about to break any minute now. She didn't want such thing to happen during a gym battle though, she had to focus and hope she had decided her three participants for the battle correctly.

The Metztli trainer stepped into the Violet City gym, which was just a small room upon entering. With the guidance of the receptionist, Reina and Diva took a small elevator, designed for the challenger. After a few moments, she stepped into an elevated battlefield. From the outside the gym was just a tall tower, but now Reina could see that it was designed to give the gym leader an advantage since there was no roof above them, making the battle field a small area compared to the open sky above them.

"Okay Diva, cheer us on." Reina smiled at her partner before looking at Falkner across the battlefield, she clenched her fists and took a deep breath. "My name is Reina Cortez, I am scheduled for a gym battle for your badge."

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

“Welcome challenger, I’m Falkner, the Violet City Gym Leader, master of bird Pokémon” Falkner introduced himself with a grand flourish and his fingers landed on a group of people off to the battlefield’s side. They were a team of Pokémon breeders and Connoisseurs and as per the League’s updated regulations...“Before we battle, you’ll need to have your Pokémon assessed.”

June 12, Sunday - Violet City, Johto. Reina, current rank, 45,385.

Reina nodded. "Yes sir I registered my three choices with the receptionist." She grabbed the minimized Love Ball and expanded it. "I am ready to begin whenever you are."

Reina began to count to ten in her head while taking small breaths. She didn't have a big strategy to deal with aerial opponents. Her only choice for that was Blue Demon, but she had been depending so much on Hawlucha and he was at a type disadvantage in the Violet gym, which is why she had taken him out of her line up. Lapras on the other hand had a type advantage, but she knew that was just a small pro compared to the Pokemon's movements and lack of air support.

"Okay, let's go Lapras!"

The water type emerged with a happy chirp as she landed and wiggled her ears. She look around with curiosity and flapped her front flippers once again, not being able to contain her happiness from being part of the contest going on.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

Falkner nodded and turned to the receptionist who, in turn, handed him three Pokéballs. They had been specially chosen as equals to Reina’s mons based on the information the receptionist had collected from the trainer. Picking on at random, Falkner walked over to his side of the battlefield and brandished the Pokéball—“All right, get going!”

With a flash a Swellow was revealed, its breast filled with pride and a challenging gleam in its eye.

Once both Pokémon were on the field, the referee raised his signal flags.

“This battle will be a three-on-three, challenger Reina against Gym Leader Falkner; the challenger may switch Pokémon at any time. If both parties are ready, then begin!”

Seizing the initiative, Falkner’s Swellow swept into the air as its trainer called a moment after. “Tighten your focus Swellow, « Focus Energy »!” The large swallow Pokémon’s feathers bristled with focus as it soared, racing for the safety of the sky.

Reina and Lapras watched as the bird Pokemon took to the skies. Exactly what they knew they would face, using the open sky as an advantage. That wasn't going to stop them though, before the Swellow could get his Focus Energy off, Lapras was already to go.

"Ice Shard!" Reina called out quickly, not looking to waste any time.

The small pointy icicles formed quickly around the Lapras. She let out a fierce cry as the shards shot in a bullet like way towards the bird flying up ahead.

"Follow up with Rain Dance!"

The Lapras then looked up to the sky, a blue aura started to form around her as she wiggled her ears and flapped her front flippers, rain clouds starting to form above the field.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

“Too obvious! Swellow, «Quick Guard» then finish up «Focus Energy»!”

As the dagger-like shards of ice raced towards Swellow, a flourish of its wings caused a barrier to snap into place and the shards broke against the mystical shield. It had caused it to abandon the focus energy, but evading a super-effective blow was worth the delay.

Although the ice shards had been dealt with easily, rain dance would be slightly problematic. Swellow couldn’t afford to get its feathers water-logged, its flying would be hampered. However, there wasn’t much they could do against the weather itself, so they had to target the source. Swellow circled below the rain clouds gathering its focus once more while Falkner eyed his opponent’s Lapras, searching for the right opportunity.

The rain began to fall on the field while the flying type Pokemon continued to power up. The bird Pokemon wasn't going to come down anytime, but they at least had distance between each other and Lapras had enough arsenal for that.

"Water Pulse, go, go, Go!" Reina aimed at the circling Swellow.

Lapras used the the rain to created a powered up version of her Water Pulse. A small concentrated sphere of water created above her horn before she fired it towards the sky, she followed up with two more since Reina called out "go", three times.

Reina placed her left hand on her other two Pokeballs, in case Lapras needed to escape form whatever the Swellow was planning.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

Falkner chuckled and made his call, “Evade it with «Aerial Ace»!”

Swellow tucked its wings in, dropping into its renowned divebomb. The distance between Swellow and Lapras rendered the water pulse barely even a threat; Swellow could dodge such attacks in its sleep. With a spin it circled around the water pulse, picking up speed until the white glow of aerial ace was its vanguard and it dove towards the ground in front of Lapras. It aimed to take a sharp turn as it neared the ground, then race to reach Lapras before its opponent to re-target.

"It's closing in Lapras, let's try what we talked about, Sing!"

The Lapras braced itself for impact, but it was ready to fight back. The distance between the two closed in and finally, the Swellow made contact with Lapras. The damage was great, Lapras gritted her teeth as she took the impact directly, but she used her weight to keep herself sturdy and began to sing. She let out a loud melody, which created pink sound waves around her and her opponent.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

Falkner’s expression fell as Lapras’ singing began and he quickly tried to make a call. "Snap out of it Swellow, drown it out with Growl!" However, Swellow sagged, its flight path growing erratic before it slumped to the ground fast asleep. That wasn’t good. It looked like Lapras would be a bigger threat than he thought.

"Ice Shard!"

Lapras wiggled her ears fiercely as the small ice picks formed around her once again and then shot like bullets towards the ground Swellow. She was hurt, but she needed to at least give Reina an advantage in numbers before giving up.

"Follow up with Water Pulse!"

Lapras then created a bigger Water Pulse this time, instead of three and then shot it like a canon ball towards the Swellow. Both the trainer and the water ice type held their breath, hoping their attacks would be enough to stop the speedy Pokemon.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

There was nothing the comatose Swellow could do as ice shards and water pulse landed one after the other, throwing up a frosty mist around the bird. When the mist had cleared the referee’s flag came down.

“Swellow is unable to battle!”

Falkner sighed and returned Swellow to its Pokéball.

“Not bad challenger, but how will you handle...this!” The gym leader reached for one of his last two Pokémon and the toss revealed the new challenger was...Pelipper! “Kick things off with «Tailwind»!”

Reina pumped a fist in the air, a small cheer to congratulate their short victory. She and Lapras gave each other a smile and nod before Falkner sent out his next Pokemon. Reina gave her Pokemon a quick look before reaching for Peque's Pokeball.

"Switch out, go Peque!"

The Lapras went back into her Pokeball while at the same time Marshtomp emerged on to the battlefield. The Pelipper successfully set up their Tailwind, but Reina had chosen Peque for this battle knowing he would never be able to keep up with the fast moving flying types.

"Let's use the last of the rain, Water Pulse!"

Peque raised his arms above his head and created a watery sphere in between his paws. He then threw it over his head, the Water Pulse getting bigger and bigger as it approached the Pelipper.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

A powerful gust erupted behind Pelipper. It had been meant to drown out a retaliatory sing if it came to it, but the challenger had decided to switch. That was fine. “Go Pelipper, «Stockpile»!” The water bird Pokémon seemed to gulp down air, its body bulking up as its defenses rose.

The water pulse landed square in its face, but its typing and increased defenses allowed Pelipper to shake it off with ease. “Give it your own «Water Pulse»!”

Soaking up the rain, just as Marshtomp did, Pelipper fired an orb of water that barreled towards its opponent.

The opponent replied with a Water Pulse of its own, which Peque took as a challenge and so did Reina.

"Water Pulse again!"

The Marshtomp created its own once again and shot it directly at the incoming attack. Both moves collided, splashing water all over the field as the rain finally seemed to die down. The boosted defenses of the Pokemon were going to be trouble, as they had no way of breaking them, they could need to wear their opponent down slowly.

"Okay, let's try Rock Slide!"

Marshtomp raised his hands once again, small boulders rising up along with the movements of his arms. He aimed at the flying Pokemon and sent them flying, all at the same time.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

“Go Pelipper!” The Water Bird Pokémon charged, braving the storm of rocks. It dodged a few, using its increased speed from tailwind but it couldn’t evade them all or rather...it didn’t want to! Pelipper came out on the other side of the rockslide much worse for wear. Fortunately, Pelliper had naturally good physical bulk and its earlier stockpile furthered that; it was still cut down to a mere fraction of its full health, but it managed to weather the attack and it closed in on Marshtomp as a dark, ominous aura appeared around it.

“Now, «Payback»!”

Aldon Charlton the Time Traveler, June 14, Tuesday - , Johto

After four days of traveling around Goldenrod City. Playing a few slot machines. Visiting the radio stations. Even getting to make a brief appearance on one of the radio shows. Maybe even made a few shady deals with some suspicious looking individuals. Business of course. For the most part it was a pleasant four days. He then began making his way to the National Park. He had heard a great deal about the place. There were regular bug contests held there. Most bugs didn't interest Aldon since they weren't exactly old. A fossil bug sounded interesting but he was confident there were none to be seen out here. So he sat down on one of the benches in the National Park. Skol by his side. It was gonna be a pleasant day. Maybe he'd watch the bug contest. Maybe he'd participate and maybe he wouldn't. He doubt he'd keep any bugs he caught but the contest might be fun, and a potential reward sounded good to him. Maybe.

Reina was surprised by the direct offensive move the Pelipper had taken, so much she didn't react fast enough to the Payback attack. Peque covered his face as the move hit him directly, sending him flying back a few feet as he landed on his back. He quickly rolled to the side and stood up once again.

"Sorry Peque I'll try and focuse more!" Reina apologized after seeing her Pokemon take damage. "Okay, let's go, Supersonic!"

Peque's orange cheeks began to glow and then sent a wave of confusing sounds towards the Pelipper.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

Falkner smirked. It seemed like the tailwind would come in handy after all. The gusty squall distorted the supersonic, drowning it out much like it would have the sing. Falkner capitalized on this without hesitation, “Quick use «Roost»!” Pelipper landed, a healing aura surrounding it as it restored its health.

Reina gulped, that thing could go on for days with such a move set. They were going to need to figure something out, but that wasn't going to work by just standing around.

"Rock Slide again!"

Peque once again summoned boulders above him and hurled them towards the flying water Pokemon. For now, they were just focusing on keeping the battle going and try to avoid giving the opponent any openings like they did beore.

Sunday, June 12 – Violet City, Johto

The Rocks landed on Pelipper as it made little effort to evade. With the earlier roost, it had temporarily lost its flying typing meaning that the rockslide’s damage was effectively cut in half! This wasn’t even considering its defensive boosts; the result was that Pelipper ate up the rockslide without much difficulty.

Falkner smirked, his challenger was on the back foot now.

“Once more, «Payback»!” Using the last vestiges of its Tailwind, Pelipper burst from the rocks and rushed towards Marshtomp its dark aura already growing as it tried to nail Marshstomp with another boosted payback.

"Okay it's using the same pattern, Protect!"

Peque held out his hands, creating an invisible force field that stopped the Pelipper from reaching him.

"Now switch with Maya, Thunder Wave!"

Peque disappeared into his Pokeball as a Dragonair took his place. Maya's orb illuminated and send a blue electric shock towards the Pelipper, taking advantage of the tailwind having ended and it had gotten closer trying to land a payback.

“It won’t be that easy, «Protect»!”

The electrical waves arced around the translucent barrier that threw itself up as Reina made her switch and then called for thunder wave. Falkner couldn’t deny that his opponent had made a prudent switch, as things were his Pelipper would’ve walled Marshtomp and eventually whittled it down. Fortunately, Pelipper managed to reveal her third and final pokemon, Dragonair.

“Cover your retreat with «Mist»!”

"No, not letting you get comfortable! Twister!"

Maya roared as the orb in her neck once again began to glow. This time it summoned a Twister, that began to move in the direction of the Pelipper. At the same time, it sucked up all the Mist that was created, turning the twister into a long white spiral.

"Don't let him get away, follow up with Extreme Speed!"

The Dragonair disappeared in an instant from her position and reappeared above the Pelipper, her tail coming down ready to slam on it.

Pelipper crumpled to the ground as it was slammed downward by the extreme speed. This would get tricky... Falkner narrowed his eyes. Pelipper was bulky, but it couldn’t just soak up damage endlessly. They’d need to level the playing field somehow and buy some time to recover.

“Pelipper force it away with «Soak» and then use roost!” The water bird’s pouch-bill expanded before a fountain of water gushed until the air, drenching the surrounding area while Pelipper began to once more shimmered with the light of recovery.

"Keep on it, Thunder Wave!"

Maya shook off the water that fell on her and then slid around to face the landing Pelipper. She sent another blue lighting shock towards it from her horn while the sphere on her neck began to glow.

"Now get ready to send it back, Dragon Tail!"

The dragon curled up, the orbs on her tail glowing as she took aim to try and slam the Pelipper as soon as it saw an opening.

A steely expression crossed Pelipper face as the thunder wave hit it. It managed to recover some health via roost but couldn’t avoid the subsequent dragon tail given its paralysis. Roost gave it enough health to survive the blow, but it was sent back to its Pokéball, forcing Falkner to switch. His last Pokémon revealed itself with a powerful screech; the 『Pressure』 that radiated from its ancient body identified it as Falkner’s ace—an Aerodactyl!

Figuring their opponent might want to hit them with another thunder wave, Falkner acted first. “Use «Agility», Aerodactyl!”

"Same!" Reina called out, the nervous feelings from before washing away as the battle began to get more intense.

Maya's body began to glow as she tucked in her scales to allow her to move faster around. The Dragonair locked on the Aerodactyl, she felt a bit nervous, probably because of the pressure the Pokemon was giving off, but at the same time it saw a rival. Without waiting for her trainer's instructions she lunged into battle. Once again, she disappeared and reappeared above the fossil Pokemon, her tail ready to slam down on it.

Reina was about to give off her next instruction, when she saw the dragon act on her own. She decided to stay quiet, feeling a bit confused by the action her Pokemon had taken.

Aerodactyl twisted in the air, using its newfound agility to trade blows with Dragonair. Its fangs crackled with the surging thunder of «Thunder Fang», and Falkner carefully watched for any strange movements from Dragonair. He’d allow the pokemon to battle to their hearts' content but would step in if things went awry.

"Maya focus!" Reina tried to regain the Dragonair's attention.

The Dragon air use the momentum from the moves colliding to bounce back to her side of the field. She slammed her tail furiously on the ground, eager to get back into combat. She half turned towards her trainer, letting out a loud cry.

"I know, I'm excited too, but we can't just charge without thinking." Reina raised her right palm towards the dragon Pokemon. "Calm down and let's focus so we can win, yeah? Go, Twister!"

The Dragonair gave Reina a firm nod and once again concentrated on the Aerodactyl. She created a swirling gust of wind with dragon powers that began moving toward the flying rock type.

Reina might not have noticed but the twister dragonair created was slightly weaker than before and as the twister picked up water and moisture that had been deposited by the earlier moves; Falkner called his move! “Counter it with «Ice Fang»!” Aerocatyl roared its jaws opening wide as two frosty bolts zapped the twister which had turned into a small waterspout and freezing it solid.

With the twister dealt with, now it was their turn to attack.“ Now use «Ancient Power»!” An array of rocks began to circle Aerodactyl who soared toward dragonair and began to fire its stone projectiles.

"Maya switch, Peque go!"

The switch as unexpected even for Maya, as she shot a confused glared at Reina before disappearing and the Marshtomp took her place. The boulders impacted Peque, but he stood his ground as he shielded his face with his forearms.

"Fight back with Rock Slide!"

Peque planted his front paws on the ground and then raised his arms, lifting the same stones the Aerodactyl had used. The rocks floated above Marshtomp and then were sent flying towards the Aerodactyl at a faster speed.

“Soar!” Falkner jabbed a defiant finger to the sky, directing Aerodactyl into a steep ascent that put its enhanced agility to use, as it soared over the incoming rocks. When it reached an unassailable height, the fossil pokemon spread its rocky wing as Falkner called out from below. “Now once more «Agility»!” The Aerodactyl danced in the sky, its speed beginning to increase. It was already a naturally fast pokemon; now, with two uses of agility under its belt, its speed was ghastly.

Reina squinted at the sky, trying to get a better reading of their opponent, but he was too high up. Peque seemed to be struggling also, as he turned to Reina and shrugged. There wasn't much both could do besides wait for their opponent to come down. At least, that was Reina's thinking until she remember she still had another Pokemon on standby.

"Need you again Lapras, come on out!"

Peque was returned to his Pokeball while Lapras emerged from hers and landed on the same spot, looking a bit tired from taken the attack from Swellow not so long ago.

"Rain Dance!"

Lapras let out a loud cry as she wiggled her ears and moved her front flippers, causing the clouds above them to gather once again.

Falkner smiled; rain dance was trouble indeed, but he had a plan this time. First, he’d stall for some time. Aerodactyl flew beneath the clouds, circling ominously until Falkner called for a move.

“Use «Rock Slide»!”

The air rippled and the sky itself tore as large boulders portalled from random spots in the sky. At Aerodactyls height they would take some time to fall, but when they did, they’d hit with terrifying power!

Reina frowned, the gym leader was taking advantage of the sky, but she wasn't going to let him try and abuse that. She pointed at the sky, at the incoming stones coming towards the Lapras, he might have the skies but Lapras had the rain.

"Water Gun to blast those stones out of the way!"

Lapras looked up and with her powered up water type moves, she blasted a powerful Water Gun attack, hitting any rocks coming towards her, causing them to the fall in the area around her.

"Now girl, give me the biggest Ice Shard you've ever done!"

Lapras let out a loud battle cry as she created a large group of pointy pieces of ice around her and then sent them flying towards the sky.
